Please note, these numbers are preliminary and that due to the nature of how live events are measured, the numbers for last night’s Lakers/Magic game are even more subject to change than normal. Also note that these numbers measure the prime-time portion of the game only and on the east coast the game ran past 11pm and even the preliminary numbers have not been time-zone adjusted for the game.
Update: in the final numbers, the game averaged 16 million viewers and a 6.4 adults 18-49 rating between 9:02p-12:23a
ABC easily won the night with game four of the NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic, where Dwight Howard couldn’t sink even one out of two critical free throws and the Lakers ultimately won in overtime.
Fox came in second on the strength of the So You Think You Can Dance results show.

You can see TV ratings from past Thursday overnight reports here.
Shows are sorted from highest 18-49 rating to lowest in each time slot.
Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2009 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Watched the Supernatural repeat.
Sorry this is a little off topic – but are you guys not posting the cable news ratings anymore?
Jimmy Kimmel Live 3.2/11 3.1/2
that can’t be right
IACGMOOH is a cheap show, i’m betting it will return next summer, hopefully with real celebrities:-)
What we need are the Conan/Letterman numbers
I’m a Celebrity… is horribly in both quality and ratings. In other words, it falls right in line with NBC’s programing standards.
I’d bet that the only reason NBC has dedicated such a huge chunk of airtime to this clunker is to prepare people for Leno. As mediocre as Leno is, he’ll seem like a breath of fresh air compared to this show.
Letterman beat Conan quite handily
In late-night metered market ratings, CBS’s “Letterman” (3.5/8) took the the top spot, defeating ABC’s “Nightline” (2.8/8) and NBC’s “Conan” (3.0/7). Rounding out the night then were “Kimmel” (1.7/7) on ABC “Ferguson” (1.6/5) on CBS and “Fallon” (1.5/5) and “Daly” (0.9/4) on NBC.
(Conan’s show was awful last night – so boring)

its always a pleasure watch a repeat of SUPERNATURAL! did i see an improvement of the show in the 18-34/18-49 from smallville??
can someone tell me when dawn ostroff has been nominated president on the cw, and when she leaves her job?
Anon: 1.) it’s not that we’re not posting the cable news data anymore, it’s been that we’ve been receiving it a format that is not usable for us. We are working on the issue and I’m not yet sure how it will resolve. 2.) according to NBC, Conan still looks poised to win last night’s numbers where it matters — with 18-49 year olds. NBC sampled 21 of its markets that they think lead to a good projection of the finals, and there Conan was ahead 1.5 to .9. There’s a post about it elsewhere on the site now, but I only just now got it posted.
Kimmel should put together a better primetime show since it’s getting a lot of exposure in that timeslot. The last two have been really boring.
Robert: Thanks, I figured it was still the formatting issue. Hopefully you guys will be able to work something out soon.
Dennis, the Jimmy Kimmel numbers for 8pm-8:30 are correct at least based on the fast national reports we have access to. how much they will change in the final numbers, I can’t say.
Those Mentalist numbers are off from Tuesday repeats…hope CBS doesn’t end up regretting moving it to the post-CSI timeslot
So You Think You Can Dance held its own against the NBA Finals again, I suppose you can argue that’s a good sign for its jump to the Fall.
FYI, there were quite a few politically themed comments in this post which I have removed as they were inappropriate here. But, I also might have accidentally deleted a couple of other comments that were appropriate in the process. If so, I apologize.
Hi Robert,
Do you think NBC are happy with I’m a Celebrity numbers?
I cant believe the Listener did so horrible!!! NBC is stupid for putting repeats in front of a neew episode. NBC is just plain stupid, with the IACGMOOH on four nights a week and the jay leno show in the fall. The network will never be number 1 again.
Sean, my guess is that so far NBC is probably very content with the results. Not ecstatic, but content. They have a bunch of hours of programming that were really cheap (and likely made even cheaper since MTV is rebroadcasting them) and through the first 7 airings on NBC it had more than a 2.0 rating.
Im thinking the same as you. they must be content but it would have been nice if it was getting over a 2.0 for each ep. so do u think they will go with it next summer?
i havent seen an entire episode and dont plan on doing so. i think the UK is slightly better.
NBC is so stupid man. Why did they put the listener until 10 pm and up against the Mentalist, plus they are showing a bunch of stupid reruns. I am sure it can do way better in another time slot.
Could NBC executives be even more content considering The Listener’s audience grew for the second half hour?
Looks like the Magic/Lakers matchup is holding up well, ( and of course we’ll never know how a Cav/Lakers matchup would have done.) BTW, if I was Kimmel’s agent in Jeremy Piven mode, I’d say, look here, fellas, Jimmy’s put in the time. Paired with whatshisnose on the Man Show? Dating Sarah Silverman? Now sentenced to late late purgatory! How bout an hour a week to do a Rome is Burning, Best Sports Show Ever style gig at ten against old lantern jaw Leno? Grab a little 18-35 and 18-49 male meat? Huh? Huh? How bout it?? … Isn’t that how agents talk? Mr. Kimmel, you can thank me with an autographed glamor pic … of Sarah.
I just found out that So You Think You Can Dance increased from the equivalent airing last year. Nice.
I think regular tv programs stink that why i watch cable.
