The finale of Law & Order:SVU topped the night with a 3.5 demo rating and  (and I believe the following has never been written on our site except during the Olympics) lead NBC to victory for the fourth night in a row.

NBC’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here fell 19% from its premiere on Monday to a 2.2 18-49 demo rating (comparing just the 8pm hour it was down 7%). Question is, how much further does it have to fall?  The Inside the Obama White House special drew a 2.6 demo rating.

Fox’s Mental fell 24% in the 18-49 demo from its premiere last week. CW’s Hitched or Ditched was up 0.2 ratings points (28%) in the adults 18-34 demo vs. last week. It also did a 1.1 rating for women 18-34, for a cheap summer reality show, the CW is likely happy.

You can see TV ratings from past Tuesday overnight reports here.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Were the previous three days a fluke too?
  • Brian D
The fact that NBC actually won for once is a shock as it's probably a fluke.
  • jay
From the few times I've checked NCIS and Mentalist repeats do smashingly well in total households compared to most other shows so far this summer. As for ABC being the next CW, not as long as DH and GA are one and two by a mile in scripted shows in the 18-49 demo. As for politics, if anyone has any idea as to Messrs Gorman and Seidman's politics except for the fact their times posting are Pacific Standard time ( and I know at least one of them lives in the Bay Area,) its not because they haven't done a good job of keeping their political views off a site which is after all, only very tangentially related to them. I think I remember a year or so ago when so many people were using the comment section on the cable news report here to dole out diatribes against Republicans or Democrats. Comments about ratings were either nonexistent or just an excuse to go into why Nancy Pelosi or George Bush is a expletive deleted. There are hundreds at least of such political blogs and I see no reason why this site should duplicate their efforts. Hence, they understandably altered that one small part of the site.

^There's no way American Idol will move from FOX.
  • Igor
ABC may be the next CW network. Many will think that that is NBC job but I see prospect for NBC it still have good prospects for lunching new shows. ABC has done disastrous job this year. And the ratings today just conform that. The reality shows on ABC will not last much longer, because after all then are reality and sooner or later it will be seen all that can be seen from them. The ratings today are a disaster for ABC even a shame.
By the way NBC may take over The X Factor after Simon Cowell deal expires, so the next American Idol may shift from FOX to NBC.
  • jon
If NBC's streak continues tonight it will surely end tomorrow when ABC airs game one of the MAGIC LAKERS nba finals.
  • John
The CW was preempted on Tuesday in Chicago by Cubs baseball.
  • Scott
I personally enjoyed the finale of "According to Jim" and was very pleased to see that a funny, and for the most part clean, family comedy could last for eight seasons.

Ahhh....well I guess that makes more sense, especially considering we're only 1/10th of the US in population ;)

(and surprising that France is #5 - I guess the french really love their Chuck! lol)
  • Anonymous, Google is everywhere, but Trends tracks searches, not visits.

Here's the top 5 countries by site visits list, from our Google Analytics that is as accurate as we can get (visits over the past 30 days):

    United States 740,363
    Canada 58,690
    United Kingdom 37,457
    Australia 15,639
    France 14,365

This is really random, but I didn't know TVBTN had more Canadian visitors than American? Neat-o! (although half the visits probably come from me hhahaha)

Hmmm - Daniel, or anyone else - do you remember 10.5? Turned On? Manimal? My Mother, The Car?
  • Paul, sorry, but a long history of problem comments (and time required by us to moderate them) on anything having to do with cable news has lead us to keep commenting off on them. I did forget the standard text we put in those posts though, I will add it to reduce confusion.
  • daniel
that earth 2100 was one of the worst things i had seen on a network
  • Paul
I'm sorry this is off this topic, but I think it's really weak of you to close the comments section of your story on CNN's ratings, throwing up a lame, "Your guess is as good as mine," as to their ratings woes -- and then denying readers the chance to tell you EXACTLY why CNN is in the toilet.

Sorry those views clash with your own personal politics, but when politics interfer and influence programming, ratings ARE impacted, for better or worse.
  • Riff Rafferty
Bill, it's good to hear I didn't choke, like Jim Belushi did last night. I realize no one will actually get that because no one actually watches "According to Jim." See, Jim choked on a piece of candy and then he went up to heaven but Lee Majors wouldn't... ah, forget it, I'm choking just thinking about it.
  • RG, We're going with no Univision shows in the show tables for the summer. Not worth the time. And Telemundo pulled numbers last night about equal to the CW, but they're definitely not worth our time in terms of reader interest.

    Riff, comment thread win. ;)
  • Christopher
    taped SVU
  • Riff Rafferty
Is no one going to comment on the last-ever episode of "According to Jim?" R.I.P. "Jim," the underrated comedy that was taken from the world way too soon. It's sad that network executives have no patience anymore. They never even gave it a chance.
  • Christopher
i whached Law and Oder re runs on Tnt than Recuse me and t
  • R.G.
Uh...why is Univision 3rd on the Scoreboard -but not in the listings of the shows posted above...and is Telemundo considered network competition YET?
  • R.G.
Mental should go up against Mentalist...then both should do spin offs...

    CSI:Mentalist & House:The Mentals
  • CP
I'm disappointed in Mental's number. I actually enjoyed the show last night.
  • evah
Can't see me watching repeats of "The Mentalist"....too boring first time around.

I'm ejoying MENTAL & hate that it fell in the demos...much better Writers.
  • Lourdes
How can Mental be like House? Are you blind? It's absolutely ridiculous. Oh wait, now I see how Gallagher is a lot like House: Sarcastic, sleeping around with the women from the staff, not caring at all about the human kind and not even have a decent normal conversation with someone.
    There are the similarities.
And yes, Eleventh Hour should get picked up by another network. CBS made a mistake (and cancelling WaT too). At least some other network would give it the publicity it needs.
  • R.G.
Another question...If Without A Trace is cancelled...then why in the crap is CBS promoting it every night with the whole "Around Every Corner" promos?

    Or am I missing something...???
  • R.G.
Boring TV...Although I have become a fan of Law & Order SVU in syndication it was rare that nothing else was on - so I watched the stand alone finale...so NBC has one show I like but - only caught it b/c it was new in JUNE!?

I watched the Pelican Brief on DVD until SVU came on...everything else last night was l-a-m-e and for crying out loud how many specials and reports has Obama had since in office...is this an election year already???!!!???
  • Jeff G
Note to NBC execs. Schedule a sports event or follow the President around every single day. Then you will be the ratings winner. And, by the way, schedule a season finale when all others are in repeats. Maybe then you can earn your keep.
  • Christopher
i tired to like Mental again but its to much like house
  • Sean
I was wrong...I said NBC was dumb to not put on the Stanley Cup Finals this week to boost Conan. But Law & Order did way better than I thought it would. The Obama thing had the same demos has the NHL did but far more total viewers.

NBC is going to get at least one more hockey game.
  • RJ
"(and I believe the following has never been written on our site except during the Olympics) lead NBC to victory for the fourth night in a row."

    Haha! :D
  • clutz
I'm sure you'll do this without my prompting anyway, but here's a friendly request to please last night's Stanley Cup Final ratings at your convenience. Thanks :)
  • Polar opposites last night: The NBC Obama special is what TV should be doing more of, and that ABC Earth 2100 is what TV should be doing less of.

Unfortunately, I missed the first part of the NBC show, and wished I had seen all of it. I tuned into the ABC show for about 20 seconds and my first thought was, "Is this on a NETWORK?" It's almost as though they put a bunch of cats and dogs in charge of the network for a day.
  • Carmen
The competition is so weak right now that I bet a network could put on "The best of Billy Mays infomercials" and it would get a 2.1 (18-49), a 1.8 (18-34) and a P+2 total viewership of 6.5M.
  • Derrick
NBC need viewers, that is a way to get them. Eleventh Hour did better than every show on NBC but 2 last season.

I just saw the previews for ABC's new shows. the only show i have ever watched on ABC was dirty sexy money, but looking at next season i will have to watch ABC
  • djm
"im glad NBC is finally winning, maybe they should pick up Eleventh Hour"
what the heck are you smoking?
  • Chet.

No problem! For sure I meant RE-SIGN. As in bring them back lol. NBC is in enough trouble, they can't afford losing them.
  • NBC is really nailing the Summer primetime it says something about the network but its their only time of like being in the 1st, every day of the week.

Shame about the ABC's special Earth 2100. Everybody here is dead when the year comes.
  • Jon K
New episodes of scripted shows, reruns, reality tv and news specials - there was something for everyone last night!
  • Alan
    Sorry. I'll slink away now.
  • Derrick
I loved L&O SVU, it was predictible but still great.

im glad NBC is finally winning, maybe they should pick up Eleventh Hour
  • that is indeed far off topic (since it aired Monday night) not Tuesday night, plus we have that information on our site already (and before Entertainment Weekly had it!).
  • Alan
I know it's OT, but Entertainment weekly says that Monday night's Jon & Kate Plus Eight scored about 5.5 million viewers. Down from the 10 million last week, but still pretty healthy for basic cable on a Monday, beating several networks.
  • chet
    ahh another troll griefer
id comment but whatever you wrote i think is gone terry
    nice language

btw adam dont mean to be english poice seems your statement can go either way..
  • UH
Wow Terry you are increasing the 12-13 demo of this site , Robert an Bill should be happy
  • Alex
NBC win again? This is just getting scary now!
  • JT
    Summer ratings are pathetic.
  • UH
Definitively better to cancel that post Robert :)
  • rob
    bad robot:
maybe earth 2100 cost $2100 to make.
  • UH
Ah OK Robert ...this is more clear

Terry ...I guess is something related to someone mother and it cannot be translated uh ?
  • chet
adam i am hoping you didnt say that correctly
you mean re-sign as give them another season
or resign as give up on them?
  • the128boy
Cool, I am also at a loss. I think they will regret that in hindsight. I understand wanting to inject new blood on Thursdays, but if anything, Mentalist should have taken over at 9 and CSI moved to 10. The potential *slight* bump in ratings from the new Thursday lineup I feel is not worth the block they broke up on Tuesday to create it.
  • NBC should be counting their lucky stars. 4 nights in a row! By the way, if this isn't incentive to resign their top SVU stars, I don't know what is!

By the way, great to see the ratings fall for "I'm a celeb". It was the most painful hour of TV ever.
  • UH, though I can't forecast how it impacts viewing of repeats, there are some unique things with the "syndication" of HOUSE, and I imagine it results in lower costs for FOX in its licensing fees of House. I'm pretty sure NBC Uni has ALREADY aired all the most recent season of House at least once on USA Network (the finale of the most recent season ran on USA within a few weeks of running on FOX).

Rebroadcasts of this past season of NCIS will not be available on USA until (I'm guessing) late September.
  • cool
Again, why did CBS change the block NCIS/The Mentalist? ugh!
  • MB
The Obama special really was well done, I encourage anyone to watch the second half this evening.
  • chet
i dunno but ill tell you
im watching the peacock less and less these days
all networks for sure but even more so NBC
This is summer time for all the reality shows to hit\
So i will be watching even less than normal
gd things some cable shows are getting started to ease my summer blues
  • UH
Interesting to see the repeat of a "panzer" like House so weak compared to NCIS repeat...
  • the128boy
Is all this Heidi/Spencer quitting/not-quitting perhaps a ploy to boost ratings near the premiere and try to hook more viewers? I wouldn't be surprised even a little if this was all part of the plan. In fact, I think that's more likely than it all of this drama being real.
  • Bad Robot !
In flipping through channels during hockey lst night, I stumbled onto that Earth 2100 show on ABC- the last time I saw such a horrifying spectacle on TV was when Cartoon Newtwork aired the worst cartoon ever ASSY MCGEE, Tom Goes to the Mayor would be a close 2nd. How much did it cost to make that? 10 grand? It was nothing but still cartoon frames with some woman who sounded like she was strung out on crack droning on about how we are all doomed.
  • JoCor
In must be the Conan steam, heating things back up on NBC.

Otherwise -- it's all still crap.
  • Bad Robot !
I heard Spencer and his creepy flesh colored beard wants to back on IACGMOOH after he and Heidi "Fleiss" quit.
  • no spirited grammarian debate on lead vs. led in the headline. Disappointing.
  • Chief, you have me wondering. Troll or intoxicated? ;)
  • Chief
This summer will be forever known as the summer where it all changed for NBC and they roared back to the front of the pack for years to come.
  • UH, I think it's too complicated to draw conclusions based on the limited data so far. Remember that nightly "wins" themselves are just PR boasting. What really matters is how much money you take to the bank from the line up you put on the air.

Does the fact that NBC scored a 2.7 demo rating last night with their new shows mean they were more profitable than CBS at a 2.1 with all repeats? Impossible for me to answer that question.
  • the128boy
I'm a Celebrity is certainly doing well enough so far. Even the dip last night was good enough for first in the hour against the well-repeating NCIS.

As stated above, it truely is a matter of how far it still has to drop. Good thing it's only a short season. If it can maintain anything above a 1.6, it will probably be considered a success for a summer NBC show.
  • Casey Abell
Viewership for the broadcasters continues to shrivel. Just a little over 30 million (considering Mynet and Ion and Univision and whatnot). The cable nets are cleaning up as millions of viewers look elsewhere.

Okay, a few viewers are heading for the beach or the park. But most are just rummaging through all those other networks that, once upon a time, the broadcasters never had to worry about.
  • UH
Bill , do you think this result form NBC confirm the idea from BS to have new contents and not only repeats also in the summer? Do you think these ratings justify the airing of "expensive" scripted shows also in the "low season" ?
  • djm, pull what all summer, nightly wins? No chance.

NBC's string of 4 nightly wins contains 2 NHL Stanley Cup Final games and season finales that were held over into summer to boost Conan ratings. None of that is continuing through the summer (except for 2 potential NHL games next week).
  • Raphael, fair enough, I compared the average from Monday, but I will add the hour comparison as well for a bit more info.
  • djm
    wow. mental got whipped.
Think NBC could pull this all summer?
  • HogWash
I watched inside the Obama White House last night and thought it was great. Anyone who missed it should really watch it online because it was great programming.
  • English teachers, the first line has been clarified.
  • Dario
You wrote the first sentence wrong! This is how it should be :
The finale of Law & Order:SVU topped the night with a 3.5 demo rating and lead NBC to victory for the fourth night in a row.(and I believe this has never been written on our site except during the Olympics).
  • Raphael
Just one little suggestion: will it be fairer to compare the rating of the same hour (of "I’m A Celebrity…), 8-9 vs. 8-9, instead of 8-9 vs. 8-10? If you look the same hour comparison, the drop is not bad.
  • rob, you mean the Super Bowl that was 4 nights long?
  • Matt
That Law and Order SVU finale was one of the worst L&O shows I've ever seen. Ridiculously scripted, horribly acted....the denouement was like something out of a bad daytime soap opera. Oy. I think that might've put the final nail in my SVU-viewing-days coffin.
  • rob
"The finale of Law & Order:SVU topped the night with a 3.5 demo rating and lead NBC to victory (and I believe this has never been written on our site except during the Olympics."

    Remember the super bowl ?
  • Dawn
Funny how NBC can only win the night (much less four in a row) when everyone else is in repeats or they have special programming. Gasp! Imagine that!
