James Hibberd reports that producers of all three shows have been informed that their series will not get full season pickups. This jibes with all of our numeric sensibilities, and we’ve been seeing it in the making for weeks. But rumors were rampant that Eli Stone or Dirty Sexy Money could be kept. It’s possible that’s true, but that continued ratings erosion this week killed off any chance of that. We’d presumed Pushing Daisies dead all along.
The networks held off on using the word “cancellation” but that’s typically the case. Hibberd seems to think since the shows are still on the schedules the networks want to leave a little wiggle room about it in the event that they order more shows. I believe it far more likely, especially given this week’s low numbers for all three shows that the network is avoiding the “c” word only because it doesn’t want to hear flack from advertisers who don’t want to advertise on shows that have been CANCELLED.
We may need a new category of as close to cancelled as you can possibly get — so close, that it’s the same thing as being cancelled.
Personally, while I’m sad for both fans of these shows and the producers and everyone involved with working on them, I’m happy it shook out like this. If they’d have kept Eli Stone, for example, we’d have seen 10,000 “how could they cancel Dirty Sexy Money and keep Eli Stone! WTF!?” I’m glad we won’t have to deal with that…
Again, there is no comment on the quality of any of the shows here, but from a numbers perspective, they weren’t on the bubble, they were well below the cancellation line. All three shows performed well under ABC’s average, and even before this week’s lousy numbers are factored in, they were ABC’s three worst performing scripted shows among 18-49 year olds.
Update: Hibberd also reports that Life on Mars will air after LOST at 10pm on Wednesdays as was earlier thought, starting January 28, but I’m not sure yet whether that means a full season pickup for the show. The latest on Life on Mars is that four new episodes were ordered, and that it will go on hiatus from December 11-January 28 when it returns airing after LOST.
Watch with Kristin has Pushing Daisies executive producer Bryan Fuller’s take on the news.

I’m really shocked got the balls to cancel three shows at the same time.
well they may still air all the episodes, so they could be on the schedule into January. ABC has a lot of stuff on the bench, so coupled with the low numbers, I’m not surprised.
Hmm, interesting. My sympathy goes out to the fans of those shows, especially the die-hard ones.
So are they keeping Life on Mars or are they still undecided on that Robert?
Vader, no word on Life on Mars yet.
More changes:
ABC books ‘Scrubs’ and ‘Mars’ for midseason
On the heels of its decision not to order more episodes of three key dramas, ABC is announcing two key midseason scheduling decisions.
The network is booking “Scrubs” for a one-hour premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 9 p.m.
Episodes will run back-to-back for two weeks, then “Scrubs” will settle into a 9:30 p.m. time period. The network hasn’t announced what will air as a 9 p.m. lead in, though one likely option is the new Mike Judge animated comedy “The Goode Family.”
ABC has slated “Life on Mars” to run after “Lost” on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. staring Jan. 28.
http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/11/abc-books-scrub.html
About time.
I’m hearing LOM still has life in it. We should know a lot more with how well it does tonight. I’d heard they were leaning to canceling ES so none of this is a surprise. Well at least not to me.
Kristin from E! is confirming the story: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b69940_abcs_bloody_thursday_pushing_daisies.html
I watch all three but would only call myself a fan of Eli Stone. I probably would have dropped Pushing Daisies after this season if it had been renewed and was on the fence about sticking with Dirty Sexy Money. So, for me at least, I am only going to miss Eli Stone.
How about a “WTF are they keeping Life on Mars for”?! I would much prefer to watch Ned bake some pie.
Yeah, WTF keep a show that averages 3.67 million 18-49 year olds (though admittedly, it’s been falling since the premiere) when you can keep a show that averages only 2.68 million (and falling). Who would make such a choice. I mean, it’s crazy. Oh, wait — that actually makes a lot of sense.
Nevermind.
^Life on Mars gets better ratings than any of these shows, and it’s a new show that ABC fought hard to get. I doubt they’ll give up on it easily.
Yes and I can see LOM getting some nice Emmy nominations.
Got to love Kristin’s reporting. Insiders told her EXCLUSIVELY! Yet Hibberd reported it before her and incidentally TV BY THE NUMBERS beat them all. Exclusive must mean something different to her.
Bye bye daisies, will always love you.
But we fans are not gonna give up. We will at least get a direct to dvd movie that wraps up the show.
I feel sorry for all the fans of those 3 shows.
ABC is such a downhill network in everybodys eyes right now.
I thought they had a heart but they are cold and heartless enough to cancel all 3 at once without giving them chances.
CURSE YOU ABC!
Anil, go buy the DVD set for Season 1. They need about 150,000 more units sold to justify a DVD movie and about 2,350,000 for a real movie.
Nick, Ausiello has that same odd definition of “exclusive”. I’m sure TV Guide and half the other entertainment gossip magazines/sites/shows do too.
I won’t be hard on Kristin (though I wish she wasn’t of a mind to rally the fans at times, I still love her). It’s possible Fuller or someone else at PD did talk to her exclusively, leaving a lot of other people to talk to Hibberd. I’d say Hibberd broke the story, because even w/your tip we didn’t have the Eli Stone news…
Anil, no offense man, but I don’t see it that way at all. ABC brought all three shows back. They just happened to be the worst three performing scripted shows on ABC. I don’t think ABC is cold and heartless for making the decision to move on with all three. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck for the fans and everyone involved — it surely does. But it’s not cold and heartless.
I’ll be sad to see Pushing Daisies go. It’s the most original show I’ve seen in a long time. I hope ABC gives it a chance. Maybe air some promos so people know there’s a new episode coming?
Holly, it’s generally a term used when you’re the one breaking the story. Ausiello is generally pretty good about it. I noticed he didn’t use it for the PD info. Karen however did, despite Hibberd beating her by what an hour?
The complete midseason schedule will be revelead tomorrow according to thefutoncritic.com
http://thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?date=11/20/08&id=7858
Boycott ABC, I’ll never watch ABC again…that never promoted my show…JK
Nick, I know what the word means, but thanks. While Ausiello didn’t use it this time, I’ve seen him do it before.
As I expected, it was Fuller who gave Kristin the exclusive, she’s updated the post:
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b69940_sources_daisies_eli_dsm_canceled.html
Perhaps an “exclusive” in the sense that no one else was on the phone line when they talked, or no one else’s email address was visible in the header
Robert, yeah but in your defense the ES decision wasn’t made until after I talked with whom I talked to (whom I’ve now talked to again). Still you guys decided to post an article online about it. Be happy you broke 66% of the news before anyone else even if you called it a rumor.
Now if you want something before the others… CUPID is going to air in the ES slot. At least today that is where it’s on their schedule.
I only watch Dirty Sexy Money of the 3 and I’m pretty sad to see it go. I’m sad too for the fans of the other shows. Everyone loves at least one show; sorry if Eli oe Daisies is yours.
On the brightside, as much as I love DSM, I’m still pretty happy to NOT see Life On Mars in the axed list. I hope it does well with LOST. Good night of TV there.
Holly, sorry posting too quickly on here. I’m sure you knew the meaning. I was trying to imply that I rarely have seen Ausiello use the word incorrectly. While I see Kristen do it often.
Robert, but Hibberd had quotes from Fuller first too (again by hours). He even talked to Hibberd first (as can be learned from his quote that he and stephen were playing phone tag, while for Kristen he had talked to Stephen).
gotta make room for According To Jim, I love that Jim
Kristin is saying know that is ‘BREAKING’ hahahaha such a loser
Nick, any rumors one what is going to lead in to Cupid?
I’m not really going to claim anyone is too anal on a site about analyzing numbers, but… Looks like Hibberd e-mailed with Fuller before he’d spoken with McPherson, and Kristin spoke/emailed with him after.
We’re definitely happy with our 66% exclusive even if it goes unrecognized and unheralded by the masses.
I had thought they might keep one of those three shows for the full season, but their ratings do all suck. Now, I don’t watch any of them so I guess I don’t care much. My favorites on ABC are pretty much all safe, now that Life on Mars is returning after Lost. We’ll see how it does there. I am cautiously optimistic.
Julia, sadly I think ATJ or BETTER OFF TED. Hopefully it’s BETTER OFF TED. Also hopefully BETTER OFF TED does better than ATJ.
Nick, No offense taken
ABC orders four more “Life on Mars” episodes
http://www.thrfeed.com/
Critics adore PD. Why haven’t we hear their takes/voices? What about all those award nominations?! It’s a sad day.
I think Brothers and Sisters is moving to Mondays at 10 but I’m just guessing, they will have a two hour special episode for March.
It’s too bad unique non-procedural/D-list celebrity shows just can’t seem to make it on TV.
In regards to the strike-suspended frosh shows:
ABC renewed one this year: Private Practice (which is starting its own ratings dive). Gone are the three mentioned here.
CBS renewed none. Canceled, Cane and Moonlight.
NBC renewed one: Life, which is dead in the ratings. Bionic Woman was canceled.
Any more from these three networks that I forgot?
Cool, yeah and it’s starting to look a lot like they may treat it like LOST with shorter seasons too. I’m sure if the block works they’ll try and keep it.
Andrea, CBS renewed The Big Bang Theory, which was the only one of their new shows whose numbers deserved renewal.
…and NBC w/Chuck.
Andrea, CHUCK on NBC. I don’t think the strike has anything to do with it. I think it’s either bad shows or shows that resonate with a smaller audience. ES and PD could do wonderfully on a network like USA for instance.
I think Bryan Fuller is a talented man who unfortunately burned his bridges over at SHOWTIME and has since put shows that would work on cable over on network tv. I just don’t think it’s a good fit. He isn’t main stream.
NBC also renewed Lipstick Jungle (which is now canceled). ABC renewed Samantha Who?
Any chances that other networks would pick PD up?
It’s not like a whole lot of people even watch tv wednesday nights. I think network is the wrong outlet for Fuller. PD is really one of the only shows on television that interests me. Now that I have no reason to watch it might be hard to catch my interest with anything new… That might just be why all the networks are failing. hmmm
LOL…what other shows does ABC have now besides LOST and GREY’S ANATOMY? … scripted serial shows.
and besides MARS…
Cookson, a whole lot. They also have BETTER OFF TED, CASTLE, CUPID, THE GOODE FAMILY, and THE UNUSUALS as midseason shows.
…and Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, and Ugly Betty…
They have
Grey’s Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
Ugly Betty
Brothers & Sisters
Life on Mars
Samantha Who?
According to Jim
Private Practice
Scrubs
and that’s it.
Reality:
DWTS
EM:HE
AFHV
Wifeswap
Superanny
Oh come on. ABC is not heartless? They’re the ones who have not promoted the show at all.
2 weeks ago during the Obama thing, they advertised it and got 1 more million viewers.
Than the show goes on hiatus and comes back with 4 million viewers? Who’s stupid fault is that? Come on!
SCRUBS, ACCORDING TO JIM, 20/20.
^ I’m not counting their midseason shows (Unusuals, Cupid, etc)
Cool, then why are you counting Scrubs and According to Jim?
Julia, ATJ comes back in a couple weeks, but I’m not sure why he’s counting SCRUBS (since it’s January 6th).
I’m sorry Julia!
I think ABC has way too many reality shows.
Some good news that long awaited midseason schedule from ABC is supposed to be ready for Press Release shortly. I’m told they’re still juggling a couple ideas.
Oh, well. As a huge Eli Stone fan, I’m disappointed. But since I’ve been watching this site and have been keeping up with the ratings/demo info, I expected it. So it’s not a surprise.
Nick C, I’ve heard that they are filming episode 12 of Eli Stone right now. Do your sources know if we’ll at least get the full 13 episodes of Eli Stone? I’d at least like a full conclusion to this wonderful series and the full 13 episodes. They still have yet to film episode 13.
Julia without an avatar, yes they’re being allowed to wrap it up. I’m sure this will mean a rewrite for the 13th episode too if the producers care about the fans for either DVD release or to be aired on ABC.
I would add an initial to make things easier, but I was here first!
two Julias :O
Nick C, thanks for the quick reply! I’m glad to know that we’ll at least get the full 13 episodes of Eli Stone. I just don’t like it when shows are suddenly canceled and aren’t given a proper conclusion.
And yup, the other Julia was here first indeed. Cute avatar, by the way!
Much better than my non-avatar.
I hate to see those shows go. All three were actually well written this week. I guess too little, too late. Maybe NBC will pick them up. All three would be considered hits when compared with their full season renewals thus far, ‘Knight Rider’ and ‘Kath and Kim.’
I think they should start to air B&S at 8/9 and begin to use it as a leadin.
Eli Stone was never any good to begin with.
Feel the most for PD fans, wanna cry over that.
Hope LOM fairs well behind lost.
What can I say DSMJ, I feel for yuh man. It hurts, it really hurts.
I think that NBCU will eventually cancel KR, with the loss of MOWE, I can really see them doing that. Unless they shop it to one of their other net like what they did with Monk, adding it to the USA sched.
I didn’t even really catch KR on NBC, saw a repeat on scifi. And liked it.
With the ratings I can understand why they cancelled Pushing Daisies but it just sucks when you love a show so much and it gets cancelled. I wouldn’t mind so much if they completed the story arc. But I hear episode 13 ends in a huge cliff-hanger. Let’s hope that DC Comics will finish it via comic book, or Warner-Brothers will make it into a movie.
-Kevin
moonlightfan, MONK is a creation of ABC it was originally a Michael Richards pilot (that was never shot). The show has aired on USA, ABC, and NBC (after NBC bought USA, and it aired MONK during the strike).
ABC Studios (previously Touchstone) could try and shop PUSHING DAISIES to USA but who knows if they will.
Ok Tuesday Night on ABC is looking like SCRUBS at 9/8 central, THE GOODE FAMILY at 9:30/8:30 central and CUPID at 10/9 central.
I’m sad to see PD go, but we’ve known for awhile that it was most likely canceled, so I had time to adjust. I haven’t been as into Eli Stone this season as last, so I’m not heartbroken about it. I am glad to here that LOM is still around for at least a little while. I’ve really enjoyed the show so far and I really like Jason O’Mara. You gotta love someone who raps Ice Ice Baby one week, then moonwalks the next.
Well, I don’t know if that’s any better than According to Jim, but here’s hoping. But Cupid just has to last through February for DWTS to start up again.
We would have gotten the order for a back 9,
we missed a 30 yd field goal, jeez. PP bleeds a million plus viewers and DSM gets the old fold and hold.
What a ride, so close.
You guys were right , the index works pretty good and Nick C knows his stuff, although I am not sure he knew how close we were to an actual back 9. If you are ever in LA (Robert or Nick or Bill , beers on me for my stressful tirades here. I was holding on to hope, I really believed in this show.
I will miss you guys and will check back hoping for the miracle of a 3rd season due to a huge spike in December!!
My heart goes out to the cast and crew of PD, ES, and DSM. The fans lose here as the shows while not behemoth nielsen machines definately were fun to watch.
I’m actually rather glad to see that ABC is putting LOM following Lost starting in Jan. IT makes sense. During season 4 of Lost, they showed a commercial of Life on Mars; ABC was advertising to that particular demographic of sci-fi people.
If LOM follows Lost, there’s a good chance that it will capture the Lost crowd looking to fill a gap that we all know is coming; Lindelhof and Cruse announced that there are only 2 more seasons left at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con International.
I hope it succeeds, as I do believe that ABC has a show that will get better. Character development was a little slow, but it’s definitely building and growing by leaps and bounds over the last few episodes.
ugh, well i REALLY HATE TO see PD go, but what the hell, it has been a GREAT one and a half season (22 episodes) . i’d forever love fuller for creating that show
While I am something of a believer in prestige loss-leader shows, “Pushing Daisies” went from 13 million viewers to 5 million viewers. In short, it got what it deserved. I feel a lot sadder for shows which are dead on arrival, never find anything resembling an audience, and are yanked off the air quick than shows which had an audience right off the bat and drove it away.
Greg Berlanti just spread himself too thin (and “Dirty Sexy Money” was a massive mess). ABC did him a favor.
To the LOM commenter who said the lead rapped one episode and moonwalks the next. First of all, you can’t call that rapping. Even Vanilla Ice’s version was far superior and I think that says enough. And it’s a disgrace to call the movement he did a moonwalk. It’s a longshot from being my fave show but I have to admit I enjoy it. Sorry for all the PD fans, seems another cultshow is born. My heart goes out to you.
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles rocks!!!
Oh noes, PD :/
My wednesdays will never be the same again. Bye Daisies :/
I’ll miss Ned and Chuck.. and they’ll never get a real happy ending as I presume.
Digby is fired :O
Wow, that leaves only one show left on ABC that I watch. Ugly Betty. Here’s hoping my other fence shows Life & Chuck get renewed for next year.
Thanks Nick C, I didn’t know that. I always thought it was originally an NBC show that moved to USA.
But hopefully USA will seriously consider picking up Pushing Daises as Monk is in its final season. I think it would be a proper replacement for such a quirky dramedy.
dsm should move to cable. it could be appropriately more raunchier that way.
Sad to see Pushing Daisies go, but expected nonetheless. I’m just happy Private Practice has managed to hold on, despite the weak lead-in. ABC are moving it to Thursday on 11 December for repeats over Xmas, so it only has another 3 episodes in it’s original slot before it at last gets a decent lead-in come January.
I am so happy I never started any of those shows . So now the cancelations don’t hurt at all . This season I started all my shows in cable and I am really happy because i know they don’t cancel shows as much as CBS , FOX….I am enjoying True Blood and Sanctuary and I am more than happy both got 2nd seasons even with not 10 million viewers . Last year my favorute show was canceled in a very bad way , it was bad for all the family. We learnt our lesson . This year HBO and SciFI between others are our favorite channels. We don’t watch the big networks anymore.
Huh, this is weird. I just saw one of those random ads here for some custom tshirt site and lo and behold what should be on the advertised shirts but “Save Pushing Daisies!” and things like “I love Ned.”
Congralutations to ABC
In this case FOX or CBS would have been cancelled Pushing Daisies a long time ago
Very disappointed about DSM, but very excited about LoM (especially after last nights episode … what a mind blower). I will continue to watch remaining episodes of DSM in some small hope that it does get picked up, but I’m honestly not holding my breath.
Rachel P: The ad system on this site searches for keywords and chooses an ad appropriately. That’s why there’s a Jeff Dunham ad on the front right now (is there a huge market for Jeff Dunham ringtones?!)
I would note that buying a shirt from these people would make *zero* impact on ABC or Warner Bros.
What’s really sad is that three original shows were axed so that the 1-to-1 copy of an excellent UK show could survive. Seems like network television has hit a new low.
Alde, that’s not how it works. Even if LOM had also been axed, these three would have been. They were deserving of cancelation in their own merit and had nothing to do with saving any other show.
I watch all three and am really just tired of getting into new shows only to have them cancelled in a season or two.
I really can’t seem myself investing in a regular network show anymore.
It’s too bad I can’t save money buy cancelling them from my tv lineup like I can with the cable ones. LOL
How appropriate is that, for a title of a cancelled show?…
Pushing (up) Daisies…
Since Alias left – I don’t watch anything on ABC…nothing…
and you can throw NBC in there with them…I haven’t watched anything on NBC (cosistantly) is………..HMMMM… wow… since FRASIER!
…those 2 netorks are boring now…
I love Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone.
Looking at the ratings it amazes me how so many people can watch garbage like Dancing with the Stars when good shows are getting canceled.
NOOO!!! did ABC even try to sell these shows to cable channels??
Yeah Chris, that’s exactly my point. And I agree with Wendy, too. The best course of action with network shows pretty much seems to be holding off starting to watch them from scratch. That means, let them run their course and see what ’sticks,’. Then choose your favorites based on that and start to watch one. Otherwise it’s just unhealthy (I think I might do it myself with the new batch of ABC Mid-Season shows). On the flip side, I can start to watch some cable show with relatively calm heart knowing that the chances of something bad happening are quite low. A lot more healthy prospect.
DWTS is not garbage, I think there’s two types of reality shows. Good realities like DWTS, AI, Amazing Race, Survivor and crap like Flavor of Love, Tila Tequila, etc. I watch DWTS is fun and dont blame me with that.
No!
I just hope that they give Eli Stone a proper ending.
Don’t leave the show on a cliff hanger or with unresolved issues!
No….”CIRCUS WITH THE (PRETEND) STARS is garbage…but we don’t hold it against any poor misguided person.
Well PD deserves to be cancelled. with those ratings is logical.
Yay for Private Practice, surviving the strike and manage to stay alive with that crappy lead in!
I agree with R.G.
Yeah Chris, I assumed that’s how the ads worked. Just thought it was strange that PD would show up on a tshirt site.
Normally I would have watched pd also, but I am so concious now about having my favorite shows cancelled. That is why I never watched PD really, just took in an episode or two. I never stay up to watch shows later than 9pm – what is the use if they are only going to get cancelled. At this point in time the only best bet is Oprah, there is no continuing storyline to get hooked on, hoping and wishing for the outcome of the characters, after 1 hr that is it. On to the other story.
Alde, I knew you had problems with silly arguments about some show being smarter than another, but now you’re making up things about LOM. It is most definitely not a copy of the British series. They’ve decided since the get go to not follow the “he comes out of the coma and commits suicide,” storyline. So it’s only copying the premise: cop gets hit by car and wakes up in the 70s. There are even different character types on the show. It’s different not a 1 to 1 copy.
What’s sad is there no place for good writing today in tv. With the lost of both Pushing Daises and Eli Stone I will currently be watching ZERO shows on ABC til lost comes back. So if they have a good mid season show I won’t hear about unless I hear about it from one of the many podcasts that I listen to. So I guess more of my time will go to Netflix instead of network tv.
I work for Watercooler, a developer of sports and TV apps for Facebook. Speaking from the standpoint of social media, I can tell you that our Facebook application for Dirty Sexy Money never received any traction whatsoever. Fans just weren’t interested in it. Pushing Daisies on the other hand has a pretty devout following even if it is only ~20,000 people. But if the almighty ratings aren’t there, they’re not there. Would be interesting to see if those ratings change when looking at online streams in addition to broadcast TV.
DIRTY SEXY MONEY IS THE BEST SHOW SINCE DALLAS. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING.
All three were interesting shows but, as has been mentioned, I’m not sure any of them really should have been on broadcast television. PD was almost certainly on borrowed time but might have flourished on SciFi or USA. DS would have benefited from a network like Showtime where they could have taken the gloves off an gotten truly dirty instead of network dusty. Then there’s Eli Stone…. I’m not sure that series would have found an audience much larger than it did anywhere. I’m all for high concept – I like Life on Mars (US) despite also being a fan of the original – but some of ES left a lot of people I know just saying, “huh?” at the end of an episode. And not the sorta good “huh?” they say after most episodes of LOST.
I’m not surprised ABC is giving LOM a little more room. They paid for a second pilot, paid top move the production to New York and paid for Keitel & Imperioli. It went from a series whose bigger money went to the licensing rights and Jason O’Mara with a relatively modest budget for everything else to a series that costs a lot just for the cast & location. I’ve actually liked the direction of the series and am glad it has diverged from some of the areas covered by the UK version. The original idea was to produce a version of the classic BB cop series, “The Sweeney”, an extremely violent early 70’s drama and contrast it with the modern day cop. If the US version would have taken the same idea too heart, dropping the modern cop into what is essentially a 70’s cop show, they’d have had to remake Kojak or something similar as that period was the era of the TV super detective on US television. I’m trying hard not to compare the US versions of the characters with the UK versions because you just can’t. On its own, the US LOM is a decent period cop show with a high concept hook and an appealing cast. It should do fine after LOST. Of course, I thought Journeyman & My Own Worst Enemy would benefit from a Heroes lead-in, so what do I know?
I hope Fuller doesn’t go back the Heroes. It’s a sinking ship. He needs to take his talents elsewhere and start anew. Like Kring’s latest cry; “Screw the hoi polli and network…we want cable!”
I know this site is all about RATINGS, but I just want to say this:
While I agree that, ratings-wise, PD definately deserved to be cancelled, I think that QUALITY-wise, it did not.
Yes, yes… I know that this does not matter to the network at all, I’m just saying that I think if you chose which shows to save/cancel based on originality, comedy, entertainment, and over-all QUALITY, Pushing Daisies did not deserve what it got. It really is one of the most interesting and entertaining shows I’ve ever seen.
I’ve still got my fingers crossed for a Movie or comic book to wrap up the series the way Fuller wanted it to. It deserves that, at the very least.
Where’s that new ABC schedule? Didn’t they promise they would release it on Friday? All they did today was issue a couple of press releases confirming the time slots for Life on Mars and Private Practice and the premiere date and time for Scrubs (will the show stay on Tuesdays at 9 beyond January 6 or will they air According to Jim in that timeslot after all?). I suppose they still haven’t decided on the final schedule. They’re not sure what to do. Because they can feel it in their gut, whatever they do – it’s going to BOMB! ABC Tuesdays are going to BOMB! (and not only Tuesdays…)
So long for Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money
I hope Life on Mars gets a 2nd season.
How did Bryan Fuller burn his bridges with Showtime? I’ve never heard that before. Although I was surprised when it was cancelled, so I guess I’m not surprised that there was a story behind that move.
Richard: please don’t assume your definition of “good” writing is universal.
Amanda: same with your definition of “quality” program. Millions of former viewers of PD disagreed with you and bailed on the show as the weeks went on.
The facts are these. This wasn’t a show that never found an audience, this was a show that had a huge audience and *lost* most of it.
These angry fans who clog up the internet with venom for all of the unwashed cretins who don’t watch their unbearably quirky show only serve to make me root that much harder for their show’s cancellation.
And you shouldn’t get offensive just because someone disagrees with you. It’s pretty hypocritical how so many people here tend to wash down certain arguments and/or perspectives just because they’re dead set that their version is more superior. Guess what, it’s not. I’m all about the fact that every person possesses a different point of view. I can’t expect it to be any other way.
However, what pisses me off is when certain individuals have made it their personal crusade to say negative comments about someone else’s individual perspective. Someone’s favorite show got canceled. They came here to express what *they thought about it*. They thought it’s quality and that the writing is good. You may very well disagree on their choice, but that doesn’t make it wrong and doesn’t mean that you’re supposed to come here, offend them and give your own individual perspective just because you know it’s different, just because you know they won’t like it and just because you’re sure you’re right. You’re not. Quality is a purely subjective and ambivalent base-line in its nature. Move on, please.
Alde, you can’t begin to comprehend how hypocritical you just sounded.
yeah can people stop complaining about this. stop blaiming ABC blame the viewers who didnt watch not the network.
LBColby, with the exceptions of Tuesday 9:30, Tuesday 10:00, Wednesday 8:00, and Saturday, they’ve announced the schedule piece by piece. Sometimes you just have to put it together yourself.
(All times Eastern/Pacific.)
Schmokey, Bryan Fuller had a fight with Showtime and decided to leave and try and take his toys home with him. The other writers and people behind the show didn’t follow him and kept on to finish the first season and do the second season and now the upcoming Direct to Video DVD. He had a spat and left the show. So basically the show runner in an argument left and in the process left SHOWTIME having to get a new show runner. That is how he burned his bridges at SHOWTIME.
totally agree with amanda. quality wise Pd did not get what it deserves.
but what the hell, quality doesn’t mean anything without money. sheesh.
i also don’t agree with a comic book, i prefer a movie
