The episode of Surviving Suburbia was the best one and likely the pilot given the plot while the episode ABC actually showed first was horrid. They really messed up as the show had potential. When it was good, it was quite funny. I hope we someday get to see the unaired episodes as I liked the show.

Well, I watched Wipe Out, Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia.

I don’t really like Wipe Out, It’s really sad what people will do for money in this day and time.

As for Goode Family it only had like 1 key line that caught a smile from me and that was “Sorry dad I used so much gas”, “It’s okay son as long as you feel guilty about it”.. Not that I’m one of those who tries to save gas constantly, I don’t really believe we should feel guilty for living and driving to places we enjoy.

And as for Surviving Suburbia I think Goode Family cursed it. It had like 9-10 million viewers and BAM being right after Goode Family it plummeted to it’s death. And what the heck was up with its storyline? It felt like that episode should’ve been the pilot? It was really weird how they put it together. That couldn’ve cause the flop I suppose. The first few episodes had no potential what so ever, but This episode actually had something to it. And they screw it up by messing with the storyline. Oh well. RIP

Shouldn’t the Law & Order CI episodes airing on NBC have an (R) next to them? Every episode that I have seen so far this season on NBC, has been previously aired on the USA Network on Sunday Nights. Sure, they may not have aired on NBC before, but does that really make those episodes new programming?

I agree with johnthemon. I’m conservative and it’s good to see a show make fun of the left. I still like American Dad better and that show mainly makes fun of the right. It is tough to judge this show after just one episode. I doubt it will last very long.

I guess I’m among the minority who liked the Goode Family. Too bad it won’t be back next summer. It was high time for somebody to poke fun at the left, instead of the right, because any show that takes a political stance these days goes for the right. I like American Dad, despite it’s left-leaning agenda, but this is a good counterbalance.

However slightly open ABC might have left the door to “Surviving Suburbia,” rest assured they just shut it nice and tight.

Speaking of that one, I felt like giving it another chance, but I only had it on as background noise last night, so I might be mistaken, but was that the pilot? It was written by Kevin Abbott. I noticed Bob Saget and Cynthia Stevenson met Dan Cortese for the first time. You know, Dan Cortese… who they already knew in the first episode ABC aired. (Note to ABC: if you’re going air shows in some random order suggesting you haven’t even bothered to watch the thing, it might help to, I don’t know, put your best foot forward? The first 2 episodes you put on were absolutely awful. This one was at least bearable. Otherwise, viewers might think you’re deliberately trying to sabotage it.)

you can have some political elements involved like American Dad, but not too much and that is why the Goode Family failed. Nowadays if a show has a strong political theme, then put it on cable news programs where it’s everywhere and not primetime broadcast.

“So You Think…”: we enjoy it a lot — a little worried for the fall against stronger competition…especially for Thursdays…but it’s entertaining for the summer – I have to say I would be watching “Wipeout” if “…You Can Dance” wasn’t on…but I’m not going to add Taped TV hours to my schedule – b/c I’m remodeling the house over the summer – sooo I’m good…everything else looks like crap – although I may cave in and check out Conan this Monday nite on the Network that…I’m sorry I can’t keep a straight face and type NBC & Network in the same sentence…hahahahaha

I disliked The Goode Family for the same reason I dislike KOTH. I hate watching characters run headfirst into uncomfortable situations. Same deal with Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office.

I guess that’s just where comedy is headed these days.

Really? Goode couldn’t even get half the ratings of…Wipeout?

Also, wow at So You Think, managing a 4 in both demos in that last half-hour. I don’t remember what is ratings have been like before, but wow. It should do solidly in the fall. Wednesdays at 8 still look weak. Though the reality smorgasbord of Tuesdays (along with counterprogramming of spinoffs and spinoffs of spinoffs) will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

@Josh, you raise some valid points. I do think the show, much like KOTH, is a great concept. Satire can be done without a mean spirit; Mike Judge and company usually rise to the task. The general concept of either show (KOTH or Goode):
1) Neurotic Mom who feels the need to be right about everything
2) Well-meaning, average-guy Dad who’s just trying to do right by his family
3) Girl who is a source of constant worry and overprotective nature in Dad, while a source of frustration for Mom. In KOTH, this was LuAnn. Here, it’s daughter Bliss.
4) Son who is a sweet, comedically odd kid (Bobby and Ubuntu).
5) People who are even crazier than the Hill/Goode family, making them look normal by comparsion.

Here’s hoping the Goode Family works out its glitches to become as smooth a satire as KOTH is, but from the opposite side of the cultural spectrum.

I liked The Goode Family. A good mix of a unique premise that puts a spin on good old-fashioned sitcom premises. It manages to make fun of both sides and makes what should be an unlikeable cast of characters pretty likable. In a way, it’s a lot like King of the Hill.

A shame the ratings weren’t that good.
