CW’s Sunday Night Shows Valentine and Easy Money Cancelled

Posted on 03 November 2008 by Bill Gorman

Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that the Media Rights Capital produced Valentine and Easy Money, airing on CW Sunday nights have been put on “permanent hiatus”, TV-speak for cancelled. This is a surprise to no one, particularly watchers of our Renew / Cancel Index where Valentine and Easy Money were the shows at the top of the “cancel” list by a wide margin.

Also reported is that MRC has the rights (obligation?) to program CW’s Sunday nights throughout the 2008-9 season and that it would be choosing two new shows to fill the hour. I wonder what contractual escape clauses they have with the CW. That CW Sunday night is just a killing field for television shows and the money spent to produce them. Commenters at Deadline Hollywood Daily are wondering if MRC might have action against the CW for lack of promotion. If MRC wants to get out of its deal with the CW they might be casting about for any contractual reason for being able to do so. Stay tuned.

  1. Don says:

Once Media Rights Capital finds the escape clause, the CW should just give up on Sunday nights and give it back to its affilates.

  2. Angie says:

The CW needs to air repeats, or nothing at all (pity they wouldn’t air Supernatural repeats).

  3. Bill Gorman says:

What the CW or MRC ends up doing will be very interesting. This is a money burning catastrophe for someone, maybe many someones.

  4. Julia says:

Is there any word if MRC has anything else on the back burner that it can get ready to air soon? Maybe a game show or something? Quick, easy and cheap to produce?

  5. Bill Gorman says:

Julia, I haven’t read anything, but DHD’s “they’ll be picking another show quickly” might imply they have other options ready.

  6. AngryAsHell says:

BULL!!! those were the only shows I watched.. what type of mother-#($(@#$ assmunches would pull them so soon???

  7. Nick Powers says:

If this show was rated so highly, why the hell was it cancelled? It was such a refreshing show. I mean, no other show uses the Greek gods, and i’d think people would tire of all the other crap the CW plays.
