Brandon, I don't remember where I read it because I got to 3 different sites, but I read that CBS will probably wait to see how The Unit does after football is done in the spring. Apparently, all their shows do better when football is gone because it draws the male audience back to their line-up.

That could be wrong though because it might have been something I read from someone on imdb.

Interesting three-way tie, basically. between ABC, CBS and Fox at nine central. As for Family Guy, I only watched it because it preceded Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force etc on Adultswim. I'm very picky about animation, and somehow, FG is finding its legs. It's growing on me. South Park, on the other hand, this year, is quite a disappointment. But back on point: After Dancing with the Hasbeens is finally over, has ABC shot its bolt? Sort of a noble effort, at least in 2004-05, but the Mouse has entirely annoyed me since around the time of Aladdin. Frankly, I never liked their PR juggernaut. Reading a thousand times that Men in Trees was as good or better than Northern Exposure ... Say what? Were they all high? Or just toeing the Disney Party line? You all decide. And I hope you continue to.

some shows never go anywhere: the Simpsons is one of them. It can even outlive the lives of its actors/producers/creator because it is animated. It can even survive because its cost is much lower than producing a new non-animated show. People have just gotten used to it; it is as much a part of the television landscape as SNL or law and order.

rob: football was the lead in to the simpsons (the ot part anyway on the east coast) but simpsons did better. it increased all demos and viewers significantly. there was a definite must see factor involved.

rj: you make it sound like you think fox reupped the actors for three years on the simpsons based on this one halloween episode of the simpsons. you don't think that... do you?

i think koth his was casnceled because fox really has no where else to put it in their lineup. they have to try to add new hits to the sunday lineup and something has to move. simps and fg are going nowhere and american dad needs more episodes to syndicate.

funny that koth did a little better than AD in most areas with a slightly lesser lead in.

cleveland has been pushed back to the fall. and where will they put it? only 2 options. after simps or FG.

i still think abc will pick it up

James, I haven't heard anything definitive, but here are two datapoints:

(1) Fox has not renewed the show, but will continue to air the episodes they have already purchased through sometime (reportedly) in Fall 2009.

(2) There have been rumors of other networks being interested in the show.

My conclusion based on this is that Fox decided it was better off with another animated show in that timeslot likely because of economic reasons, which probably were related to what the producer of the show wanted. Another network, however, might be motivated by other factors to pay more.

Brandon, out of curiosity, why would you guess that The Unit has a more affluent audience than most shows?

As for its chances, they are not good at this point. It's the lowest rated drama for CBS other than its Friday shows. They need to cancel something to make room for new shows next season. If the ratings don't pick up significantly, it's gone.

Can anyone explain why KotH was cancelled (again!)?

Is it just that the show has been on so long that they have to pay the actors so much more?

How does the Unit figure into all of this? I know they are low on the renew list because they don't do well in the 18-34 demo, but they have a pretty decent sized audience, which I would assume is a more affluent audience than most shows. That argument didn't get Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip or whatever it was called very far. They touted they had the richest audience, but the show cost too much and didn't have enough viewers and was cut.

It has performed well on Tueday behind NCIS and now it has done well late on Sunday nights, but the demo numbers aren't great.

I would assume that it is an expensive show to make, which further would lead me to believe it won't make the cut.

Is there something I am missing, or is the Unit going to have to pick up some young viewers or else get the ax?

whats wrong with using sports ABCFanatic? If you have a good viewer puller then use it, although sports mean that because of football seasons not being the same as tv NBC will be falling behind on Sundays in the mid-season.

Julia, I don't believe so, we've got lots of old NASCAR numbers on the site. Since NASCAR races are at different times and days and networks the comparisons are not entirely apples to apples.
