Ratings: ABC, Grey’s Anatomy Win “Finale Thursday”; But Declines Continue

With 12 broadcast show season finales on Thursday, ABC lead by Grey’s Anatomy swept the night averaging a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demo. However, the series and season lows for many shows continued, and NBC’s Thursday woes intensified.

Fox was the only network up Thursday on a year to year basis, increasing its demo rating 22% vs. last season. The season finales of both Bones and Hell’s Kitchen were up from last week.

With it rumored to be renewing several low rated comedies, ABC seems to be pursuing a ratings suicidal strategy just to try and keep comedies in its line up. Ugly Betty’s coming back, but do you really want shows that can only pull a 2.0 demo rating? While the Grey’s Anatomy final was up from last week, and at its season average, it was the lowest rated season finale episode ever, down 18% from last season.

More season finale declines at CBS where CSI posted its lowest original show rating ever, in a season finale. That’s got to hurt. A lot.

NBC’s Thursday pain continues to get worse. Even with 4 season finales out of 5 shows they were down 4% in the demo from last week. The Office had its lowest original rating in two years, and that for a season finale. Their new, and newly renewed shows, continued to be problems. Parks & Recreation stabilized (at least for a second week) at a pitiful 2.0 rating, while Southland continued to fall, hitting a series low 1.7 rating last night.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

And southland continue to go down… 1.7 is horrible

  2. Dario says:

    OMG! Southland noooooooo!

  3. cool says:

Damn, Grey’s reminds me of Friends.. the show has a lot of buzz right know.

And how low is CSI compared to the last season finale? didn’t hit 20 million last year?

  4. gmyers says:

Looks like ABC and NBC really made a lot of money with their winning of the 18-49’s demos. They will be able to charge a lot next season for commercials. I think CBS can appeal to businesses that sell things for older people. When it comes to a business like this it is clear that ABC and NBC are the winners on Thursdays.

  5. Jenna says:

You know…I watched Southland last night and I loved the episode and the finale looks good next week! I haven’t liked any episodes since the pilot, but this one really showed what it can do to be GREAT! I loved it…too bad the ratings are so TERRIBLE…It will probably wins awards though…which is probably why NBC hasn’t axed it. It’s a quality program. Parks and Rec still sucks though…IMO…

  6. Jeff says:

How many episodes of Southland and Parks&Rec has NBC committed to for next season? Any chance they’re trying to reduce those commitments?

  7. CP says:

Good for Bones to come in second. Smallville is starting to get on my nerves. NBC continues to look stupid for renewing Southland so soon.

  8. Bill Gorman says:

gmyers, NBC was 4th in the 18-49 demo last night, or are you connecting to our site from an alternate universe today?

  9. Dario says:

    12 finales !!

  10. Michael says:

Wow, Southland’s doing as bad as Knight Rider- is there any way NBC can change its mind about renewing it?

  11. Jeffster's Fan says:

The Office and 30 Rock were great last night. Too bad more people didn’t tune in. I’m sure their Live +7 numbers will go up.

  12. Diane says:

Southland wasn’t the season finale? Did NBC order eight episodes? What will the lead-in be next week? A rerun of 30 Rock? That could hurt even worse (but it won’t be opposite Grey’s).

  13. dovepage says:

What is going on with Bones’ renewal. Still no deal with upfront on Monday. Is this just posturing by the network or do I need to worry?

  14. J. Norman says:

I don’t know how low the CSI numbers were last year, but I can certainly comment about how far they are going to slide next year. That is, if the absolutely, totally unbelieveable sloppy writing on this show continues.
Spoiler alerts if you didn’t watch.
I have been a long time fanatic for CSI, but I found last nights episode surrounding the re-surfacing of a closed casinos chips pretty much insulting to the intelligence.
Let’s see, A casino is going to close forever and must destroy its chips. What is the best way to do that.
We know, lets send a couple of blue collar guys out to a remote facility in the desert and trust them to destroy the chips. Never mind they have millions of dollars of value if re-circulated. That’s OK, we won’t have any one from the gaming commission, police, or any other state agency witness and doucment the destruction, we won’t ask for any residual proof of destruction, we’ll just take these workmen guys word for it. I won’t go on it detail about the circumstances surrounding the chips re-surfacing 28 years later but that is almost as improbable as the circumatances surrounding the “destruction”
No wonder William Peterson took off. He probably got a peak at some of these scripts. I find the ghosts over on Greys more beleiveable than this CSI finale.
Oh, and although Lawrence Fishburne is a fine actor. He is not working in this role. Sorry.

  16. ded says:

Lucifer being released from hell didn’t even help the CW. Damn.

  17. Ismael says:

OMG, Grey’s Anatomy hit the 17 million mark at the end! :D Talking about cliffhangers, last night’s episode was AMAZING!

  18. Ludias says:

supernatural was up! season finale: awesome!!!

  19. Chris says:

It probably didn’t help that I seriously had no idea this week was the season finale week for NBC. When I saw on the Guide it was the season-finale of The Office I was flummoxed. Usually they go for an hour-long, and it gets more hype. Most people probably didn’t realize.

  20. AMT says:

Southland’s demo was pathetic last night, and Park & Rec wasn’t much better. NBC execs must be banging their heads against a wall today! What were they thinking by jumping the gun and renewing these shows before tracking the rating for a couple more weeks?? If the final decision didn’t need to be made until May 19th, what exactly did they accomplish by announcing them early?? If I were an advertiser, I definitely would NOT want to advertise my product or business during a commercial break of these two shows!

  22. Hot Pocket says:

It looks like the procedural nation was all watching NY and the test for SouthLAnd will be next week against a repeat of Flashpoint. Guys don’t get worried about that rating for SouthLAnd trust me, it had its biggest competition to date and had no chance with a weak lead-in.

If the final decisions didn’t need to be made until the 19th, what exactly was accomplished by jumping the gun on these two shows? The NBC execs must be banging their heads against a wall today after seeing these ratings. Is there anyway they can retract from their decision at the upfront and decide not to renew them afterall?

  25. T says:

Ouch! 1.7 that’s got to hurt NBC.. so long for Southland… Darn too bad they’ve renewed it already.

  26. Jack says:

Can we give SOUTHLAND a golf clap?

  27. Mega64 says:

Wow, Survivor was #2 in the demo last night. Impressive, though Probst was doing the whole talk show circuit this week hyping this episode and the finale up.

  28. BlueLick says:

Great ratings and congrads to Grey’s after a rough stretch for them as ABC after the year they’ve had needed that from one of their originals.

ABC’s Ugly Betty improved that timeslot but is not the show that it once was. Those numbers should be what the new crop of ABC comedies should be looking at. If they can get between 6-8 million viewers and low 2s in the demo on Wednesdays this summer with Wipeout, The Goode Family, and Surviving Suburbia then that will be okay in my book. I’m sorry but those ratings have now become solid in today’s shorten live TV audience climate.

CSI: NY to me overshadowed big brother LV with their best episode of the series and one hell of a cliffhanger. Out of the CSI series NY has the best close net cast. NY will work anywhere on the schedule but I think CBS should actually move either the NCIS spin-off or The Mentalist to Thursdays at 9pm and have CSI take care of that 10pm slot and leave CM and NY alone on Wednesdays which has proved to be the best duo on TV the last 4 years.

FOX is slowly turning into a force and once they plug in So You Think You Can Dance into their fall schedule next year will be a strong competitor to 1st place next season even though it still is years away from beating the Tiffany Network CBS.

    Don’t get worried about SouthLAnd
GUYS! Don’t start worrying about SouthLAnd right now. Most of the people that started watching it probably haven’t watched it since b/c I know I haven’t and people I know who were watching it the first two weeks. I’m not abandoning ship on this show and it sounds like I’m the only one not worried. I was planning on watching this show once the season is over which ends this Wednesday and once the NBA Playoffs cool off. SouthLAnd is one of the most unique shows with this kind of rating. It saw its most competitive competition to date with Grey’s finale which was heavily watched, NBA Playoffs featuring the Lakers, NHL Game 7s, and the most dominating 10pm procedural on TV right now outside of Miami, CSI: NY. I always bring up my procedural vs procedural theory b/c its 60-70% effective against new shows without a developed fan base which is what SouthLAnd is. The only show not effected by that theory is SVU b/c it has an established fan base which does well in repeats and on cable for years and years. When you’re a new show like SouthLAnd you’re going to struggle to new lows but you don’t give up if you’re NBC. You just make sure you program it away from procedurals.

Don’t you guys find it odd how SouthLAnd’s numbers went down as soon as CBS programed procedurals even strong repeat players their numbers went down. So I know I’m not wrong on this. The best thing NBC can do for SouthLAnd’s renewal this fall is to program it Mondays at 8pm or 9pm with SVU and I guarantee the numbers get to Bones or Lie to Me like numbers.

Next week it goes against a repeat of Flashpoint which can still effect its ratings but it should definitely go up to 6 million viewers at least which would be a strong improvement for this show.

Don’t worry about SouthLAnd’s ratings last night. Trust Me!

  29. Phate says:

The Bones cast last night really showed what their capable of, it was some of the best acting i have ever seen on TV. I wouldn’t be surprised if Emily starts getting movie deals.

Hot pocket, you say that the test for southland is going against a replica? Dont you think is a little easy?

  31. Sycore says:

“More shows are reaching record low.” Duh, don’t people realize live viewing is dying a slow death. This is a on demand world. Nielsen live numbers are meaningless. Why watch it live when you can DVR it or Download it an hour later and skip all the commercials?

  32. Charles says:

Would you guys happen to have the half-hour breakdowns for Smallville and Supernatural?

  33. Calvin says:

I think your comment system is breaking…

  35. haelohm says:

    dovepage:

At the end of Bones last night (AMAZING episode by the way) Fox said that Bones would be returning with new episodes in the fall. So dont worry it will be back!

  36. mwa says:

parks and Recs and Southland have been renewed by NBC, yet Medium and Chuck are on the buble and may not be renewed???

And we wonder why NBC is in 4th place….

Medium and Chuck should be on in the fall, and Parks and Southland until the Spring to see if viewers actually stick with them. My guessing is no, since viewers are barely there now.

  37. Stacy says:

It’s amazing how much the Supernatural finale had in common with the Lost finale. Both shows had people discussing destiny, both had one character convincing another character to kill someone, both had the evil or bad side seeming to win and both ended in a white out.

  38. melbye says:

    CSI:NY, on a Thursday?

  39. Maggie says:

Greys Anatomy Premiere for the fall will hit 18 million viewers. There is gonna be buzz all summer and that cliffhanger will definitly bring old viewers back to atleast check out the premiere. LAST NIGHTS EPISODE WAS UNBELIEVABLE!

  40. shelly says:

Is it possible Southland did so bad because it was up against the much-hyped Grey’s 2-hour finale?

I tried watching Southland for the first time last night and found it completely unengaging. It just felt flat. The coloring was too dark (is a black and white show??), there was no underscore whatsoever (I say underscore is as crucial in a tv show as it is to set the mood in a movie) and the whole bleeping thing was very bizarre and distracting. But since NBC is stuck with it I guess they’re going to try to make it work next season.

  41. rasmussen says:

Southland is still beating Mujeres Asesinas. This is Nbc’s hit show.hahahaha

  42. Larry says:

Smallville beating Earl among 18-34 !

Supernatural so close from CSI in the 18-34 !

  43. Paul PT says:

This ratings are to bad to be real!!!

Grey’s anatomy is the only show pulling some decent numbers in total and demo numbers.

CSI have the same demo rating that wednesday night Criminal Minds???

  44. Tommy says:

Ouch competition or not NBC can’t be happy with Southland with these numbers. I see the finale getting a bump next week only because it’s going up against repeats on the other networks. But it will have absolutely no leadin due to repeats in The Comedy block. If Southland can’t pull a 2.5 in the demos next week I think NBC will be worried. Buyer’s remorse will definitely be setting in I’m sure.

  45. Tom says:

Sycore – “Nielsen live numbers are meaningless. Why watch it live when you can DVR it or Download it an hour later and skip all the commercials?”

Kid, you really don’t understand that the entire reason for the Nielsen system is to attempt to determine how many, and what demographics, of people watch the _advertisements_, not the shows, do you?

NBC doesn’t get money when you watch The Office, they get money when you watch the tv ads during The Office. If you aren’t watching the ads, you mean nothing to them. (You are actually a negative to them – they are producing shows for you and getting nothing out of it in return.)

    In actual ratings discussions:
CSI is finally showing its age. I doubt CBS will catch on and move it this Fall (a Mentalist/CSI combo on Thursday would work, I’d say), but it wouldn’t surprise me to see a December/January shakeup of the schedule that does just that.

I’m pretty sure NBC has no out with Southland. A Friday 13-episode funeral seems like a lock. Cue Chuck fans whining about their leadout (a concept I have never understood) in five months?

Parks I am not quite as hopeless about. Although scheduling is the problem – if you dump it at 8pm (where it belongs), ratings will never improve. So which show NBC decides to hobble at 8pm will be interesting to watch.

  46. Missy says:

Supernatural last night was amazing, I can’t get how it had such low ratings. That’s the first Supernatural episode this season that has lower total viewers compared to last year.

  47. Kathy B. says:

What a great season finale for Supernatural. It was the only show this season that I couldn’t wait to watch week to week. Also, the only one I watched live. Still haven’t seen the Fringe and Lost finales.

  48. Samuel says:

Woow, I can’t believe Southland has dropped so much… well.

Supernatural last few episodes had really low ratings… I guess the freaking hiatus are really killing the show momentum

  49. Samuel says:

Woow, I can’t believe Southland has dropped so much… well.

  50. Margo says:

The “Bones” hold-up was mentioned in “Variety”
    http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118003685.html?categoryid=14&cs=1
“As for license fees, the networks continue to squeeze the studios — and the studios are attempting to hold the line by preemptively shopping their shows elsewhere.”
“Just days before Fox was set to hold its Monday afternoon upfront meeting in New York, the net still didn’t have a deal in place to bring back “Bones” — despite the fact that it’s from sister 20th Century Fox TV and that the show has helped turn the Thursday night lights back on at the network.”

  51. Stacy says:

I hope The CW learned there lesson and won’t try to start all there shows so early next season. All it did was lead to about three long hiatuses for every show, and what happened? All there shows are down. I’m really glad Supernatural has only one season left, then it can go out on top and leave this horrible managed network behind.

  52. It’s been said elsewhere above already, but despite any mainstream media press, Bones is renewed. At the end of last night’s episode FOX clearly announced Bones would be returning with new episodes in the fall.

  53. Jack says:

Tom, leadins and leadouts affect shows by association.

  54. AZTop says:

First up, since no one else will mention it – Survivor continues to perform solidly for CBS. It’s actually been a pretty good season. CSI the departure of Grissom left a huge hole in the show. Fishburn just doesn’t cut it. L&O seems to be able to change cast members at will, but not CSI. I’ve stopped watching.

Bones is a bright spot for FOX. It belongs on Monday or Tuesday during the fall.

  55. Matthew says:

Can you post CW’s half hour breakdowns? Thanks!

  56. nkinsey says:

    BlueLick-

Your logic isn’t entirely logical. For one, you confuse quality of a show/ep with ratings. That’s not a gauge you can use. Ask 99% of viewers of tvbythenumbers. Many shows that win awards for their outstanding quality tend to get crap ratings (i.e. 30 Rock, Damages, etc).

Where have you heard FOX is adding So You Think to their fall? I worked for a FOX affiliate, and never once heard that. Pretty sure it’ll stay in the summer. They learned that lesson watching NBC try and put Last Comic Standing in the fall.

You say that FOX is “slowing turning into a force”? FOX is a little over 20 years old, and is the leader in about all the age demos, last year even winning HH. They’ve been THE force for years.

But I think your input on SouthLAnd is the weakest. The show was decreasing even before they moved Harper’s Island. It’s just been a gradual thing. Procedural competition or not, losing over 50% of your audience in a few eps is HORRIBLE. There’s a reason why they only ordered 13 more eps, and that they are thinking about putting it on Fridays.

    Just saying…

  57. Alex says:

At this point CBS has got to be in panic mode with CSI because those numbers are ugly, a 3.4 for the season finale? I suspect that Thursday nights on CBS are going to get a shake-up next year.

On another note I’m always amazed that Bones’ numbers aren’t strong – I always assume they’re bigger than they actually are.

  58. Edge says:

CSI: NY finale was amazing but very sad! I just disappointed with CBS moving NY finale thus early and on a thursday! Im a fan of NY and Im not surprised it came second in ratings against Greys. CBS didnt realize that Greys fan are solid every thursday and NY is just a newbie. I wish they just moved the NY finale another week at wednesday than they did.

  59. Josh says:

    Tom

So So, angry. There is no reason to watch the short season of Southland during it’s first airing. I can watch on Sat. I know it will be on . I can also watch it on HULU.com . I can also watch it on cable “On Demand”. with a show starting this late in the season and not becoming a huge hit out of the gate, there is no way for it to build significantly on it’s numbers. I am a fan of the show and I still chose to watch Grays finale. I am under no delusion that it is doing well. I do however think that it will do fine. Given time……………. (NBC has stated publicly that they are pushing viewers to Digital delivery systems. I would be curious to see the 7 day #’s).

    Somebody give Tom a hug.

  60. Maddy_s7 says:

SUPERNATURAL was one of the very best shows of the season.

Shame on you The CW for not promoting it and giving all your money to 90210 and Gossip Crap !

  61. Nick C says:

Retentionistas must think CSI should be canceled.

SUPERNATURAL was a weak episode (and an ending I saw coming a mile away or actually 3 or 4 episodes ago) and definitely set up the fact that next season is the last season.

BONES does just fine, and without SURVIVOR on it wins the night handily. BONES moves around a lot and now is in the 8pm slot battling Daylight Savings Time. All 8pm shows get hit this time of year.

  62. Patrick O says:

“Bones is a bright spot for FOX. It belongs on Monday or Tuesday during the fall.”

Why would they mess with success? It’s holding its own on a competitive night (although, to be fair the 8PM slot is less competitive than 9PM) and moving it would just mean trying out a new show in that slot.

  63. FringeFan says:

BREAKING NEWS: James Hibberd and Michael Ausiello are reporting that Fox is leaning towards renewing Dollhouse for a second season for the fall. According to Hibberd, Dollhouse is on the rough draft of the Fall Schedule. Would Robert or Bill please create a thread about this and have Nick C. comment?
    http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/05/dollhouse-second-season.html

  64. FringeFan says:

It’s just X Files all over again.

  65. Lourdes says:

I’m sad to see CSI declining this bad. It reached 21 million viewers at some point this season! And the season finale only attracts over 14? That’s terrible.

I didn’t like Bones’ numbers, I expected 10 million or more for the finale.

  66. Fredo says:

I agree with the Supernatural fans. One of the best shows on TV right now and my favorite season finale, along w Lost and Fringe. I am also a huge Reaper fan. Funny though, 6 years ago I didn’t even know the CW existed, now it hosts 2 fo the best tv shows around. Hopefully they will do right by Reaper as the earlier article is suggesting and the network keeps it rolling for at least a year or two.

  67. Bill Gorman says:

Fredo, “Funny though, 6 years ago I didn’t even know the CW existed”

    It didn’t!

  68. Fredo says:

I thought Enterprise started in ‘01 and that it was on the CW?

  69. nkinsey says:

UPN, Fredo. The CW merged The WB and UPN 3 years ago.

  70. 5506 says:

    I agree with BlueLick.

  71. TVBill says:

SOUTHLAND fell a tenth in the Nationals — now sees a 1.6 in demo, 4.649 million viewers. Compared to its premiere — 3.2, 9.864 — that’s a 50% drop in demo, and a 53% drop in total viewers. In just 5 weeks. If NBC isn’t suffering buyers remorse, then maybe their goal is 5th place?? ;-)

  72. Joshua K. says:

I love 30 Rock. Although not the funniest episode all season, it was a great one! So many cameos, and can I buy the Dealbreaker book?

  73. ruudisss says:

Well, one is clear – CSI can’t live without Gil Grissom!

  74. Renew Chuck! says:

With NBC getting bad numbers how could they not renew Chuck and Medium?

  75. ABCFanatic says:

Nice to see Survivor at 12million again FINALLY!!!!!!

I LOVED HOW CRAZY COACH WAS!

And wow at 17MILLLION FOR GREY’S ANATOMY AND CSI WITH 14 MILLON!!! just last year CSI had 21 million viewers and its finale is 14million what a suprise!

  76. Kevin says:

Glad Grey’s won. That was definitely the best season finale on TV this year.

  77. DC says:

If Southland doesn’t rebound and continues to sink I can see it now…. KNIGHT RIDER! The biggest hit of the season!

    How sad would that be?

  78. joe says:

betty scores well with women 18-34, so that’s more than likely why ABC is keeping it

in addition, it helps with the diversity on television (or obvious lack thereof)

  79. cdn says:

Southland’s numbers are shocking (1.6 key demo in the final numbers). I can’t believe this show is renewed while Chuck which got much better demos is in danger of cancellation.

  80. Junior says:

Why is SouthLAnd getting bad ratings? Its one of the best shows on television and it only got 4.6M viewers?!?! I think that people are taking NBC for granted and arent getting recommendations from others. If you like SouthLAnd, spread the word!

  81. kristi says:

Seriously, when are the networks going to understand how many people are DVRing and starting things later so they can forward through the Networks bread and butter advertising? I watched Grey’s last night, DVR’d the office and 30 rock and will watch all this week’s CSi’s On Demand this weekend. This is a broken system. I know that’s been discussed a million times on a site as informed as this one but they need to work it out so great shows like CHuck don’t have to suffer this nonsense and asshats like Leno don’t millons of dollars for a show that will never ever work out for NBC.
Oh and Ugly Betty is the most annoying show ever.

  82. gmyers says:

Because of its rapidly declining 18-49 numbers CSI’s budget must be slashed because the advertisers wont pay so much to advertise during that show on Thursday. So CSI must be moved to another night to remain on the air. The Office can continue on Thurs because its 18-49 ratings compared to its overall rating is very very impressive still. So Grey’s Anatomy and Office are GREAT for their networks on Thursday but CSI is horrible for a network on Thursday and must be moved.

  83. Mel says:

I was trying to comment earlier! I thought the Supernatural finale was great yesterday!!

  84. Riff Rafferty says:

    “NBC Southland 1.7 5 1.5 5 4.640″

Oh, dear. Where is that “KB” person now? I need someone to come and tell me what a super success this show is and how I’m stupid and wrong.

It would seem NBC was looking for their next “Third Watch.” Unfortunately for them, they got their next “Boomtown.” I would have been happy to offer Ann Biderman unsolicited suggestions for how to fix her show — which is in desperate need of extensive retooling — but what’s the point now? The audience is already off the beat.

  85. Josh f says:

I’m glad that grey’s went out on a high ( ratings wise) after a very tough year for them :-)

I’m hoping that desperate housewives does the same after a seasonal low last week :-)

And I would like to see all shows which have seen a decline in ratings go back up to their best like last year :-) I don’t get why every scripted show has had a decline anyway

    Go greys anatomy!
    Go desperate housewives!

  86. JohnsonWest says:

what about greys finale… i almost smashed my tv… briliant, the best episode since season 3…

  87. jay says:

I’ve decided to initiate my own personal perestroika with Grey’s and PP. ( Hindsight is X-ray vision.) Since the nets are renewing everything, neither fascist procedurals or brain-rotting schmaltz trivialing human tragedy can be a dominant voice anymore – nothing is. Ms. Cosmo, do not tear it down. mo bricks for all of our firewalls, mama’s gonna put all her sopa opera fears into you … smiley face.

  88. Tyler says:

Grey’s was amazing, best season finale so far! i just pry that the numbers go up for them and that season 6 is a blessing instead of a curse!

  89. Nick C says:

This is not correct!!! Greys’s anatomy – 29 mil. viewers!

  90. William Haney says:

Any thoughts on the Smallville ratings and finale from anyone? I am yet to see the episode (thank you tivo).

  91. JohnsonWest says:

    ill make an early prediction… over 20mil. for grey’s season premiere… :)

  92. Desilu says:

    “J. Norman says:”

Yes, the characters always allowed me to suspend disbelief as lab technicians ran around arresting people. However, the current scripts are awful.

  93. Desilu says:

    reference to CSI

  94. Desilu says:

“Earl” was horrible. Pull the plug.

  95. Missy says:

“SUPERNATURAL was a weak episode (and an ending I saw coming a mile away or actually 3 or 4 episodes ago) and definitely set up the fact that next season is the last season.”
I don’t think this episode was weak nor do I think next season has to be the last. YED was the big bad for two years, Lilith was the big bad for two years, and Lucifer’s story could continue for 2 years. Jared and Jensen both have contracts for two more years, so the show could continue to a sixth season.

  96. Pokerface says:

The Grey’s Anatomy finale had some of the most brilliant writing I’ve seen in TV history. Complete classic.

Yikes and Ouch @ Ugly Betty. Do you people have in the archives the number for their first season finale (back in 2007)? I am sure it was around the 12 million mark.

This show is going to return next season only to be cancelled after, let’s say, four or five weeks. I don’t see Ugly Betty living through Thanksgiving.
