And while I’d rather give Bill a treat than trick him, I just got an e-mail saying that Gorman favorite, Law & Order: CI which was set to premiere on USA Network on Friday November 7, just got pushed back to 2009. Additional details to follow (when we get them!).
Eli Stone drew a 5.2/9 (household rating/share) in Nielsen’s early metered market numbers. Last week in the early metered market numbers drew a 6.3/10. But to give you an idea of how worthless these early numbers can sometimes be, last week in the final numbers Eli wound up with a 5.4/9. We’ll have a better slice of the data when the fast nationals come out. But the main reason Eli Stone changed so much is because the Dancing With the Stars Overrun isn’t pulled out of the early numbers, and it is yanked out of the final numbers.
House drew a 7.9/12. Last week it drew a 7.7/12 in the early metered market numbers. Considering there was some question early in the day whether House would air or weather game five of the World Series would resume, it looks like with the viewing public it was never in doubt. Fox had already planned to air a repeat of Fringe, and it pulled a 4.3/7 as a repeat. I’ll be interested to see how the demo numbers were for the rerun.
CBS had a really good night, Marc Berman has it up 24% versus the similar Tuesday last year. It looks like CBS can use all the good news it can get.

Metered Market Overnight Ratings: This is normally the first available ratings information, and is based on the electronic measurement service that Nielsen provides in 56 of the nation’s largest markets. In each market a sample of homes is selected to represent that individual market. Often, networks or syndicators provide metered market information as an early indicator of a program’s performance. In aggregate, the 56 metered markets represent 79,890,610 homes, or 70% of all U.S. TV households. Preliminary metered market data are available as early as 8:00AM (ET). Final metered market information, reflecting line-up changes, pre-emptions and runovers, are normally available by 3:30PM (ET).
Wow, once again, NCIS won the hour with a rating of 10.6/16. It’ll be interesting to see how its demo ratings stacked up against House.
Outlander: Last week NCIS was the #3 show in total viewers, but 23rd among 18-49. House was 16th in viewers, and second in the demo.
NCIS is another one of those granparents shows.
I don’t know Bob, I kind of like NCIS and I am definitely not a grandparent!!! Not even middle aged yet. Just hate it comes on Tuesday night, that is the night I am in the stands watching my daughter cheer at her junior high football game.
According to the USA site CI is still set to premiere next Friday. I think someone on the messageboards is just yanking everyones chains.
AI, I don’t think so. My info may be wrong, but it came from someone who is responsible for marketing many of the USA Network shows on the Internet (an agency that works for USA doing online PR).
Yep, it is true about CI. USA says they want to be able to show all 16 episodes uninterrupted in the first quarter of next year. Too many holiday breaks coming up for a show to start just before Thanksgiving. I want them to do whatever’s right to maximize ratings as I’d hate to see the show fail.
