I think the Mentalist/NCIS pairing will still be here next season. It gives CBS a huge power rating 2-hour, and I think they will put the NCIS spin-off at 10, to have a Mentalist lead-in.

Flashpoint and The Ex List have similar demo numbers that’s interesting. Eleventh Hour is somewhat disappointing. It was doing so well and faded so fast.

JuliaG, even on FOX last night’s results for Harper’s Island would not be very good. But it looks like CBS will air all of Harper’s so you can at least be glad that it’s a self contained season!

I guess I’m not as used to the CBS guidelines! What CBS expects in its shows and such. I mostly watch FOX. So for FOX, Harper’s Island ratings would probably be good.

Does anyone knows for sure if all the main actors of NCIS will be returning for the 7th season? Cause I heard something that either Gibbs, Tony DiNozzo or Ziva might not return, is that true or just a rumor? I wanna know, so somebody please tell me. I think that the main characters should stay on for the 7th season, together they make NCIS.

I love Eleventh Hour so I hope that it gets renewed. It’s a great show and way better than Fringe.

Julia #2, Generally speaking, shows on CBS need to maintain close to a 3.0 in the 18-49 demo to be safe. Of course, Friday shows are lower (keeping a 2.0 is good enough for Friday). Also, CBS really wants to build a second comedy block, so the Wednesday comedies are getting more leeway. Since you asked about total viewers, 10 million is not all that good for CBS, even the Friday shows maintain that. Most hour-longs get 12 million or higher.

From the table above, HI’s season-to-date 18-49 rating is 2.4 whereas the network average season-to-date 18-49 rating is 2.9. So HI is mare than 17% below the network average for CBS.

I’m confused. Harper’s Island got between 8 million-10 million for its first two episodes so far. WHY would that merit a cancellation? It’s key demo ratings are like 2.7.

What kind of ratings does a show need to have on CBS in order to be a keeper?

Lourdes– Sunday would be hard to figure out. 7:00 and 8:00 would probably be the same (60 minutes and The Amazinf Race) however what 9 and 10 would be is harder to figure out. My best guess is if CBS keeps Cold Case for another year, which I think they should do if WAT is dropped, then the schedule could be like this….

7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 The Amazing Race
9:00 Cold Case
10:00 NEW SERIES

As you can see considering The Unit is going to be axed, if Cold Case is staying CBS would likely try something new to air after it. If CBS doesn;t want to keep Flashpoint on fridays, sundays at 10 could be a good place to put it.

Fridays
For fridays it seems CBS would likely try something new in the 9:00 slot. Flashpoint has worked well, but it seems possible CBS may want to try something new and hold Flashpoint for midseason.

I believe that The Unit, Eleventh Hour, Harper’s Island, and Worst Week are not coming back and things aren’t looking good for Gary Unmarried and Without a Trace. I think CBS will give Cold Case another year and same eith Old Christine, and if CBS axes christine, ABC has announced they will pick it up, possibly pressuring CBS to keep it another year. I think CBS should keep Christine regardless in order to stick with their Wednesday night comedy block. Christine/Rules combo is the best for next year.

Can anyone tell me {for sure} it NCIS is going to be renewed for another season? I am fan of NCIS, it is my favorite show, I watch it all the time- new episodes as well as the reruns. I really hope that they renew NCIS for a 7th season, and they should because it has been doing really well. Anyways, I really hope they renew NCIS, please someone tell me if they are going to renew it. Thanks.

Harper’s Island was a real letdown. We watched the first episode, decided that the Groom is the killer, and tuned out. I say KEEP “THE UNIT” and dump COLD CASE, ELEVENTH HOUR, and 1 more year for WITHOUT A TRACE.

They may launch the new NCIS spinoff in the 9 pm Tuesday spot, but leaving it there permanently would seem like too much of the same thing, I’d think. There’s a reason all the Law & Orders and CSIs air on different nights, rather than altogether in a block.

Thursdays are a big revenue night for networks, even at 10. I’d guess they’d at least try The Mentalist there before slotting in an altogether new show. The exception might be the NCIS spin-off, but only if it skews younger than the original.

Mondays could look like this with the only change being 9:30 since everything else is doing well.

8:00 The Big Bang Theory
8:30 How I Met Your Mother
9:00 Two and a Half Men
9:30 NEW SERIES
10:00 CSI: Miami

The Mentalist could be moved to Tuesdays at 10 so the NCIS spinoff can air at 9 like so. Without a Trace would likely be axed then.

8:00 NCIS
9:00 NCIS Spinoff
10:00 The Mentalist

Wednesdays could look like this if CBS sticks with the comedy block, which I think they should. I believe CBS should not try out new comedies at 8:30 and stick with established ones.

8:00 Old Christine
8:30 Rules of Engagement
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 CSI: NY

Thursdays would have a change at 10 with everything else the same.

8:00 Survivor

The key demos aren’t based on who has the most money to spend. They’re based on whose purchasing decisions are most likely to be influenced by 30 second television spots, a very different question.

Most people 50 and up don’t have their brand decisions changed based on television spots. There are other ways to reach them, and advertisers spend money on those, also. But the broadcast television model is based on selling advertisers 30 or 60 second spots for hundreds of thousands of dollars. That only makes financial sense for certain kinds of products for certain age groups.
