Their few remaining fans bid adieu to both Harper’s Island and Eli Stone on Saturday night. Emphasis on few.
Kings has even fewer fans, but will continue till it’s finished, NBC obviously having decided that dead air is an even more glaring admission of failure. Oh yeah, Fox reality crime beat them all to win the night with an overall 1.3 in the 18-49 demo.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Harpers island’S final 30 minutes averaged 4.2 million and a 1.0 18-49, the finale wasn’t what i was expecting but it was better than no closure at all, so i’m happy CBS let it finish it’s run, also the official series trailer shows bits that never happened, i wish there was another season with a new mystery cos tbh the writers where a bit shakey at the beginning but the series for me and others became must see tv and it was a great thrilling ride and i’d reccomend it to anyone.
Kings had a good episode the harper’s finale sucked
I have to give points to CBS for trying something different with Harper’s Island and airing its whole 13-episode run, even if they had to move it to Saturday to do it. And while HI definitely didn’t get good ratings, it did actually hold on to its viewers (and demo) for its entire Saturday run. Unfortunately it did bad enough that I don’t see CBS (or any other net) jumping at the chance for a similar 13-episode series anytime soon.
Irony:
There were more people in the cast of “harpers island” than the # of people that actually watched the show.
HARPER’S ISLAND(L)
It was amazing.
I didn’t miss one episode of Harper’s Island. I will definitely miss it on Saturday nights; however I was VERY VERY disappointed with the ending. I had
no idea it was Henry; I was very shocked but greatly disappointed. Guess I am
a romantic at heart wanted the few that were left would KILL Wakefield and get off
the island. Henry and Trish would have their wedding and of course Abby and Jimmy
would be reunited. Wish there could have been a continued series!
Thanks to CBS for airing the episodes.
Harper’s Island was a fantastic, fun and well made Mystery/Slasher mini-series, my wife and I watched it faithfully every week…it will be missed!
Perhaps more will try it on dvd and appreciate it for what it was, and not for what some “thought” it should be.
If you didn’t watch it you missed a great show imo
why the hell would anyone ruin a 13 week mystery and NAME the killer in an un-announced SPOILER????
Are you daft?
How about mixing for common sense with your sentimentality!
(yes Robin this is directed towards you)
@Robin: Thanks for ruining the finale of Harper’s Island you stupid hooker.
@Robin: My previous comment wasn’t harsh enough. What the hell is the matter with you Robin? Why in the world would you hop onto this forum and ruin an ending some of us have been waiting 11+ weeks for??? Not all of us sit at home on Saturday nights…some of us do rely on DVR. Lemme guess…you ate too many paint chips as a child? Someone needs to smack the sh!t out of you.
It always amuses me the way people go nuts over spoilers. You’d think the moment of their death was just revealed to them and it’s today. LOL
some people (Saylor, Stu) need to get a life…
djm, RSH, they are completely right. In this site we discuss the RATINGS, not the product. Of course we can do it, but at least let’s have some judgment and not give MAJOR SPOILERS away.
I knew who the killer was, but if I didn’t I would be very very upset.
Harper’s Island is a bad show. The last episodes are entertaining but it’s a show very poorly made.
Kings is awesome. One of the best shows on TV. I just wished NBC gave it a chance. Well, too late now. Hope many people catch up on DVD. It’s definitely worth it.
djm and RSH have it right. Get a grip, it’s your own fault for reading the article that is clearly headlined with the final episodes of Harper’s Island as part of the main topic. Just what did you expect to read about the local weather report?
I believe Wipeout was on at 9pm. Cuz I came home @ 8.55pm and I’m pretty sure Wipeout was on at 9.
Shem, Wipeout was on at 8pm last night.
BTW, I knew who the killer of Harper’s Island was from the very beginning. However, it was still a good ending.
it’s to bad good tv just don’t make it anymore tv has really cahnged 15 to 20 yrs ago this show would have been a watercooler speacial. It would have been the talk of the time..Nothing can make it any more case in point, they got rid of the Unit, the 4400, and cane last yr tv just stinks today nothing get a chance except reality tv to bad
Instead of bitching at Robin…(Saylor, Stu) you should learn to actually watch something live instead of relying on your DVR’s. Its “stupid” people like you who ruin good shows. (Not that Harpers Island was good)

There you go Robin, its not your fault.

and how much did ABC bother to promote the showing of these final episodes of Eli Stone? not much I believe. I don’t recall seeing any print ads or commercials on tv promoting these final episodes. Lots of commercials for WIPE OUT, but no mention of Eli Stone. I had to check on line to find the air dates for these final few episodes. ABC definitely was NOT promoting Eli Stone, which is a shame. It was a great show. ABC should have just been a little more patient. They choose to think reality shows are the way to go. Well, I’m gone.
People need to watch kings. great show, my favorite show on TV right now. Sad that NBC gave up on the show, even though it seems like they never really got behind it.
I didn’t watch Harper’s after the first few minutes when they caught the killer and didn’t kill him and then “omg he escaped” in another two minutes and kept killing. Boring.
David R haha.
If Robin had revealed the killer last week, I would agree with those who are upset, but she didn’t. The show has already aired so it’s fair game. Talking about what happened in a show that has already aired isn’t spoiling, it’s discussion. If you watch an episode late, avoid any article or blog post having to do with that episode or deal with reading “spoilers.”
I wonder how many viewers Harper’s lost on Saturday because of Americans who had already downloaded the Canadian broadcast.
Not that TOO many people would do such a thing.
“ABC definitely was NOT promoting Eli Stone, which is a shame. It was a great show. ABC should have just been a little more patient. They choose to think reality shows are the way to go. Well, I’m gone.”
Why promote a burn off? At least Eli Stone got the lead in of Dancing with the Stars for a bit. The best Pushing Daisies ever got was ONE Christmas special. All in all, I dont blame ABC for not promoting. Wipeout is still on their network, while Eli Stone is gone. It makes perfect sense.
I did watch it, my response was in regard to any who might come here in a round about way and come across that huge bit of “needless” information.
There are plenty of people who I’m sure tvo’d it or will watch the dvd release so I stand by my initial opinion that it was completely un-needed.
And anyone who frequents movie review sites it’s common etiquette to proclaim that your comment is going to contain ***Spoilers*** as a simple courtesy to those who come late to viewing.
Harper’s Island was great. Shame they moved it to Saturdays. I mean, the ratings weren’t that bad. They could’ve kept it on rather than repeats of different shows, and I’m pretty sure it would’ve fared just as good if not better than repeats.
KINGS IS RAD! BTW, you all sound like tards. Seriously. I’d also like to point out that those who knock DVR sound like even bigger tards. Some of us opt not to sit at home alone and friendless eating popcorn and licking the salt & butter off our fingers on the weekends. But if we did, we’d be all about the “live broadcast”.
Later tards!
PS: Harper’s Island blows.

Kristin Shepard shot J.R.
To the spoiler nubs this site is visited by international people as well. You wouldnt like it if I spoiled torchwood for you Americans now would you?
J.R.?? What is this.. Dallas??
what a crappy ending to harper’s island. i was shocked to find out the 2nd killer…but that ending was horrible. is the fbi that stupid? they told the two that all 3 were dead, but um..they weren’t. i had to find out the end, but it was watching a trainwreck. i felt like HI owes me back 13 hrs of my life.
The boat sinks.
The psychiatrist is dead.
@Aussie,
If I went on a British website, I would fully expect to see spoilers for Torchwood, Dr. Who, and other UK shows that already aired there. I would also avoid posting anything about a show they haven’t gotten yet.
But this isn’t a British (or Australian) website, it’s an American one, focused on ratings of American shows on American TV. It’s ridiculous to maintain that we have to avoid talking about a show for 6 months because people in Asia won’t get the episodes until then.
Kings is still like watching a PBS British produced show – very stiff. But having King Silas implode and calling his son a faggot in the middle of Davids treason trial when he revealed Silas set David up, was priceless, one of the rare moments when the show came out of its coma. Im suprised NBC actually aired that – it was very polically incorrect.
Im just curious as to how it turns out. Not worth watching live, but still recording it. Harpers Island was boring, didnt watch that. Eli StoneD – never cared for it. Only 2 more Kings episodes, but it will end on a cliffhanger, never to be resolved, from what I hear.
No surprise for me. After very first episode, I predicted Henry as Killer…
….& totally agree with Holly’s following comment.
Holly’s (quote)

If I tape or DVR a program, I watch before reading any reference made to show.
I’m glad that NBC has decided to continue to run out the Kings Episodes. I have enjoyed the show. The acting has been generally quite good, the characters are likable, and the stories have been compelling. That being said, I think NBC’s decision to cancel the show made perfect sense: it was clearly very expensive to produce, and it was a show that was only ever going to find a niche audience. If anything, I’m more shocked that NBC ever greenlit the show in the first place given its low upside and high downside. But I’m personally very glad they did.
Having said that, I’ve only ever watched the show on Hulu. I’m sure that NBC would have preferred I watch it on our Chicago NBC affiliate.
@Holly
I’m not saying you cant discuss it but spoiler warning/spacing would be more polite….
hell if this website implemented spoiler code that would be even better
Those with healthy self-esteem and an active social life do not take television this seriously. It’s abnormal. The vast majority of people don’t watch any particular episode of any TV show – not live, not on DVR, not ever. The vast majority of people are not watching any television at all during a particular episode.
You would think a likely shut-in like Saylor would have watched it live in the first place.
Get a life, Saylor.

Was Harper’s Island Shakesperian. Absolutely not. It wasn’t suppose to be. It was a murder mystery mini-series. For me, it was definitely a “guilty pleasure”. One of my favorite all-time movies is “Scream”. I love horrors and this was like watching a small screen version of the slasher genre. If everyone had completely watched every episode and judged it on what it was suppose be (s slasher mystery), you couldn’t have faulted it. I thoroughly enjoyed and was glad it was aired till the finale. Thank you CBS (it was the only thing I watched on CBS until now…”Big Brother” has returned a/k/a my all-time favorite reality show..
Valentine wasn’t a repeat.
I’m not really surprised that CBS, NBC didn’t fair well on Saturday.
I do like Harper’s Island and Kings. And although I missed Harper’s, I’m totally not surprised by this outcome. The show did have some great moments, but those we’re few and far between. If the finale was as bad as everyone says, I probably won’t waste my time watching it. I do have some “fond” memories of the first few episodes that I’d hate to ruin.
I’d like to understand what the future of King’s will be – help? Thoughts, links, anything?? I understand the numbers would indicate that there is no future for Kings…but come on, Dollhouse on FOX got renewed and fairs just as bad as Kings.
AND AirRodeo – Thanks for your kind words. I was wondering why the bus I ride is so short, but now that you’ve explained that I’m retarded, it makes sense. I wonder how I’m going to break the news to my girlfriend…
AND Spoilers totally suck when you don’t want them, so why is everyone freaking out?
I’m back! Hey, I forgot to ask, does anyone know how many episodes of Kings will actually air or how many episodes have already been produced? Or can anyone tell me how I would find this out?
I thought the whole idea of taking Kings off air a few months back was that NBC were confused as to why such a quality HBO like show was bombing in the ratings and to heavily promote the return of the remaining episodes.
NBC then did absolutely nothing to promote the show’s return (I didn’t even realize it was back on the air until I’d missed an episode) and surprise surprise the show dies a death.
Kings may have had extraordinarily low ratings but it will be remembered as a very brave and original piece of TV by millions (unfortunately it’ll probably mean that NBC won’t ever be ‘brave’ again)
If you’re rich enough to afford a DVR, then life has treated you well, so quit bitching about spoilers for a show that has already aired.
GMJH – I agree, NBC didn’t promote the show properly, especially when they brought it back on in June – but do you know if it’s actually going to be canceled? Also, you mentioned the remaining episodes. I’m trying to figure out how I can find how many episodes are remaining. Do you know?
Hi Michah,
We know it is canceled for sure for a variety of reasons ranging from it not being renewed or announced as part of NBC’s 2009-2010 schedule to being banished to Saturdays and then delayed until the summer. There were 13 episodes of Kings made and 11 of 13 have aired with the final two episodes currently scheduled to air on 7/18 and 7/25.
Love Harper’s Island! At last something to watch besides CSI and Law & Order type shows. Wish someone would do more of these mystery mini-series type shows!
Robert – you’re awesome!! Thanks for the info (even though the news of Kings cancellation makes me frown)!!
I have been so into Kings. It’s the first show I’ve been excited about in quite awhile. The series is incredibly imaginative and the cast couldn’t be stronger. Some of the writing is admittedly weak but what it lacks in substance it makes up for in style (in my opinion at least). It seems to me that NBC really failed in promoting the show. In fact, it seems like NBC didn’t back Kings at all and that really blows my mind.
I’m really disappointed by NBC. You’d think by now TV watchers everywhere would be tired of the same old mind numbing reality shows, medical dramas and legal snores…but apparently not.
Anyway, thanks again Robert.
I very much enjoyed Harper’s Island and will miss it. I didn’t love the ending, but I didn’t hate it either. I did hear this week about a show coming to ABC that is kinda similar called Happy Town. I watched the trailer on youtube and it could be interesting and a decent replacement. Plus, bonus, it has Amy Acker! She was on Angel, Alias, and Dollhouse.
Count me in as another one who spotted Henry as the most likely suspect from the first, simply because 1) Christopher Gorham usually plays nice guys and 2) he looks like Norman Bates ha ha. If the writers had been more clever when they were distracting us with their obvious red herrings (the sherrif! Jimmy! and let’s not forget creepy Madison) they would have set up Henry as an obvious red herring just to throw us off the scent. And if you don’t want spoilers, be like me: I tape stuff before I watch it, too, but always avoid any thread dealing with an episode I haven’t seen. If it’s a season/series finale where some Big Secret Will Be Revealed, I won’t even look at the internet. When the Lost series finale hits, I’ll probably unplug my PC too just to be safe.
