Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Madness says:

come on 3.33 million is all prison break can get for a series finale now thats depressing it was awesome

  2. Cari says:

8.93 million viewers for Ghost Whisperer, my my my. It was the worst season in writing ever, highest we got was 11.67 million in February. Wonder if last nights ratings will wake up the crew to open season 5 with real jim and it was all a dream.

  3. Moose says:

Did Prison Break’s series finale do better than Dollhouse’s season finale? If it did, then perhaps Fox ought to renew it? :sarcasm:

At least Prison Break finished out its run with an end to the storyline.

I have a gut feeling that Dollhouse fans will be whimpering and whining before next season ends. I just can’t envision Dollhouse attracting enough of an audience without having a serious overhaul in the premise of the show. I don’t think that will make many current Dollhouse devotees too happy.

  4. Simon says:

    NBC aired DATELINE at 8pm.

  5. JP says:

From these numbers, looks like the 20th century is still alive and well in many people’s minds.
I am surprised that Prison Brake got the numbers it did. A big part of the finale had been leaked on line prior to the show’s airing and the reaction was far from positive, to say the least. The rest was so-so, although Ghost Whisper’s finale was, in my opinion, the weakest of them all.

  6. shelly says:

Because some things are more important than ratings (believe it or not), I wish Ms. Fawcett a speedy recovery. It’s hard to imagine another Charlie’s Angel being sick.

On to the actual ratings commentary, terrible numbers for the PB finale but I can’t say I’m surprised since the ending leaked out in advance and probably disgusted the original audiences too much to get them to tune in.

  7. Leo says:

    GH was really low.

@Moose : Prison Break’s Series finale numbers are terrible. Unlike Dollhouse, the show used to have 10 M viewers. I was expecting at least 4.5 million to tune just to see the end.

  8. Alex says:

Ghost Whisperer didn’t win the night, it wasn’t even second – when was the last time that happened?

  9. Nick C says:

PRISON BREAK IS RENEWED!!!! BELIVE ME! SEASON FIVE WILL HAVE 25 EPISODES!

  10. thedemonhog says:

There must have been zero promotion for Prison Break’s series finale. Surely, some people would have tuned in if they knew that the show was ending. I have not watched is since the season premiere and the only reason that I did not was because I would rather download it and watch it in superior quality without commercials.

I wonder why Ghost Whisperer was down. It would have made sense if it was against increased competition like Farrah’s Story, but it faced the usual opponents.

  11. Nick C says:

Fake Nick C, that’s really silly. You don’t have the avatar.

  12. Tara says:

    Hahaha @ fake!Nick C.

  13. Lanie Grace says:

    @Madness

3.33 for Series finale is on par for FOX fridays, TSCC reeled in a 3.0 for its Finale and DH was 2.89 I think.

  14. @Simon, thanks. Here, they aired NY Mets vs. SF Giants on NBC, so I wasn’t sure. Berman had it listed as 2 Howie Do It repeats, and it did seem to be high for that. I’ve changed 8pm to Dateline.

  15. Marissa says:

Anyone knows why there’s no news about TSSC ? Like rumors of cancellation or something. Are Fox still negociating ? I mean Thomas Dekker seems honnest yesterday when he said (on Youtube) that no decision have been made yet.

  16. @Lanie — Dollhouse was only 2.7 million for its finale in the final numbers.

  17. Nick C says:

Marissa, it’s dead at FOX anyway.

Robert, I like the new setup here, I hope it’s working better too.

  18. Marissa says:

Thanks Nick C. It’s just that after Dollhouse and Better of Ted renewals, my little heart started hoping again for a 3rd season of TSCC.

  19. thedemonhog says:

In addition to 10 million viewers, Prison Break used to have a 4 demo rating.

  20. GEORGE 11 says:

    NICK C

NOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT FOR DOLLHOUSE!!WHAT THE CHANCE OF BODY POLITIC ON CW???

  21. Tim Creecy says:

I’m actually glad to see something win other than GW. I truly don’t see the fascination with that show. I’m serious, can someone tell me what’s great about it? I don’t want to sound harsh but to me it appears that the eye candy of JLH is the main reason a lot of people watch it. Am I wrong?

  22. Moose says:

@ Leo — I have watched every episode of Prison Break. I wasn’t impressed with the finale. It seemed as though the writers threw everything that they could against the wall to see if it would stick. Then they picked up whatever had fallen on the floor and kept throwing it at the wall until it stuck. That was one cluster of a finale.

I don’t like reading spoilers. Unfortunately, I ended up reading a Prison Break spoiler yesterday unexpectedly. That doesn’t change my view of the finale. I would have hated it anyway.

  23. Lanie Grace says:

I second the Nick C comment, the new setup is great!

  24. Lisa says:

Marissa: do not lose any hope, the creator of tscc said the show is not dead, maybe he is finding out a way to keep the show alive. i suggest you to keep calling fox or do whatever to bring the show back. we dollhouse’s fans did, and won our battle, so you may do that.

  25. Chad says:

    Dollhouse 1.0/4 2.75
    Terminator 1.3/5 3.56

So Lanie, it wasn’t 3.0 million, you’re off by only 560,000. No more accurate than your source for the leaked finale.

  26. RJ says:

Good numbers for The Game. The CW should seriously consider keeping it.

  27. Master Moron says:

    Two questions about Prison Break:

1.How did Sara get pregnant? I’ve been anxiously awaiting a Sara and Michael sex scene and I never saw one, so what the hell happened?

2.How did Michael die? I thought the tumor in his brain was removed.

  28. Lanie, Nick C– I’m wondering if you’re seeing the same site I am! The new setup (other than the new hosting company) is almost exactly the same as the old setup with really only one exception. Where the new posts list is, there used to be a tab for new comments as well. Unfortunately the code for that tab was crashing our mySQL database, and so I completely removed it and just added the separate (and much more streamlined, code-wise) new comments widget that Wordpress provides by default.

Otherwise, everything should be identical to before. If that’s not what you’re seeing, please let me know. But if it is what you’re seeing, and you like it, great — hopefully Monday comes and the site doesn’t crash and I don’t have a big redesign project ahead of me :-)

  29. GiantBigHamburgers says:

That is all I expected for Prison Break. Many many fans gave up, many of the die-hards after the switch to Friday. As a long time fan, I wasn’t overly impressed with the finale. Some good moments but it just seemed a bit messed up. Where is Gretchen? Why bother it make it seem like T-Bag was turning into a respectable human being a few months ago only to switch back into what he was in the start of the series? Why was Michael’s Mother such a bitch? No explanations.

  30. jay says:

A celebrity biopic wins both the demo and overall. In I guess what is still officially sweeps? Would it shock anybody to death to see that long time staple of basic cable, the cheapo celebrity-friendly xyz Agency’s Wet Dream biopic, show up more and more in the years to come in various 18-49 wildernesses?

  31. Marissa says:

@Lisa : I’m so happy for Dollhouse and i can’t remember how many times i called/emailed Fox to beg them to bring TSCC/Dollhouse back. Among all the bubble shows, i think TSCC is the one who won most of the silly online polls (like Eonline). And i’m so proud of my fandom. I don’t think we’ll have a 3rd season but i will keep fighting with my humble tools (making icons, fanvid and fanfic, promote the show, calling FOX,…).

My husband is like “Why are you always fallin for bubble shows ?”. And it’s true because i loved Firefly, Veronica Mars,… and now same thing with Dollhouse, Supernatural, TSCC, Friday Night Lights,…I think networks should use me to see what show is doomed to have a small crazy fanbase.

  32. Mike says:

    @ Tim Creecy

Why do people who don’t like a show just deliberately put it down…so it doesn’t appeal to you that’s fine..everyone’s different but the ratings for GW have been steady and a solid Friday night winner for awhile now and to suggest that millions of people just watch it for the visual appeal OF JLH is insulting.. Yes she is beautiful but most people watch the show because they love the characters and the storylines..

So while you may not like it, making such a comment about the show is just stupid..if you don’t like it change the channel, that simple, but millions of people love the show and a huge percentage of that audience are female so there goes your eye candy theory…

    Hope I didn’t seem harsh

  33. shelly says:

@Master, I don’t know if you watched season 4 of Prison Break but the general assumption is ever since Michael and Sara got reunited at the start of it, they’ve been ‘together.’ They haven’t shown any specific sex scenes because it was Fox, not FX, but the general assumption is that they are having sex.

@Giantbighamburgers and anyone else wondering why Gretchen’s storyline didn’t come up, I’m assuming it’s because the PB people made a straight to dvd movie of what happens to the characters between the time that they’re exonerated to the 4-year flash forward in last night’s finale. It’s titled Prison Break: The Final Break and you can pre-order it from Amazon if you, unlike most fans, actually still care about the show. (Bitter? I hardly knew–well, okay, yeah).

  34. djm says:

I remember somebody saying that the pb finalie would be bigger than ER. so much for that LOL
And woot, boob whisperer got married. In the middle of a street. Catching the last 30 seconds before flashpoint was probably stupid but geeze, in the middle of a street?
Great season-ender for Flashpoint, here’s hoping it comes back next spring/summer.
And props to NBC for getting more than a .2 in the demo’s last night.

  35. mjt says:

they got married at the street where her and jim first met, if u were wondering djm

  36. TheBigCW says:

Still no news on NUMB3ERS renewal?

  37. T says:

I hope now that NBC had this once in a blue moon success on Friday Nights with a biography, I hope they wouldn’t jump into conclusion to make Fridays a biography night. Seriously?! leave that to the biography channel, and please don’t be stupid enough to make the same mistake you did with Southland. Look at where it’s demos are going.

  38. Julia says:

djm, didn’t Phoebe on Friends get married in the street?

  39. djm says:

gotacha, mjt, I never really watched the show so it seemed strange….
    @ julia, Can’t say I watch friends =p

  40. Jane says:

Nothing could have been more intense and interesting than “Farrah’s Story.” It will be shown again tomorrow at noon CDT on Oxygen Channel and 10p CDT Mon on Bravo.
I highly recommend it. It is sure to win some awards; it’s that good.

  41. Nick C says:

Robert, that is what I’m seeing. I think it’s a better change. It’s what we’re used to but easier to follow new comments. I also figured that tab might have been causing some issues. It’s a slight change for the better imho.

  42. GiantBigHamburgers says:

    @Shelly,

I did not know about the movie thing. That does explain why a few weeks ago someone said something on here about how the PB people had filmed a season finale and a series finale but were only airing the season finale. Not 100% accurate but that must be what the comment was about. If they want to sell this DVD thing they should have put a promo for it on during the show.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

  43. RJ says:

“Still no news on NUMB3ERS renewal?”

CBS has only renewed Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Survivor, and The Amazing Race thus far. I wouldn’t be worried too much.

  44. notty22 says:

The whiny Jameron fans that ruin the terminator name every passing day should take note that Prison Break had the same ratings as the pathetic John and Cameron in a motel episode. It was acknowledging this misfit segment of TSCC fans at all that sunk this show. Yeah John Connor is going to get his freak on with a metallic blow up doll that murdered his father and countless others.

  45. Lisa says:

Hated the last scene of PB. I never missed an episode even when the show was terrible, and that’s the ending I get? Awful.

I didn’t watch the Farrag Fawcett show because I was sure it would depress me. I saw clips of it, and those alone were tough to watch. I feel bad for her.

  46. joe says:

i really hope the game is renewed. last night’s episode was fantastic and it transitioned into an hour long dramedy quite seamlessly.

  47. Ana says:

PB was awful as usual.Season 4 was the worst season ever!

  48. Victor Hugo says:

Nick C. I have a question that killing me: V, Was pick up or not? 6 or 13 epi? Any word about Light Years (CW) and Romantically C. (ABC)? Thanks!

  49. Julia says:

Victor, Nick said that ABC offered a 6 episode pick up to Warners for V and Warners is now negotiating for 13.

  50. Chad says:

Sheesh notty, give it up already. Just create a new alias on the Fox Wiki and troll over there again.

  51. Tego Livi says:

Ghost Whisperer ratings being down is probably largely a result of warmer weather–ratings for the earlier shows almost always go down as we head into summer. You start seeing 8pm shows having lower ratings than 8:30pm shows that follow them, even if the leadoff show is an established hit and the following show is flotsam stuck in a “hammock” timeslot.

The ratings for that Farrah special shows once again that people love looking at a trainwreck, especially if plenty of schmaltz is ladeled over it so they can convince themselves they aren’t reveling in watching a trainwreck.

  52. Victor Hugo says:

Julia, thank you very much. Peace!

  53. ABCFanatic says:

Big Aww for the low ratings of the Prison Break’s series finale!

  54. Lourdes says:

The ratings for GW were very bad for a season finale. I wonder what will happen next season.

  55. xjeffie33x says:

    @ Tego Livi:
How can you even classify the Farrah special under trainwreck? She’s fighting cancer for god-sake, which is what the special was about if you had the decency to watch it. You calling her a trainwreck is never more wrong, just cause she’s an 80s Icon and happens to be in the headlines doesn’t mean it involves drugs. You should really either learn the definition of a trainwreck or actually watch the special before commenting.

Sorry if I sound harsh but Farrah needs support not comments calling her a trainwreck.

    @ Tim Creecy:
I watch GW for more than JLH, sure she’s the reason I knew of the show before it premiered but by far the reason I have stayed loyal. It’s a show that isn’t for everyone and I’m sure you know that but to say it’s success is due to the leads look is offending and demeaning of the show and the fans.

    @ Lourdes:
As for GW’s slip, all it’s season finales have always dipped from seasons average due to Summer Blockbuster Movies launching and Summer weather. Like someone said, it’s an 8pm show that airs on a Friday, CBS is more than happy with what GW has been raking in.

  56. Isabel says:

In addition when men, because only men do it, put down Ghost Whisperer saying the only reason people watch it is for JLH’s boobs, that’s pretty sexist in itself. And then they hypocritcally egg on about how great Dollhouse and Buffy is saying it’s empowering to women blah blah blah when they were just being sexist themselves objectifying Jennifer love hewitt as only a sex object, and when a woman is too sexy, men think she’s dumb without even talking to her or seeing beyond her looks, and that’s why comments like that are sexist. I don’t think people give Jennifer Love Hewitt a chance because she’s too sexy to be taken seriously. Also, men who are insecure with their sexuality or masculinity will put down Ghost Whisperer because the lead is female and is not being hypersexualized a la Dark Angel, so it’s threatening to see a woman as an equal without her being sexualized in a lead role. It just goes beyond the surface, we haven’t gone that far in this world as we thought.

  57. Petra says:

FOX should stick on fridays’ with reality shows or cartoons.
Instead of airing really bad drama shows.

  58. Riff Rafferty says:

Tim Creecy writes, “I’m actually glad to see something win other than GW. I truly don’t see the fascination with that show. I’m serious, can someone tell me what’s great about it? I don’t want to sound harsh but to me it appears that the eye candy of JLH is the main reason a lot of people watch it. Am I wrong?”

Are you talking about the male viewers? You’re not wrong. I, personally, “watch” it to ogle JLH.

Obviously, menopausal women watch for a different reason — as some of the replies to your post attest.

  59. JohnV says:

I tried to get interested in Ghost Whisperer because of JLH’s looks back when it first premiered but it was too corny for me, not to mention JLH isn’t looking as good anymore. Joan of Arcadia was a much better show.

  60. Dave says:

Once again we have a Friday night recap and there’s not a single comment about Numb3rs except for “will it get renewed”?

While the storyline wasn’t as good as previous weeks in resolving the previous week’s cliffhanger where Amita got kidnapped, it was still the most watched overall show on Friday night. And imho is still going strong after 102 episodes.

Between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs, CBS have Friday nights wrapped up. So because GW got renewed a few days ago, I can’t see any reason why CBS won’t be renewing Numb3rs for a sixth season this week.

In all honesty, given how CBS have renewed both Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory for two years, even though they’re second in scripted shows only to House and 24 on Monday nights, I don’t see why CBS couldn’t put some faith in GW and Numb3rs and renew them for the same two years, to lock up Friday nights for the foreseeable because haven’t they been either #1 or #2 on Fridays for ages?

  61. E.Jerry Paradiso says:

Jimmy will beat Conan in ratings by 20% by Augest

  62. Abdul says:

I’ve got about PB finale, so they assumed that since the serie begin it have’t passed a year?, ad another thing, didn’t michael get cured by the company’s doctor, how came he died beacuse of that?

  63. T says:

    @Abdul
we were led to a assume that the Company cured Michael, but we know that in PB that a deal first isn’t always the deal at the end. It safe to assume that pretty much if Linc was successful in retrieving Scylla they would kill Michael and Linc anyways. So the point of curing him totally was just ridiculous so I think they set it up that he was totally cured.
And in my own opinion I don’t believe someone can survive from a tumor or cancer. Sure you may have taken the cancer out but I strongly believe that it will eventually return. And will eventually kill you, that’s what I think happened to Michael.

  64. Jkel says:

Has anyone heard anything about The Game’s renewal chances?

  65. Eddie says:

Too bad for The Game. I was really hoping it would get at least 2.5 million for the finale. I wish you guys got the 18-34 demo ratings on Fridays. I actually think it did well there.

  66. Bad Robot ! says:

Prison Break ran out of gas after the end of Season 2 – its amazing it went on this long. Watched the last 30 minutes just to see what happened. What a waste of time.

Still amazed that Dullhouse is being renewed.

  67. R.G. says:

I watched The Farrah Story – very moving – hats off to NBC for actually running this as Farrah wanted and not have their National Newscasters trample all over it. with News Commentary..I would watch it again if they re-air it!

  68. Tim Creecy says:

    @ Mike

Hey Mike. I didn’t intend to put the show GW down. I just asked the question why do people like it so much? I want an answer from those who watch the show. I’ve seen it a few times and it doesn’t appeal to me so I don’t watch it but the numbers are consistently around 8-9 million with some higher here and there.

I do think the show has a huge audience because of JLH and if that’s the case, fine. No harm but I just want to hear why people like it.

  69. Tim Creecy says:

Well, thank you for everyone who answered my question. It’s just as I thought. Anyone who watches the show either watches it for JLH or started watching it because of JLH. The other people who bashed me still didn’t answer why they watch the show, all they did was bash me for my “sexiest comments.”

To answer Isabel, I watched Buffy at first because I had an absolute crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar. I was in love with that girl so bad it was stupid. However, that was only part of the show and honestly, the show became much more to me than SMG. It was a great ride for 5 years IMO. I hated season 6 and season 7 but that’s me. I can relate to people who started watching GW for JLH but perhaps fell in love with the show(for whatever reason.) That’s fine but I just wanted an answer.

As for Dollhouse, I have always liked looking at ED but honestly I still don’t like her in the Dollhouse role. I think they would’ve been better off getting a better actress. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve seen her in so many Joss Whedon shows now that it’s silly. She’s not a terrible actress but I just think the show would’ve been better with someone else as the lead. Just my opinion. I’m glad Dollhouse got renewed but at best, it’s just a show I DVR and then watch a week or two later.

Now Isabel, please do me a favor and let me know some of your favorite shows and why you watch them.
