ABC Moves Ahead Of NBC in Adults 18-49 For The Season

Posted on 01 April 2009 by Bill Gorman

After 27 weeks of the 2008-9 season, through March 29, 2009, ABC has moved ahead of NBC, and into 3rd place, in the important adults 18-49 demo on a season to date basis with an average of 3.58 million to NBC’s 3.55 million. Of course if you consider that about 10% of NBC’s averages are due to the Super Bowl week alone, ABC is averaging even better than NBC for all the rest of the weeks.

In other news, Fox continues to expand its leads for adults 18-49 and 18-34, and cut into the CBS lead in adults 25-54. CBS has the most average adults 25-54 with 4.77 million, followed by Fox with 4.70 million. Fox only moved 0.01 million closer to CBS last week. At that rate, they may not pass CBS before the season ends.

CBS continues to hold the average viewership lead for the season with 11.20 million followed by Fox with 9.14 million. Those positions are not going to change before the end of the season in May.

Fox holds the season to date lead in adults 18-49, and is not likely to be dethroned, averaging 4.39 million adults 18-49 to CBS’s 3.88 million. With an average of 2.00 million Fox occupies the top for adults 18-34 followed by NBC with 1.55 million and ABC with 1.52 million. Note that NBC season averages are boosted approximately 10% in each category due to the Super Bowl.

djm, NBC is in 2nd place in 18-34, just ahead of ABC, but if you consider that about 10% of NBC’s average is from the Super Bowl week alone, without that game, they’re well behind ABC. Even with the Super Bowl, there’s a reasonable chance that ABC passes them in that demo before the end of the season.

    ABC ROCKS!
