May 21, 2009 (New York, New York) ? The CW Network unveiled the schedule for its 2009-2010 season today at a presentation for advertisers, affiliates and national media in the Theater at Madison Square Garden.  The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, The CW.

“In just three years, The CW has become TV to talk about, with culturally current, quality programming,” said Ostroff.  “Next fall, we will have great flow from Monday through Friday, starting with the Monday pairing of ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘One Tree Hill,’ which made The CW one of the top destinations for young women this season.  Tuesday night gives us a perfect match with ‘90210′ and ‘Melrose Place.’  And what could be better than our Wednesday night shows from Tyra Banks and Ashton Kutcher – the all-model lineup of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and ‘The Beautiful Life.’  On Thursdays, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ taps into the continuing fascination young women have with all things vampire, and makes the perfect lead-in for ‘Supernatural,’ which is coming off its strongest year ever.  Moving ‘Smallville’ to Fridays gives us a major player with a loyal fan base to kick off the night.  Top all that off with our heartwarming and humorous midseason drama ‘Parental Discretion Advised,’ from writer/producer Liz Tigelaar, and we have a full slate of great programming to keep our viewers watching, chatting, texting and tweeting all next season.”

On Monday, the powerhouse combination of GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL will remain in place.  Last fall, this winning team made The CW the Number One network with women, and sent Monday night ratings up 118 percent in women 18-34.  GOSSIP GIRL, which continues to be one of the most talked-about shows on television, will return to its 8:00-9:00 p.m. slot, followed by ONE TREE HILL from 9:00-10:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, 90210 returns for its sophomore season in the 8:00-9:00 p.m. timeslot.  Last season, 90210 gave The CW its highest-rated series premiere ever and improved the 8:00 p.m. time period by 35 percent in women 18-34.  The highly anticipated, updated version of the 1990s monster-hit drama MELROSE PLACE will premiere in the 9:00-10:00 p.m. timeslot.  The new MELROSE PLACE features a dynamic ensemble of up-and-coming stars, along with two original cast members reprising the roles they made famous: Laura Leighton as Sydney Andrews and Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini.  MELROSE PLACE promises to deliver all the backstabbing and sizzle of the original series.  And, as they did once before, 90210 and MELROSE PLACE will combine for a great night of television.

On Wednesday, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL returns in its successful 8:00-9:00 p.m. timeslot, followed by the glamorous new drama THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE.  Last season, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL ranked second in its time period with young women.  Tyra Banks is one of the few women who is seen regularly on both daytime and primetime television.  Beginning this fall, The CW’s daytime block will feature two hours of THE TYRA BANKS SHOW, with an encore episode from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and an original episode from 4:00-5:00 p.m.  AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and THE TYRA BANKS SHOW provide perfect symmetry and a natural fit for The CW brand by targeting the same audience in both primetime and daytime.

New drama THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE joins TOP MODEL on Wednesdays.  From producers Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, Karey Burke, Mike Kelley and Carol Barbee, the fashion-based series gives viewers an exciting, behind-the-scenes glimpse at the cutthroat world of a group of young, beautiful and very sexy models living together in a models’ residence in New York City.  The show features a stunning ensemble cast, featuring Sara Paxton (“Last House on the Left”), Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”) and supermodel Elle Macpherson (“Friends”).  Together, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE will be television’s most fashionable night.

Thursdays go Goth with the new teaming of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES from 8:00-9:00 p.m., followed by SUPERNATURAL in the 9:00-10:00 p.m. hour.  Based on the best-selling series of books, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town.  Starring Nina Dobrev (“DeGrassi: The Next Generation”), Paul Wesley (“Mad Men”), Ian Somerhalder (“Lost”) and Steven R. McQueen (“Everwood”), THE VAMPIRE DIARIES makes the perfect new lead-in to SUPERNATURAL.  Last season, SUPERNATURAL’s Winchester brothers gave the network ratings growth across key young demos, despite the highly competitive timeslot.

Big changes are in store on Fridays when SMALLVILLE relocates to the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour, bringing young viewers from Thursday into Friday nights.  With non-stop action and classic DC Comics characters from Lois Lane to Doomsday, SMALLVILLE continues to give loyal viewers the stories and characters they love.

The heartwarming and humorous drama PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED will premiere midseason.  From writer/producer Liz Tigelaar, (“Brothers and Sisters”), PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED is the story of a young girl who finds her biological parents and how that discovery changes all their lives.  The show stars Britt Robertson (“Swingtown”), Kristoffer Polaha (“Mad Men”), Shiri Appleby (“E.R.”) and Kerr Smith (“Eli Stone”).

Television.

TUESDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. “90210″

The second season of “90210″ focuses on the West Beverly group as they begin their all-important Junior year.  They’ll go through all the ordinary teenage struggles and triumphs – crushes, sexual discovery, academic pressure, evolving friendships, shunning and isolation, love and relationships, family issues, SATs, STDs, a desire to fit in, a desire to stand out, fear and humiliation, joy and exultation – but they’ll do so in the extraordinary world of LA – a world of movie stars and overnight success, glamour and glitz, surfing and sunshine; a city where the American dream is writ large in the Hills and yet failure could come around any corner of the Boulevard of Broken Dreams.  We’ll follow Naomi, the well-meaning, but delightfully narcissistic rich girl with a heart of cubic zirconium; Adrianna, the gifted, artistic drama queen whose personal life is as dramatic as any role she could hope to play; Silver, the outspoken free spirit who marches to the beat of her own drum machine; Annie, the good girl from Kansas who has gotten a bit lost in the land of Oz; Dixon, her charming, good-natured brother who adapts easily to any challenging situation and yet is still struggling to find his own voice; Navid, whose geeky charm makes all the Blaze girls swoon; and Liam, the troubled New York transplant who abhors the decadent materialistic world of Beverly Hills.  These stories could only happen in LA…and only on “90210.”   The series stars Rob Estes as Harry Wilson, Lori Loughlin as Debbie Wilson, Shenae Grimes as Annie Wilson, Tristan Wilds as Dixon Wilson, AnnaLynne McCord as Naomi Clark, Ryan Eggold as Ryan Matthews, Jessica Stroup as Silver, Michael Steger as Navid Shirazi, Jessica Lowndes as Adrianna Tate-Duncan and Matt Lanter as Liam Court.  90210 is produced by CBS Television Studios with executive producer Rebecca Sinclair.

9:00-10:00 P.M. “MELROSE PLACE” (New Series)

In an elegant Spanish-style apartment building in the trendy Melrose neighborhood of Los Angeles, a diverse group of 20-somethings have formed a close-knit surrogate family.  Sydney Andrews (Laura Leighton, the original “Melrose Place”) is the landlady, still beautiful at 40, and a central figure in the lives of all her tenants, especially handsome and rebellious David Breck (Shaun Sipos, “Shark”).  Sydney started an affair with David despite her turbulent history with his estranged father, Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro, the original “Melrose Place”).  Both father and son learned through experience that Sydney was not above using blackmail to control people.  Another tenant, high-powered publicist Ella Simms (Katie Cassidy, “Supernatural”), once considered Sydney her mentor, but their friendship was destroyed by betrayal, and Sydney threatened to evict Ella and ruin her career.  Sydney also played a pivotal role in the career of Auggie Kirkpatrick (Colin Egglesfield, “All My Children”).  After they met at an AA meeting, she became Auggie’s sponsor and encouraged his dream to become a chef.  Now a successful sous chef at the trendy restaurant Coal, Auggie has been avoiding

Sydney since she began drinking again.  The other tenants include Lauren Yung (Stephanie Jacobsen, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), a medical student in desperate need of money to pay her student loans, and Jonah Miller (Michael Rady, “Swingtown”), an aspiring filmmaker who has just proposed to his live-in girlfriend Riley Richmond (Jessica Lucas, “Cloverfield”), a first-grade teacher.  The newest tenant, 18-year-old Violet Foster (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, “7th Heaven”), has just arrived in LA with her own secret connection to Sydney.  When a bloody body is found floating in the courtyard pool, David is the leading suspect.  However, as the police are soon to discover, almost everyone living at Melrose Place had a reason to want the deceased out of the way.  An updated version of the popular 1990s series, MELROSE PLACE is from CBS Television Studios with executive producers Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer (“Smallville”).  Oscar-winner Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth”) is the director and executive producer of the pilot.

WEDNESDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. “AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL”

Returning with its thirteenth and fourteenth cycles, the runaway runway hit series stars Tyra Banks.  The show gives real people an opportunity to prove that they can make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of supermodeling.  With mentoring by Tyra Banks and exposure to high-profile fashion-industry gurus, young women of various backgrounds, shapes and sizes must endure a highly accelerated modeling boot camp and face weekly tests to determine who will make the cut as they vie for a professional modeling contract.  The executive producers are Ken Mok (“Making the Band”), Tyra Banks and Daniel Soiseth (“Hell’s Kitchen”). The reality series was created by Tyra Banks and developed by Mok and Kenya Barris.  AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL is produced by 10 by 10 Entertainment in association with Bankable Productions.

9:00-10:00 P.M. “THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE” (New Series)

The life of a high-fashion model appears glamorous and sexy, but as every new model quickly learns, behind the beautiful façade is a world of insecurity and cutthroat competition.  Two teenage models who are about to discover this world for themselves are Raina Collins (Sara Paxton, “Last House on the Left”), a stunning beauty with a secret past, and Chris Andrews (Benjamin Hollingsworth, “The Line”), a strikingly handsome Iowa farm boy.  When Raina makes an unforgettable impression at a show introducing the new line from designer Zac Posen (appearing in a cameo role), she steals the spotlight from her friend Sonja (Mischa Barton, “The O.C.”).  Sonja has been out of the country for mysterious reasons and is now desperate to reclaim her standing as the reigning supermodel.  While Raina and Sonja live at the top of the fashion food chain, Chris is starting at the bottom, having just been discovered by agent Simon Lockridge (newcomer Dusan Dukic) of the Covet Modeling Agency, which is owned by former supermodel Claudia Foster (Elle Macpherson, “Friends”).  At his first photo shoot, Chris’ inexperience almost derails his career until Raina comes to his rescue, showing him how to relax and work the camera.  That afternoon, Raina brings Chris to the “models’ residence” where she lives along with other young hopefuls, including Marissa Delfina (Ashley Madekwe, “Secret Diary of a Call Girl”), Egan (Jordan Woolley, “As The World Turns”), Issac (Corbin Bleu, “High School Musical 2″) and the current alpha-male-model known as Kai (Nico Tortorella, “Twelve”).  At an exclusive industry party that night, Chris is again impressed by Raina’s generosity when she steps aside to make sure Sonja lands a job that will resurrect her career.  However, after an ugly scene with Simon, Chris is left to question whether he can survive in this world of dangerous excess and fleeting fame.  THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE is from Katalyst Films in association with CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Ashton Kutcher & Jason Goldberg (“True Beauty,” “Punk’d”), Karey Burke (“True Beauty”), Mike Kelley (“Swingtown,” “Jericho”) and Carol Barbee (“Swingtown,” “Jericho”).  Christian Duguay (“Coco Chanel”) directed the pilot.

THURSDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES” (New Series)

Four months after the tragic car accident that killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”) and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, “Everwood”) are still trying to cope with their grief and move on with their lives.  Elena has always been the star student; beautiful, popular and involved with school and friends, but now she finds herself struggling to hide her sadness from the world.  As the school year begins, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, “Army Wives”).  Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, and Elena has no way of knowing that Stefan is a centuries-old vampire, struggling to live peacefully among humans, while his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder, “Lost”) is the embodiment of vampire violence and brutality.  Now these two vampire brothers ? one good, one evil ? are at war for Elena’s soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.  Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer”), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”) and Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”).  Marcos Siega (“Dexter”) directed the pilot.

9:00-10:00 P.M “SUPERNATURAL”

Returning for its fifth season, this haunting series follows Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers bound by tragedy and blood to their dangerous, other-worldly mission.  This past season, Dean was rescued from Hell by the angel Castiel, who told Dean he was meant to avert the impending Apocalypse, as well as Lucifer rising from Hell.  As the brothers were caught up in the epic battle between angels and demons, Sam and Dean found their relationship was strained almost to the breaking point until ultimately, both brothers were betrayed.  Now, in season five, they must battle the Devil himself.  The series stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Misha Collins as Castiel).  SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “The O.C.”), Eric Kripke (“Boogeyman”) and Robert Singer (“Midnight Caller”).

FRIDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. “SMALLVILLE”

Returning for its ninth season, last season SMALLVILLE was filled with twists and surprises, starting with the disappearance of Lex Luthor.  However, someone quickly arrived to take his place – the enticing Tess Mercer.  As Tess maneuvered her way through town, she flirted with her old flame Oliver Queen, discovered Clark’s true identity and unleashed a new world of danger.  As if that hurdle wasn’t enough for Clark, he also met his greatest match – Doomsday.  SMALLVILLE explored the origins of Doomsday, revealing a sympathetic guy named Davis Bloome, who battled an inner demon – the Doomsday character fans have loved to hate for years.  When Clark wasn’t busy battling the beast, he was knee-deep in work at the Daily Planet.  Last season threw Clark and Lois Lane together – literally across the desk from each other.  As Clark’s persona as the cub Planet reporter emerged, so did his feelings for Lois, the fated love of his life.  The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, Justin Hartley as Oliver Queen and Cassidy Freeman as Tess Mercer.  Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters.  Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola.  The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television.  SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

9:00-10:00 P.M. “AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL”

(Encore Presentation).

MIDSEASON

“PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED” (New Series)

After spending all of her 15 years bouncing from one foster family to another in Portland, Oregon, Lux (Britt Robertson, “Swingtown”) has decided it’s time to take control of her life and become an emancipated minor.  Her journey through the legal maze leads Lux to her biological father, 30-something Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, “Mad Men”), who owns a bar, lives like an aging frat-boy with two slacker roommates, and is astonished to learn that he has a teenage daughter.  Lux is equally astonished when Baze reveals that her mother is Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, “E.R.”), a star on the local “Morning Madness” radio show, along with her on-air partner and real-life boyfriend, Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith, “Eli Stone”).  Lux has been listening to Cate’s voice on the radio as long as she can remember, so she feels an instant connection with the mom she’s never met.  Baze takes Lux to meet Cate, who is shocked and saddened to learn that Lux has grown up in foster care, but thrilled to finally meet her beautiful daughter. When a judge decides that Lux isn’t ready for emancipation and unexpectedly grants temporary joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to get past the awkwardness and make a belated attempt to give Lux the family she deserves.  PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED is produced by Mojo Films in association with CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Liz Tigelaar (“Brothers and Sisters,” “What About Brian”) and Gary Fleder (“October Road”).  Gary Fleder directed the pilot.

    cw moving smallville-epic fail
very surprised on this descion as it was a gd performer for the network where it was
now its going to fridays to make room for something else that may or may not succeed.
i swear the people running these netowrks are monkeies with a dartboard....

hey BOBO where we gonna put smallville?
(BoBo throws dart lands on friday)
good goin BoBo fridays it is...
  • ro
wow this is crazy the game is gone ..i think those new shows are gonna suck .. it was a bad idea to take off the game and privileged and to put smallville on fridays that really sucks... thanks alot cw
  • Mel
Never fear -- when Vampire Diaries tanks -- the CW will move Smallville back to Thursdays. If by some miracle, Vampire Diaries doesn't tank, then the CW may have increased their numbers on 2 nights. No matter what Smallville on Fridays will do better than this season's Friday line up did.
  • Mel
Have to say, I never watch the CW, I was looking forward to Body Politic and now it looks like it wasn't picked up. Oh well, back to NOT watching the CW!
  • Dan
Brandon - I do agree about ending Chris, but it sucks that the cancellation of that show means the end of comedies of the CW, the last of the UPN comedies, and the no more black comedies on the 5 broadcast networks. Actually a new series, Brothers is airing fridays on FOX so, that will make it only 1 black comedy on the networks. Reaper should have been treated better but again, it doesnt fit the demo. Dawn only wants series that apply to young women, like One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210, Melrose, America's Next Top Model Beautiful Life, and Vampire Diaries. Supernatural or Smallville don't fit the demo but still perform better than any other series, except ANTM. Smallville is gone after next year and potentially Supernatural. Also The CW slowly got rid of series that performed well but didnt fit the demo, like Friday Night Smackdown. Since The CW basically only cares about Monday-Wednesday, its safe to call it the MTW.
  • dawn and sam zell, do this right or goodbye 2010-2011 season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Bad Robot !
Golly gee, I guess that means JERICHO wont be back on CW Sundays. JERICHO fans are reportedly crying in their corn moonshine - all 48 of them over on the Universal HD board.
  • J.Norman
I wish the CW had kept Reba. Yes, Yes, Yes, I know that Reba did not meet the demographic that the CW wants to cater towards.
With that said, what exactly is the demo that the CW wants to find? It must be vacant chairs in the living rooms since that appears to be all they get.
I was hoping that Priveleged and Reaper got another season, but I can understand why it didn't. It was too important to cater to the incredibly shallow youth and put on Melrose Place, 90210, and ANTM. Oh well, if you don't expect much. . .then. . ..
With regards to Reaper. They kept putting it in the worst time periods they could find. Understandable if you have CW suit mentality. Why even try to promote a show with potential when you can put on an onslaught of pretentious drivel.
  • Jackson
I hope the CW comes to their senses and renews Reaper and air it after Smallville. That would be a good combo.

I know it's unlikely but maybe The CW will still renew Everybody Hates Chris or another network picks it up. It at least deserves a proper series finale.
  • Jack
Jesus, The CW's lineup just gets worse every season.
  • Zach
    No Reaper... :(

    That makes me very upset.
  • I actually think CW's schedule is very clean, they only have 9 shows in Primetime which 8 of them are scripted and 1 reality show that is their biggest hit.

Good for them they don't have a new reality show because its just gonna suck like Stylist and 13 - Fear is Real.

They only have 3 new shows for the fall even though they already cancelled 9 shows in the 2008-2009 tv season, they left Sunday for their affliates which lead to risk to move Smallville in Fridays to give away the thursday timeslot for 1 one of their new shows. I think its stupid for CW, Smallville is their #1 scripted show and they are moving it on friday. They could just abandon Friday and not Sunday because more people watch on Sundays than Friday and air Smallville and the encore of ANTM on that day (Sunday).

I think they're Thursday are going to be ok, One Tree Hill to save Monday and ANTM to save Wednesday. Gossip Girl and those other 3 girly shows will get 1-2 million viewers only per week.
  • pete
While I agree that Dawn is an idiot, and had pleanty of opportunities to keep CW as a network that people watched (Keep WWF on Fri who cares if you hate it its the top rated show for you network at the end of the week on a night you can't figure out, REBA could of been kept w/ some sort of 7th Heaven Spin off and had a descently rated Family friendly Sun. night, Aquaman would of been a success following Smallville, with those moves she would of had the eyeballs to reshape the network 2 years ago rather then imploding the network and starting over from scraps of old Fox shows, fingers crossed Party of 5 and Sliders will be back next year maybe even Millenium oh waite I forgot Models Inc.(side note might work if Tyra Banks gets involved)

Saying all that the only surprise in my mind was that Gossip Girl spin-off Lily didn't make it.

MON-While Mon. are still going to get crap ratings,

TUE-Melrose will start out strong and help out 90210 a little for a few weeks(especialy if Dawn is smart enouth to do a summer launch, don't worry she's not and it would cost to much for a network on the brink of going under)

WED- will of course do better its going against Model/90210 reruns.

Thur-like it or not Twilight is hot the books still sell so does the board game etc.(also you will get a few Supernatural/Moonlight/Angle/Buffy/Forever Knight fans) and Supernatural does OK in this time slot.

Fri-Smallville is the most expensive show on the net if combined w/ATM reruns in one night the budget is not as bad...this was their best choice...this will be the 2nd best choice for the mass Fri night viewer(after Ghost W.)ATM I dont understand why but the repeat usualy gets OK ratings...I would of picked up a revamped Terminator to go with it.
  • MPJ
DAN: This may not be Smallville's last year... check all the info. from the CW announcements today... lots to read between the lines ... in other words, there was a lot more than just moving the show to Friday to allow room for Vampire Diaries !
  • Alex
"I think percentage-wise CW may be down more, Alex. But I’m not positive about that."

I would guess you're right about that Julia but my main point was that chances are UPN and WB would both have dropped in this climate from where they were five years ago as well. The CW shouldn't be as low as it is but I'm not entirely sure its fair to expect it to be in the same place UPN and WB were five years ago when the broadcast model is slowly dying.
  • Jay
    Mz. B
Terrence (from 106 & Park) said he would pressure on BET execs to pick it up.
    Fingers crossed.
  • Mz. B
Goodbye CW...Dawn needs to step in the unemployment line!!! (just like you are putting others out of work.) I will never watch this network again!! You could have kept "The Game." BET, please pick up "The Game!!!"
  • Jon K
Are the trailers for the new CW shows up anywhere? I see them for all the networks except the CW.
  • Jessica
I knew Reaper would be canceled, I was surprised when they picked it up for mid season for this year in the first place. Its too bad that Reaper wasn't originally on another network (like fox) where it might have had a better chance at being promoted, watched and renewed. I thought the idea of the show was great and it was very funny at times. Oh well...
  • SLP
LAUNCHES IN THE FALL WITH RETURNING HITS

“GOSSIP GIRL,” “90210? AND “AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL,”

I think what people are saying that Smallville and Supernatural were buried in the press release is primarily the above statement at the beginning. They make it seem like those are the "hit" shows on the CW when technically by ratings Smallville and Supernatural get higher ratings than GG and 90210.

I know that the WB/UPN merger needed to happen for a 5th network to survive. I just miss the type of shows the WB had. I feel like if the CW was run with the same programming mind-frame the WB had in its early years, I would be watching the new shows they come up with.
  • Jay
"Conclusion : The CW committed suicide today."

Rivaldo, I couldn't agree with you more.
  • Boris
    Alex says:

"I have no idea where the idea of The CW trying to kill of Supernatural is coming from. Firstly its still in exactly the same timeslot, do Supernatural fans have such little faith in the show that they believe its entirely propped up by Smallville?"

Amen. I am a bit surprised they didn't at least try to leverage the Supernatural audience that doesn't care a fig about Smallville by moving it to the earlier slot, though.
  • Chuck fan
    Bring back the old WB!
  • I think percentage-wise CW may be down more, Alex. But I'm not positive about that.
  • Alex
It’s also worth pointing out that the general downward trend in broadcast will have played a part in The CW not matching the ratings at The WB or UPN. None of the networks are achieving the same figures they were five years ago, I’m not sure why The CW should be immune from that.
  • Mark
    CANT WAIT FOR FALL!
  • All these comments about CW remaining the WB don't realize that WB needed UPN more than UPN needed WB. At the time of the merger CBS was willing to continue to pay the bills at UPN, while WB was no longer willing to pay the bills at the WB. Without the merger we might very well have UPN only and no WB.
  • Nicole
CW was better left off as the WB... A lot of potential 5-10 years ago and then went downhill big time these past few years.. None of these shows would exist if they were on the network 5 years ago when "hit shows' were considered 4.5-7 million viewers on The WB Network.. CW is lucky to have a show average 4 million viewers on a good week. I will be checking out melrose place and give one tree hill another whirl since the two most boring people on the show left lucas and peyton. I watched some of the show reaper in season one but have failed to catch it this year.. CW should have paired smallville and reaper on friday night together rather than two opposite shows even though they are the highest rated shows on the network. I will also give a beautiful life a chance as well. Good luck to the CW because you are going to need it big time!!!!
  • I agree with a lot of the above comments: I only watched two CW shows: Reaper and Chris. Chris had lost its luster and it was the right decision to end the show after four seasons. Reaper, however, is a fantastic show and deserved better. Not only does the network air almost entirely junk, but you can't trust them to keep quality programs on the air. So, even if future shows look good (which, at the moment, they don't) I will not watch this network anymore.
  • Holly
Stephen, I think you can legitimately say a lot of things about The CW's treatment of Smallville and Supernatural, but they didn't really bury them in the press release. The shows are mentioned in the order they appear during the week. Since SPN and SV will air on Thursday and Friday repectively, it only makes sense that they would be near the bottom of the descriptions.
  • Jill
Yeah, whatever, Dawn. She said the same thing when the possibility of a sixth SPN season was presented - they would "consider" it if the numbers warranted one, but she also kept hastily mentioning that there was no need to think about that now. She's probably dancing in the streets that SV and SPN look like they're coming to a close - their numbers are too good to warrant cancelling them, but if they end on their own, she'll finally be free of these bastard stepchildren marring her precious 18-34 demographic. :P
  • Stephen
According to Dawn also at the upfronts she is "hoping" this isn't Smallville's last season. LOL. By moving it to Friday nights.
  • Stephen
Like how they bury Smallville and Supernatural in the press release. You would think those were the lowest rated shows on the network. Dawn is desperate for her teen girl idea to work but at what cost.
  • Dan
RJ - I doubt all 3 will fail. It's likely 1 will, but i'm sure out of confidence The CW will order additional episodes. Melrose Place, definitely wont be axed, and It seems The CW is confident on Vampire Diaries. If anything, after December if they axe a show then we'll see 90210 repeats, but its unlikely to be all over the schedule. The CW will definitely have lower expectations for there shows, but not too low.
  • Dan
Mike - same here after Chris and Reaper left, so did I. Although i did enjoy the Chris finale, although it looked as though i've seen it somewhere before..... and the series finale of Reaper airs next tuesday.

MPJ - This will be Smallville's final season. Meaning that the series isn't being moved to see how strong it is on another night, so renewal is considered. It was moved to get interest going in Fridays, since that night has been barren for The CW. It was also moved so that The CW can establish a new drama on Thursdays paired with Supernatural, so when Smallville does exit, The CW will have something for Thursdays. The Smallville move is nothing like the way Terminator was dumped on friday, that was to burn off episodes, because the series was failing.
  • RJ
So what is the CW going to do when two of those three fail? 90210 and Melrose Place repeats? Come on CW! You can't just order one midseason show. Idiots...
  • Nikole
Wow. Just wow. What a complete waste of air time. By the looks of things, it would seem to me that the execs at The CW don't want to work there anymore and picked up shows that would drive their network into the ground. I think the thing that baffles me is the complete lack of common sense. If your network is doing badly, you diversify to encourage new viewers...none of their new shows is going to do that. It's just a shame that there isn't a network out there that really caters to the 18-25 range. I watched the clips for VD, Body Politic, and Light Years (or whatever that crapshoot is called now) and Body Politic was fun with a lot of potential (just way too good for the CW, apparently, although it could have brought them a lot of new viewers I think). Vampire Diaries is going to tank. Completely. The clips I saw came across as a very, very poor ripoff of Twilight and considering how much I hate that series, it has to be pretty bad for me to say that.

Obviously the CW isn't really paying attention to viewers. Anywhere you go, people are saying they don't want the same old crap, and this is exactly what they've done. Not to mention that I haven't seen a single positive comment about their midseason pickup, yet everywhere you look people are asking about BP. Just doesn't make sense to me. It'll be amusing when it comes back to bite them.
  • MPJ
I suspect Smallvilles move to Friday is a way to find out exactly how strong the show actually is. When TSSC was moved to this night, it's so-called fans abandoned it in droves: even it one includes DVR and on-line viewership, it still
had remarkably poor numbers. Perhaps this is a way to determine if the series has enough strength to warrant yet another season, although, personally I think it has run its course - this season was uneven, at best.
Supernatural has as much length as they may wish to take it: there are numerous avenues open to pursue, should they wish. However, if they want to wrap it up this up-coming season, so be it.
I disagree that acquiring cast-offs, like Without A Trace, etc., is the way for the CW to go. It does, however, have some soul searching to do. If it wants to become a "player" on the network grid, falling back on old standbys and off-shoots isn't going to garner a lot of interest and/or respect. It has to develop or find quality shows that will have more appeal than what its current management seems to be focused on - just like the shows it has already canceled long before their time !!! Yes, I agree, Dawn is not up to the challenge and the sooner the network realizes it, the better.
  • Annie
A lot of the media is reporting that it was down to either Body Politic or Life Unexpected (or whatever the hell it's being called today) for the midseason spot, and they were still trying to decide as of Wednesday night which one it would be.

It might have been cost as a factor, too, but I think they just thought that the show about a teen girl and her real parents was more their brand than anything about 20-somethings and their careers in D.C.

I'm disappointed but at least now I don't have to watch anything on The CW.
  • j
Gossip Girl's first four episodes are probably the nadir of the show. It gives the impression that it's mostly about catty bitches who hate each other while pretending to be friends, as well as about pretty people in relationships that are boring and completely lacking in chemistry.

That's basically what the original book series was about. The show is so much more. Even critics agree; if you look at Metacritic, the jump in quality from that first episode to season two is reflected in a score in the 50's going to a score in the 70's - which is pretty high. 24, House, and Glee, among others, are in the 70's for this season.
  • AD
Gossip Girl was a funny show for the first 4 episodes, then became something orrible but i can say that 90210 is even worst a show where you can detox from cocaine in 3 days
  • Alex
cdn its possible that CW had hoped that Body Politic would be different from what the pilot actually was or perhaps they weren't happy with the future direction that was pitched to them. Its possible/probable that they wanted a show about twentysomethings, their lives and relationships that happened to be set within politics and the producers of the show intended to make a show about politics that happened to feature twentysomethings.
  • Holly
Anthony, That is definitely NOT what The CW wants to hear. They desperately want the teen girls and are trying to cater shows too them, not to adult men.
  • cdn
Disappointed about Body Politic. If the CW wasn't prepared to give it a fair chance then why bother producing the pilot?
  • Anthony
People need to stop bashing Gossip Girl if they don't watch it. It's an awesome show and some of the plots and jokes make me wonder why teenage girls would even like this show. I guess it shows that they tune out of this and into Secret Life. That show does suck and is definitely only for teenage girls.
  • mike
    Reaper gone, Chris gone...

Yep, it's official. I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in ANYTHING on the CW! Why not put Reaper on at 9 on Fridays?
  • jack67
It's good that this will be the final season of Supernatural because other shows are going to destroy its ratings. :(
  • God Particle
"Young people doing something positive, trying to make a difference, while being sexy and fun at the same time."

I have to say that is one of the most hilarious descriptions for a TV show I've heard in a long time. I haven't seen the pilot so I can't really say much about the show. I only watch one show on the CW and I'm not even remotely interested in whatever else they have to offer.
  • Alex
    A few random points

    1) I have no idea where the idea of The CW trying to kill of Supernatural is coming from. Firstly its still in exactly the same timeslot, do Supernatural fans have such little faith in the show that they believe its entirely propped up by Smallville? More to the point this is a show entering its fifth season, which its creator has said very publicly and numerous times will be its last.

    2) The idea of airing a repeat after Smallville isn’t a bad one, I think the idea of airing an America’s Next Top Model repeat after Smallville is a bad one though. If I were them I’d be tempted to put a repeat of Vampire Diaries after Smallville, just to try and build up the audience for it a little more. Or alternatively repeat another new show after Smallville and try and build that audience. Putting something new behind Smallville would be ideal but if they don’t have the shows and/or the money they don’t have the shows/money.

    3) I’m not sure why people are surprised that The CW didn’t pick up Body Politic, good show or not it never seemed like a good fit on the network and say whatever else you want about The CW they have created some sense of brand identity and all their new dramas absolutely fit that brand.

    4) Something to mull over regarding the future of The CW, Supernatural is scheduled to end next year and Smallville is once again apparently having its final season so where does the network stand after those shows end? It seems to me that those shows seem to be the main investment on Warner Brothers end at least, are they going to want to stick around when both of them wrap? Is a proposed Justice League show (which Dawn probably has zero interest in) enough to keep WB around? And are CBS with all their money woes going to keep their investment going? I would think Supernatural and Smallville wrapping would be the biggest indicator that the network is on its last legs.
  • Marco, sorry for the late response, it's just... my internet SUCKS!!!

When I said "I don't know anyone who cares" it was a bit vague, I suppose.. because - I care. I barely watch movies, I'm practically addicted to TV, so when I hear that a show that has potential and have a couple of my favorite actors (Dohring, Union) has a possibility to be on air every week, I get exited.

The 'larger point' that you talk about is certainly an issue, but if you take the CW ratings into account - there is still hope. :)

As far as Robert is concerned, I don't think that he, or anyone else, can change Dawn's mind by posting something on this site.
The women just needs to be fired... or lobotomized.
  • Royal H
Somehow I get the impression that Dawn Ostroff is slightly annoyed that Smallville and Supernatural outperfrom her pet shows. Aside from the new schedule, look at how the shows are presented in the press release: Gossip Girl, 90210, and ANTM are featured prominently, while SV and SN are only mentioned at the end. Oh, by the way we moved "fan favorite" (you can almost hear them say "God knows why") to Friday.

I don't think the pairing with Vampire Diaries is going to hurt Supernatural that bad. I don't believe that established shows catering to a younger audience need a lead-in as much. SN's demographic knows how to use their onscreen guide. I'm not going to watch or not watch a show because the network pairs it with something that doesn't appeal to me. If it drops next season, it will be more from competition with Fringe, which I imagine does appeal to some of the same viewers.

Smallville's move to Friday is a bigger concern. Many who do not have DVRs will be out of the house on Friday night. One would think that one of their other shows that appeal more to the 12-17 year old set would be a better fit here.
  • Dan
Here's my thought to how the shows might look in terms of cancellation and renewal.

Melrose Place - Definite full season renewal
Vampire Diaries - Likely full season renewal or additional episodes
Beautiful Life - Looks like the underdog of the year (Life is Wild & Privileged), but don't be surprised if this one gets additonal episodes too.

Its unlikely any of the series will be axed immediately.
  • paddylad
In the offical release for Melrose is says

"Sydney also played a pivotal role in the career of Auggie Kirkpatrick (Colin Egglesfield, “All My Children”). After they met at an AA meeting, she became Auggie’s sponsor and encouraged his dream to become a chef."

In the clip that the CW have released when talking about the body in the pool Auggie says he knew her, he met her at AA. Does anyone else think that the shocking first scene that has been reported is that fact that Syndey is the one dead in the pool? The scene we have seen with David and Sydney being a flash back scene to throw us off the scent. i hope no im only gnna be watching for Sydney
  • Paul PT
CW could move instead smallville to sundays at 8 and body politic at 9 if they don't leave this night.
  • j
Also, Marco does not perfectly represent my generation (if he's 18-34). Most of my friends don't look at ratings at all, or previews for pilots before they air. They just watch what they like, and watch new shows based on friends' recommendations...though often still not on a TV. So they don't even really care what network a show's on; it comes to them the same way (i.e. online), whether BSG or South Park or 24. Not that they necessarily represent my generation either, but not everyone looks devotedly at ratings like every day.
  • I’m gonna assume Gen Y/millenial

I prefer to be called an echo boomer.
  • j
Nick C, why did you have to be so right? And doesn't the CW see that scheduling an encore when you have only ten hours of TV to fill makes you look really low-rent?

However, I would disagree that no one watches in my generation. A lot of people in my house (all of whom are in Ostroff's demo...well, except one or two of us are not female) are obsessed with Gossip Girl but not a single one of us watches it on a TV. Or even on Hulu. Most of them don't really follow stuff about the show online, or even know anything about its ratings; they don't care about the buzz. They just like the show. I also know a lot of people who are addicted to Top Model even though they know it's trash. As for the rest of the CW shows, I don't think I know anyone who cares (I have seen a few episodes of Smallville and OTH before, and each of them only has one good character, played by the only good actor: Brooke Davis and Chloe Sullivan.). And I think the media constantly being obsessed with Gossip Girl as well as the show doing consistently well (even if it doesn't amount to much money, so the networks don't really care that much) online, shows there are people who have passion for the show. But, Ostroff, that's because we like the show, not because we always like pretty young people no matter what they're in. And most of the stuff about pretty young people on your network does not look good.

    Also, Mischa Barton sucks.
  • tammanycall
    @Nick C

I sincerely hope that's not their reasoning. Marco's generation (I'm gonna assume Gen Y/millenial) is one of the most politically active in decades. It far surpasses the Baby Boomers & the Gen Xers. And now that I think of it, that's probably what's coloring their decision - they're assuming "the kids" have the same preferences they have. But they'll come around soon enough. Advertisers have already picked up on the shift, so it won't be too long till networks do.

In other words, Marco, watch your back.

To the main topic of the post: Dawn's CW is a disaster and it either needs someone to come in and scrap everything and start from scratch or just scrap everything.
  • Winston
Obama should have done (or said) something to save at least one black comedy.
  • JS
I can't believe people are suggesting that Gossip Girl should've been canceled. How would that have made sense?
  • Riff Rafferty
Somebody call in the bomb squad...
  • Ferret
So glad to hear "P.D.A" has been picked up!! Shiri Appleby and Kerr Smith on the same network, let a lone the same show?!

Saddened "Body Politic" wasn't picked up. That seriously sucks. What an amazing cast it had. Hopefully they reconsider it for midseason.
  • Shem
Why do people have to get so personal with TELEVISION RATINGS? Anyway, On the CW; i will definitely be watching Friday Nights with Smallville. I will check MP out like i did with 90215678... Vampire Diaries also looks interesting.
  • Jed
I remember looney toones just fine. Always been a Marvin the Martian type guy, tho
  • Jed, you obviously don't remember your Looney Tunes. Michigan J. Frog is indestructible.
  • Rita
@ Alec : Sci fi fans should panic because Dawn will let VD fail big time and drag Supernatural with it. Then at midseason, she will say that SPN isn't working anymore and she will cancel it without warning. And Smallville will stay on Fridays and it will be canceled even if it has the nerve to pull better ratings than 90210, GG or Melrose.
  • Jed
    Ger--

    I think he croaked.
  • Gerry
Where is Michigan J. Frog when we need him?

Thankfully I have a number of episodes on tape of the WB shows
    a previous poster mentioned.
  • Jed
    Hey John,

While part of me agrees with you; we are presented with crappy shows, so we watch crappy shows, this really isn't the Chicken Before the Egg Theory. If there were some good shows, people would watch, and we would have a chain of negative comments on this page
  • Alec
Sci Fi fans don't panic, VD will be such a huge failure that it will be replaced by Smallville after 6 or 7 episodes top.
  • Rita
I can be put in jail if i wrote all the things i want to say to that devil named Dawn Ostroff.
  • Tim
Not sure what the heck they are thinking moving smallville to Friday's, your highest rated scripted show to Friday's...real smart. Oh, and maybe someone should tell them no one watches reruns of reality TV for christ sake. Smallville is actually planned to go through season 10 from what I hear, they signed welling to a 2 year contract...why did they give all that $ to Tom Welling just to F the show and send it to grave yard firday's ?? I guess they figured it was too popular to cancel, so they would need to kill it, instead of letting it go out with some class. I'm sure Dawn has been wanting to give it the axe for the last couple of years, but can't since it is the highest rated, (although most expensive) scripted show.

I hope SN's ratings hold up, but it could take a big hit, all depends on how the Vampire ripoff show does I suppose. They should have moved SN to the 8 pm with VD's at 9. After SN and Smallville are gone, I hope the CW will be too.
  • Marco, I have to disagree here. Your generation isn't watching the CW crap shows. No one is.

Robert, my understanding is that the CW passed on the show because they thought it was too political and their target wasn't interested in politics in their TV. It did score better than shows they picked up. PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED is the worst pilot I've seen picked up in ages. These decisions make sense because of who is making them.

I'm just happy she finally got what she wanted. Free reign for a season. The final season. Goodbye CW!
  • OpeningDayGuy09
Please just let TNT and TBS takeover The CW!
  • So is that it? Have all the networks had their up-fronts? (Or does MyNetwork and PAX - or whatever they call themselves these days, also do the up-front thing?)
  • ChuckSPNfan
Please Mrs Ostroff, take pills. A lot of them. You too Ben Silverman.

And STOP MESSING WITH SUPERNATURAL AND CHUCK !
  • Ndolger
Oh CW...I swore you off when you killed Veronica Mars and put Reaper in it's place. Now I've actually started watching Reaper this year...and now it's dead.

I'm done with you CW. Adios.
  • Lisa, Fringe loses audience because the first half hour is artificially inflated due to Idol overrun.
  • chet
    can anyone verify?
my undwerstanding is that the CW has been switching to brands it or its parent companies OWNS
    ie CBS/Warner

This might be why some shows arent picked up and others are etc
    less money to pass around

i hate they moved smallville to dead fridays
where im sure it will capture its 18-39 demographic...
    oh thats right
none of those people will be home...sigh
look for low ratings and strong DVR numbers
thankfully CW is more forgiving with low numbers as they are used to it
so hopefully not a death sentence or stay of execution
like i belive it is for other shows on other networks
looking at you DOLLHOUSE and CHUCK
too bad all shows i like...

does anyone know if i am correct on this?
if so is this a trend?

    thoughts anyone?
  • marco
And Robert, thanks for letting me vent.
  • Lisa
actually fringe needs a lead in to be alive, it lose viewers everytime in the second half hour, supernatural build its own audience in the second half hour. an example:
    House: 11.77-12.89 and lead in a Fringe episode 9.32-8.29;
Smallville: 3.44-3.96 and lead in a Supernatural episode 3.12-3.25
  • Larry
It's very simple : The CW is punishing Smallville and Supernatural for being more successful than Gossip Crap and 90210.
  • marco
Robert, I appreciate your last post. You are right. It's a business, first and foremost, and we probably do take it too seriously at times. That said, you have to admit that it wouldn't have been a bad business decision to go after the millions and millions of youth voters (most of whom don't watch the crap on the CW) with a show like Body Politic, when their biggest scripted hit gets something like 2 million viewers a week. And, oh yeah, more women vote than men. The show could have actually broken out for them, but they couldn't see that, or didn't know how to sell it, or didn't believe that "their audience" cared about politics. How fucking condescending is that???

That does matter. That's why I'm upset. That sucks.
  • Marco, really?! You're THAT upset over the CW? You think there is an evil conspiracy in the system that is out to get YOU and your generation? With like 100 other content options on television alone, you get that riled up over it? Really? I'm pretty sure you do not speak for your generation.

Fortunately the numbers will tell the tale, and the CW will not persist forever unless it actually gets people to WATCH their shows. That's what we track here. You have misplaced your axe by grinding it here. The bigger mystery is how CBS and Warner Bros let the CW get away with putting on shows hardly anyone watches. That IS a mystery and its one we continue to scratch are heads over. But for now, CBS and Warner Bros seem to be buying what Dawn is selling. That is certainly not my fault, not Bill's fault, and not any web site on the Internets fault.
  • Jon K
Jed, lack of original programming could be said about all the broadcast networks, but the problem isn't that the networks don't care, it's that the viewers don't care to watch original programming.
  • PaulStu
Nothing new here : Dawn is stupid, Dawn hates sci fi, Dawn hates shows she can't understand,...
  • Sammy
The only logical explanation is that Dawn is trying to kill Supernatural by promoting instead a fantasy show more consensual, completely dumb and totally compatible with Gossip Girl and 90210.

The WB did the same when Buffy started going dark and serious. They created Charmed and after a while, they killed Buffy.
  • marco
Alex, it's not that I care about the Body Politic per se. I don't. It was a good 30 minutes of my life. Nothing more. What I care about is the larger point. This network is pumping shit into my generation's collective brain. Maybe you could argue that all of Hollywood is, but the CW is aiming right at us. I guess we deserve some of the blame for watching this shit. But so do people like Robert who have a platform and choose not to use it to demand better, or worse, don't realize that it's shit in the first place.
  • Jed
Therein lies the problem. Lack of original programming, and they don't seem to care.
  • Maddy_s7
@Jon K : Supernatural is standing alone since it left tuesdays. Since season 2, the show is in the most difficult hour against very big shows. Add to that, no promotion, no money, no big guest-stars and no network support.
  • Jon K
Jill, but if Supernatural has as many fans as their internet fans claim (ie more than Gossip Girl and 90210), surely they'd still watch it even if Smallville isn't on before it.
  • Marco, I am far from a place where the CW could likely do anything that upset me (cancelling Supernatural would've upset me, but not to the point of typing something like "Robert, congratulations you and the CW think alike. You must be very proud. When you decided you wanted to be a writer is this what you aspired to be? How sad for you.

It's not just a CW thing. I know some people were bothered by the shows the CBS didn't pick up -- but it didn't bother me with CBS either.

That aside, *I* just really don't see this as a big deal. I mean, it's ZERO surprise they picked up Melrose and it's no surprise to me the picked up Vampire Diaries. And these pickups do not bother me. Were I running the network, I wouldn't focus on young women. I might target 18-34, but I'd try to do so more broadly (and Body Politic may well have fit in better with that approach). But I'm not running the network, and given who is, and the direction there are no surprises here.

If they could've found a way to fit Body Politic into the schedule, it wouldn't have bothered me at all. But they didn't. I don't know all of the reasons that went into that decision. If you choose to think "It's just because they are the CW and they suck!!", that's fine with me, and it's possibly correct. I lack the data to know.
  • Actually, Robert is right. I personally don't now anyone who cares about pilots (presentations)... they are invested in what is on air.

That being said, I'm still surprised that 'body politic' didn't get a chance. It seemed like an interesting little thing with a cast that can match every show that is currently on the network. I guess nobody should have expected that Dawn, of all people, would make a good decision. There is a first time for everything... but here, apparently not.
  • Jon K
OpeningDayGuy09, after repeating the same comment so times this week, you'd think you would have fixed the typos by now.
  • Jill
@Jon K - Fringe is on FOX and didn't need the Idol lead-in to be successful. Supernatural, unfortunately, does.
  • Travis
Yes, smallville certainly gives us the characters we love....with all the God-awful writing to make us wish we didn't.
  • OpeningDayGuy09
If The CW wanted to make a big impact and keep their network afloat for years to come then they should've picked up Without a Trace, The Unit and 11th Hour but they didn't because their in love with teenage girls.
  • Rivaldo
From all the comments, The CW killed Supernatural and Smallville.

90210 and Gossip Girl are already dead.

All the new shows will be DOA.

Conclusion : The CW committed suicide today.
  • Mumbo
This schedule will probably be a bigger success for the CW than this past season anyway.

Looks solid in that the-bar-is-incredibly-low CW sense.
  • Jon K
After one season people were calling for Fringe to stand on its own without the cushy Idol lead-in, and now Supernatural finally gets to stand alone after four seasons, and people complain about that too!
