On the plus side for Pushing Daises, Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money, all three were on the upside in the ratings this week, and all three were listed in the top 20 dvr recorded shows for October. Right now Private Private is the most intriguing of the three, but all of them at least seem to be headed down the right track. The problem is that it's just taking too long to get there and on a hot network with plenty of backup inventory waiting to debut(LOST, The Bachelor, Scrubs, and a host of reality hits from last season's strike shortened season)suvival becomes a bit tenuous. ABC is a fiscally shrewd network and they will cancel a successfu show(Friday night's, Women's Murder Club) for a cheaper just as effective reality program if they deem it prudent to do so.

Chris, 30 Rock is on because it's ratings are incredibly strong in certain demos that matter. 30 Rock is in the top 5 watched shows by those who make over $100,000 a year. If it stays rated that high it will remain on the air for a long time.

Pushing Daisies isn't rated high in anything but women 18-49, and in that category it isn't high enough.

Patrick, neither PD (which I barely tolerate) or AD (which I loved) were intellectual. Quirky, yes, but you don't get to claim some intellectual high ground because you watch something most people don't have the patience for or interest in. Telling us that we're stupid for not watching PD (insert Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls, Firefly, Dollhouse also) only makes us more resolute in NOT watching it. So stop it.

Same with my beloved "30 Rock", which is only still around because TV people love themselves some themselves and will crawl through broken glass to give Tina Emmys. But at least I realize the reasons why I'm in a very small minority.

Liah, Kristin verified exactly what I posted here earlier. I don't hate Pushing Daisies I hate fanatics who act like their show is some how superior despite ratings. If the show was superior it would show it. Especially in a case like Pushing Daisies where ABC promoted it aggressively. I'm pretty sure my post on this site was the first posting anywhere on the internet that ABC had just told Fuller to rewrite episode 13 to be a "finale." That is exactly what Kristin is now reporting. She however seems to think that means it could get the back 9 picked up. If that was the real case they'd have let it end in the cliffhanger.

What Kristin is doing is WRONG. She is asking people to annoy ABC in the name of her personal tastes. The show is DEAD LAST in ratings for the network. Kristin is asking people to do something that could very well hurt the careers of people behind Pushing Daisies. Fuller doesn't need fans pissing off executives.

Also my source on this is probably just as good if not better than Kristin's source. They asked them to re-write the episode. They told them there was still a chance. Producers are trying to get a time/night switch. It's just not going to work.

Basically what I'm hearing from this fool Nick C. is this:

"I HATE PUSHING DAISIES! I WANT THE FANS TO WORRY BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH HATRED! WAAAA!"

Just stop.

Kristin is more reliable than you will ever be.

Unless you are totally psychic (i know a wiccan kid who is, lol), an ABC exec, or a creeper with a bunch of security cameras all over Pushing Daisies' sets and locations, then you don't know what happened.

Cool,

Thanks for the link to Kristin's crazy version of what DID happen today (and is the first link to something somewhat official about what I posted on here earlier). ABC flat out told them to make it a finale. No, they didn't "cancel," the show. They just told them to make sure the last episode "covers all bases." Kristin thinks that means "leave things open for the possibility of more episodes." What it really meant was make sure answer everything you can. Fuller knows the chances of his show lasting are slim and none. Slim just left the building.

The show is OVER. They were told to end it today. Yes, they were told "if things improve," but that is the NICE way to treat someone you may have to work with again. I know what they were told today. It's done. Finished. Do not get your hopes up.

Julia, I'm just using the same logic they use by saying it's too smart. I say it's just BAD. Neither can be proven... but these people claiming it's so great, smart, etc. is just elitist. Like their opinion is somehow better than the majority. Like that article linked to by this site about "saving the show," it's scary that someone can think ABC owes it to everyone to keep that show on the air because it makes TV better somehow.

Patrick, I dont' see Metacritic as proof of anything. They don't cover ever review ever written. The show has gone down hill this season and it started going down hill last season.

Using the Emmy noms as proof of being good is just silly. Art, Makeup, Hairstyle, music & costumes were five of the nominations. It wasn't nominated for "series," but acting, supporting actress, writing (pilot), editing (pilot) and direction (pilot). All you can really prove is that the pilot had quality.

Cool.

Sorry to confuse you. I was using hyperbole to make my point that saying PD has seen a fair amount of 'bad' reviews, but that hardly makes the show bad by any measure. I think I've backed up -my- statement; Simply, that it was critically acclaimed, by providing significant evidence.

No, I do not think that PD is at all on the level of Seinfeld, Cheers or I Love Lucy... All shows that did receive some bad reviews (Especially at the beginnings of their runs) but were absolutely not 'bad' shows.

Nick C,

http://www.metacritic.com/tv/shows/pushingdaisies

An average score of 86 among 30 reviews qualifies very well as critically acclaimed. Certainly some critics disapproved, but some people hated Seinfeld too. And Cheers. And I Love Lucy. I have simply not seen enough evidence that the majorty of critics find it bad in even the remotest sense.

You also forgot nominations for Best Actor and Supporting Actress.

This season is, sadly, still in its infancy, returning after a strike shortened season last year. You again use the word 'bad' which is an opinion and not a statement of fact. I again submit, I feel the show simply flies over the intellectual heads of most people.

Nick, as much as I hate arguing about quality, since it is very subjective, trying to claim that 7 mil people decided it was a bad show is a fallacy. 13 mil people may have sampled the first episode and decided that the counter programming is what they would prefer to watch, but that doesn't mean they decided it was a bad show. You could just as easily argue that those 7 mil just don't understand the show because it's too smart. (I'm not saying that. I don't think it's a very smart show, even if I do love it.) Your claims are as ridiculous as those of the fans.

AND those nominations were for LAST season, not this season. This season is BAD. It's not good TV. Last season was far better in quality.

Patrick, this is rather simple. PD is not "critically acclaimed," as it has seen quite a fair amount of BAD reviews. It received nominations for things it deserved nominations for. The pilot was well directed. The sets and designs are definitely worthy of nominations.

13 million people gave Pushing Daisies a shot. 7 million of them said "no, thanks." That to me is a bad show.

Caio, only Gray's Anatomy saw more promotion this season. How is that less ads than other shows? Where do "fans," get this misinformation?

I'm not entirely certain how any show with over 10 Emmy nominations can qualify as a 'bad show'. It's a niche show, certainly, but 'bad' is an opinion, not a point of fact when the number of awards and reviews been given to it very much state the contrary.

This is more comparable to Arrested Development. Critically acclaimed, but intellectually above the head of a 'mass audience'.

Caio, because moving it to a new night isn't going to save it. It's a bad TV show. It won't matter what night it's on. This is not a show like Jericho, Firefly, Veronica Mars, or one of those shows where fans got really upset because the network mistreated it and ended up hurting the show. Pushing Daisies was extremely well promoted given a nice time slot, etc. Pushing Daisies failed because the show just doesn't work. Sure some people like it, but they are a vast minority.

The premise of "touch a dead person, get 60 seconds to talk the dead," to help solve murders isn't a bad idea. The execution of the show is just bad. The mysteries aren't very good at all. I think I've mentioned the whole "can't touch," nonsense. The combination just makes people change the channel.

As for PD switching networks, it is far too expensive for cable. Why people think that the show would do just as well on cable and retain the same viewership is beyond me. No matter where it would end up it would do poorly. Why? It's a bad show. The 7M people who don't watch it who once tried it can't be wrong.

OK,nIck,I´m a bit of an ignorant in the inner workings of tv stations,so please, explain this to me:why exactly is it that moving PD to another night would be worse then making the 13th episode the finale? Is there no chance it could thrive in another channel?
Thank you for your patience

Sad to have doubted PD's natural ability but damn! Obama totally flattened the competition. I hope PD can last through this though!
