“The Mentalist” Moves to Thursday at 10:00 PM Pairing TV’s #1 New Show With TV’s #1 Drama (“CSI”)

CBS, the only major broadcast network to grow its audience in all key ratings measures this season, announced today the addition of four new series to strengthen its already top rated primetime lineup for the Fall 2009-2010 season.

The new series include three dramas and one comedy.  Chris O’Donnell and LL COOL J star in NCIS: LOS ANGELES, a spinoff from the hit drama NCIS; THE GOOD WIFE stars Emmy® Award winner Julianna Margulies in a legal drama about a steadfast wife and mother who boldly returns to work as a lawyer when her husband is imprisoned for a high profile political scandal; THREE RIVERS, a medical drama  that stars Alex O’Loughlin as the head of  a  renowned transplant surgery team, and  ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE stars Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman in an ensemble comedy about a successful, single journalist who accidentally gets pregnant by a much younger man.

The freshmen series will join 18 returning series on the current CBS schedule.

CBS will return the season’s #1 drama/scripted program – CSI; #1 comedy – TWO AND A HALF MEN; #1 new series – THE MENTALIST and the #1 news magazine – 60 MINUTES, along with two franchise reality series – SURVIVOR and the six-time Emmy Award winner THE AMAZING RACE.

The other returning series include: THE BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, CSI: MIAMI, NCIS,  THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE; GARY UNMARRIED, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: NY,  GHOST WHISPERER,  NUMB3RS, 48 HOURS MYSTERY and COLD CASE.

Ordered for midseason is a new fast-paced medical drama, MIAMI TRAUMA, from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer; the new police drama THE BRIDGE; the returning comedy RULES OF ENGAGEMENT; and the new alternative series ARRANGED MARRIAGE and UNDERCOVER BOSS.

On the strength of its scripted series, and the success of its two reality franchises, CBS will win the 2008-2009 television season in viewers, its sixth victory in the past seven years, and in adults 25-54 (projected tie with Fox). CBS is the ONLY network to post ratings gains over the last season in all key measures: +12% in viewers, + 3% in adults 18-49, and +8% in adults 25-54.

This top-rated schedule will serve as the springboard to introduce four new series – all of which have established franchises as a lead-in.

The 2009-2010 schedule:

On Mondays at 8:00 PM, the critically acclaimed ensemble comedy HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER opens the night and serves as a strong lead-in for the new comedy ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE at 8:30 PM. From 9:00-10:00 PM, television’s top comedy TWO AND A HALF MEN and the genius comedy THE BIG BANG THEORY form a power comedy hour. CSI: MIAMI, a perennial time period winner, completes the night at 10:00 PM.

On Tuesdays, NCIS kicks off the night at 8:00 PM, providing a seamless lead-in for its spin off NCIS: LOS ANGELES at 9:00 PM, followed by new legal drama THE GOOD WIFE at 10:00 PM.

Wednesday returns intact with the comedy block THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE and GARY UNMARRIED from 8:00-9:00 PM, as well as the crime drama tandem of CRIMINAL MINDS and CSI: NY from 9:00-11:00 PM.

On Thursdays at 8:00 PM, SURVIVOR returns to the time period it has won every year since 2004.   And from 9:00-11:00 PM, CBS is pairing television’s #1 drama, CSI, with television’s  #1 new series, THE MENTALIST.

On Friday, CBS plans to add the popular drama series MEDIUM at 9:00 PM, starring Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette, to its top-rated Friday night lineup, forming a hauntingly compatible two-hour block with GHOST WHISPERER at 8:00 PM.  NUMB3RS caps the night at 10:00 PM.

The Saturday night lineup remains intact, anchored by the night’s highest-rated show, 48 HOURS MYSTERY.

As always, 60 MINUTES kicks off Sundays at 7:00 PM, followed by the six-time Emmy Award winning reality series THE AMAZING RACE at 8:00 PM, which leads into the new medical drama THREE RIVERS at 9:00 PM. The crime drama COLD CASE anchors at 10:00 PM.

The new DRAMAS:

NCIS: LOS ANGELES is a drama about the high stakes world of undercover surveillance at the Office of Special Projects (OSP), a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals that pose a threat to the nation’s security.  By assuming false identities and utilizing the most advanced technology, this team of highly trained agents goes deep undercover, putting their lives on the line in the field to bring down their targets.  Special Agent “G” Callen (Chris O’Donnell) is a chameleon who transforms himself into whomever he needs to be to infiltrate the criminal underworld.  His partner is Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL COOL J), a former U.S. Navy SEAL who has seen action in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and a surveillance expert who uses state of the art monitoring equipment to look out for those in the field and feed them crucial information.  Both Callen and Hanna report to Special Agent Lara Macy (Louise Lombard), the OSP team leader responsible for directing the operations and making life-or-death decisions.  Assisting the team is Special Agent Kensi Lo (Daniela Ruah), the exceptionally bright daughter of a slain Marine who lives for the adrenalin rush that comes with undercover work, and Operational Psychologist Nate Getz (Peter Cambor), adept at getting into anybody’s head, profiling the target and monitoring agents’ states of mind before, during and after missions.  Armed with the latest in high tech gear and sent regularly into life-threatening situations, this tight-knit team relies on each other to do what is necessary to protect national interests.  Shane Brennan (“NCIS”) is the executive producer for CBS Television Studios.

THE GOOD WIFE  is a drama starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who must assume full responsibility for her family and re-enter the workforce after her husband’s very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail.  Pushing aside the betrayal and crushing public humiliation caused by her husband Peter (Chris Noth), Alicia Florrick (Margulies) starts over by pursuing her original career as a defense attorney.  As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner (Josh Charles), who is interested to see how Alicia will perform after 13 years out of the courtroom. Alicia is grateful the firm’s top litigator, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), offers to mentor her but discovers the offer has conditions and realizes she’s going to need to succeed on her own merit.  Alicia’s main competition among the firm’s 20-something new recruits is Cary (Matt Czuchry), a recent Harvard grad who is affable on the surface, but will use any means to ensure that he, not Alicia, secures the one full-time associate position that’s available.  Fortunately, Alicia finds an ally in Kalinda (Archie Panjabi), the firm’s tough in-house investigator.  Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician’s scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach (Graham Phillips) and 13-year-old Grace (Makenzie Vega).  For the first time in years, Alicia trades in her identity as the “good wife” and takes charge of her own destiny.  Tony Scott, Ridley Scott, Robert King, Michelle King, Dee Johnson and David Zucker are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

THREE RIVERS is a medical drama that goes inside the emotionally complex lives of organ donors, the recipients and the surgeons at the preeminent transplant hospital in the country where every moment counts.  However, dealing with donor families in their darkest hour and managing the fears and concerns of apprehensive recipients takes much more than just a sharp scalpel.  Leading the elite team is Dr. Andy Yablonski (Alex O’Loughlin), the highly-skilled workaholic lead organ transplant surgeon, whose good-natured personality and sarcastic wit makes him popular with his patients and colleagues. His colleagues include Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), a surgical fellow with a rebellious streak and fiery temper who strives to live up to her deceased father’s excellent surgical reputation; Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), a womanizing surgical resident who’s broken as many hearts as he’s replaced; Ryan Abbott (Christopher J. Hanke), the inexperienced new transplant coordinator who arranges the intricately choreographed process of quickly and carefully transporting organs from donor to patient; Dr. Sophia Jordan (Julia Ormond), the head of surgery and a dedicated medical professional; and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s no-nonsense operating assistant and best friend.  In this high stakes arena, in which every case is a race against the clock, these tenacious surgeons and medical professionals are the last hope for their patients.  Carol Barbee, Curtis Hanson and Carol Fenelon are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

The new COMEDY:

ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is a comedy starring Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, a single woman who finds herself “accidentally” pregnant after a one-night stand with a much younger guy, and decides to keep the baby… and the guy.  A newspaper film critic, Billie is barely surviving a humiliating breakup with her charming boss, James (Grant Show), who’s still trying to resume their relationship.  Suddenly expecting a child with her “boy toy,” Zack (Jon Foster), Billie and Zack make an arrangement: to live together platonically. Billie’s party girl best friend Olivia (Ashley Jensen), and Abby (Lennon Parham), her conventional, younger married sister, eagerly look forward to the new addition and offer their own brands of advice and encouragement.  But when Zack and his freeloading friends, including Davis (Nicolas Wright), start to turn her place into a frat house, Billie isn’t sure if she’s living with a boyfriend, a roommate, or if she just has another child to raise.  Lloyd Braun, Gail Berman, Gene Stein and Claudia Lonow are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.  Pamela Fryman directed the pilot.

The new MIDSEASON DRAMAS:

THE BRIDGE is a drama about a tough and dedicated police officer who is voted to become the police union’s dynamic leader.  To serve the public as well as his 8,000 fellow officers, charismatic Frank Leo (Aaron Douglas) battles criminals on the street, corruption in the ranks and his own bosses.  On the force is his able partner and confidante Tommy Dunn (Paul Popowich), who rides with Frank across the bridge that spans the divide between the rich and the poor in the area they patrol; Staff Sergeant Bernie Kantor (Frank Cassini), a voice of reason and moral sounding board; Jill (Inga Cadranel), a detective with a lot of attitude who is moving up the ranks; Billy (Theresa Joy), a young female cop who is determined to prove herself to the guys; and Ed Wycoff (Michael Murphy), the shrewd Chief of Police.  Abby St. James (Ona Grauer) is a sharp prosecutor who begins working with the police union, and shares a mutual attraction with Frank.  In his new position, Frank Leo takes on the politically-motivated department brass… and makes many powerful enemies in the process.  Craig Bromell, Adam J. Shully, Laszlo Barna, Alan Di Fiore and Robert Wertheimer are executive producers for E1 Entertainment, 990 Multi Media Entertainment Company and Jonsworth Productions in association with CTV and CBS Television Studios.

MIAMI TRAUMA is about a team of expert surgeons who work at one of the premiere trauma facilities in the country, where only patients with life threatening injuries are treated.  Dr. Matthew Proctor (Jeremy Northam) is new to the trauma team, after a tour of duty in a MASH unit during the Gulf war.  Dr. Eva Zambrano (Lana Parrilla) is a workaholic surgeon who is more comfortable in her scrubs than she is out in the real world.  Dr. Christopher Deleo, “Dr. C.,” is a playboy who thrives on the high-stakes of trauma medicine and is, by his own description, a genius redneck.  Dr. Serena Warren (Elisabeth Harnois) is fresh out of medical school, and head nurse Tuck Brody (Omar Gooding) keeps the doctors on track and the patients’ families updated in this chaotic corner of the medical profession.  Together, this team of doctors excels in the “golden hour,” the 60 minutes after being critically injured, when a patient’s life hangs in the balance.  Jerry Bruckheimer, Jeffrey Lieber and Jonathan Littman are executive producers for Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television Distribution.

The new MIDSEASON ALTERNATIVE series:

ARRANGED MARRIAGE is a series that brings the tradition of arranged marriages, which is still practiced successfully by many cultures throughout the world, to the U.S., where it is virtually an inconceivable option for most single Americans.  Three adults who are anxious to get married, but who have been unsuccessful in their own search for a mate, choose a life-altering path.  They rely on their closest family and friends, those who love and know them best, to choose someone for them to marry based on shared goals, values, experiences and the commitment to make it work.  The series intimately documents these three arranged marriages, starting with the first meetings of the families and the wedding day; and then follows the couple through the day-to-day joys, challenges, and emotional tumult that results from their arranged union.  Emmy Award nominees Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth are executive producers for Magical Elves Inc.

UNDERCOVER BOSS is a new reality series that follows high level corporate executives as they slip anonymously into the lowest level jobs within their companies.  Once undercover, they’ll get their hands dirty with the rank and file, find out what their employees REALLY think of them and discover how smoothly their companies are REALLY run.  In the process, these senior executives learn about themselves, the perception of their company and the spirit of their work force.  Stephen Lambert is the executive producer for Studio Lambert, Ltd.

212 Responses to “CBS Announces 2009-2010 Schedule”

1. Jared says:

not really any big surprises here, except perhaps the reordering of the Monday comedies.

2. mwa says:

Medium 9 on Fridays! YES!!!

3. nemo says:

medium medium medium!
so glad cbs pick the show up!

4. Patrick O says:

Color me a little surprised at CBS moving BBT away from HIMYM.

5. Ali says:

Cold case against Desperate housewives ? boy that’s tough!

Where is Rules of engagement ??? midseason premiere ?????

6. Ali, yes:

CBS Midseason: dramas Miami Trauma and The Bridge , comedy Rules of Engagement. Reality series: Undercover Boss and Arranged Marriage.

7. Jared says:

Ali, Cold Case is going to be at 10. Desperate Housewives is on at 9, right?

8. Ali says:

Sweet, Thanks Robert. YIPPYYY!!! all my favourite shows are back for next year now wohoooooo!

9. AD says:

Happy for medium fans; BBT is a must see, Gay unmarried is a funny show, i must decide if i like or not the mentalist; the rest doesnt matter HIMO

10. DurandalsFate says:

Yes! Taking Big Bang Theory out of direct competition with Chuck! Great news, if they stick with that schedule.

11. Jon says:

The Mentalist moving to Thursday is a step closer to it moving to CSI’s slot but that depends on how CSI perform because CBS isn’t going to cancel CSI IMO.

Three Rivers has a tough slot against DH, I wonder if they’ll simply slot Miami Trauma sooner than expected.

12. Ali says:

@ Jared

YUP, sorry. my mistake. that’s much better I guess. it’ll still be going against Brothers and sisters though.

13. Pierre says:

Glad to see Medium in there.
Guessing House Rules, Miami Trauma, U.S. Attorney and Rules of Engagement should be midseason replacements.
I’m kinda disappointed in the name of the new NCIS…. not that it really matters but still…

14. Susan says:

so no more Flashpoint?
But yay and big relief about Medium!
and Ali: Desperate housewives was scheduled against Cold Case this season as well.

15. dustin says:

Moved the Big Bang Theory. Interesting.

16. Flashpoint will be a summer show or maybe midseason or next summer.

17. dustin says:

Medium is a good show, probably better then another hour of Leno. . . However, Fridays are not a good schedule even if it is paired with the Friday night champ GW.

18. marco says:

PIERRE, why are you guessing when the midseason shows were announced???

19. dustin says:

Wednesday looks like a good day for another network to make a move. I think Wednesdays are CBS weakest schedule.

20. mwa says:

I think Medium will do well FRidays, as it also has an older demo like GW
Let us all hope this turns into another ‘JAG’ situation.

=)

21. Pierre says:

@marco: Eh… whoops :) Either I missed it, or Rob added it later…
Still, I wasn’t that far off in my guessing….

22. Holly says:

The moves for Big Bang and Mentalist are interesting and show that CBS is thinking that these two shows could be their replacements for Men and CSI.

I really hope they find a better name for the NCIS spin-off.

I think Sundays are going to be pretty much even to this years. As much as I agree with Moonves that CBS needs a medical show, I just can’t see Three Rivers working (of course, that’s based on quick descriptions, so maybe it’s better than it sounds).

23. Amanda says:

MEDIUM YES!!!

24. steve says:

Jon I agree i think moving the mentalist to thursdays is a sign from CBS that evetually itll take the 9pm slot. I wouldnt be surprised if nexted year the mentalist takes the 9pm slot and they move SI to 10pm

25. Peter says:

So the NCIS spin-off will be named NCIS: Los Angeles… I was just waiting for them to use that city for a show!

26. louie says:

Fridays is gonna rock

But seriously affect FOX’s fridays. Unless Dollhouse beats Medium. Unlikely.

Ghost whisperer is gonna end Human Target because it ended Sarah Connor

27. Dario says:

OH YES! MEDIUM!!!!! THANK YOU CBS!

28. Jon says:

Holly, I think if Three Rivers flops and it may even with the presense of Alex O’Loughlin, they’ll simply slot Miami Trauma in that slot which IMO sounds more compatible with the other CBS shows.

29. dustin says:

While I am 90% confident this comment will get moderated. . . I am anxious to see what Chuck will be up against. Yes, Chuck. . .

30. Holly says:

Jon, I’m not sure I’d consider O’Loughlin a major plus for the show. Despite his very vocal internet posting fangirls, I don’t think he has much of a following and I don’t think he’s an exceptional actor.

31. johnthemon says:

I think Medium will do well on Fridays, probably better than Flashpoint did, of course it will be in direct competition with Law and Order on NBC…we’ll see how it plays out.

32. Debbie says:

Medium! Yay!

Maybe now I’ll start watching the whole CBS Friday lineup. Ever since CBS axed Moonlight, I’ve stopped watching anything on Fridays.

Thank you CBS. Medium has a loyal audience and will probably gain more fans, since there will actually be some promotion. NBC never made much noise about when Medium episodes would start airing, and I hardly ever saw any mention during commercial breaks.

33. marco says:

Robert, any idea what happened to HOUSE RULES? I heard it was staffing.

34. johnthemon says:

Oh, I meant Southland…Law and Order is at 8:00.

Medium will do will no doubt.

35. Chris says:

CBS has to be telling advertisers: “We can guarantee you one thing.. every single night at 10EST, we will beat the bejesus out of NBC, and you can guarantee your clients that…”

I’m waiting for Jay to pull a sub-1 share night after night after night, and NBC realize that despite that, they have no viable backup plan that doesn’t cost them an arm and a leg.

36. clutz says:

Wow, CBS must REALLY think the Leno factor gives them free reign Tuesday at 10 p.m. I’m shocked that a brand-new show is given the Tuesday at 10 slot. I predict 13 eps and out for “The Good Wife;” slightly improved over the recent freshman shows in that slot (Cane, Smith, 3 Lbs, etc). But will The Good Wife be good enough to last?

37. marco says:

Robert, any idea what happened to HOUSE RULES?

I heard it was staffing.

38. Marco, I don’t really keep up on development, and just pay attention to the announced renewals, cancellations and pickups.

39. Mir says:

Little question – Where is “Back” with Skeet Ulrich!?

40. clutz says:

Oh, and I might check out Three Rivers, as a western PA native who has always thought Pittsburgh’s medical resources, cutting-edge research, and expansive community are pretty amazing.

41. johnthemon says:

Is it just me or is a title like “The Good Wife” a set up for a really sexist show, a la “The Ex list”?

42. Jon says:

Holly, I agree about O’Loughlin but CBS and the vocal minority like him, I just think that Miami Trauma has more potential than Three Rivers.

The Good Wife has a great cast but legal dramas tend to be hit and miss, NCIS:LA will benefit from being in front of NCIS but I think it should have aired on another night.

43. Full press release now added to the post.

44. SW says:

After all the excitement regarding NBC (493 posts!) and to a lesser extent Fox (225) the CBS lineup is almost anti-climatic upon its release LOL

That’s a good thing, though. Stability is good and CBS is stable for the most part with its slate of shows.

Congrats Medium for being part of the “Freaky Friday” lineup. Good luck in the new home!

45. Debbie says:

I am so disgusted that CBS did not pick up Back for at least mid season next year. I won’t be watching any of the new shows that they added. There are getting to be fewer and fewer shows of theirs that I watch. Although I am glad they didn’t let Medium go away I will be watching that. I’m down to about 3 shows on their network that I watch now. Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, and Medium now that they added it.

CBS you need to get a clue people are tired of the same old thing all of the time. Back was an inspiration something brand new and different you should have given it a chance!!!

46. Jon says:

CBS tried and tested formula is the reason why they are the number one network in viewers, the fact it achieved that without a major tentpole show like Idol or DWTS.

47. Holly says:

Debbie, Maybe the pilot for Back sucked. A good concept (or even a good cast) does not guarantee good execution.

48. Tony says:

Yawn. Procedural, procedural, procedural, Survivor, procedural, procedural,Amazing Race, procedural.

I’ll pass and so will most people that are under 40.

49. chuckfan says:

I never watched Medium, but I’m happy for the fans that it got life on another network.

50. Nick C says:

I think CBS would have been better off calling the NCIS spin off “The NCIS Spin Off,” rather than “NCIS: LOS ANGELES,” which just rolls off the tongue poorly.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was moved up to be a lead in for the new comedy. This is not a bad idea at all. That was a smart move for CBS.

51. Nick C says:

Jon, what do you call SURVIVOR? I mean I know it’s not what it once was, but it’s still good in ratings.

52. bill says:

Hmmm…..no Flashpoint and The Unit canceled. I guess tactical shows are persona non grata on this network. Shame… lost a big chunk of fans in this demo.

53. steve says:

I think NCIS:LA airing after NCIS is a bad move it should of been on a different night like they have done with CSI’S

54. Andrea says:

CBS just became a lot less interesting with EH off the sked. I think that was a mistake.

Robert & Bill, interesting that your thoughts on the success of fan campaigns post-Jericho, the power of DVR, downloading, streaming, and the probability of canceled shows being picked up (or even considered) by other networks have been proven false.

Not that there was good logic behind your assumptions. Just turns out not to be the case for next season.

55. Holly says:

Bill, Reports are that Flashpoint will be back in the summer or next season.

56. Jon says:

Nick C, Survivor is still a solid hit but it’s not exactly a tentpole like Idol or DWTS. CBS don’t depend on it like FOX and ABC with their ratings since they have lots of solid shows which are around 10m or higher with the exception of the 8pm comedies, The Fridays shows and at times 60 Minutes.

57. marco says:

@Nick C, what gives with HOUSE RULES? Now no politics on TV this year? What’s this mean for Body Politic?

58. Pix says:

NCIS:LA, seriously? Next year I expect a new spin off comedy show HIMYM:SF :D

59. Bad Robot ! says:

Will Alex O’Loughlin be sucking the blood out of patients in a very special Halloween episode? Old habits die hard. LOL!

60. Susan says:

oh man, I hope we’re not going to be inundated with O’Laughlin crazy fangirls – not now, and not when it gets yanked off the sked after 5 weeks or so.
I agree with holly – nothing exceptional about Alex O’Laughlin. Just another dude with a nice toothpaste commercial smile. There are a millions like him out there.
Friday is shaping up to be a fun night, with Law and Order, Dollhouse and Medium!

61. lanouette says:

Champagne!!!! Three Rivers is picked up!!! I will see Alex O’Loughlin on my screen in a regular schedule!!! I am soooo happy!!!

62. Jason says:

Accidently on Purpose is the only one I’ll be checking out on CBS since its where my other 3 favorite comedy shows are on Mondays :)

63. Jon says:

Susan, I think you spoke too soon. ;-)

64. JWB says:

The Good Wife and ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE won’t make it. MIAMI TRAUMA? Won’t people get it confused with Trauma on NBC?

CBS cancels Without a trace and gains Medium? WAT pulls in better ratings than Medium. Why didn’t they order WAT as a mid season replacement?

65. Holly says:

JWB, There’s always hope that Miami Trauma (or Trauma) will get a name change, but they won’t be on the air at the same time anyway (Trauma is scheduled only for fall, Miami Trauma only for spring).

The choice of Medium over WAT is about the money. Yes, WAT was getting a little higher ratings, but part of that can be attributed to the respective networks. Also, CBS-Paramount owns Medium, so they get all the money from the syndication deal with Lifetime, not so with WAT.

66. Susan says:

I noticed that too, Jon.
Since we’re dealing with herd mentality here, brace yourself for a 500 thread of “yay, Alex is back on TV, I can watch CBS again”. Last year, when I “dared” criticize Moonlight on this very website, the kooks collectively decided that I must be working for CBS. I wander who they’ll determine I am now, I wonder.

67. DenverDean says:

After two upfronts, it finally happened: Medium on CBS!! So awesome.Yeah, I’m a PA fanguy.

68. Lisa says:

JWB, it doesn’t all come down to ratings. Without a Trace had a high budget and apparently CBS wanted to get it for cheaper but didn’t. Medium probably costs less to produce, plus CBS owns it and profits from episodes sold into syndication and DVD sales. Not owning Trace, they got none of those benefits from it. I’m sure they’ll make more money off of Medium than they did with Trace.

69. Kevin says:

I love Medium so am glad CBS has picked it up.

I am a little worried how NBC is going to handle the remaining episodes they have this season? Do they try to kill off the franchise since it is moving networks or milk it for everything they can?

70. Robert says:

Happy that BBT will get the two and a half men lead in. Also happy that Ill be able to catch House now.

71. CP says:

What am I supposed to watch on Mondays at 8:30 now? I assume ROE will come back at the 8:30 spot once this Jenna Elfman show bombs. I’ve got the over-under on the show 5 episodes? Anybody want to place any bets?

72. anima52 says:

Yay Medium! As I don’t live in the USA, I have to watch American shows ‘creatively’ on-line. So even though Dollhouse and Medium will be on at the same time, I’ll be able to catch them on a streaming video or torrent site. I do always watch these shows when they are broadcast (ages later) in the country where I live, though.

73. JWB says:

WAT had a high budget but they could have ordered 13 episodes instead of 22. Moving WAT from Thursdays after CSI to Tuesdays hurt the show. At one time WAT was pulling in 18 million viewers.

74. MC says:

Tony:

“Yawn. Procedural, procedural, procedural, Survivor, procedural, procedural,Amazing Race, procedural.

I’ll pass and so will most people that are under 40.”

I couldn’t agree with you more. Other than HIMYM and BBT this is completely uninteresting.

75. Mega64 says:

Damn CBS for splitting up HIMYM and TBBT. I definitely understand why they did it since TBBT should become huge with TAAHM as a lead-in and HIMYM being a good lead-in for its new comedy, and hell, I think it’s a smart move, but it’s gonna screw up my schedule.

76. Craig says:

Accidently on Purpose seems to be dead on arrival. I could be wrong, but the description does not even sound like a fun show to watch, especially with the type of shows that are on Mondays. I am hopeful for a quick death so they can move Rules of Engagement into it’s spot on the Monday block of comedies.

The Good Wife will end of being another Cane. Pairing it with 2 NCIS shows seems to be a mis-match. I am looking forward to NCIS: Los Angeles. 2 hours of NCIS fun!

Picking up Medium (which has an established fan base) will work well with the Friday night lineup. CBS will have the strongest Friday schedule of all the networks.

The Mentalist move to Thursday should work well for that show. I agree with some of the posts on here about CBS looking for a possible replacement for CSI on Thursday nights. It should work well for them.

Actually, most of the 10pm shows should see an up-tick in ratings (the established shows anyways) with NBC giving up on that hour of programming.

You might see Flashpoint down the road. It is a Canadian produced/aired show and is very cheap for CBS to add to their schedule at any time.

77. Pas says:

About the monday switches: Maybe I’m wrong but didn’t they try at some point BBT at 9/9:30 (can’t remember) and HIMYM at 8? BBT did great but HIMYM got lower ratings if I remember correctly.
No real opinion on “Accidentaly on purpose”… but I love HIMYM. I don’t wish it to lose audience but depending on how it does as a lead-in, that could be not-horrible news for NBC’s Chuck/Heroes. Any opinion on that?

78. Holly says:

Pas, I think they’ve only done a couple one-episode special airings of BBT after Men. As far as regular scheduling goes, it started off in the 8:30 spot before moving to 8.

79. Jeff G says:

No big surprises for me on this schedule. I am gad they picked up Medium. I will miss Without A Trace, but, it had gotten a bit stale. I really think 11th Hour got a raw deal. I liked the show and thought it had possibilities to grow more.

80. Terrence says:

1) Bad move cancelling “Without a Trace”. It was a solid performer for seven seasons despite three time slot shifts when it should have stayed on after “CSI”.

2) Smart move picking up “Medium”. It is a great companion piece to “Ghost Whisperer”.

3) I’d put “Gary Unmarried” after “Two and a Half Men” and air “Accidentally on Purpose (I don’t like that title) after “The New Adventures of Old Christine” on Wednesday nights.

4) They should have kept “The Big Bang Theory” at 8pm since it works so well with “How I Met Your Mother”?

5) They should have kept “The Mentalist” on Tuesday and shift it to 10pm to make room for “NCIS: Los Angeles”. It doesn’t need the lead-in help from “CSI”. “Three Rivers” would benefit greatly and the “Good Wife” could do well after “Cold Case”.

Despite all this, CBS is the strongest network with the strongest schedule. I shook my head the fewest times and nodded my head the most times with this.

81. Dawn says:

MEDIUM on FRIDAYS!!! YESSSS!!

THANK YOU, CBS!!!

And SCREW YOU, NBC!! You’ve treated the show like crap for years and it’s about time it a got a decent home where it will proper treatment!!

I now officially LOVE CBS!! I have no more reason to watch NBC, AT ALL!!!

82. Grace W. says:

Did CBS do a similar pairing [to the NCIS and NCIS:Los Angeles pairing] with CSI and CSI:Miami during Miami’s first season?

And CBS – “NCIS: Los Angeles”? Really? You couldn’t come up with a better name? Here I was thinking it would be called NCIS:OSP, but I guess they figured that was too many letters :-)

83. Alex says:

Pas I remember that they tried How I Met Your Mother at 8 recently and it didn’t do well but the feeling was that they didn’t promote it well and it was stuck in the middle of repeats on the rest of the CBS schedule. I think with promotion it should work out fine.

As far as this schedule goes it all makes sense. NCIS leading into the spin-off works (and people thought I was mad for suggesting that!) and The Mentalist at 10 on Thursdays should be interesting, I think CBS is going to find themselves in a position where The Mentalist is doing much better at 10 than CSI is at 9 next season.

And Friday’s have gotten very crowded for next year. Although that’s a good thing, if all the networks are trying to make Friday work at the same time then there’s a much better chance that it will and people’s viewing habits will change.

84. Swarley says:

TBBT will be a hit simply because its after Two and a Half Men. Look at the different Rules of Engagements ratings are when it is on at 9:30 and at 8.

HIMYM at 8..hopefully it will do good. It is THE best comedy on television and deserves the ratings that Two and a Half Men get.

85. dustin says:

I think Big Bang Theory and Chuck took from one anther’s audiences. The change on Monday is good for both shows, but probably not good for Ted, because nobody cares how he met their mother.

86. Pas says:

I know the previous BBT/HIMYM moves were exceptional, but wasn’t that exactly to test out for next season? Unless they didn’t warn before airing exeptionnally HIMYM at 8 the few times they did, the drop wasn’t good news. On the other hand BBT at 9:30 did well when it was tried, and that’s really bad news for Trauma.

87. MadAsHell&TakingItForever! says:

Really happy for Medium fans. I hope its ratings come up really good, just to spite NBC after being so stupid with….everything.

Nice to see Grey’s and now CSI too up against FRINGE Thursday at 9. Now that is sweet! Hope they wipe the floor with it.

88. Nick C says:

Jon, but CBS most certainly did rely on SURVIVOR while they built the network up to what it is today. CSI, etc. all benefited from SURVIVOR.

89. Holly says:

Swarley, BBT is already a hit, getting the post-Men slot will certainly increase the ratings, but it definitely isn’t struggling as an 8:00 show.

HIMYM did fine last year when it was at 8:00 for most of the season. It will probably loose a little from being at the lower HUT time, but it will probably get around what BBT was getting this year.

90. brian says:

How very….

boring.

91. David R says:

Thanks CBS for picking up Medium. Thats a good choice I think. Now Ghost Whisperer isnt by itself. Makes for a great Sci-fi night.

92. Holly says:

Nick C, I think one major difference between CBS’s use of Survivor and the use of DWTS and Idol is that Suvivor was never 3+ hours a week. One hit show can draw viewers and help one lead-out, but it can’t support a network the way Idol has or prop up multiple shows.

93. chet says:

seems NBC has shot themselves in the foot
canceling medium and giving it back to CBS
i think CBS will rule friday nights
with whisperer,medium and numbers
too bad for southland and anything e4lse on friday
chuck and dollhouse….love them bnoth
i think their renewel is just a stay of execution
we will see

of all the networks CBS is in the best position
i think CBS andFOX will do best
with growth for CW
NBC will fall flat and ABC will need to retool
but will do better as NBC thows in the towel
my 2 pennies
shaking the magic eight ball

94. J. Norman says:

My take:

1) Great move: In getting the Big Bang Theory away from House at 8:00. The combination of 2 1/2 men and BBT will be a big ratings winner.

2) Don’t like: Leaving How I Met Your Mother to flounder opposite House. Why not move it to Wednesday nights and pair with New Christine. Those shows would play well off one another and be on a weaker night.

3) Sink or swim: Let Gary Unmarried and this new “Dharma meets Knocked Up” Jenna Elfman show sink or swim on their own merits. I’ll be watching House.

4) Up in the air: Moving the Mentalist to 10:00 Thursday following CSI. This would be OK if CSI had Grissom full time. Without Grissom, they should have put the Mentalist in the 9:00 hour and let the sliding . . but still strong viewer wise. . .CSI at 10:00

5) Probably best spot: I have never watched the Medium, but it sounds like a good pairing behind Ghost Whisperer.

5) Rip Off:

95. Bill Gorman says:

chet, CBS has “ruled” Friday night for at least the 2 years we’ve been running this site. I agree that Medium is likely to be a positive ratings addition for them (vs. Flashpoint), but it’s not going to change the dynamic of the night.

96. Bill Gorman says:

I understand fans not wanting their show to be put opposite House, but CBS has to put something at 8 on Monday. All you folks who think that putting HIMYM there was a mistake, what *should* CBS put there?

97. Holly says:

A show the poster doesn’t like, duh!

98. Pas says:

My bad. For some reason, I thought BBT was getting better ratings than HIMYM, but it’s actually the opposite. And yeah, BBT is already a hit. TAHAM will just boost it more so it’s just gonna be worst for the other networks Monday at 9. Same about the whole Friday.

99. melbye says:

I feel sorry for Ugly Betty and Dollhouse

100. Don M says:

“Color me a little surprised at CBS moving BBT away from HIMYM.”

I am not that surprised. BBT got a one shot night this season with Men as a lead in. They really got a ratings boost from the Harpers.

101. chet says:

yeah bill
cbs has ruled fridays for a long time
but i think they will be even stronger
on fridays
all the other networks have IMO mismatched shows
comedy to scifi etc
where CBS will have a block that appeal to the same viewers
oh yeah the ones who will be home on a friday…LOL

102. Antonio says:

good job CBS for picking up Medium
and now just get good rating and rub it on NBC’s losing face

103. Melissa R says:

I’m going to need a second DVR just for Thursday nights.

104. Prup (aka Jim Benton) says:

Am I the only one who thinks that scheduling the two NCIS shows back-to-back is a mistake. (One CBS doesn’t usually make. They were wise to split up the CSIs, the way NBC originally split up the L&Os.)

If the spin-off is noticeably weaker than the original — and I think it will be, simply because of the brilliant casting in the original — those weaknesses will be highlighted more strongly by the adjacency. If it is as good, there still will be people saying ‘enough with the Navy and turning it off simply because of the similarity.

Fortunately, it is a mistake that they may correct before the show airs.

105. J. Norman says:

Bill, You’re right, CBS has to put something opposite House. They are probably going to lose that hour anyway, So why not what I alluded to above.

Sink or swim: Let Gary Unmarried and this new “Dharma meets Knocked Up” Jenna Elfman show sink or swim on their own merits at 8:00 Mondays. Protect HIMYM and put it on Wednesdays with New Christine. Why sacrifice one of your better shows when there is an alternative.

106. J. Norman, because while perhaps not optimal for HIMYM, it at least has a chance of respectable performance. Throwing the Gary Unmarried/Elfman there would spell certain doom for those two shows. That won’t be the case for HIMYM.

107. clutz says:

Is “Back” absolutely, positively done? Or is it still in possible development for midseason, 2010-2011, or for another net? Just curious. Plenty of pilots don’t get picked up, but with Skeet and Sherry as leads, I figured this one would be on somebody’s sked at some point.

108. jocor says:

YES! For Medium.

And SWEET! For Big Bang Theory.

I love both of those shows. And I’m glad CBS wants to treat them well to give Big Bang a Big Lead In and give Medium a real shot of success with such an obviously brilliant lead in that despite being on Friday is still genius.

I’m thinking CBS is going to blow NBC out of the water — AGAIN!

109. josh says:

VERY GOOD! thought I see a problem with Thursdays! Do CBS not care about Sundays?

Props for keeping Medium though!

110. Michael says:

Wow, good to see CBS going out on a limb by actually picking up all these cop/medical dramas. End sarcasm. The other networks have new shows like Day One, Flash Forward, V, etc. that don’t fit into the cop/medical genre. It saddens me that CBS can’t seem to try anything radically different this season. At least Big Bang is back, that is the best comedy in a long time!

111. jocor says:

Having taken a second look …. I will miss The Unit but am not surprised.

And why is CBS so terrible to Rules of Engagement. Which I don’t watch but has been doing really well.

112. Alex says:

I’m not sure why people are complaining about How I Met Your Mother being opposite House, that’s been the case for half of this season and its held up well. I don’t think the move to 8 is really going to make that much difference vs. 8:30, unless Mother was being propped up by Big Bang and I don’t personally think that’s the case.

I guess the annoyance comes from Big Bang getting the post-Men slot but frankly CBS had to do something different with that slot because putting new shows there hasn’t seen the results they want.

113. Sharoth says:

That´s sad I thought they might cancel at least one comedy so that they might consider Happiness Isn’t Everything“ and „Waiting to Die“. Hope they come at least at Midseason. does anybody know anything about it, because these shows seems to be fun.

114. Alex says:

Michael unlike the other nets CBS doesn’t need to do anything radically different, what they have is working and working well so why fix it? Eventually this will lead to disaster for them but for now they’re going ride this wave as long and as far as they can. And frankly I don’t think any of the other nets are really taking that many risks.

115. J. Norman says:

To Robert:

You wrote: J. Norman, because while perhaps not optimal for HIMYM, it at least has a chance of respectable performance. Throwing the Gary Unmarried/Elfman there would spell certain doom for those two shows. That won’t be the case for HIMYM.

Response: With regards to HIMYM, I sure hope not.

This past year I kind of thought that BBT and HIMYM survived OK opposite House because they were together. That is, if you went with BBT at 8:00 you knew another good comedy was coming up right behind it. In that way, BBT and HIMYM fed off each other and you did’nt think that you would have a dead 1/2 hour while the hour scripted finished up. . I’m not sure that will be the case this season. Much will depend on whether “Dharma meets Knocked UP” is any good. If it is, then HIMYM will be OK. If its not, then HIMYM will be the big loser in the comedy schedule shuffle.

116. Lena says:

The only new CBS show I’ll be watching this Fall is NCSI : Los Angeles .I love NCSI , well, and Criminal Minds too.
Susan , Jon , I was one of the Moonlight fans asking for a second season , but you don’t need to worry about me if Three Rivers gets canceled…I’ve been watching Desperate H . for years now , and I won’t change DH for a new CBS show. Well , that is not totally true , I would forget about DH for new Moonlight…but, like that is not going to happen I’ll stay with ABC and Desperate H.

117. Ron says:

Here is CBS’s explanation for the sitcom changes courtesy of Variety :
This is a network that loathes moving things that are generally working, and CBS had a power Monday night this season with “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 and “Two and a Half Men” at 9.

But CBS wants to turn “Big Bang” into a mega-hit of “Two and a Half Men” proportions – perhaps to eventually move it to a new night.

As a result, the Eye said it’s shifting the show back behind “Two and a Half Men,” where it got its start, in order to pump its numbers up higher.

“Our first priority was to punch ‘Big Bang’ into the stratosphere a bit,” Kahl said.

The shuffle also puts “How I Met Your Mother” back in the lead-off 8 p.m. slot. The show occupied that same position a few years ago, but Kahl admitted that the net “threw it to the wolves” that early in the show’s life.

Now, he said, “Mother” has developed a stronger and loyal following, enough that it was ready to once again kick off Mondays.

Tassler and Kahl said they also believed “Mother” will also be called upon to help launch new Jenna Elfman comedy “Accidentally on Purpose,” which will air at 8:30.
118. R.G. says:

So NBC throws away MEDIUM and CBS picks it up…more crap on TV stays on TV…?!?

With that CBS & FOX are still the kings of Network TV…gone are the days of NBC and possibly ABC…

119. Mumbo says:

Well, this is a pretty boring and predictable schedule, but that’s to be expected of the top dog.

NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife: In case you thought there weren’t enough procedurals/legal dramas on TV, here’s some more!

I like how reality TV is labeled “alternative.” Call it what it is please. Those two new reality series will flop for sure, so.

Wish CBS would actually try something amibtious and stick with it, since their schedule’s so solid and they have room to experiment, but ah, I guess playing it safe is how they got to be so strong in the first place.

120. Terrence says:

For the record, HIMYM did better at 830 with the “Bang” lead-in than when it was leading off the night at 8.

Plus they fed well off of each other.

I maintain that “Gary” should have gone after “Men”. That show’s one-off in the time slot also did well.

121. Tina says:

SO glad for Medium. I’ve watched that show religiously since it’s series premiere. Definitely my favorite on TV & I’m glad that it’ll be on a more competent network now.

122. Larry says:

Please bring back The Unit & W/O A Trace. I watched them religously and would continue to. Any day & time would be fine. Am tired of reality shows, except Survivor & Big brother. Can’t imagine no complaints about taking off The Unit & W.O A Trace.
CBS was pretty much the only Network I watched. That may be changing. Take off Old Christine & HIMYM. Love most other primetime programs.
Also, miss Jericho.

123. j says:

Hey, Mr. Big returns.
NCIS paired with NCIS 2, and ghost-talking paired with ghost-talking? Okay. NCIS2 will be the only non-reality of the four nets Tuesday at 9.
The Mentalist move seems kind of dumb; it already gets big ratings, so shouldn’t they try to boost a new show? Unless of course they absolutely want to dominate that day.
Wednesday at 8 seems weak; maybe Top Model will keep being up there in 18-34 after all.
SVU/Criminal Minds vs. Glee as counter-programming will be interesting.
Thursday at 9 will likely remain the most competitive hour, though Sunday at 9 will be close behind. Friday at 9 has the largest increase in excitement from last season.

124. Dave says:

Have to say I’m happy to see Numb3rs Season 6 and The Mentalist Season 2 confirmed because we’ve all known about The Big Bang Theory’s two year renewal for a while now.

I’m very pleased CBS have moved The Big Bang Theory (a) away from House and (b) to a later time slot. Given that The Big Bang Theory is guaranteed for the 2010-2011 season, it has the chance to develop its fanbase for the next two years which can only be positive because imho it’s the best scripted comedy on TV at the moment.

125. Aquat1c F1sh says:

NCIS: Los Angeles seems interesting.

And moving The Mentalist to Thursdays? I’m almost surprised they didn’t put The Mentalist on at 9 and then move CSI to 10 with the way CSI has been going lately.

126. AZTop says:

Good idea moving The Mentalist to Thursday and getting it away from the unscripted stuff. I think it will do well at 10:00, but I agree that it would make more sense to go at 9:00 and move CSI to 10:00. That’s probably not politically possible. I have a hunch that the producers would scream and since so much of the CBS schedule is dependent on that production company – it’s not going to happen until CSI really crashes – which could be coming much sooner than the CBS brass thinks.

127. Rick Holy says:

So I’m not regarded as a “CHUCK” troll – just want to say I’m happy for the MEDIUM fans that CBS picked it up. Enjoy your show!!

128. W i l l o w says:

CBS Is my New Hero Now. Hopefully Medium’s Sixth Season gets a Full 22 Episode Roster. :D

129. Nick C says:

Holly, I disagree. A show that is number 1 like SURVIVOR was for a long time is a tent pole. Sure it is only the lead in for one show, but promos are still run for other shows during it. It’s more old school than the new AMERICAN IDOL way, but it does work. It’s rare that the top show isn’t on the top network.

130. Nick C says:

Rick Holy, you almost had it there but you had to mention CHUCK! I’m glad the MEDIUM fans have a home to watch their show, but I’m still convinced that CBS is nuts for doing it.

131. Alex says:

I think CBS has made the right move not throwing The Mentalist on Thursday at 9, it just seems like that’s the kind of move that would kill the show at this stage. Letting it grow an audience in a fairly cushy 10PM slot against Private Practice and Leno seems like a good move. Seriously think how well it was doing against Biggest Loser, the Idol assisted Fringe and Dancing with the Stars, even with the lower HUT for 10PM I think the audience is going to get bigger next year.

132. daniel says:

they messed up my monday (CBS and NBC) by putting heroes on at 8 and CBS deciding to move bbt instead of HIMYM after 2 1/2 men

133. OpeningDayGuy09 says:

Now wait a damn minute, this CBS lineup is no doubt the best of the other networks but there were some dumb moves on here.

Okay Medium makes sense but past this year when GW starts to slide that show is will live on its last legs. Like I said before watch out for NBC Friday, I honestly think that with L&O not having to go against a CBS procedural its guranteed for 7-8+ million viewers every week chewing down GW’s neck and will help SouthLAnd which I don’t buy its bad ratings the last few weeks b/c of the CBS procedurals and increased competition going against it after Week 3.

Now I was not happy after Trace, Unit and 11th Hour all got the axe but it made it even worse when I found out what the hell was replacing it. THE GOOD WIFE? You minus well get repeats of The Mentalist ready for late October.

WHERE’s WASHINGTON FIELD, HAWAII 5-0, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO? These three shows without a doubt would’ve had hit ratings. Washington Field should’ve aired Tuesday Nights at 10pm.

Cold Case at 10pm is a good spot but CSI: Miami should’ve moved to Sundays at 9pm and Hawaii Five-0 for Mondays at 10pm.

You know what CBS what is your deal about not programming Saturday Nights? You easily could’ve put shows like The Unit, Trace and 11th Hour on Saturdays.

I’m interested in Three Rivers but I don’t have a very good feeling about it there.

The best unchange on here was Criminal Minds and CSI: NY, don’t mess with that for at least another couple of years. Now CSI and The Mentalist is a great duo but it should’ve been swamped so that CSI won’t have to compete with Grey’s Anatomy anymore. NCIS: LA should not be on the same night with the original. Now I would’ve kept The Mentalist there and moved NCIS: LA to Thursdays at 9pm.

Overall CBS let me down big time today with a schedule that’s got even more holes than it had last year.

134. dustin says:

Chuck is responsible for 1/3 of all posts on this entire website. Without Chuck TVBTN would be a little less fun. I would like to say that I think it is great for Medium to be back, people enjoy the show.

135. Dan says:

Wow, this schedule is a lot more creative and better than I expected. Mondays are actually a surprise and similar to thursdays. Instead of CBS putting a new series to air after the established shows (Two and a Half Men and CSI) they put the already established Big Bang Theory and Mentalist. Good Move. Also the pairing of Accidentally with HIMYM looks to be a winner. The airing of the new NCIS spinoff after NCIS was widely expected but hopefully CBS won’t have trouble with The Good Wife in the same way they used to with previous Tuesday 10pm shows (Smith, 3 lbs., Love Monkey, Jericho). Wednesday is the only day thats exactly the same, though i originally thought Gary would be axed and be replaced with Rules of Engagement but looks like CBS is sticking with Christine and Gary and once again Rules is waiting in midseason. The Mentalist airing after CSI may also solve CBS’s CSI retention problems in the same way CBS airing TBBT after TAAHM could solve TAAHM’s retention problem. Fridays look great with NBC’s freshly axed Medium filling in the much problem causing Friday 9pm slot, but this is good for both networks. Now NBC can have more room on the schedule while at the same time CBS getting a great compatible series for Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs. last but not least Sundays. As expected the almost axed Cold Case was moved to 10pm in its 7th and likely final season, and a new series Three Rivers will take its place. Theres no word on Flashpoint, but with so many new episodes left, its bound to show up midseason or as a summer series. This is such a great schedule, anyone else agree????

136. mwa says:

Medium’s 6th season DID get a 22 episode order, that was the whole point of renewing it on CBS, because NBC would not.
I think Medium will do well in the ratings. NBC is in trouble, NOT Medium.

137. Lucia says:

Holly, we get it. You don’t like Alex O’Loughlin. Every comment you make, and apparently you have a lot of time to make them over these weeks, you post how bad you think Alex is. Fortunately, CBS doesn’t agree with you and have gone out of their way to hang on to him; putting him in a movie and as star of a series.

I would venture to guess they, being the #1 rated network by far, probably know talent better than you. I think you have made your point. Pick on someone else now, will you?

138. Holly says:

huh? I think this is the first comment I’ve made…And it’s not that I think he’s bad, I just don’t think he’s exceptional or will be a huge draw….Oh wait, when he guested on Criminal Minds, I did point out that his presence had no effect on the ratings… Grab the pitchforks!

139. mwa says:

I do HAVE to say this, and please know that I DO watch Chuck and DO enjoy it:

All those Chuck fans creating the whole Chuck versus Medium thing are the ones who did not get the better deal…Chuck is still on NBC for a few 13 eps next year, in the winter, and Medium gets a 22 episode full season order on a the TOP RATED network and will be back in the Fall.

So, thank you to Chuck fans! Your internet oush really helped out ‘Medium’ fans!

140. Leedog says:

CBS reminds me of an “old person’s channel” maybe because my grandparents use to watch the channel all the time.

141. Jon says:

I think Alex O’Loughlin is a good actor but he’s not a ratings draw as evident as Holly said about the Criminal Minds episodes as much as the deluded fans of Moonlight think he is. I think he would do well with the right project but I have a horrible feeling that Three Rivers isn’t going to be it.

Interesting that CBS went for two medical dramas since they’ve not had a successful medical drama outside of Chicago Hope unless Diagnosis Murder counts as a medical drama.

142. Rick Holy says:

nwa – Glad we could help. I don’t watch Medium, but I’m happy for those who love it that they’ll get to continue watching it. Just wish the Sarah Connor fans got their show (again, one I don’t watch), but hoped it would be renewed for their sake.

143. Jake30 says:

They just had to move TBBT to 8:30 CT and make it collide with one of my other shows.

144. Rick Holy says:

Nick C. Now I’ve not only brought up “CHUCK,” but also Sarah Conor!! Just for YOU, buddy. Just for YOU!!

145. Lucia says:

Holly, didn’t you also say that his English/Irish (or whatever)background would not make a good Jablonsky awhile back and that you “wished him the best” but you certainly wouldn’t be watching. Those are the only times I came here and so I can image that all the times I don’t, whenever his name comes up, you jump in. Am I wrong?

146. Rick Holy says:

By the way, Nick C. I can’t make out the 3 characters that are on your post photo (these eyes aren’t that good anymore). Who are they?? I can make out that it’s three dudes in suits, but that’s about it. Thanks!! (And I’m trying to keep my posts SHORTER so as to nut bug out your eyes!!) ;)

147. Holly says:

Lucia, Yes, you are wrong.

148. Holly says:

Oh, and I never said anything about his character’s name, because I didn’t know it. I never cared enough to find out.

149. dave says:

TBBT at 9:30 is sure to get big ratings but at the expense of the new 8 30 comedy. TBBT gains more viewers in its timeslot then the new comedy loses by not getting it so its probably a smart move, but it doesn’t show a lot of faith in the new show.

I’m sad to see CBS didn’t go all in on wed comedies with a 2 hour block. I would have liked to see TBBT, or HIMYM over on Wednesday to really give the block a chance, but it seems like CBS is content with mediocre ratings for the wed. comedies.

150. Lucia says:

Then I apologize!

151. Jon K says:

I agree that ‘NCIS:Los Angeles’ is an awkward title, but what else would they call it? NCIS:LA?

152. Nick C says:

Holly, hater! ;)

153. TomSD says:

Why does CBS hate HIMYM? They’re throwing it against House knowing it will have less ratings than BBT had during the season.

Lets go over how CBS screwed up every chance it had to make HIMYM to the new Freinds;
Not moving it behind 2 and a half Men back in 2005/2006 after they canceled Out of Practice.
Not moving it again at the begining of the 2006/2007 season.
Giving the post-Superbowl to Criminal Mindes that did nothing to help it’s ratings for the long run and geting one of the lowest 18-49 ratings of the spot in last 15 years.
Again, not moving it behind 2 and a half Men.
And Generaly not investing in it enought because it’s a 20th TV show and not CBS studios. Seinfeld and Friends were WB shows, but NBC invested in them and it paid off tremendusly.

I think CBS is doing the exact same thing ABC did to The Parctice back in 2003. They’re trying to lower the ratings to reduce the licencing fee. The reason HIMYM was picked-up this late is because they were sending a message to 20th TV.
I kinda hope it will backfire one CBS and FOX will pick-up HIMYM next season and stick it behind Idol to finally have the successful they wanted for so long.

154. Holly says:

Nick, :P

155. Daria says:

Not sure if I like the idea of HIMYM and BBT apart, they were such a great team.

156. josie says:

I hope Kring remembers TPTB @ CBS on his Christmas list. They just handed him some breathing room the second half hour of HEROES.

157. Kal Carter says:

Could they pick up Happiness Isn’t Everything at another time? Does anyone know anything about this? Did it test well? I remember hearing it was “Hot”. lol

158. Lisa says:

Well, no matter how awkward the name NCIS: Los Angeles is, it doesn’t suck as much as “Navy NCIS”–the redundant name given to NCIS during its first year on the air, which literally and quite stupidly read Navy Naval Criminal Investigative Service when written out.

159. Chuck fan says:

I’m happy Medium moved to the CBS. It should fit in there well with the aging fans and demos.

I’m also glad that Chuck and BBT do not have to compete.

160. Some guy named John says:

So wait CBS has how many crime investigation shows? And people don’t get enough of this stuff?

Well at least Monday night will be full of laughter (until 10PM…LOL)

161. Frank says:

This seems like a winner! At midseason The mentalist should swap with CSI. Unless it is ultra expensive Without a Trace could have been put on Wed night instead of comedies. Move those to Sunday at 10 for counter programing and raunch em up ( 2 and 1/2 men rauchy that is) Tues at 10 will be up for grabs without SVU, so maybe they could have grabed that crowd, which will end up watching cable

162. JoJo says:

Count me as another person disappointed that the Unit was cancelled. The Unit was cancelled, but Medium was picked up. Medium has 3 million less total viewers than The Unit and lower ratings in the key demos. It makes no sense to me.

163. Mark says:

YAY MEDIUM!!!!!!!!

164. SLP says:

The only show I currently watch on CBS is the Amazing Race. Is is sad that I semi-want to watch The Good Wife because of Matt Czuchry (Logan from Gilmore Girls)? I think people used to be very network-dedicated. When I was a teenager I would give almost everything on the WB a chance and ABC if there was something that sounded good. I never tuned in to the other networks and since I had enough hours of TV to entertain me. Now with TV seasons on DVD and episodes online, I wait until after a couple of episode and look at ratings before I even give a new show a chance. I only watch pilot episodes if I’m following an actor (like Nathan Fillion on Castle) or I was already watching something on that channel on the same night (like Supernatural after Smallville or Chuck before Heroes).

165. Riff Rafferty says:

CBS’ philosophy. If it ain’t broke, let’s fix it! They change 4 nights, which have just about nothing wrong with them, while taking one of their biggest problem areas — Wednesdays 8:00-9:00 — and leaving it as is. Smart.

They try “How I Met Your Mother” at 8:00 once this season. It stiffs. So what they do? Reward it with the time slot.

And oh.em.gee, I just realized a Paula Marshall show got renewed for a second season. And Paula Marshall is on it. IT’S A MIRACLE OF MODERN SCIENCE! She may have to call up Nathan Fillion to help her through this.

With maybe one exception, new shows do not look good. “Three Rivers” clips were TERRIBLE. (How many flops do the “Jericho” hacks need, anyway?) I imagine the only good thing about that one will be the resulting meltdown from the “Moonlight” Grape Kool Aid cult when this too gets cancelled. I look forward to all the PhotoShop fantardard that will soon be flooding CBS. Maybe if Nina Tassler is lucky, she’ll even get some death threats this time around. Those kooks already despise her for the “actor centric” comment. (You can really see how wrong that comment proved to be…)

166. ljo says:

@Some guy named John

Have you ever watched CSI:Miami? From the few times I saw it, I’d have to say that the acting on that show is some of the most hilarious stuff on television.

167. Joshua K. says:

I just realized I never watch ANYTHING on CBS…and after looking at this list, I can safely say that I still won’t. LOL

168. thedemonhog says:

On Friday, CBS plans to add the popular drama series MEDIUM at 9:00 PM, starring Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette, to its top-rated Friday night lineup, forming a hauntingly compatible two-hour block with GHOST WHISPERER at 8:00 PM.

Heh heh, “hauntingly compatible”.

169. JJ says:

Friday night’s schedule is bizarro.

Nonsense show: Ghost Whisperer
Nonsense show: Medium
Rational/Logical show: Numb3rs

Wow! That’s shocking. No one who watches Numb3rs will watch that idiotic garbage meant for the mindless voo-doo crowd. And no one who watches those completely nonsensical shows will ever watch Numb3rs because their brains would explode at the first demonstration of reason and logic.

Bizarre choices from CBS.

170. Yasser says:

so MY NAME IS EARL didnt picked up by any netowrk ? !

171. Connie says:

The crazy Moonlight fans are really the crazy Alex fans and yes we are here!
Alex is a very talented actor. The show has a very good chance of lasting based on his acting alone. If you add in the other actors and actresses in the cast I believe this show will do very well.
Go Alex!!

172. Kyle says:

I am glad that TBBT was moved, it was always a decision between House and TBBT and I am glad that both shows will be able to explode in the ratings without each other as competition. If HIMYM can maintain its 8.30 rating @ 8 then it should do fine in the slot, if not then CBS could move TBBT back to 8 and move HIMYM to 8.30 mid-season after TBBT has had a chance to grow its audience a bit(assuming that Jenna Elfman’s show dies).

Medium on Friday is great for the show but very bad for Dollhouse. As others have already said, The Mentalist should be getting the 9pm slot and CSI the 10pm. CSI has been a shadow of itself without Grissom. I am not sure about the NCIS spin off, the backdoor pilot on NCIS didn’t endear me to any of the new characters except Chris O’Donnell.

Overall CBS still has the strongest lineup and probably the best schedule released this upfront season.

173. TS says:

Good thing is Now I can simply stop watching CBS period….. You cancelled the only show I watched on your network, funny is it had better ratings than some of the limp shows you have now. Now off to FOX!

174. cjwills says:

Holly!
Have you ever watched Alex O’Loughlin in any of his films? (Oyster Farmer, Mary Bryant, or The Invisible) Did you see his performance as Kevin Hiatt in The Shield? Did you EVER watch him in Moonlight? In short, are you familiar with his body of work? Sure. He has a large fan base from Moonlight because he happens to be gorgeous, but this man is talented. Many felt the series was not given a fair chance. But Alex O’Loughlin has a body of work much larger than that series… I think you need to give him a chance. CBS obviously sees great potential in him, or they would not be developing vehicles for him. His character in Three Rivers is based on the FAMOUS heart transplant surgeon Dr. Gonzalo Gonzales-Strawinski from the Cleveland Heart Clinic. If you EVER need heart surgery (Do you even have a heart, Holly?) I would recommend the Cleveland Heart Clinic. It is most famous in the world because it is the most successful, the most innovative place to go with the best doctors… Robin Williams (have you even heard of him, Holly?) chose the Cleveland Heart Clinic for his heart surgery, because if you want the best, you go there… Not that Alex is Gonzalo, but his character is based on him and promoting organ donors in our era of GREEN is so right, so human and so selfless… So, earth to Holly, give Three Rivers a chance. If it is good, it will succeed, and, I predict, Alex will contribute to its success. Stay tuned to CBS for Three Rivers.

175. rodshooter says:

Does anybody here know what happened to Hawaii 5-0, The Streets of San Francisco and Washington Field for CBS?

176. dustin says:

Oh, ahh, oh, I just flashed!

177. ST says:

Huh. Looks like another season of not watching CBS. Only broadcast network I never tune into. Not sure I even know the channel number, come to think of it…

178. William Haney says:

Also, CBS has the Super Bowl this year and that will help boost them in February until the Olympics kick in at NBC.

179. clutz says:

Just one tiny clarification for cjwillis: I’m fairly certain Three Rivers is set in the medical innovation mecca known as Pittsburgh ;) . With all due respect to the Cleveland Heart Clinic – Pittsburgh is the ideal setting for a medical drama. I think they shot the pilot here too.

180. Lucy says:

I’m tired of hearing that CBS only appeals to old people. I’m 28 and I love NCIS and am looking forward to the spin-off, although I agree the title could better, but airing them back to back could work if they are planning to tie cases together. Interesting move for the Mentalist, I think CSI’s days are numbered.

Overall, CBS has the strongest line-up that’s watched by the most people overall and they aren’t slouches in the demos either.

181. Riff Rafferty says:

Oh, and congratulations to Cheryl Heuton and Nick Falacci on the 6th season of “Numb3rs.” I had no idea how close to the edge of the bubble it was.

182. Cody says:

Personally I don’t get why CBS is so popular Same old Crime, Same old Stupid Comedy.

183. Cody says:

Oh and Ghost more Ghosts

184. ABCFanatic says:

I predict those 2 reality shows 2 medical shows will fail and that new drama The Good Wife that is not procedurals. CBS is only good at procedurals.

I can see NCIS2 and The Bridge a success.

185. Paul PT says:

I don’t agree with CBS options.

First was a mistake to cancel Without a Trace, because don’t have a series finale… after all this years with huge ratings and being CBS so «well in ratings they should do that, to shows some respect to the public.

Then The Mentalis in thursdays at 10? only in winter, because in my opinion this series need a little more time in is original slot.

NCIS and NCIS spin-off in the same day? Maybe later, but during fall in wednesdays at 8PM i think it was better.

without a trace should have a 8th season and the return to the slot after CSI.

The series finale could air in the first or second week of january with a 3 episode arch form tuesday until thursday (i think in a very good story… who implicates the special appearence of gill grissom, sarah siddle, warrick brown and catherine willows and another two celebrity star. a explosive ending, and maybe with a subplot that could had a continuation in CSI plot series. However this episodes aren’t a full cross-over.) BUT WE KNOW that now this is impossible. maybe someone in CBS could have a similar idea in the next few weeks, when they realize that the new schedule has not that certains…

HYMIM at 8 i guess some problems here for CBS… below 3.5 in the demo is almost certain. not good for the new sitcom.

Maybe the new sitcom in the fall should air after two and a half men… and again in january if the rating were good they move to 8PM and BBT to 9:30, or even HIMYM who never had that oportunitty.

186. Cody says:

At least NBC had some fresh stuff with Heroes (Season 1) and the Office

187. Rex says:

Medical dramas, cop shows, and reality t.v.

Ah, television in the 21st century. :-|

188. Jane says:

My Grandfather’s retirement home is always abuzz on CBS upfronts day and this year was no exception.

189. Reg says:

CBS will have a stranglehold on Fridays now with Ghost Whisperer and Medium. A perfect fit if I ever saw one…. WOW

190. Reg says:

One more time. LOVE CBS for bringing back Medium. I’m with you Dawn!
P.S. Screw NBC for showing Medium noooo love!

191. Julia says:

Tiago Cavalcanti, I think that article means repeat syndication. The 69 episodes of The Unit that have already been produced have been sold into syndication. The required number of episodes for syndication is getting lower and lower.

192. Dan says:

JoJo – While The Unit was axed and Medium was renewed. keep in mind, Medium consistently outperformed most of NBC’s other series at 10pm while The Unit was CBS’s lowest rated drama and its retention was bad. Its no surprise that after getting a surprise pick up last year, the series ends now. The Unit is already in syndication so its not that bad. Also Medium was close to 100 episodes, and more episodes for syndication means more $$$$ for CBS studios.

JJ – CBS’s friday seems bizzare to you, but at the same time they draw twice as many viewers as ABC, FOX, or NBC. 9-11 million doesn’t seem that bad, especially on fridays. CBS seems to have a problem with their Friday 9pm slot (similiar to their Tuesday 10pm slot and Thursday 10pm slot) and finding a compatible show. They’ve tried Close to Home, Moonlight, The Ex List and Flashpoint, all except for Flashpoint have failed but still the cheap canadian import has dwindled. I think the combo of Ghost Whisperer, Medium, and Numb3rs is perfect for CBS.

Paul PT – It sucks WAT didn’t get a proper finale, but it was probably a last minute thing. CBS isn’t the network to announce the ending to a series, even a long running one. The last long running series to end on CBS was JAG and Joan of Arcadia and the closest to getting a finale was JAG and even then it wasn’t confirmed that the series would end. What the producers of Without a Trace and Cold Case should have done, was back when the 2 series were announced to be in danger, the producers should have created proper finales or atleast some closure. They new there was the chance so why waste it?? And I think that NCIS spinoff should air after NCIS for now similar to how The Mentalist aired there. once the enw NCIS establishes itself as a hit, then CBS can move it to another slot.

193. Julia says:

Dan, Joan of Arcadia was canceled after two seasons. How is that long running?

194. Bill Gorman says:

Tiago, to be clear, that’s syndicated distribution of reruns of The Unit, not new episodes.

195. Dan says:

I believe that by moving TBBT after TAAHM and by moving The Mentalist after CSI, CBS can buidl on those series. CBS wants to turn The Big Bang Theory into a hit for the next 2 seasons (and solve that 9:30 slot problem once and for all) by getting the post Men audience and I think out of all the previous occupants (Out of Practice, Courting Alex, Old Christine, Rules of Engagement, Worst Week) The Big Bang Theory can do the best. In The Mentalist’s case, CBS wants to build on The Mentalists already mammoth audience by pairing it with the compatible CSI, and with similiar ratings, I think both can achieve success. Its possible this could be the last year for How I Met Your Mother, but if not the move to 8 can’t do too much damage, and its better than airing Accidentally on Purpose to lead off the night. I also think that this will be Cold Case’s final season (moving it to 10 was probably a good hint) and also CBS wants to be very patient with their comedy block (In previous years, CBS would have just scrapped the hour entirely but this year it seems, they want to let both series grow). I think this could be CBS’s best schedule in years. Here’s my thought on the canceled series.

Worst Week – Its retention out of Two and a Half Men was horrible, and just kept dipping. Also this show is single camera and doesn’t really fit with the style of the other comedies. I’d expect a series like this would work out better on ABC. but they can’t launch a successful comedy anyway. This is no surprise.

The Unit – After four seasons, its not a big surprise that CBS would pull the plug. Its retention out of Cold Case hasn’t been that great and it seems CBS needs more slots anyway.

Without a Trace – It came down to 2 dramas, this and Cold Case. I always knew that Cold Case would be renewed over Trace, and my only thought on that was because Case is a year younger. Even though the series still does well it sucks to see such a well performing veteran get dumped like this. But I guess If your a CBS show, its expected.

Eleventh Hour – This was a series that I knew from the start wouldn’t get another year. There were a few hints in the beginning, (the lower than usual episode order, combined with the early ending) The retention out of CSI was OK and the series did tend to skew older. It seems that CBS liked the series enough to give it a few more episodes but not enough to give it a second season.

Summary for this year, basically CBS got rid of a lot of 10pm shows and either moved older shows to 10 or they are launching a new series there. But basically I think the schedule is pretty stable.

196. Jon says:

Medium moving to CBS is blessing in disguise as it will definetly get more viewers airing Ghost Whisperer than Heroes. It’s weird that three NBC shows have moved channels with Scrubs last season, Criminal Intent the season before last and Medium this season as it’s quite rare for it to happen unless a. The production company is still making off it. or b. One of the networks sees the potential and picks it up as was the case of JAG and Buffy.

197. Dan says:

Julia – I meant to say JAG and Judging Amy. Joan of Arcadia was also axed that year but it was only 2 years old.

198. Dan says:

Jon – In the cases of both Scrubs and Medium, both shows are produced by different studios than the network they are on. Both Scrubs and Medium were picked up by ABC and CBS respectively because of the same reason, the networks who own them want to make more $$$$ off of syndication. In Scrubs case, NBC quickly after the strike and ABC really wanted to pick up the series to give it another chance and use it to build a comedy hour. In Medium’s case, with limited slots next year, NBC couldn’t find room for the series nor could they reach a deal with CBS, so they axed it. CBS studios, who seemed very pissed off, acknowledged how well the series did, and the next day it was picked up for a sixth season. Law & Order: Criminal Intent was moved to USA in a mutual deal, in order to help out that network and at the same time NBC has rerun rights to air new episodes after USA does. NBC has a similiar deal with DirecTV to air Friday Night Lights episodes after that network has. NBC also has Earl possibly moving to FOX next year. So in all within the last 2 years NBC has had 4 series change to 4 different networks in a mutual deal or picked up after cancellation (with a fifth network depending on Earl).

Scrubs moved to ABC in 2008
Medium moved to CBS in 2009
Earl possibly moving to FOX in 2009
Criminal Intent moved to USA in 2007
Friday Night Lights moved to DirecTV in 2007

199. lisaw says:

Considering how Without A Trace has performed for CBS over the years it at least deserved a proper Finale and certainly not a slot against the final hour of the Finale of DWTS. But it should have got at least one Season against Jay Leno.

I feel that scheduling the NCIS spin-off directly after NCIS is overkill and may well backfire.

200. Dan says:

Lisaw – If CBS had the money, and more room, than I’m sure Trace would be back. It did well for Tuesdays at 10, but i’m sure CBS thinks that a new series could do better. With so many well performing series and limited timeslots, its hard to decide, which shows stayed and which go. Last year, all of the sophomore and freshman dramas were axed (Shark, Jericho, Viva Laughlin, Moonlight, Cane) and this year a few 10pm series were let go, including the retention losing series The Unit, Eleventh Hour, and Without a Trace, which was probably hard for CBS to axe. Same as last year’s Welcome to the Captain, CBS axed the only new single camera comedy on there schedule (Worst Week), while keeping there 2nd night of comedy intact. Also same as last year, CBS has 13 episodes of Rules of Engagement waiting for midseason to come. I actually think that the lead in of the original NCIS will help the new one out, however like The Mentalist, once the new NCIS establishes itself, it should be moved.

201. Faith says:

As always CBS , same of the same…The only shows CBS backs up are all those CSI and NCSI.
I bet you most of those new shows , The Good Wife , Three Rivers…won’t come back next year. I even doubt some will make it through the whole season. Not that I realy mind because both look quite boring. Yuck!. I mean , another Attorney show (remember Close to home?) and another Medical dramma o even worst because it is just about transplants, how many diferent type of organs can be transplanted in 20 episodes? (double Yuck!)
The only show I see coming back for a second season at CBS is NCSI :Los Angeles. So the others , I won’t even bother watching them…

202. Holly says:

I bet you most of those new shows…won’t come back next year.

Well, since only 1/3 of shows that premiere on broadcast nets ever see a second season, that’s not exactly a risky bet. (For the record, historically CBS has been more likely than ABC, NBC, or FOX to give new shows a second season, especially 1-hour dramas).

203. Dan says:

Here’s my guess for how the cancellations/renewals will go for the new series:

NCIS: Los Angeles – Definite full season renewal, plum post NCIS timeslot previously held by the Mentalist. This series is expected to do the same as the regular NCIS in the same way that the CSI spinoffs have done.

Three Rivers – Likely full season renewal or additional episodes. The series has a good time slot and Moonlight lead Alex O’Loughlin. So I think that this one has a good chance of staying the season.

The Good Wife – This series seems like the underdog for CBS. Plus its in the cursed Tuesday at 10pm slot. Even if it can retain its NCIS lead in, I doubt this show will last past 4 episodes.

Accidentally on Purpose – Likely full season or additional episodes for this series. It will be hard to launch a new series after HIMYM, but I think CBS will be patient with this one. Unless CBS is ready to let Rules out early, don’t expect cancellation any time soon for this one.

I don’t get why people diss CBS, it is formulaic but it works and they’ve been number 1 6 times out of seven years with last season being the exception because of the writer’s strike.

The concept of Three Rivers is interesting but I’m not sure if it can work because of the focus of organ donations which may get repetitive. The Good Wife seems a little soapy for a CBS show but it’s got a great cast which may work in its favour.

I’m interested to see footage of Miami Trauma which had an okay script but it does sound like ER, Bruckheimer style.

What are people’s thoughts on what CBS is focusing on making a hit?
i’ve already seen promotion for NCIS LA, and it’s got a good slot on Tuesday 9pm.

Fox really tried to pump up Fringe and it worked.
Don’t remember if CBS they did the same for The Mentalist.

The Good Wife, sounds like Canterbury’s Law and that bombed.
Three Rivers doesn’t seem like much, and can be replaced mid season by Miami Trauma.

Someone said: “No one who watches Numb3rs will watch that idiotic garbage meant for the mindless voo-doo crowd. And no one who watches those completely nonsensical shows will ever watch Numb3rs because their brains would explode at the first demonstration of reason and logic.”

“Medium,” while it is fiction, is based on the life of Alison Dubois, a real woman. (Don’t know the rules here about posting links, so just Google “Alison Dubois.”) Really more of a procedural with a twist than sci fi. I don’t suppose you have to accept all of the events depicted as being any more real than any episode of “The Andy Griffith Show,” but the show is based on real people.

Fiction is fiction. I turn on my tv to be entertained, and “Medium” does a fine job of that. Delighted it’s sticking around, and hope CBS doesn’t muck about with it too much.

207. Dan says:

I don’t tbhink, unless The Ex List type ratings are achieved, CBS would axe a series after 3 eps. Even The Good Wife could probably last like 7-8, before being axed.

208. sev says:

What the hell was NBC thinking cancelling Medium?
Their loss is CBS’s gain. It’s a fantastic show.
Kudo’s to CBS seeing that this show is still a HIT!!!!!

209. Natalie says:

Criminal Minds had 13.27 million viewers the day Alex O’Loughlin was on, April 29th. The previous week, April 22, Criminal Minds had a rerun and got 9.75 million viewers.
I liked Alex O’Loughlin in Moonlight. It was a freshman show that had two pilots. The first pilot was rejected and the cast was recast. It had about 4 different show runners. The last show runner was fired by CBS. Then CBS cancelled the show. It was the CBS show that could if given the chance. It would have increased in ratings had the writers strike not occurred. The audience would have grown. You know what CBS put in instead of Moonlight, The Ex-List. Who remembers the Ex-List? It lasted just 4 episodes before CBS pulled it off it’s schedule in October 2008. The last episode of the Ex-List garnered only 5.3 million viewers. Moonlight would have done better. That little experiment cost CBS ratings and revenue.
To those critics who calls Alex O’Loughlin just another pretty face has probably not seen the show or in anything else he’s been in. He is a versatile, talented actor. I know with Alex in Three Rivers that it will be good. I am sad that it isn’t Moonlight instead. I will support Alex in whatever project he is in. He is a good guy with a good heart.

210. Natalie says:

I believe a lot of good will stem from Three Rivers. There probably will be more donors in real life; there will probably be more recipients with incredible stories to tell. I give this series an “A” for all the good that will come from it. Sometimes TV should change and influence the world in a positive way. Alex makes the show watchable and worth watching.
