Even in repeats, the CBS Monday line up can bring it, as it defeated the new ABC line up of The Bachelorette and the premiere of Here Come The Newlyweds.
ABC’s The Bachelorette was down 30% in the 18-49 demo from its premiere last Monday when it followed the Dancing With The Stars finale. The premiere of Here Come The Newlyweds fell 10% in the demo its second half hour, not a good sign.
The only other original scripted show last night, Medium, notched a 2.1 demo rating. Its NBC series finale is next week, then it moves to Friday at 9pm on CBS next fall.
Previous Monday overnight reports are available for comparison.

Shows are sorted by 18-49 rating in each time slot.
Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2009 The Nielsen Company.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Mondays will not be the same until 24 returns…TV stinks now…blah!
Way to go Medium! Show them NBC their idiots
I am glad ‘Medium’ did well. I am sure it will do even better at CBS.
I wonder if NBC is even going to air any commercials for the show during the week, or try to just kill it before it goes to CBS?
The preview for the finale (after alst night’s ep) looks amazing.
Any info on how “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ did on TLC? I would be quite interested to know, given the huge hype about the show’s premiere and given that last season’s finale was TLC’s highest rated program ever.
Alan, I will keep an eye out for a press release on J&K+8, but we won’t get our cable show data for Monday until next Tuesday.
I’m a bit ambivalent about these Medium numbers. They aren’t exactly stellar, particularly against a repeat of powerhouse CSI Miami and a reality show.
In order for Medium to survive on Friday’s CBS lineup, it needs to do better. Moonlight was axed because it tanked to low 7 (total) and 2+/-. Then again, on the other hand, Medium will face Dollhouse (easy pickings, if we consider the finale’s numbers) and fading Southland (out of similarly fading L&O).
I’m not surprised the new Bachelorette isn’t doing well. She’s terrible: foul-mouthed, not particularly attractive (inside or out), admittedly a skank (last night she said she’s not particularly interested in marriage as much as she is in making out with as many men on the show as possible), and absolutely no backstory of any interest. Plus, they’re trying to tweak the concept by adding elements of other reality shows like The Amazing Race and Fear Factor — and it isn’t working. A big let down from the last Bachelor.
At the conclusion of last night’s “Medium,” NBC ran an ad that said something like “After five seasons, next week: the Medium Finale. Allison DuBois may dream her final dream…ever.”
Someone who’s not obsessed with the show like me could easily think this was it, over and done with. Cutthroat business, this thing called television!
mwa, NBC held off on some of their 10pm season finales to try to help build an audience for Conan’s tonight show. Since the Medium finale is on the night of Conan’s premiere, I think they’ll promote it.
Susan, I think Medium may have a lower threshold for success than Moonlight due its syndication deal.
Did the WB pull the same crap with Buffy after 5X22 “The Gift”, before the show jumped to UPN?
*I meant to type “didn’t”
^They did. They released a picture of Buffy’s grave.

Could just be typical season finale builder … they might have said the same thing if the show was still coming back to the same network next year or canceled.
Although why waste the money promoting the season finale… do the numbers even matter to nbc anymore since the show is leaving te network.
leo, note Jon K’s point about the Conan premiere next Monday which I think is highly explanatory. I’d expect heavy Conan promotion all night during primetime next Monday on NBC.
NBC.com says “On the series finale on NBC” on the Medium page
2.7 and 9.2 million viewers? Two and a Half Men still rules Mondays…
I think ‘Medium’ will do much better on CBS. I predict it getting about 2 million more viewers and the demos staying about the same or a bit higher.
I am not worried about the move in the elast bit. It makes no sense for the show all of a sudden to get higher ratings than it has been on NBC, especially since it is the season finale and not REALLY the series finale.
The preview for the finale looked horribly ominous.
Dennis, actually Two and a Half men is down from last year (when it had 3.3 in the demo)
and The Bachelorette of course will be down without DWTS but is up from last year.
Alan, EW’s Hollywood insider have some numbers. Apparently J+K+8 more than doubled it’s viewership since the finale. Looks like the publicity mill still works….
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/05/jon-kate-plus-8.html
J+K+8 had over 9 million viewers according to hollywoodinsider!!!!
It is called ‘Media scandal’ that appears to be fake for emdia attention….all of this stuff happens the 2 weeks beore the season premiere???? Come on!
Personally, about Medium since I’m like the biggest fan of that show, I think it’ll do better on CBS, it’s where it always belonged in my opinion. And NBC is just saying ’series finale’ because it’s the last episode of the show on NBC. CBS will take it and it could go on for another five years! All I say is: Bring on the Medium! Bring on the Medium! Bring on the Medium!
I think Medium will do a little bit better on CBS friday …but honest to have almost the same rating of a CSI repeat …
Wow, if 9 million is true for Jon & Kate, TLC will be ecstatic.
What a shame that it takes a crumbling marriage and tabloid divorce rumors to get that type of ratings.
The Associated Press is saying 9.8 million for Jon & Kate Plus 8:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090526/ap_on_en_tv/us_tv_jon___kate_ratings_2
WOW!
Aren’t those 10 millions ashamed of what kind of crap are watching?
Jon & Kate apparently on TLC beat all network shows apparently. Anyone know the last weeknight that cable, especially a network like TLC, would have beaten all network programming?
And it also apparantly just absolutely dominated among Women 18-49.
I guess if you hype things enough, people do like watching real-life marriages break down before your very eyes. Kind of like a car crash, I guess.
I am ashamed of the parents exploiting their children like they are….just to make a buck of course!
i will give Mental a try on Fox toinght
i think its cool that the Bones repeat did better than the House repeat!
Everybody gets embarrassed by their home movies – at least these kids get a nice house out of it.
It’s good to watch Jon & Kate so you can know when you’re wife is going total ice queen on you during a kiddie birthday party.
Rumor has it that Jon & Kate are staging their problems in order to get people interested in their “reunion.”
I’m more upset that I stuck around to see Cake Boss – that’s the flip side of Ace of Cakes
I agree Corey.
One reality show about people who make cakes is already one too many.
Do we really need TWO reality shows about people who make cakes???? Is that what it has come to? Jay Leno on 5 nights a week and multiple reality shows about cakes?
God, TV is uncreative right now.
Wow at John and Kate. I mean, a reality show about a family beat all of the shows up there. That’s really awesome for TLC, but it’s not too amazing for that poor family. I could feel the anger surround me while I was watching, haha.
But almost 10 million viewers? Who would of expected that? These network shows should feel kind of ashamed, being beat by the Gossilins and repeats. Haha.
Hopefully more people tune into John and Kate. =D.
Of course Dumbass and Whore are staging the whole thing! The better the ratings are the more money they will get in their contracts. Even if they didn’t stage it the network sure did.
I agree with those who support the “it’s staged” position. OF COURSE it’s staged. Funny how this “stuff” comes out just in time for their new season. I actually used to watch this show (not regularly, but every once in a while) when it first came out because I thought it had some appeal seeing how a couple dealt with raising so many kids (all around the same age). But now it’s becoming evident it’s more about “show me the money” than anything else. But, that’s T.V.
Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder what every happened to that show where people were in a contest to eat really gross stuff (like a cow’s uterus, pig testicles, etc. – and see who could “down” the most stuff without ralphing)? I guess that’s off the air now, but really what has taken it’s place is the T.V. networks finding other ways to “pile s**t on our plates” and see if we’ll shovel it in. The sad part is that’s EXACTLY what we’re doing!! It’s just that now the s**t is disguised so that we won’t throw up, but actually ENJOY it!
I guess the bottom line for me is after one season – how much more can you show about a couple dealing with raising eight kids and still hold (or grow) fan interest? Sadly, you get one of them involved in a little (staged) hanky-panky. I say bring back the cow uterus and pig testicle eating contests. At least those shows were up front about what you were going to see when you turned them on. As for me, I’ll eat a jar of roaches before I watch the John and Kate +8 show again. It’s too bad that somehow they just couldn’t make a show about the kids and find a way to leave the parents out of it!!
NBC #1 with Datline NBC. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Am I the only one who has no idea who these John and Kate people are? Probably. And I’m probably the only one who doesn’t give a flying fig who they are either, huh?
I had no idea a show about newlyweds was on, either. Either I haven’t been watching much tv or there hasn’t been much awareness about the summer tv season starting already.
*eagerly looking forward to Leverage, though a tad bit concerned about where it will go this season considering that cliffhanger*
i dont know who Jhon and Kate are, looking foward to Burn Notice, The Closer, Saving Grace, Hung, True Blood, Dark Blue, that new one with Wil Smiths Wife, Leverage, and The Cleaner, and In Plain Sight to come back Sunday, and Royal Pains…
hate Reatily crap
I’m with you Chris…….with the exception of Big Brother……really looking forward to season 11 this July!
oh and forgot Rasining the bar haha
Shelly: Don’t worry about the Leverage cliff hanger. Breaking up and coming back together is what the team DOES! LOL! Remember episode one, and the penultimate episode, they broke up in both episodes. That’s part of the show’s charm – are these people who are total work alone types going to stay together?
I read somewhere that the team is moving from LA to Portland since California cops are down on them thanks to Jim Stirling in the penultimate episode.
I just find Portland a weird place to relocate to…But then if they are shooting in Vancouver, it makes some sense, since they can shuffle locations.
BTW, I’d just like to comment on Mark Sheppard, who I’m really starting to like as an actor. Despite being a fairly short guy, he plays the classic “heavy” character actor role really, really well,
He’s been a regular on TWO shows this season: playing Jim Stirling on Leverage and Ballard’s FBI nemesis on Dollhouse.
Classic line from the Leverage finale:
Stirling: “Course you know your entire plan depended on me being a self-serving, utter bastard.”
Nate: Yeah, that’s a stretch.
Mark Sheppard is an awesome guy.
Richard, I wasn’t worried about the team breaking up, I’m worried because they lost that awesome clubhouse of theirs, LOL! (I was hoping the new headquarters would be Hardison’s awesome Mc Hammer mansion that he bought, but I’m hearing rumors to the contrary).
Ditto on the Mark Sheppard love – he also appeared in a couple of episodes of Firefly, so my like of him is enhanced all the more.
I’m also worried about the show falling into a sophomore slump but I hope it doesn’t happen.
Shelly: Yes, they’ve lost the HQ, but I’m sure they can whip something up. They did it before. Their HQ pretty much depends on Hardison and he can whip another one up in a day, probably. They even kept the painting of “Nate’s ancestor”, you notice!
I’d say as long as they keep the existing writers, they should be OK. Dean Devlin has said he really likes his writers and they give him good scripts every episode, compared to most shows where he says you get a couple good scripts and the rest have to be beat on to be usable.
They spent season 1 developing Nate’s alcoholism, which presumably has been addressed by his getting revenge on his old boss. So next season we’ll probably see some movement on his relationship with Sophie – probably complicated by a possible improvement in his relations with his ex-wife, Maggie. I’d love to see Kari Matchett become a regular on the show, she was just excellent – and hot – in the last two episodes.
Was just watching a YouTube video clip of Mark at Starfury 3, the Serenity/Firefly con in England in 2006, along with Sean Maher and Jewel Staite and others. I also watched a clip on YouTube where he’s watching a video game, talking about how he’s mostly a Xbox player but he also has a Wii. So he’s a video-game buff, like a lot of sci-fi actors. Seems like a pretty cool guy for someone who plays “self-serving utter bastards” for a living.
The painting was great. Aldis Hodge is an artist in real life so some were speculating that he really did paint that painting (probably not). I liked the ex-wife but I’m tired of love triangles so I hope they find a better way to deal with that storyline.
Re: the Bachelorette’s ratings – I’m not watching it, but unless I’m not remembering correctly, I don’t think the Bachelorette seasons have ever rated as highly as the Bachelor ones.
Are there no Cable Top 20 today???
Richard S. Hack – you are beautiful, like I used to be, before the hydrochloric acid was thrown in my face by a jealous memeber of parlaiment who questioned my right to party. Whatever that meant, have you ever heard of Edie Brickell?
I think Medium will do well following Ghost Whisperer on Fridays. My only problem is that I have four shows that I watch Fridays at 9 now … Ugly Betty, Dollhouse, Southland, and now Medium – Thank god for Hulu.com!
Tanner, all weekly data has been delayed by yesterday’s holiday, likely until Wednesday.
Jay: Nope – and viewing her Wikipedia entry, don’t know why I would.
Rick Holy: I believe the show with the unusual buffet of delicacies was Fear Factor. I watched it a few times but was not a regular viewer — and I went off to do dishes or some other housework chore when they got to the buffet offerings.
I love to see those Medium numbers! They’re not great for most networks, but for NBC, that’s pretty darn good! Especially after the way Ben Silverman slammed its ratings perfoemance last week. For it to come back and have an outing like that is sah-weet! I hope Ben Silverman is eating his heart out right now. I think the CBS move is best thing that could have happened to Medium, and it is long overdue. Can’t wait to see it on a network that will actually treat it properly.
@Travis L: “Personally, about Medium since I’m like the biggest fan of that show,”
I’ll take that challenge, lol! I’ll bet I could beat you for the title!
Oh, and since we’re talking about Mark Sheppard, let me just throw my two cents in. I LOVE him! He’s one of the most underrated actors working today. He was great on the Bionic Woman (as shortlived as it was!), but my favorite performance of his was as Dr. Charles Walker on Medium!!
The best bad guy ever on that show!! I wish they could bring him back again, but since Allison sorta banished him, I doubt it’ll happen.
Didn’t we were told many times here that what really counts are demo numbers and those aren’t that great and below NBC avg. There was also pretty much no competition – either a repeats or weak showings of reality programming. So what is this all of sudden “NBC is stoopid for letting Medium go while it’s doing SO great”.
Here Comes the Newlyweds is in danger! but its Summer so ABC might renew it so as The Bachelorette.
NBC is really stupid for cancelling Medium, it has better demo numbers than most of their shows and has more viewer count than Heroes, Chuck, Friday Night Lights and Southland.
Why would NBC be regretting losing Medium? Those demo numbers are quite poor even by NBC’s standards… Medium’s only above average result is in total viewers but isn’t that number supposed to be meaningless?
