On a weak Sunday night for broadcast television, ABC topped the adults 18-49 ratings easily, but keystone Desperate Housewives drew its lowest 18-49 rating ever (4.1) for an original episode. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition also hit its lowest rating for the season, as ABC on average fell 6% in the demo vs. last week.
At 8pm, the season finale of Amazing Race topped the 18-49 demo and fell only 6% from its finale last spring. In this broadcast environment, 6% down is the new up! CBS on the whole was down 8% in the demo from last week.
While the 3 hour finale of Celebrity Apprentice was 31% lower in the demo than its spring finale last season, it helped boost NBC into second for the night and make it the only network up (14%) vs. last week.
The Simpsons was down 22% in the 18-49 demo from last week, leading the entire Fox lineup lower by 17% vs. last week.

Shows are sorted by 18-49 rating in each time slot.
Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2009 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

great news for the great amazing race.
Wow all shows have suffered lately.
Is it because of all the sport playoffs or something else?
Are ABC just not promoting Desperate Housewives enough?
Maybe Grey’s will start beating Desperate again. Sad that no network got a 3 average for the night.
Cold Case topped DH in viewers at 9:30! Wow.
“Sit Down” has been pulled from the schedule indefinitely. My condolences to the “Arrested Development” fangirls. We know how much you thought it was “SMART!”
What has happened to sundays? Especially you, Fox.
Two questions.comments:
1. When people watch shows on the digital HDTV feed of a network, is it still not counted? Because The Simpsons recently went HD, and ratings have been down.
Also with The Simpsons, seems like it has been suffering ever since it was made available on Hulu, Fox.com, and iTunes.
I’m glad that The Amazing Race can still pull in strong numbers as it really is one of the only reality shows worth watching. On the other hand, I have no idea how Celebrity Apprentice continues to thrive. I watched the premiere for probably 15 minutes and that was far too much (I really should have known better).
King of the Hill is now pulling the same numbers Sit Down, Shut Up had a few weeks ago. The Cleveland Show can’t start soon enough for Fox.
Ed, what gave you the idea that HDTV viewing wasn’t counted?
LOL. SDSU is dead and gone…
I still really cant feel sorry for DH
ABC has to be worried about DH’s fall this season. I think people are loosing interest in the show as the story line is becoming too over the top and doesn’t have the same quirkiness that made it a hit in the first place.
NBC has to be happy with Celeb Apprentice. There was a lot of outrageousness in last night episode that is already creating good buzz on the internet.
Celebrity Apprentice did a great job for NBC
I think it’s really tough to get a younger audience to sit and watch live TV when the weather starts to get nicer. I know myself (who falls into this demo) was doing Mothers Day things, I had a softball game and yard work. I think the network season should probably run through April. This will produce less reruns in between new episodes (something that has hurt DH this season as well). With this, I think the networks need to promote a more agressive summer schedule (may-aug) with shows that can score lower ratings and still be successful (reality shows, combined cost shows such as Flashpoint, FNL and specials). With that said, network tv must find a way to get this demo to watch more live TV. If that is how they are going to continue to monitor ratings for advertisers. I’m not sure what the answer here is.
I don’t think the low rating says as much about the show as it does about the show not being must see tv when you are in that demo and the weather is nice and you are in the 22nd week of the season.
I think DH is slipping a bit because the show is getting BORING. As a DIE HARD fan of the show (the only program I watch every week, without exception), even I can admit that the show is getting a little lazy. However, last night’s show did set up some interesting storylines so it should be interesting to see how they’re resolved in next week’s 2-hr finale.
Brothers & Sisters is definitely hurting, and I have the feeling next year will probably be its last — not sure why ABC is wasting such a strong timeslot on such a weak performer.
As for the ratings in general, I think Mothers’ Day + nice weather + general spring/summer viewership erosion hurt Sunday’s numbers big time.
I thought someone said it wasn’t counted back a few years ago. Didn’t know.
Riff, where did you hear SDSU was pulled? Fox.com shows you are right.
Looks like Sit Down, King Of The Hill, and the American Dad repeat pulled FOX down a LOT, especially the 7-8PM hour (averaged a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo). FOX averaged a 2.4/2.5 the rest of the way, so they’d still be in 3rd or 4th, but just barely. I guess that will be an hour free that FOX has next Spring. Do you think they might put ‘Til Death and another comedy show there? I think Cleveland will be left in King Of The Hill’s spot unless it completely bombs in the fall.
I think Ed is right that a few years ago that the separate HD channels on broadcast and satellite networks were not counted (not sure about OTA). Nielsen had a small SNAFU with this as recently as the Super Bowl, when its early reports were short by ~5 million viewers because the HD was apparently not counted on some cable systems.
NBC doesn’t need any of their bubble shows, just show 3 hour episodes of Celebrity Apprentice next season!
For jeesus sake!!!!!!
Abc need to start making desperate housewives on their promos more often!!!
It’s nor good enough that it sinks to such lows because of it’s stupidity
It just annoys me that such a good show gets low ratings when it is the same greatness as greys
But that seems to be getting better because it is getting more adverts
Sort it out now or the shoe will fade away even more and become invisible ax it had this season really
It’s hard to believe but Sit Down, Shut Up manages to keep getting worse. It’s absolutely awful. It came on when I didn’t want to start anything before the 8:00 hour, but I only lasted 5 minutes.
lost this week beat DH in the 18-34 demo and almost tied it in the 18-49 – interesting.
I’m still wondering how the Cleveland Show is going to do? I have a hard time believing that it will be that successful. Unless they either totally expand on Clevelands character or add some other character’s to it. Maybe they can kill 20 minutes some of the time with a chicken fight like they do with Familty Guy.
“weather”…Here in the SW, where the weather is nice 300+ days a year, people still watch TV.
The poker player should’ve won on the apprentice. I’m impressed with la misma luna i didnt think it was ganna do good.
WOW thats really bad for DH! But Brothers and Sisters didnt drop from how it does on a normal night so thats good
At this point i cant see the premier of season 6 having 18 million viewers!
It’s sad that the two biggest shows on NBC are reality shows (Biggest Loser and Celebrity Apprentice). But it’s by their own hand that the network is being destroyed. They fail to nourish (i.e. promote) the few good scripted shows that they do have, and instead hype the reality stuff. And then hang their heads and wonder why their scripted shows don’t get better ratings. That is except for their “pet” shows, like 30 Rock, The Office and Heroes, which they promote the hell out of. But good shows like Medium are left on their own, to sink or die by the few million diehard fans who tune in no matter what the network does with the show. When the network could be attracting lots more fans if they would just do some stupid advertisements for the show, not to mention give it a decent lead-in.
I think NBC should put Medium on Sundays at 10 next season. They’re gonna hold it till after football season anyway, and it’s really a 10pm show. So they should put it on Sundays after Celebrity Apprentice. That way, it’s off the killer Monday schedule, they have the 9 pm blocks to launch their new shows, and Medium has a fairly decent lead-in. I mean, look at L&O:SVU. It’s had The Biggest Loser as a lead-in for years now, and it’s got killer ratings (for NBC anyway). Sure, it’s an L&O show, but still, it could be worse if it didn’t have TBL for a lead-in. So why not try giving Medium a decent lead-in and see how it does?
And Medium could surely do lots better numbers on Sundays, with the softer competition there (Brothers & Sisters and The Unit). That’s just my thoughts anyway.
The Apprentice may have been down vs last season, but last night’s episode did very well versus this season’s episodes. CA pulled nearly double what Dateline and Kings had been getting at 8pm. Thanks to that boosted lead-in, the 9 and 10pm hours of Apprentice scored higher than every airing this season except for the premiere.
Actually, I’d say NBC even does a terrible job of promoting its “pet shows,” at least when it comes to The Office. They did a horrible job with the Super Bowl and the rest of the time, NBC mainly concentrates on 30 Rock and whatever new comedy is failing at this particular moment.
lol NBC only promotes shows that are written about NBC or reality… any predictions on Leno going 5 nights a week? i’ll say average of 1.5 and high of 2.0… NBC is dead, with only 3 shows worth watching (in my opinion)
I watched some of Sit Down, Shut Up and I could definitely see why the ratings suck.
Love The Amazing Race, happy to see good numbers. Isn’t it just a game show? I don’t really know why it’s listed as “reality”…Reality in my mind is crap like “Hogan Knows Best”. I mean it’s not like we go to the teams homes and see them eat Chicken Of The Sea or nothing…Cold Case looks pretty good too, right? I want that show to survive.
Poor Fox… Simpsons were amazing last night. I’m glad CA did well, NBC can be happy to have a great show like that that also performs well.
Also meant to mention Brothers & Sisters. I watched it lastnight and I think it might be the last time I do. I enjoy about 5 seconds of each episode now. It’s the most melodramatic OTT show on tv right now. Everyone on cell phones, just plain stupid overeactions to nothing, and not to mention everyone is so self-righteous. It used to be a not half bad show now it’s just too much to stomach. Who’s writting these scripts? Terrible.
@ CDRWwithEarPlugs:
I agree. I love Sally Field and think she’s a terrific actress, and I tried to like this show, but it was just too whiny and overdramatic for me. As weird as the Walkers are, and as quirky, they should be fun to watch, but the incessant whining and the constant melodrama (how many “lost” siblings are they gonna find before it’s over?) turned my stomach after a few episodes. I gave up on it long ago.
Great season of The Amazing Race. And even better numbers for it!!
Hopefully CBS will see the light and order two cycles of TAR for next Season:
Thought Marge and Luke really had it..Would have been nice to see an all girl team win…done in by a pig, and a bad cab driver!
Brothers and Sisters isnt doing so Bad….
Ive never seen more than the Pilot – and it wasnt my thing. But its not doing horrible – that said I think they could move it – and it would get a 2.5-2.6 – which is worth keeping.
OH MY GOD!!! What’s the problem with Desperate Housewives?!
I thought it would have less viewers this season but they have gone from 17-18 million to 12-13 million! I think ABC should warn the producers of the show to try their best and return to the magcic of season 1. Something has to be done here otherwise season 7, at this moment known as the last season, will be a rating disaster!!!
One advice from me: Keep the pacing fast! A lot of times you can feel the central storyline is getting dragged out! Also, the housewives should interact more with each other! Oh yeah, bring back some, or introduce some teens. I liked the diversity of the cast in previous seasons (Julie, Danielle, Andrew, Zach, even Dylan from season 4)!!!
It was Cold Case’s season finale (or series finale?) last night, that’s why I believe the viewers increased in the last 30 minutes.
Desperate Housewives is still getting well over 10 million views per episode, we dont have to worry about that show !
Can some post the ratings for Breaking Bad?
preair, they won’t be available until Tuesday.
I don’t understand… The Unit doesn’t even perform that badly for a 10 PM show on Sunday night, how come they cancelled it? Is it because it is too expensive for these ratings?
Jean, CBS has to cancel something to make room for new shows, so the lowest performing shows (other than Friday shows) will be the ones to go. The Unit is one of their lowest performing shows.
Is there a pattern of low demos in the 10 pm timeslot from Sun to Thu? Or it doesn’t matter?
I don’t get it
Cold case is one of those shows expecting me to be cancelled but yet it gets 11-12 million a week. More than ghost whisperer to be honest.
Nothing to worry peeps. DH is still at the top of their game. This is clearly a pattern,ratings-wise. And DH is already in their season 5,right? As you can see, DH rivals such as CSI and Grey’s Anatomy are averaging from 12-15 million viewers per original episode this season. Even the newcomer, The Mentalist, a ratings hit, is not going beyond 17 million or at least. There must have been some reasons why viewers are deducing to this rate.
As for DH, what a brilliant episode last night. I can’t wait next week for the finale. Bye bye Dave Williams
It was up against a few finales wasn’t it? Desperate Housewives I mean…
So it’s kind of understandable that it got lower ratings then last week, it will probably go up next week since it’s the season finale!
yes. It’s a two-hour season finale next week scott.
kinda weak numbers for the season finale of brothers and sisters… it had to be the most boring season finale of the show yet, it really left no story lines floating… and it alluded to an answer for the main cliff hanger. the finale was more comedic/lighthearted than containing any real drama.
overall though, mothers day hurting ratings?
lol
im sorry, which shows this sunday just had their finale???
@Louie, Cold Case is still one of CBS’s lowest rated dramas, particularly in the 18-49 demo. Yes, Ghost Whisperer is lower, but it’s on Fridays which means there are lower expectations.
Can someone tell me about the sunday shows which just had their season finales? thanks
@DesperateLecter, Cold Case, The Unit, Brothers & Sisters, Celebrity Apprentice, The Amazing Race…I’m not sure about the FOX shows or Extreme Makeover.
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/listings.aspx?date=05/10/09 That lists finales.
must be the reason why DH hits its series low, huh? Although the irony is, it still won the night. Thanks Holly and Julia
Actually, those shows didn’t really get a ratings bump from the finales, so that’s not it. Though, it was Mother’s Day and HUT levels were significantly down.
We must be really boring in my household. We took my sister-in-law out to dinner and were back well in time so that she and my niece could watch DH.
HUT levels? Im sorry noob here
HUT=households using TV. It’s the percentage of all TV households that actually had them turned on.
@Desperate, HUT level refers to the amount of people watching TV overall (on any channel). Apparently there were fewer people watching TV this Sunday than any other Sunday since September.
Thanks Julia and Holly.
guhhhhhhhhhh!
I don’t get why Brothers & Sisters were lower this week! its the freakin season finale and Desperate Housewives too! Next week is the season finale and ratings are keep falling down! can people just stay at home before the season ends! It’s ok if just the middle of the season but its the penultimate episode.
And amazing race too! i was expecting 12 million! and it didnt hit 11 million viewers
11million and 12million for DH is just uhhh doesn’t look good Grey’s Anatomy didn’t cross that number yet and it has a stronger competish!
And oh isn’t sad for Brothers & Sisters
SEASON 3′S FINALE IS LEAST WATCH EPISODE OF THE ENTIRE SEASON 3 OF BROTHERS & SISTERS!DAMN
ROFL @ ABC fan…
ABC is completely to blame for the current slide in the ‘Desperate Housewives’ ratings. I don’t know what’s going on in the promo department but they need to start promoting it from a new angle. This Seasons promo has been complete whack, the spots always making the show look like it’s a light fluffy dumb brainless soap opera. That’s not how the show used to be promoted in it’s earlier years. They used to take themselves seriously and the promos made it seem like there were scandals, deaths, and plot twists. Now it’s just stupid promo on behalf of ABC. They couldn’t even get Edie’s death right!
Deasperate Housewives really hasn’t been that good this season, i can see why the ratings are down. There were times this season when i have been watching it and thinking to myself “why am i watching this crap”? I think they should shorten next season to focus more on the mystery plot and get rid of filler and pointless flashback episodes. I can’t believe they are going to drag it out for another 4 seasons.
Have always been a fan of the Amazing Race, but just wondering what happened to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s ratings? At one time it consistently beat The Amazing Race in it’s time slot. Do viewers not want to watch people get new houses in the current economic market?
As I predicted last week, cold case for the first time ever topped desperate housewives in total viewers from 9:30-10pm . cold case will definatley be renewed!
tom, total viewers mean nothing.
Tom, too bad renewal is based on demos, not total viewers.
Boston had Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics all playing Sunday night.
Desperate Housewives is better this season than last year, actually all of the dramas of ABC (Lost, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, Boston Legal, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers & Sisters) are better than last season (quality-wise). Thats why ABC rocks! but the viewers can’t stop watching procedural shows!!!! its so boring!
I agree with Julia. It’s amazing how “Housewives” and “Cold Case” are neck and neck in the time period — but “Cold Case” is the show on the bubble.
CBS or any network for that matter would be stupid to cancel a show based on the antiquated A1849 demo when their viewership is still healthy.
Terrence, CBS has to cancel some shows with OK ratings (total viewers and demo) just because nothing is failing. It’s not like Cold Case is a top performer in total viewers for the network but has poor demos; it’s not doing great in either. CBS has to make some room on the schedule, so some shows that normally would be safe, aren’t.
I must be the only one who gets the whacked out humor of “Sit Down, Shut Up”.
I cop to not reading through all the comments, so if this has been posted already, sorry. But it looks like FOX bumped Sit Down, Shut Up from the schedule for next Sunday in favor of a KOTH repeat. Whether that’s just for the final Sunday of May Sweeps or more permanent, I don’t know:
http://www.fox.com/schedule.htm?src=menu_item_schedule#time:1800~week:2009-05-17
Under the listing for KOTH it includes this note: [VIEWER'S NOTE: SIT DOWN SHUT UP is preempted tonight]
Julia, I disagree with both you and this site. I am not saying that the 18-49 isnt important and isnt a factor in renewing a show but it isnt the sole factor. total viewers definatley plays a big factor and I am 100% certain that cold case is going to be renewed, the show ranks 18 in overall viewers and isnt going anywhere. Just because this site states that cold case is on the bubble doesnt make it so. I wish people on this site would have more of a discussion instead of just constantly agreeing to whatever the moderators of this site says., it makes for boring discussions. Anyway, when cold case gets renewed for its 7th season, I will be back here to brag about how right I was.
Holly again you are wrong about cold case not being a top performer in total viewers. when you look at the season to date rankings, cold case is #18 in total viewers and that is out of over 100 shows. I wish people would do their homework more on this site
here is another post from a kevin “total viewers mean nothing”. again a statement that is so wrong. you people are just sheep on this site
tom, I think the homework assignment should probably be yours. Many TV trade publications (like AdAge and MediaLife) ignore viewership and household ratings entirely, and present only 18-49 demo ratings. Because that’s all that matters to the business.
hi tom…can u tell me the ranking of desperate housewives this season thanks
Tom, Not counting the Friday shows (which have lower expectations), Cold Case is one of the lowest rated dramas in total viewers on CBS. The only show it always beat was The Unit. Some weeks it beat 11th Hour and WAT, some weeks it lost to them. The Unit is going to be canceled and the other two are also on the bubble with Cold Case. (Keep in mind that the season averages include in time-slot reruns, which makes CC look a bit better since it has only had two repeats compared to WAT’s 3 or CSI: Miami’s
grrr… CSI: Miami’s 8.)
Desperate Housewives went DOWNHILL after the writters strike….the story lines and plots were stupid and boring! it felt so rushed!… DH most definetely lost its magic…this season is nothing compared to seasons 1-3….can I get an amen?
In regard to Cold Case and its poor demo, it’s never going to be a top performer in that category, but if CBS brings it back, there is one thing that can be done to help it maintain a demo average around 3.0. The main focus of the show is the cases and the time period in which they occur, and it’s always those cases pre-70’s that get the lowest numbers. If it returns, the producers need to keep the cases in the 1970’s to present time period. It would also help if they start working out deals like what they’ve done with Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon and feature music from one artist. I’m sure having episodes featuring the music of Pink, Britney, and Timberlake would be well received.
what the hell happened to DH? These numbers CANNOT be right! It has not dropped in quality the ENTIRE season and all of a sudden its at a 4.1?!!!? Not possible. Everything seems to be dropping like rocks these past two weeks. What the hell?
I hope next week’s 2 hour season finale sparks interest with the murder of MJ being advertised.
Nielson needs to go away and we need a new system where EVERY television in America is accounted for. That’s so easy to keep track of too because Networks monitor what people are watching. Add em all together and you got not only ACCURATE ratings, but ACCURATE viewers too.
@ Jesse: AMEN!!!
Everyone seems so normal these days (except Dave) on Wisteria Lane. Where are the scandals, where are the really DESPERATE people? The storyline of Dave is good but it’s taking forever. For season 6 I think there should be new neighbours, like a complete family, that will have a connection with someone of the housewives. Maybe someone of their children will start a relationship with one of the Scavo twins. I really want the Scavo’s be a part of a mysterie.
I think it’s a great idea to shorten the seasons of Desperate Housewives. The storylines will have a better pace and there won’t be any filler scenes that Gaby and Lynette (and their family) usually gets.
Oh yeah, get rid of Katherine, please? She’s so boring lately, it’s like i’m watching a soap! Just focus on the main housewives!
WOW, so much critisism to my favorite show on television…
Despert Still good and even when its down it still wins the demo
as you can see everything is down cause of the Holiday i bet next week with the 2 hour season Finale it will be back up
There not there yet but Network Televisions business model is in trouble. Ratings slowly continue to slide on the majority of programing. It will be interesting to see what the television landscape will look like in 5 years.

Scott: It’s getting boring, predictable, and way too short – I would like to see two hours minimum, with some three hour episodes, and more “nuts and bolts” about the construction of the house.
Plus, it may have already jumped the shark, given they’re going to “heroes” this season – what next – homes for billionaire robber barons or homeless broadcast executives or “Lost” fans?
Wait a minute – add Steve Watson from “Monster House”, and Jesse James, do theme houses based on ABC shows, and they might have something
Pearl Jam helped Cold Case.
How the hell does a show go from a 2.1 to a 3.8 in ONE NIGHT?!
(i’m talking about Apprentice if you didn’t know)
ITA about CC needing to focus on more timely or legendary artists. It’s a natural “product placement”. CC somehow has managed to land in the Top 20 in viewers even though nearly half the original airing were pushed back 30 – 45 min on ET/CT. DH drop is shocking. I’m not sure what they can do to reboot the show. The flashforward didn’t really work, which is too bad. I haven’t watched since first horrible episode of Season 2, but always held out hope that they would capture that magic from Season 1 again. It seemed possible if they did “mystery” as the theme for each new season. Oh, well.
For mother’s day I called my mom and we did a watch-and-chat for the American Dad repeat and The Simpsons.
She loved American Dad. For the Simpsons, “Craig, that wasn’t very funny.”

I’m willing to wager that a lot of the people who watched the Apprentice were watching the Amazing Race finale for the 8:00 hour, then switched over at 9:00.
That and I’m sure there were a number of people who weren’t aware the finale was three hours and started at 8:00.
Amen to Jesse!
DH lost its magic by stretching out the crappy storylines this year. The 5-year jump proved to be yet another stunt with no long-term effect on the characters, just like last year’s tornado. Dave has been plotting to kill Mike/Susan for the entire season and any suspense this story had initially was lost the minute Ms. McClusky & her sister stopped investigating his past. There are no compelling stories currently that make me want to tune in. I’ll probably watch the last half hour of the finale to see if Dave carries out his plan but I’m not sure if I’ll watch at all next season based on how bad this year was.
Since nobody else mentioned it I will: Celebrity App. escalated from 2.4 to 3.6 over its time period. King of the Hill to Family Guy: 1.8 to 3.2. Are you trying to tell me CA isn’t taking a significant # of viewers away from DH?
jay, with the data we get it’s very hard to draw any kind of conclusions like “those viewers left show X and went to show Y”.
With all the way’s to watch a program, how does anyone know what the ratings are. Even though number are down on viewing on TV some people may be watching on the internet and that doesn’t count.
You have to remember, most DVR’s can only records two shows at once, but people that own computers on pull them up any time and it doesn’t count as viewship.
In the old days if two popular shows were on at the same time both would take a hit (like Dallas and Miami Vice) which aired at the same time until Vice was cancelled.
I believe that sort of information exists though I don’t know who sees it, but I’ve seen examples of audience flow from Nielsen in a textbook.
DH is so bad these days. I consider myself a huge fan but i dont blame people turning off it. Its terrible now. and they get rid of the best charactor on the show this season. Shame on Marc Cherry. He should be fired.
Bill, didn’t mean to sound combative. Of course the data you provide can only lead me on that topic to sort of futile speculation. I just think – again as someone who is neutral I believe – that CA gaining viewers its second hour is a sign of health for a show whose popularity surprises me, at least ( It’s also true that as a reality show it is more likely to gain viewers for its second hour. ) And damn it, DH is losing 18-49 viewers incrementally each week.
OK, SDSU is making TSCC and Dollhouse look like mega hits…lol. I can’t wait to see if its ratings fall any further next week. It would be hysterically funny if Jericho passes it next week.
Hey, did Hole in the Wall do any better in that time slot? I know its ratings were scary, but were they that scary?
at the beginning of the season, The Simpson where getting about 7-8 million viewers a episode, KOTH where getting 7 million, Family guy was getting close to 10 million, American Dad got 6 million, what’s happening? And i don’t see Sit Down Shut Up living too much longer, despite how much i love it.
DH — – — Prediction — – — 2 years left – then: good-ridens’
I have to say that all the comments about DH been rubbish this season amaze me. The show has had a great season with some stunning episodes, the 5 year jump forward really refreshed this show.
And this is a long running show,of course ratings will dip, but its still pulling over 10 million and normally is around 14 million, i dont think ABC will be worried to much
CBS canceling The Unit. . . . It figures, as it’s one of the best shows out there. This is the main reason I watch non-network shows. If it challenges the viewers’ intellects, perceptions or mores, it’s a goner–unless it’s tearing them down, of course.
