A moderator pointed out in another discussion that ratings tend to surge during special events such as this and it doesn't mean much. CNN's surge can be attributed to name recognition, as those who aren't regular cable news viewers want to tune into something.

It's no surprise MSNBC picked up viewers. The pro-Obama crowd would have tuned them in.

I think many conservatives simply tuned out altogether.

I'm surprised no one pointed out how between 10:00-11:00 and 11:00-Midnight, when one of the most historic moments of the last decade occured, CNN increased 21.5%, MSNBC increased 17.5%...and Fox News decreased 17.5%, dropping below MSNBC. Heh.

So Kristine, when Bill O'Reilly brings on Scott Rasmussen and Frank Luntz, who are consistent in their opinion that Obama would win, with Rasmussen actually providing a dead-on prediction as to the final election tally ... Fox viewers somehow ignore that and are surprised that McCain lost?

Do you actually watch Fox News, or are you just repeating something you heard?

I don't think many Fox viewers were surprised. I'd guess most Fox conservatives did't really like McCain anyway.

CNN is much more balanced than MSNBC, to their credit. But if you look at the Pew study, the numbers bear out Fox as the most balanced. Equal negative/positive/neutral toward Obama and McCain. You can't define Fair and Balanced by averaging the mainstream media, which is already left of center. In truth, Fox is down the middle, and there really is no "far right" channel to the equivalent of the partisanship of MSNBC.

Liberals will point to Fox harping about Ayers and Wright, but these are legitimate stories, and for the mainstream media not to press them is shameful. And Obama knew he could get away with it because the media was on his side.

If the Democrats want to curtail freedom of the press and free speech, that's their prerogative. But they shouldn't be surprised if they get a fight.

I don't remember McCain being out there threatening to take Olbermann off the air if he won.

Democrats love to spout the virtues of freedom of civil liberties, but time and again they prove they clearly do not understand the concepts. hardcore liberals accept only their reality as truth, and are close-minded to any dissent. Judging by his comments during the campaign, Obama falls into this category, and that scares me, as it should scare us all.

Removing Fox News would be one step closer to a state-run news agency, and we would all be the worse for it. And that's the truth, whether you want to admit that to yourself or not.

Just curious how Fox will act now with a Democratic majority. I've heard (not confirmed) that Fox will have to rely on other media feeds (MSNBC for example) and will need to endure publishing their call letters if they want to run a story... I just wonder how Hannity/O'Reilly and the Fox Morning crew will take it... ;-)

I think they may change their tone a little bit with the access carrot dangled in front of them

How is Fox somehow the #1 propoganda station? Do you even watch it or are you just reciting Democrat talking points?

How is MSNBC not tops in propoganda when its "star," Keith Olbermann, does a post-election show that consists of little more than gloating and features a moment where he openly admits his bias, gleefully saying he is guilty of commentary during the election. Then when he names his "Worst Person in the World," he gives no reason, saying they don't matter, and basically they are the worst because he says so? His choices: The three people he hates the most. Republican commentators Bill Kristol and Rush Limbaugh, and his main competition, Bill O'Reilly. Why are they the worst? Simply because KO doesn't like them. The SNL parody of KO's ego was dead on.

You want fair and balanced? Look at the Pew study. Fox devoted equal numbers of negative, positive and neutral coverage to both campaigns. MSNBC was so skewed for Obama it isn't even funny. Even 60% of Liberals criticize the media for being in the tank for Obama.

The problem for Olbermann is that his ratings spike has been based on campaigning for Obama and openly attacking his competition. From any network. He even attacks those who would counterprogram the NBC Sunday Night Football game. It's embarrassing.

With Democrats firmly in control of government, what is Obamamann supposed to do to stand out? Kick the Republicans while they are down? Good luck with that.

Will he simply be an agent for attacking O'Reilly. How can that work. What reason does anyone have to watch him? Even if he attacks O'Reilly, he'll just send viewers to O'Reilly to see what all the fuss is about. And any open-minded person can see that Obamamann is way off base.

Keith Obamamann ... Today's, and any day's, WORST, PERSON, IN THE WORLD

Whatliberalmedia,

So what i gather from your long feeble rebuttal is that we both agree that MSNBC is "biased and cowardly", since you chose not to rebut my comment on that, but tried to on all other points. Common ground is a good start. We will continue to debate the other issues over time.

Sure thing, cattleman.

I'll admit to not being a viewer of MSNBC or FOX News, so this is strictly asking as an outside observer. Yet, while we're on the subject of their potential aftermaths, does anyone see that beyond scrutinizing every move the Obama administration makes, all that these two channels will do is essentially attack each other in order to gain ratings [a la the two NYC dailies in the Post and Daily News (for those who do live in the area can attest to)]?

MSNBC will keep those two shows from 8-10 PM, because they can't find anything else that will get more viewers. They will lag behing FNC, but as crazy as this sounds, they won't get any better ratings with somebody else. Bottom line is, if you don't like a show, then don't watch it.

"MSNBC coverage dismal last night, and I am not surprised."

Actually, it was very good and fair. You probably didn't even watch it. Better than FNC's crap. Did you see Rove talking about the possibility of Obama losing Ohio, and then Hume tells him "um, Karl, Ohio has just gone to Senator Obama." Haha oh snap!

"When it is important coverage, most would rather listen to something fair and balanced."

Where would they get that? I think CNN is the fairest network on cable... FNC is just a lapdog for the Republicans... "Fair and balanced"? Pfft.

"MSNBC is toast going forward unless they are willing to get rid of countdown and rachel."

That will never happen because they are both the highest rated shows on the network and both competing with Billo the clown and Insanity $ Co.

"No they are probably the hard working middle class conservatives who had to go work early the next morning to continue to make this the greatest country on earth, like they do everyday."

There are more Liberals in this country that are middle class... the Democrats represent the middle class. Conservatives just represent the hicks, hillbillies, and rednecks aka Lower class on farms.

"So how would you describe the folks who watch MSNBC? Just curious."

Smart, intelligent people that don't need to be spoon fed propaganda from the #1 propaganda network on cable... Fox News.

"He nearly caught up to Billo for one week, but Billo held him off."

He beat him in the demo. Nice try.

"I think the only reason KO made it close (but no cigar) was because the lefties in this country were worried that the DEMS would somehow blow it in the last week, and were looking to their favorite lefties for solace."

LOL... blow it? Everyone knew Obama would win, and not only does he win, he steamrolls McCain. I'm sure people like you just blame the big, bad "Liberal Media" for that though. Like McCain did everything right, and Sarah Palin was a little angel. HA!

"They will no longer have a reason to tune in."

Looks like that crystal ball of yours is really fogged up. Get that fixed, junior.

"KO best hang on to that football job, he is going to need it."

Do you think Billo the clown will be able to get his inside edition job back when he goes nuts one of these days with Obama in office? He could have another "DO IT LIVE!" moment any day now.

"They will continue to place a distant 3rd in Prime time news."

Actually, they are expected to compete for 2nd place with CNN, and will probably even get more demo viewers than FNC. Wait for it.

"They will not improve unless they get rid of their hard left air heads."

And FNC will never stop being a joke unless they stop being a comedy network that can't give facts and truth, just propaganda and lies. That is their specialty.

"MSNBC is the opposite of FOX News."

Yes, because they don't receive white house talking points.

"Fox News…fair and balanced."

LOL where is a laugh track when you need one? I'm sure there are still some left from the dismal 1/2 hour news hour set.

“When it is important coverage, most would rather listen to something fair and balanced.”

Where would they get that? I think CNN is the fairest network on cable… FNC is just a lapdog for the Republicans… “Fair and balanced”? Pfft.

“MSNBC is toast going forward unless they are willing to get rid of countdown and rachel.”

That will never happen because they are both the highest rated shows on the network and both competing with Billo the clown and Insanity $ Co.

“No they are probably the hard working middle class conservatives who had to go work early the next morning to continue to make this the greatest country on earth, like they do everyday.”

There are more Liberals in this country that are middle class… the Democrats represent the middle class. Conservatives just represent the hicks, hillbillies, and rednecks aka Lower class on farms.

“So how would you describe the folks who watch MSNBC? Just curious.”

Smart, intelligent people that don’t need to be spoon fed propaganda from the #1 propaganda network on cable… Fox News.

“He nearly caught up to Billo for one week, but Billo held him off.”

He beat him in the demo. Nice try.

“I think the only reason KO made it close (but no cigar) was because the lefties in this country were worried that the DEMS would somehow blow it in the last week, and were looking to their favorite lefties for solace.”

LOL… blow it? Everyone knew Obama would win, and not only does he win, he steamrolls McCain. I’m sure people like you just blame the big, bad “Liberal Media” for that though. Like McCain did everything right, and Sarah Palin was a little angel. HA!

“They will no longer have a reason to tune in.”

Looks like that crystal ball of yours is really fogged up. Get that fixed, junior.

“KO best hang on to that football job, he is going to need it.”

Do you think Billo the clown will be able to get his inside edition job back when he goes nuts one of these days with Obama in office? He could have another “DO IT LIVE!” moment any day now.

“They will continue to place a distant 3rd in Prime time news.”

Actually, they are expected to compete for 2nd place with CNN, and will probably even get more demo viewers than FNC. Wait for it.

“They will not improve unless they get rid of their hard left air heads.”

And FNC will never stop being a joke unless they stop being a comedy network that can’t give facts and truth, just propaganda and lies. That is their specialty.

“MSNBC is the opposite of FOX News.”

Thank you Don, I think we are in agreement.

MSNBC is not going anywhere. They will remain on air. They will continue to place a distant 3rd in Prime time news. They will not improve unless they get rid of their hard left air heads.

MSNBC is the opposite of FOX News. Fox News...fair and balanced. MSNBC...biased and cowardly.

Rich

KO's show will be KO'd from here on out. He nearly caught up to Billo for one week, but Billo held him off. Same with the rest of the FOX news lineup i believe. I think the only reason KO made it close (but no cigar) was because the lefties in this country were worried that the DEMS would somehow blow it in the last week, and were looking to their favorite lefties for solace. They will no longer have a reason to tune in.

KO best hang on to that football job, he is going to need it.

What does K.O. do now....now more McCain in the MEMBRANE segments. Republicans lose more seats....who does K.O. pick on now....because on Jan 20th, all Olbermann can dedicate his show to is O'Reilly!

Hanbilig, No they are probably the hard working middle class conservatives who had to go work early the next morning to continue to make this the greatest country on earth, like they do everyday. So how would you describe the folks who watch MSNBC? Just curious.

Never mind opinion & Check out the Orielly vs. Olbermann ratings last week on this website & you'll find Keith beating Bill consistantly in the 25-54 demographic while Rachel's getting better ratings than Hannity & Combs in the next hour. MSNBC speaks for millions & advertisers listen. Change the channel if you can't take the truth - I often listen to Orielly when in need for a good laugh.
