  1. tim says:

    yay!!!

  2. Jon K says:

Also says “Flight of the Conchords” is likely to be renewed. “In Treatment” and “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” are to be determined.

I hope they will be able to work something out for “In Treatment.”

  3. Alex_j says:

    Yay 4 “Entourage”…

  4. Joss's Biggest Fan says:

Grr! I can’t believe that this “True Blood” show, which obviously wouldn’t exist if not for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is sticking around! I suspect it will join the list of shows that lose all their popularity as soon as they’re renewed for an additional season! I wouldn’t even be surprised if HBO rescinded their order for another season in a few months, like they did with Tell Me You Love Me!

Dollhouse returns in 57 days! Watch it or else!

  5. Ally says:

To Joss’s Biggest Fan: get your facts straight..True Blood is being signed on for season 3 and is doing just fine!

  6. Dexter says:

JossBiggestFan, True Blood is HBO’s highest rated program since the Sopranos! It isn’t going anywhere for along time! FYI: I loved Buffy seasons 1-5.

  7. Holly says:

Ally and Dexter, Obviously you haven’t read many of JBF’s posts… (hint, he’s not serious)

  8. Jon says:

The renewal of True Blood, Hung and Entourage doesn’t surprise me as they have been doing great, is Entourage going to be HBO’s longest running scripted series since The Sopranos, Oz and Sex and the City ran for six season and Six Feet Under and The Wire ran for five seasons.

Flight of the Conchords third series is dependent on Bret and Jemaine but the second season ended in such a way that it was possible to bring it back and also end on a high. I wonder if they’ll move to a different location in America or even have in New Zealand.

  9. Dan says:

    I love Hung and Entourage…….Nice

  10. Kyle says:

I REALLY hope they renew Ladies Detective Agency…. underrated show

  11. Jen says:

    Sweet!!! Yay True Blood!!!

  12. JS says:

The Emmy’s should help Flight of the Conchords but who knows. Anyway, ew to Entourage getting picked up…Hung and True Blood deserve it though.

  13. Visan says:

Congrats to all three shows! Well-deserved!

  14. Holly says:

Kyle, I’ll have to check, but I’m pretty sure #! Ladies Detective Agency isn’t coming back to HBO. Sorry.

  15. Holly says:

    oops, #1 Ladies Detective Agency….

The Futon Critic twittered (twitted?) from the HBO presentation at the Television Critics Association Press Tour that #1 Ladies Detective Agency and Little Britain USA will not be back as series, but might appear as specials or one-offs.

  16. Drew says:

Another season of True Blod and seeing my favorite TV character, Sookie Stackhouse. Sounds great! (Dancing pepper)

And JBF: Don’t you realize True Blood’s thundering success on a premium cable network will inspire the broadcast giants to embrance sci-fi? Dollhouse will be championed as the sci-fi coolness the broadcasters so desperately need, and will be embraced full-heartedly by an awed FOX…for three episodes before it’s moved to Fridays in summer 2010.

  17. mojaam says:

Hung and In Treatment (which I guess its time has come) FTW!

  18. zeker says:

I am a big fan of Entourage (I have the DVD box sets) but this season really feels like the last in terms of story arc and it feels like a good place to ed it.

I hope this is not another Sopranoes situation where the show lingers on past its prime.

  19. r0ckmypants says:

Wasn’t True Blood already picked up for season three? I remember reading an interview with Alan Ball saying shooting would begin before Christmas. Is this just the official announcement or is this an announcement for season four?

  20. Dexter says:

Yes, but HBO made the renewal official!

  21. Gusar says:

Err, Drew… Dollhouse is already on Fridays! Or do you mean they’ll drop it from the regular season and burn the episodes off in the summer? Can’t argue that it’s a possibility that the show will crash massively, but I wouldn’t speak about it with any kind of certainty.

Hmm, isn’t this an article about HBO shows? Ok then… Yay for True Blood!

  22. Andrea says:

It’s funny how almost every ambitious show on cable gets renewed, while almost every ambitious show on network tv (since the writers’ strike) gets canceled.

  23. Drew says:

Gusar, I’m just having fun with JBF. Find his post and you’ll see why.

And I’m thrilled about True Blood, which is my favorite TV show.

  24. Tom says:

True blood will be even biger next season with 2 Twilight Movies coming up with in a year.

  25. jay says:

How much better the headline, Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Deadwood renewed must have been. JBF – just caught Eliza Dooshkin ( that was mean, meant Dushkin ) and remenmber her being sexier in the Bring it On movie. I don’t think she holds a candle to Whedon’s earlier leading ladies like Sarah Michelle, Charisma, Buffy’s little sister, even Alyson ( who of course has done very well for herself, and deservedly so, as probably the best thespian of the bunch.) I went from rolling my eyes at Buffy to watching it in syndie every day for two or three months. Actuaslly, if only because thin-skinned feminista viewers tried to torpedo, troll and trash it,I hope Dollhouse all the success it can get and may watch it, ( sound muted, probably, but hey – that’s a start.)

  26. Ray says:

HBO seems to be getting it’s mojo back with these three shows.

But what about “In Treatment” and “The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”? Those were my favorite shows of the year (Along with “Damages” and “Mad Men”.

  27. Ray, there’s more info in the link in the post, and the most comprehensive detail I saw about status for HBO shows based on the TCA conference is here:

  28. KN says:

Flight of the Conchords’ fate rests in the hands of FOTC. HBO heads have stated that they want FOTC back. Hopefully, after a bit of time to recharge, collect possible storylines from their latest tour and write new songs, the guys will be willing to come back.

  29. Gleebo says:

I really wish people would stop dragging Joss Whedon related stuff into shows that have nothing to do with him. I am a huge Joss fan and rank Buffy, Angel, and Firefly in my top 10 all time favorite shows but I still give other shows…even vampire ones…a fair chance of getting my attention.

I missed True Blood’s first season so I picked it up on Blu Ray and will be watching it when I get a chance. Oddly enough the next Blu Ray I purchased was Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. I didn’t love Dollhouse 100% through the first season but there definitely were some great episodes especially the finale. Hope to see it last for a full season and give FOX good enough reason to keep it around.

  30. Dexter says:

Entourage is a stupid show now and HBO ought to cancel it.

  31. Dexter says:

    http://www.philly.com/inquirer/magazine/20090801_Jonathan_Storm__Jon___Kate_still_rate_with_TLC.html
“True Blood, which, with 11 million viewers a week, is threatening The Sopranos’ position as HBO’s most popular original series. All will return next summer.”

  32. Drew says:

That 11 million is a bit misleading. That’s the original episode + the replays + on demand + DVRed numbers. Using that statistic, the final Sopranos episode had 14 million I read somewhere.

And the 3 million in 07 vs. 7 million in 09 bump is a great example of how alternate viewing (i.e., not the original airing) has boomed.

  33. Shocker says:

This one posts states the in your face obvious :p

  34. mike says:

Joss’s Biggest fan get of your high horse, true blood has absolutely nothing to do with buffy the vampire slayer and its rating have done nothing but increase. It really is a great show.

  35. Excellent to have Entourage back on and looking forward to a new line up of beautiful ladies!
