Update: ‘Lipstick Jungle’ cancelled? Yes? No? I don’t know…

Posted on 17 November 2008 by Robert Seidman

Update: I don’t buy it, but as of January 27, 2009 — keep hope alive!

Our most recent update is that the show has been cancelled.

Update: the New York Times chimes in that reports of demise look premature:

Ben Silverman, the co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, said Monday that NBC will now definitely finish the 13 episodes that the network originally ordered — it has 4 more episodes to run — and may order more if the show “grows more.”

The series has always been among the best-rated among high-income households, which NBC likes.

we’d heard rumors last week that the reports of the demise of NBC’s Lipstick Jungle were premature, but we figured that was just a bit of gamesmanship until the show wrapped it’s 13th and presumably final episode. But now, there may be some fence sitting. James Hibberd has some details:

Yet NBC’s stance on the show has indeed moved back on the fence. As demonstrated here, the outcry over “Enemy” being canceled was nearly nonexistent while the outcry over “Lipstick” was impressively vehement (fans are mailing tubes of lipstick to the network). Sources say “Lipstick” backers are doing a full court press — public and private — pushing NBC to order more episodes. So Shields’ comment is less a reflection of reality then part of an effort to make a reality.

Few of NBC’s shows have received this kind of outpouring of positive fan reaction. Does it really want to cancel an underperforming show that’s getting such a passionate response?

Another key factor is Friday’s episode. It went up 17% in the adult demo from the week before. And last week’s episode went up 20%.

Those are big gains … but they’re big gains from small numbers.

Get the full skinny on thrfeed.com, there’s also some discussion of NBC only currently having one more airing of LJ on the schedule insead of the five that would be remaining.

My bet is it’s cancelled, sorry Brooke.

  1. Nick C says:

The show is canceled. I think he says it all with “Shields’ comment is less a reflection of reality than part of an effort to make a reality.”

She wants to save the show. Nothing really new here.

  2. Julia says:

Will we ever move past a time when fans will send ridiculous things to the networks?

  3. Bill Gorman says:

Perhaps when the networks start sending them back!

Edit: Brooke is likely quite busy with the VW Routan commercials. Don’t feel too sorry for her.

  4. Fin says:

Lipstick tubes was a good idea its sends the message quite well.

  5. Nick C says:

They would stop if the network did this:

“We’re canceling Lipstick Jungle because our mail room was swamped with lipstick from fans. We can’t support shows that treat us so rudely.”

Do that a few times and it will stop.

  6. Cool says:

I’m hearing that NBC is selling those lipsticks to pay ‘Heroes’

  7. Fin says:

Apparently an insider of NBC said (i know i could be wrong) but that this weeks episode could decide the fate of the show. Apparently the main actors think the DVR numbers will save them but surely NBC makes less money from DVR numbers than live.

  8. Julia says:

Fin, sending anything to networks to save a show is stupid.

  9. if the main actors think the DVR numbers will save them…they obvously don’t read our blog.

    My spirits are crushed.

  10. Fin says:

I guess all these fans will help with merchandise so it could even out for Liptick Jungle… Remember if this ‘fan base’ does exist surely it would be able to bring back Lipstick Jungle with DVD sales. But then i guess sets would have to be remade i guess.

  11. Fin says:

I WASN’T saying it was intelligent Julia but it was a ‘good’ idea to send lipstick tubes instead of letters; it sends a stronger message if you ask me. And how is sending anything to networks stupid????? Fan reaction has pushed some shows through bad ratings to a full season sometimes. But an e-mail would have been better

  12. Julia says:

The only time fan reaction has “saved” a show was Jericho. The result of that was embarrassing and no network is going to make the same mistake twice. Letters actually are a better idea. If you have something to say, SAY IT! Don’t use a prop to speak for you. If you can’t articulate what it is that drives you to care so much about a show, is it really worth fighting for?

  13. Shannon says:

Hope this is true. I really like this show.

  14. Holly says:

Julia, I think Roswell was given a second life on a different network (UPN?) after fans sent in a bunch of hot sauce bottles.

  15. Julia says:

Yeah, I think they may have started it all. And didn’t it only last one extra season anyway? So, again, failure.

  16. Vader says:

Yeah, there was no outcry at all over My Own Worst Enemy. Who does James think he’s kidding?

  17. Janine says:

Boston Legal was brought back to life after being cancelled a few years ago by fan reaction / letters / petitions. Please keep Lipstick Jungle on!!! I love the show!

  18. Lisa says:

Jericho isn’t the only other example of a show being saved largely due to viewer protest. I’m pretty sure Cagney & Lacey is another example, though that was a long time ago. But it sure is rare, and for good reason. Where are the viewers when the show NEEDS them? They have to watch “live” to make a real impact. That’s just how it is.

I think LJ is terrible, but I enjoy watching it simply because it entertains me. Do I want to see it stick around? Sure. I don’t think it will, though.

  19. Ben says:

If shows leave on a cliffhanger, like Jericho did at the end of the first season, they should expect such passionate support for more episodes. But when it is nicely resolved like all final episodes should be, i’m content, and i’m sure many other people are.

  20. clutz12001 says:

Julia, I take offense to your declaration of the “Jericho” NUTS campaign bringing “embarrassing” results to CBS. Thanks to the impact of passionate fans, CBS agreed to produce only seven more episodes. After several months off the air, the network premiered the new eps while TV viewing was down, in general, due to the the writers’ strike. CBS also placed the show in the Tuesday at 10 EST timeslot that, to quote Matt Roush of TV Guide, “has killed every show since Judging Amy.” When ratings weren’t what CBS had hoped (although better than LJ or MOWE on NBC this year!), CBS hid behind the Nielsen shield to cancel the program altogether.

On a side note, CBS finally has decent total viewer numbers in that Tuesday slot-o-death. However, with the demographics considered, “Without a Trace” has been hanging around the Renew or Cancel Index. I think they’ll cling to WAT for dear life, as it’s the only CBS show since…well, since Judging Amy!…to break 10 million viewers in that timeslot.

Lastly, I do not consider “one more season” a failure, as you apparently do. Any series that is brought back for closure, due to passionate fan support, is a modest success. Don’t think advertisers don’t notice that a loyal fanbase is more likely to support them then your average couch potato will. I believe Nielsen has tried to quantify this notion, but it’s been too expensive to attempt to see the projects through.

  21. JT says:

I don’t think the lipstick tubes was a bad idea at all from fans who truly love the show. But seriously, how many could they actually received? NBC probably got like 3 lipstick tubes and decided to put one of their magical spins (e.g. flat out lies) to the story.

  22. Julia says:

The ratings were embarrassing. Fans who threw their support behind the show ended up a laughing stock to everyone outside of themselves.

As for my failure comment, I meant the show was not successful after being saved. It failed to bring in enough viewers for UPN to consider keeping it around.

  23. C. says:

According to Quincy Smith, CBS’ director of new media, “Jericho” had more viewers on the Internet than on the network itself. This comment was made during the show’s second season. (see interview in USA Today, 2/27/08)

Since “Jericho” averaged 6 million viewers on CBS in its second season, the total audience for the show including online viewership was in excess of 12 million viewers, minimum.

(Which is about what it started with. The pilot drew 11.66 million viewers in September 2006.)

“Jericho” had plenty of audience — just not on CBS, which is where it counted.

As for the “embarrassment” factor, the fans got themselves a second season. I don’t think that’s embarrassing at all.

    C.

  24. clutz12001 says:

Julia, How many seasons must a show be on the air, and at what Nielsen factor, to be a “success” then? Three? Ten?

Nielsen ratings are relative – in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. Jericho’s ratings could be considered a success on other networks, or cable. I suppose NBC should just hang it up and go off the air, according to Nielsen definitions of “success.” Sadly for Jericho, the dominant Nielsen force of umpteen CSI incarnations and procedurals made it tough for Jericho to be a success in the (Nielsen-blinded) eyes of CBS.

The ratings for Jericho were low, but far from embarrasssing. Until WAT (a well-established show) this year, nothing earned more than 6 million viewers in that timeslot, save for the odd CSI repeat. Tuesdays at 10 pm is NOT where a new series can build an audience.

Jericho was always in the top 12-ish of the DVR % increase viewers. It was always a top download on iTunes and Amazon Ubox too. That may not mean anything to advertisers yet, but times are changing.

I am proud to be a Jericho fan. I’m proud to support the Jericho campaigns. The cast, crew, writers and producers of Jericho certainly did not laugh at us. I’ve never felt so connected to the people behind a TV series, and I likely won’t ever see such fan-to-show connections again. Jericho fans are only “a laughing stock” to closed-minded types who still wear those Nielsen blinders. The suits at CBS fit that latter description ;) .

  25. Teresa says:

Ok. Maybe I’m not reading this site correctly. I read in Us Magazine (yeah I know.. don’t stone me) Brooke said that they are #1 if they consider the DVR audience. Is this true? I know one report on here said the DVR numbers went up but I can’t see it overtaking Numbers in the timeslot.

Personally I don’t care if LJ sinks or swims, just as long as Paul Blackthorne is on a show (and on a channel I get).

  26. Dianne Hood says:

I was one of the 11+ million who tuned in to the pilot ep for “Lipstick Jungle.”

Halfway through, I switched to a syndicated episode of “Friends” that I’d seen so many times I could run all the lines in my sleep.

    And it was better.

Please, NBC, cancel this show and let these actors move on to better things.

  27. Rob R says:

Only on this website could blogging about “Lipstick Jungle” turn into a story about “Jericho.”

  28. Julia says:

Clutz, I’ll try to explain this one more time. Fans of Roswell got UPN to pick it up for a third season. UPN canceled it at the end, proving that that experiment was a failure. Otherwise they would have renewed it for a fourth season, especially since the fans used the same tactic to try to get it for a fourth season.

  29. Lynne says:

I hope LJ stays. I found myself watching a lot of NBC shows this time around (Enemy, Life, and Lipstick Jungle). Of course, I wasn’t happy to read that the network doesn’t share my interests. When does Friday Night Lights come back?

  30. clutz12001 says:

Hey Lynne, if you don’t have DirecTV, expect to see season 3 of Friday Night Lights in January or February, I believe? I’ve been watching on DirecTV but I won’t throw you any spoilers ;) .

  31. clutz12001 says:

Julia, I understand the Roswell situation perfectly. I understand the Jericho situation perfectly. Your explanations don’t “explain” anything other than your opinions.

I simply disagree with your narrow use of the term “failure.” To you, failure is Nielsen ratings/cancellation. To you, a failure is when a second chance does not translate into a third, fourth, or fifth chance. To me, failure would have been if shows hadn’t been given a second chance at all.

The fourth-season campaign for Roswell, then, would technically be a failure. The third-season campaign was a success.

You seem to confuse “show failure” with “campaign failure.” It is not the fault of the passionate fans’ campaigns when their show fails. It simply means the campaign was not enough to sustain the series more than once, beyond the Nielsen Monster. The campaigns were successful in their original intent. We just haven’t seen a sustainable success yet. It’s not a black-and-white situation. To say that a fan campaign was a “failure” because the series was only brought back for one season is akin to saying that a football team is a “failure” because they only won the Super Bowl once. No victory is sustainable indefinitely.

  32. Julia says:

I never called any campaign a failure. I called UPN’s experiment a failure. I’m done with this conversation because you purposely are twisting my words and it’s not worth it.

  33. clutz12001 says:

Lynne – an update on FNL – “after the Super Bowl” is the closest thing to could find in an answer as to when NBC will air the series.

  34. Julie says:

please don’t cancel lipstick jungle!!!! ABC cancelled CASHMERE MAFIA last year. This is the only show that I love of this kind….besides Desperate Housewives. But the two shows are different. Brooke is amazing and I really like Lindsay and Kim as well. I hope this show is saved.

Networks need to get over the fact that not every show is gpoing to get 15+ million viewers a week. Keep this show!!!

  35. Fin says:

Julie NBC would be exstatic if they got 15+, NBC’s scripted average if around 7.0 (half that) with their highest scripted show getting 9.something.

  36. Natalie says:

PLEASE sign my petition and send the lipstick tubes. If you think it’s stupid don’t do it and don’t whine about other people doing it.

Every effort should be made to SAVE this show. This Friday, if your not home or unable to watch it for whatever reason just leave your TV on channel 16 to help get the ratings up! PLEASE!

    http://www.PetitionOnline.com/lsj777/petition.html

    Thanks!!

  37. Otto says:

@Julia: “I never called any campaign a failure.”

You did, however, refer to Jericho fans as ending up “a laughing stock to everyone outside of themselves.” If you’re going to wave a red flag at a bull, as it were, I’m not sure where the room is left to later have a snit over the “twisting” of dismissive, aphoristic, and faintly gloating remarks.

Further to wit: “If you can’t articulate what it is that drives you to care so much about a show, is it really worth fighting for?” Do you really surmise that earnestly written letters were not sent and that honest calls were not made?

I don’t blame Nielsen, and I’m grateful that CBS took a flier on the last seven episodes. Neither do I blame them for pulling the plug. And I’m dead sure the tactic is not going to work again for a long time, if ever. But I don’t think any of it merits such broad-brush insult.

  38. Bill Gorman says:

Natalie, people aren’t whining at Quixotic crusades like yours, some are laughing, some are rolling their eyes, some are shaking their heads, but none are whining.

  39. moonlightfan says:

For the record I like Roswell, but I hated the direction they were taking the show.
The direction they took Jericho in (from what I had read of it) in the second season, was awfukl as well. I am partly happy at the fact that CBS is not controlling the outcome of Moonlight anymore, they are like to muck it up the way they had Jericho. They don’t seem to know how to manage any non-procedural programmes.

I think that life is too short to give a percentage of yourself to movements that an individual doesn’t believe, so for all of those who find purpose in shows such as Moonlight, Lipstick Jungle and Pushing Daises – all the best.

So many people out there are doing bad things, never loose faith in believing that what you are doing is the right.

  40. GRD says:

Just for the record, at least one of us isn’t laughing, rolling eyes, or head-shaking. I happen to like quixotic crusades. After all, people laughed at the original Quixote too. ;-) I’ve even been on a couple such crusades myself. Sure they fail most of the time. But if you love something enough to try to keep it around (as long as you do it with tact and courtesy), I don’t see that as silly or rude at all. I can’t say that “Lipstick Jungle” is my kind of show, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for crusaders!

  41. clutz12001 says:

Thanks, Otto and GRD, for the support of all us “laughing stocks.”
I never even gave Quixotic crusades a thought until I fell in love with Jericho. The camaraderie and kindred spirits made campaigning well worth the effort. I still check in on Jericho message boards on CBS and UHD, trying to keep the positive vibes going. Jericho fans even got some charity campaigns together that went beyond saving the show – peanut butter for food banks, and tornado relief aid to Greensburg, KS, to name a couple off the top of my head. Moonlight fans put together a blood drive, too, if I’m not mistaken.
As long as the crusader isn’t falling behind on bills (buying too many nuts, Tabasco, lipstick, etc…) or letting the crusade take away from “real life,” I say go for it!

  42. Julia says:

You know, or defrauding a fandom out of tens of thousands of dollars, like Leeser of the Moonlight campaigns did. http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/Moonlight

  43. clutz12001 says:

Julia, since your wiki page (wiki = anyone can write anything, not always fact-checked) was corroborated by a couple other sources, I concede that one individual may have defrauded Moonlight fans. That does not negate the awesome charity work, blood drives, etc… Your choice to point out the speck of dirt in an otherwise wonderful fandom does not diminish its positive aspects.

There were suspicious efforts in the Jericho campaign. A couple of people claimed to have “connections” to allow fan-based episode funding, for instance. Fortunately, we seem to have nipped those frauds in the bud. I know I never donated any money for any project that did not prove itself valid. I’m sure it’s easy to get wrapped up in something and let one’s emotions take over, leading to bad judgements. That’s a risk we all run in many aspects of life. Caveat Emptor applies when financing TV campaigns, just as it does when buying a used car ;)

  44. Bill Gorman says:

Julia, very interesting. We “knew” Leeser as a frequent poster on our site and referrer from her site. I guess not all the over the top fan craziness is harmless.

  45. Rachel P says:

Wow… That Leeser girl’s got some major issues.

  46. Yep says:

“Fortunately, we seem to have nipped those frauds in the bud. ”

Not for months and before Leeser ran off with more than $40,000 in donated funds :o

  47. Fin says:

Ratings aren’t always why a show is cancelled: sometimes when fans portest it shows a network that the show can be merchandised and possibly overall make more money that one to take its place. I knoq 18-49 is important but sometimes networks look at things differently.

  48. Holly says:

Yep, I believe clutz was talking about frauds in the Jericho campaign, not the Moonlight one.

  49. Julia says:

Bill, if you want to see some real crazy fans, go through the Fandom Wank wiki for a bit. It’s scary. But oh so much fun to watch as it happens, which is why I hang out at Fandom Wank.

  50. susan moore says:

I have never been an NBC viewer until now. this is the best show on tv. If it
is cancelled i’M done with NBC. Are they coundting the ratings from DVR tapings.

  51. Bill Gorman says:

Fin, you don’t say? Please give us an example of a broadcast network overlooking 18-49 ratings for merchandising.

Julia, no thanks. One thing I don’t need is reading about more crazy folks.

susan moore, We don’t know to what extent NBC cares about Live+7 DVR viewing, our guess is not much from a revenue perspective. You can enjoy those numbers here:

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/11/18/over-half-of-90210-viewing-is-by-dvr-greys-anatomy-has-largest-dvr-audience/8237

  52. Schmokey says:

Fans who petition nets to renew their low rated faves should really think twice. Jericho is a good example why. It was a pretty good show, but in order to bring it back, CBS made them make all sorts of changes and concessions (cast, plot, direction, budget, etc.). When Jericho did come back, it was no longer a decent show. It was horrible. The reason it was horrible is because it had sixteen fingers in its pie, and while that may make for a successful orgy, it is absolutely a guarenteed way to screw up a television show.

Nets are run by suits, for the most part, only they are suits who think they are creative. It’s always been this way, but it’s much worse now that nets are owned by larger and larger conglomerates. Used to be you were a business guy who went to work for a net because you wanted to work in television. Those guys actually had a love for TV, and while they may or may not have had any creative ability, they at least cared about television. To them, it was “television” and not “product.” And quite often they did have at least some creative instincts, if not actual ability.

Now the suits are increasingly made up from toaster salesmen who gets transfered to the network part of the company because they sold the most toasters at the best rate of return, and because clueless super suits at the top think that can be translated to a creative endeavor (”Look how creative that toaster campaign was—-he could run Heroes!!!!”).

So if Lipstick gets picked up, it will get picked up based on all sorts of concessions imposed upon it by people who don’t know what they hell they are doing. It will come back as Toasterstick Jungle, and it will suck horribly (if it doesn’t already, I don’t watch it), and then its loyal fans will jump ship (as did Jericho fans who had thought they were going to see the same show they loved during Season 1), and then it will get canceled again—quickly.

Increasingly, all shows have more fingers in the pie than ever before, but shows that have to suck up to the network after having their cancelation reversed are the worst. If your favorite show is not supported by its network, then you should just pray it stays dead, because there is nothing worse than an undead show that owes it’s life’s breath to a group of guys who don’t even watch television.

This also goes for shows on the bubble. Look at Eli Stone, which has now completely eliminated the music, tamped the whole “prophet” angle way-way down, barely shows any visions at all, and is now about a law firm dedicated to charity work. That’s about as 180 from the orginal premise as you can get, and it was likely all done to please suits who told the producers that was what it would take to keep the show on the air.

Get a good show, and then try and draw the eyeballs. That’s what suits should be doing. The cable nets have realized that is the way to success and are thriving because of it. The regular nets run their shows by committee and are dying a slow death as a result. It also doesn’t help that the broadcast nets cling to outdated standards and practices rules that no other successful entertainment company uses anymore, but I think the group sex approach to developing and running shows is more the problem than is anything else.

Like I have said before, first net to realize it’s not 1988 wins.

  53. clutz12001 says:

Schmokey, I do agree with you regarding the problems with Eli Stone. You think they are “too many suits” problems, rather than disjointed writing (post-strike writing)? Or some combination thereof?

As for thinking twice about fan campaigns – sure. But if the second thought still tells you to go for it, then have at it! I was not disappointed in Jericho’s Season 2 story line like apparently 25% of oringinal viewers were (if you base that info on Nielsen). Google “Chuck Baldwin” and “Are we headed for Jericho?” and you’ll see an article which pretty much sums up my feelings on Jericho Season 2. Esai Morales and D.B. Sweeney were welcome additions to the cast. Plus, they ran two really good romantic story arcs, IMHO. There were Stanley and Mimi, of course; the other involved the Hawkins family – strong, powerful woman and a crazy CIA operative who both show all the love to each other and their kids.

As for your group sex analogy – did CBS take that literally when they tried Swingtown? I hear sets are still up for bringing that one back. It has not been officially cancelled ;)

  54. Anita says:

I was a contributor to the “Save Las Vegas” campaign last year. Myself, with many, many other fans, sent in baby booties, to try to get NBC to at least give us an ending to the series. ( It ended with part 1 of a two parter). Well , NBC received lots of booties, but wouldn’t do the ending. So I would be very surprised if sending lipstick will help this show either. I have all but given up on NBC. LJ is the only show on the network that I am willing to watch.I think it is an excellent show. To the network , it all comes down to money. Viewer loyalty is second. They need to listen to the viewers and fans more or they are going to lose more viewers.

  55. Riff Rafferty says:

This just in: Brooke Shields claims “Suddenly Susan” isn’t cancelled, either! Yes, folks, it’s really coming back! NBC is just waiting to see what the ratings are like for that one episode they’ve still got sitting on the shelf!

Some helpful advice for “Lipstick Jungle” fans. When sending lipsticks to Jeff Zucker and Ben Silverman, please make sure that Jeff’s are all black and Ben’s are all white. Black is very slimming and goes great with a cue-ball head. White is Ben’s favorite color when he plays “dress up” on the weekends. He loves that color so much, he even powders his nose with it.

  56. Linda says:

I love Lipstick Jungle and as a matter of fact…I love anything that Brooke Shields is on. I met her on three separate occassions and she graciously posed for a photo with me each time, talked and signed an autograph. She is a class act.
Let’s ALL WRITE IN TO NBC to KEEP LIPSTICK JUNGLE ON THE AIR. Some of the other shows that are out there don’t even stack up to this show.

  57. Fin says:

Family Guy, Bill was picked up after being cancelled TWICE for just good merchandising (DVD Sales)? A show in the UK was never cancelled and goes for its 6th series because of around 400,000 DVD Sales (its called Peep Show)but has much less than the channels average veiwers (they have around 1.0-1.5 with network average at 2.0). Bill i think most shows do correllate to the 18-49’s but some networks may overlook it if they think that they’ll make more money elsewhere.

  58. Bill Gorman says:

Fin, I’ll agree that Family Guy was brought back after being cancelled due to cable rerun success and DVD sales, but that was *after* it had done well in reruns and DVD sales while it was off Fox. But that rare case doesn’t apply to any of the new shows or writer’s strike second year shows that are at risk now. It’s all about the ratings for them.

  59. Otto says:

“You know, or defrauding a fandom out of tens of thousands of dollars, like Leeser of the Moonlight campaigns did. http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/Moonlight

If I may repeat my objection to broad-brush insults, sticking to particular shows and actually making English sentences might help. To the extent that this verbless bit of typing might be intended as a response to my defense of Jericho supporters, I’m willing to call it scurvy and evasive.

  60. Lindsey says:

This show is FABULOUS and I will be very upset if they decide to cancel it. Oh and sending lipstick to the network is not stupid- I think it’s cute.

  61. Lindsey says:

This show is FABULOUS and I will be very upset if they decide to cancel it.

  62. abby says:

ah fuck it. first you axe cashmere, now lipstick. FUCK IT I SAY

  63. Sarah UK says:

Do we count in the UK? Fans can bring shows back just look at Dr Who bought back by one of its fans Russell T Davies now one of the most popular shows on the BBC with more than one spin off from it too.
If the US stop sending us then glam shows we love we should stop sending them the costume drama they die for.

  64. roy says:

Lipstick Jungle is an awful show and no the UK does’nt count. Nobody so far has died for your costume drama but people will die if you keep on sending over crap actors like Julian Sands and the clown that plays Brooke Shields husband.

  65. stacey says:

well season two has just started in the uk. and at first i was quite judgmental about it, but in all fairness i quite like it!!! i will say that the three women actresses do look like they’ve had surgery on the noses they still are pretty good!! and i dont think it should be cut!!!

  66. stacey says:

And since when does it not matter what we form the UK say???? we have it here, so we are entitled to have a say!!

  67. Chris the TV Sage says:

Well, when it’s done here, one of the UK’s networks would be more than welcome to pay to produce the show themselves.

  68. Sam says:

they cant cancel lipstick why do all the shows we love end up of the air and were left with crap sod the execs listen to the fans WE WANT LIPSTICK!!!!!!

  69. Hammer says:

Move it to UHD and let the ladies show more skin! Brooke has been doing that since Pretty Baby and Blue Lagoon and she still has what it takes to make guys go crazy!

  70. Marianne says:

I like Lipstick Jungle, my daughter and I, will watch it, no matter what night it is on. Just please leave it on. Please keep Andrew McCarthy on it too!

  71. joanne says:

My husband and I watch Lipstick Jungle. He likes it. I am definitely a fan. What’s not to like ? The writing is intelligent, the actors are beautiful, the clothes and jewelry are sensational. By the way, we are both seniors.
    Don’t stop the show.

  72. Penny says:

Politics oh sweet Politics…….Lipstick Jungle is the only thing I watch on TV….I use to watch Cashmere Mafia…..& Lipstick Jungle…& then you took away Cashmere Mafia to my dismay…however if you decide to take away this one & only Woman style tv series….I realize there is Desperate Housewives….sorry girls ….that show has never done anything for me…dah….I am afraid ….to see what will replace this…..another Dumb A%% Dective show? How can this happen? Perhaps you marketing people need to figure out a good time slot?

Cheers from Canada…a Lipstick Jungle Fan

  73. Sarah says:

I agree with Penny, sure my tv is on through out the week and I catch other shows, but this is the one show that I make sure has my full attention. I love the characters….and I can’t stand the idea of the series ending. I felt like a week was forever to wait-but never would totally stink!
I also think they just haven’t picked a “key” marketing time slot for the viewers it would capture and not conflict with other shows….
I hate all the “CRIME” shows, seriously all we have to do is watch the news…..they’re all the same “plot idea”. Watching Lipstick Jungle is like the lazy way to get to read a great book with a plot I can’t wait to see unfold between great friends I really relate to!

Please keep watching live you fans if that’s what they’re looking at?!

  74. gadgetgal says:

Plleease… All you ‘must watch it live’ people—Are you kidding???? Who does not Tivo or DVR most of their shows now-a-days? Time is a factor in everyone’s life and eliminating 15 minutes of commercials per hour of show is the way to go An entertaining show with women who have a mind and agenda that folks want to cancel??–Can anyone say Cagney & Lacey??? Powerful women apparently threaten male or quasi-male execs who bootlick the male majority who want yet another action packed shoot ‘em up show, that require no thought. Lipstick Jungle is a variant from the norm and is refreshingly entertaining.

  75. Drew says:

I’m still sending logs, donuts, and owls to ABC in hopes of getting Twin Peaks renewed.

  76. rosanne keen says:

how depressing…finally a show that i can actually enjoy and they are cancelling it!!!! as a woman who can’t stand other women…i really found all three characters endearing, funny and believable…oh lord…why is desperate housewives so popular…spare me…women need to evolve and lipstick jungle was only the beginning..

  77. jackie says:

This is ridiculous! This has bee one of the best shows since sex in the city. Yes I know it can never compare but who is trying to compare the two shows? It’s has humor, interesting story lines and lovable characters. Maybe the network wants this show to fail. It’s not even publicized with commercials or on talk shows. Trust me I know. I haven’t seen them anywhere except for Kelly Ripa interest in the show. This really breaks my heart. The network did not put the show on a good time slot, it kept changing it’s air time. It’s sabotage. If NBC does not believe in the show; another network needs to pick it up and it will do well else where.

  78. Dana says:

I love Lipstick Jungle and really hate to see the show cancelled ! I don’t usually watch NBC , but after listening to some friends talking about the show . I decided to watch it and every since then I have been watching it ! I think the show is better than SEX AND THE CITY ! NBC it would be nice if you could listen to your viewers espeically the new ones !

  79. Needa says:

I love~love~love this show! It’s getting so good with Niko connecting with her boss too! What could we do to get NBC to listen? I have watched every episode on TIVO, because that’s when I can. You know…when the kids are sleeping! They seriously need to take the DVR numbers into consideration these days. How could they not? I don’t ever see any marketing for this show either. The friends that I’ve told about it are hooked now too. This truly sucks!

  80. Charis says:

    I love this show..

  81. haven says:

I don’t even know what Jericho is, so I think you people should watch less TV and do MORE with your lives.

PS – Lipstick Jungle sucks. CANCEL IT!

  82. cassi says:

UGHHH!! I hope they do not cancel it! I love this show, even BETTER than Greys Anatomy or Desperate Housewives!!! I love lipstick Jungle! Tell everyone to watch!!!! :)

  83. Lori says:

I really don’t know why a show like this is being cancelled. Please reconsider. It is really a good show and deserves a second shot. PLEASE!!!!!

  84. No More Reality Shows says:

I wish all television studios would listen up… enough with the reality shows!! Your audience actually does have a brain and wants entertaining and thoughtful television. Too many shows are canceled before they have a chance to reach their stride. I’ve actually liked Lipstick Jungle from the start. I DVR it but watch it in the next day or so.

  85. Jesse says:

To all the people wondering how NBC could cancel such a “good” show:
The quality of a TV show has almost nothing to do with it being on the air or not. It’s all about ratings and money. That’s why shows like the critically acclaimed Arrested Development die, and shows like Dancing With The Stars get renewed year after year.

Remove the fact that you love the show from your mind, and look at the numbers, it doesn’t deserve to be on television. It’s not profitable, almost nobody is watching it, it has to go.

  86. Dana says:

OK I really like Lipstick Jungle. I loved Womens Murder Club (cancelled) I love so many of the shows on all the major channels you can’t watch them all at the same time so dvr is needed. Secondly the major networks play musical chairs with all their shows so darned much it is sometimes hard to keep up! I personally hate this, it is frustrating and rediculous. LJ, Life moved on nbc… Greys anatomy, ugly betty, private practice moved on cbs, House moved on Fox it’s getting stupid already. You get your schedule all lined up and then whammo it’s all moved around. Personally I DVR them all because I get sick of 20 minutes of commercials during an hour show. It’s just too much. On DVR I can fast forward on the DVR and not subject myself to commercials I have no interest in. As far as neilson ratings the number of families involved versus the number of actual people in the world is not equal in any way, shape or form. Honestly I am getting sick of the musical chairs the networks play with the shows and scheduling. I don’t know about anyone else but enough is enough already. They moved Life from Fridays to tuesdays LJ to fridays Now on wednesdays at 9pm est they play RERUNS of law and order svu, a prime time spot gets reruns??? WTF are they thinking? All the channels are doing it and I for one am sick of it!

  87. Kristy says:

Well NBC cancels alot of good shows like Las Vegas they could of did one more episode to clear everything up. Lipstick jungle was a good show and It was a show about women and how they deal with everyday life. NBC should really listen to the viewers and not cut the good shows but cut the stupid ones like Kath and Kim come on that show is pointless. Better not even watch NBC any more because they always cancel there shows.

  88. Holly says:

I do hope that this show does continue as I love it! It is the “new” Sex and the City. The dynamic between the actors is great as well as their love interests. You would think in a time of great technological advancement people would be able to better figure out an accurate number of viewers as I am sure there are tons of individuals like myself who DVR shows and watch them later.

Hope NBC renews it as they have seemed pretty weak lately in the lack of non-reality programming

  89. Angie says:

If NBC execs are reading this……..DO NOT CANCEL LIPSTICK JUNGLE!!!!
You air it on a busy social night……..I always record it. When I miss a show, I download it……whatever!
Get some real numbers guys. Most women love this show!

  90. Mindy BC says:

This is a great show.. and continues to be more interesting every episode. NBC has never really given this show a chance – this would be a great 8pm or 9pm time slot show on a Tues or Wed night- following a couple of good sitcoms.. I really hope we see it back – they keep cancelling the shows I love, and keeping crap shows..Hey- ER is leaving.. let’s give LJ a try in their time slot- I bet it would take off!!

  91. FARRAH says:

I WANT LIPSTICK JUNGLE BACK, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THE SHOW. FRIDAYS JUST WON’T BE THE SAME. IS IT ON TONIGHT OR INDEFINATELY CANCELLED? I LOVE SENDING LIPSTICK TO THE NETWORK, I AM ON BOARD!

  92. Maria says:

I love Lipstick Jungle!! Don’t cancel the show, it’ll be missed. Love all the characters, and latest fashion.

  93. Abbie says:

I can’t believe they cancelled Lipstick Jungle. Everyone is right… they keep all the crappy shows and cancel the really good ones. Lipstick Jungle was one of the best shows. Also Women’s Murder Club. That was the best detective show ever. Even my husband loved it. I think we should all buy a bunch of books and turn the TV off…. maybe that will send a message.

  94. NJMOM says:

Please bring back Lipstick Junge. I look forward to my Friday nights with the girls. Even my husband is a fine.

  95. MSM says:

Please, don’t cancel! I have to agree with the others. I keep checking the internet for more information and cannot believe that other useless shows are staying and LJ is going..

  96. clu says:

They cancel Lipstick Jungle, but keep all the stupid reality shows on. Someone needs to get a grip.

  97. warren h ashmann says:

With the stock of the networks declining and the obviious incompetence of there management over the years, it is obvious to me why advertising is down. When you get a great show like lipstick that deals with real issues, with a great cast you would think the newtwork would have some moral committment to a real show then the crap we have to watch. That is why cable is my choice for all of the series, ie. Dexter, Big Love, L word. Wake up NBC you have the biggest winner of all shows on the tube, milk it don’t kill it. WHA

  98. natalie says:

Warren said it all. Keep lipstick going!!!! Love the show!

  99. Erika says:

First – I absolutely love the show. I think the reason for it not receiving enough viewers is due to airing day/time and the amount of publicity. Not many people are home on Friday nights and advertising for the show sucked. Monday you run into conflict with Gossip Girl, Tuesday 90210, Wednesday reality TV show, Thursday Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy. The fan base for this show is all over which is great and they need to utilize this fact to concentrate on one specific fan base – women in their late 20’s – 40s.
Secondly – I hard that the show was coming back in the next month of so. Is this true or false?

  100. Erika, we don’t think it’s coming back at all. If it has to worry about shows on the CW, I definitely don’t see it ever coming back in any fashion whatsoever. I’ve seen nothing about it coming back next month and since production of new episodes was shut down and they haven’t made more episodes, that seems very unlikely.

But apparently some of the shows’ stars are trying to keep hope alive for winding up on cable:

    http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b98898_could_lipstick_jungle_move_another.html

  101. Danyel says:

I dont think that the show should be canceled I really like the show. However if it will be canceled can you guys please settle on a date.

  102. LEEANNE says:

PLEEEAAASE BRING BACK LIPSTICK JUNGLE! BOTH ME AND MY HUSBAND LOVED WATCHING THIS SHOW! ENOUGH OF THE VIOLENCE ON TV, THIS WAS ACTUALLY ENTERTAINING, NOT DEPRESSING. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? SEX IN THE CITY SHARES THIS FOLLOWING, CAN THAT BE SO BAD????? I THINK IT’S ACTUALLY BETTER THAN SEX IN THE CITY…….GREAT WRITERS, AWESOME CAST, WOW, POOR JUDGEMENT OF THOSE AT THE HELM. SERIOUSLY, I ALMOST NEVER WATCH TV ANYMORE, MY FAVS HAVE BEEN REMOVED: DIRTY SEXY MONEY WAS FUN, TOO!

  103. Kim says:

I think the show was great – I hope it is not the end of it – I have a few must see shows and this for sure made the list. Great writing and very entertaining…

  104. Mary says:

Love this show and ask you please keep it on!Looking forward to the next episodes….

  105. Christy H. says:

Please keep Lipstick Jungle going…every time I start liking a show, NBC changes their mind on a show. NBC wonders why their numbers are so low…Stop cancelling good shows. Lipstick Jungle has a very talented cast with some very big names. Please do not replace this show with yet another Law & Order or some other stupid comedy like Kath & Kim. Just give Lipstick Jungle a chance.
