iCarly, Burn Notice, The Closer, Royal Pains, WWE RAW and Monk top week’s cable shows

Big week! Most of the top few shows we’ve seen data for already.  The week was of course led by Nickelodeon’s  iCarly: iFight Shelby Marx with nearly 7.9 million viewers.   The summer/mid-season finale of Burn Notice was next with 7.59 million, followed by The Closer with 6.98 million and Royal Pains with 6.69 million.

The season premiere of the final season of Monk also made the top 20 (and the top 10) at number 6 with 5.14 million.  Psych did not make the top 20, but by viewers it was tied for 25th with 3.979 million.

The impressive iCarly special only aired three times between Saturday and Sunday (the only days its aired so far that would be included for the week) and all three airings made the top 20.   In addition to the top spot, it grabbed the 13th spot with 4.82 million and the 16th spot with 4.36 million.  Additionally a 30 minute episode of iCarly that aired after the first airing of the special took the number 11 spot with 4.89 million.   Pretty impressive.

A few notes:

1.) the numbers here are just basic cable.  Mostly that’s advertising supported basic cable, but Disney, which is included here, and is basic cable, isn’t advertising supported.  You might see notes from Nickelodeon that the iCarly special was the most-watched kids programming on advertising supported basic cable all year.  That claim is, in fact, true.  But Disney’s Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana was actually more-watched in its initial airing in July with 9.292 million — but Disney isn’t an advertising supported cable network.

2.) because these are just basic cable numbers,  they do not include premium channels like HBO.  So even if True Blood had more than 4.15 million viewers (it might have, the week before it had 4.3 million!) it wouldn’t be in the table below.  However, I will post True Blood’s results from Sunday as soon as I see them.

3.) I have enough data to figure out who won all USA Network – related contests for Burn Notice’s summer finale and the season premieres of Psych and Monk.  However, not everyone followed the rules exactly and it will take me a while to announce all the contest winners, I hope to do so no later than tomorrow (Wednesday, August 12).

  5. kirrrra says:

    How about Ice Road Truckers?

  6. j says:

The kid nets are really ramping up the battle. Besides the 4 iCarlys & 2 Spongebobs, Wizards & Suite Life made it. Only other thing of note is USA dominating in general. 5 of the top 7.

  7. RJ says:

    Actually, how about Leverage?

  8. jesse says:

Would love to see leverage numbers

  12. Mike says:

If taking requests, 10 Dollar Dinners, the new show from the winner of the Next Food Network Star. With the finale of NFNS doing so well, I’m really curious how many people checked out Melissa’s show. Thanks.

  13. Jon says:

I guess with Burn Notice on hiatus and iCarly not due to have another episode for a while, I’m guessing The Closer will be number 1 next week.

In Plain Sight and Criminal Intent did very well as both were up, CI will probably be renewed and they will have more Eames/Nicholls episodes in future. Monk and Psych seemed slightly down on what they normally get but I think Monk will do better in weeks to come since it’s the final season.

If you are doing requests Robert, I would like the rest of the TNT shows please.

  14. rebkell says:

Always wonder about Warehouse 13 and Eureka

  15. Stefan says:

    ECW and Superstars. Please

  16. JanieJones says:

I’m surprised that Psych did not break the top 20 with Monk as a lead-in. It appeared, to me, that more people were excited about Psych returning than Monk. I dvr’d both and watched them as soon as I returned home Friday night.
I, too, am curious to see Leverage’s numbers.

  17. Jose says:

If you are taking requests, what did the airing of Fairly OddParents on Thursday August 6 at 12 on Nick get? Thanks alot for all the great work by the way if you’re not taking requests.

  18. RJ says:

I wish these networks would release more press releases! I feel like I’m asking for a bunch of shows. I really only care about Leverage and The Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers.

  19. Robert says:

Big ouch for Psych, with all the other USA shows doing so good i don’t think it’s going to be around for much longer

  20. Steupz says:

Robert, may I have the rating numbers for the Premiere of Real Chance Of Love 2 on VH1?

  21. victor hugo says:

i would like to know the ratings of:

    Dark Blue
    Warehouse 13
    Levarage
    Hawtorhne
10 things i hate about you

    thanks

  22. chrisjozo says:

I think Psych will improve as time goes by. Could I get the numbers for Leverage and Warehouse 13, Thanks.

  23. Kyle says:

    Saving Grace?

  24. TVBill says:

I’ll help out and list the few I have, if it helps towards my request. ;-) (Yay bartering!)

    LEVERAGE: 3.69 million
    HAWTHORNE: 3.58 million
    WAREHOUSE 13: 3.31 million

  25. OpeningDayGuy09 says:

DAMN! iCarly being killing the other network’s asses. Its got great replay value. Probably the most valuable comedy on TV outside of Two and a Half Men.

Burn Notice does better than all of NBC’s dramas combined.

I want to see numbers for every TNT show not listed, Hall of Fame on ESPN on Saturday, Real World, America’s Best Dance Crew, and

  26. Terry says:

    any numbers for being human??

  27. joey says:

    ECW did 1.0
    WWE SUPERSTARS did 0.9

  28. Hot Pocket says:

Let me brag for a sec. I told you guys both iCarly and Burn Notice would reach new series highs and be #1 and #2 on the list.

Its a lot more funner seeing cable ratings than it is network ratings now in days.

  29. sam says:

    Top Chef Masters
Kathy Griffin mY Life on The D-List
    Americas Best Dance Crew
    Chelsea LAtely

    THANKS!!!!

  30. First TVBill’s request, since he not only asks for data, he gives it too!

Army Wives averaged 3.550 million viewers Sunday night. I’ll add the other requests to this comment shortly.

Mostly in order of request — definitely NOT in order of viewers:

    Secret Life American Teen: 3.556M
    Drop Dead Diva: 2.444M
    10 Things I Hate: 1.115
    ABDC: 2.289M
    Ruby & Rockits: 1.009M
Make It or Break It: 2.077M
    Ice Road Truckers: 2.655M
    Megan Wants a Millionaire: 1.229M
    Samantha Brown Weekends: 332K
    ECW: 1.746M
    WWE Superstars: 752K
Fairly Odd Parents (Thursday/noon): 3.009M (was most-watched FOP)
Comedy Central Roast (Sun 10p): 2.817M
    Real Chance of Love2: 2.518M
    Dark Blue: 2.881M
    Eureka: 2.353M
    Being Human S1: 270K
    Saving Grace: 3.114M
    Top Chef Masters: 1.719M
    Chelsea Lately: 1.046M (Tuesday 11p, most-watched)
World Extreme Cagefighting: 670K (Sun 9p)
    HGTV Design Star: 2.802M
    K Griffin/D-List: 660K

  31. J. Norman says:

I don’t know for sure, but I would certainly guess that both Monk and Psych’s numbers are skewed lower than they really are because viewers know that you can catch the show another time during the week. In my case, although they are appointment TV for me, I’m not always (often) home at 9:00 or 10:00 on Fridays, but I know I can catch both shows at a very convenient 11:00 and 12:00 the following morning.

  32. TVBill says:

    LOL — thanks, Robert!

  33. Danielle says:

Any word on WEC 42 on Versus?

  34. Mark says:

    HGTV Design Star please….

  35. Jon says:

Warehouse 13 is doing solidly and if it hasn’t already been renewed then it should be. I wonder if Syfy will consider putting more scripted shows on Tuesdays as it’s working out for them although Fridays have traditionally been where they have scheduled their hit shows like Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, BSG and Sanctuary and upcoming shows like Stargate Universe and Caprica.

  36. disneymaniac says:

For those who wanted to know about Secret Life and Make it Or Break It, you can find it on this site, here: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/08/04/mondays-the-secret-life-of-an-american-teenager-and-make-it-or-break-it-draw-big-numbers-for-abc-family/24187

  37. requests posted above in comment — no more requests this week. If I missed yours, sorry!

and disneymaniac — thanks for reminding people to check the press releases. Data is often available before the weekly reports on Tuesdays

  38. Number Cruncher says:

    Thanks again.

  39. Victor Hugo says:

    thanks, Robert!(2)

  40. RJ says:

    Thnaks Robert!

  41. Steupz says:

    Grazi, Robert.

  42. Danielle says:

    Thank you!

  43. TVBill says:

FYI — I don’t have viewer numbers yet, but looks like TRUE BLOOD hit yet another high in A18-49. It was last week’s number one cable show in the demo, with a 2.3/6… up a tenth from the prior week.

  44. derek says:

No! I came too late. Ah this stinks. No Real World numbers this week. :(

  45. RJ says:

    @ Derek

Someone did request it, but Robert must have accidentally skipped over them.

  46. sam says:

    thanks robert!!!!!!

  47. The1337 says:

Dark Blue doesn’t look like it’s doing too well. I actually like the show and hope it gets renewed.

  48. Real World shouldve been there. I typed it out, I just didn’t copy/paste! Sorry. 1.752M

  49. Michael says:

How did the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen do?

  50. Michael because it didn’t wind up happening until Monday due to rain, it will be in NEXT week’s results (these only go through Sunday)

  51. JammyJam says:

    Where’s Dance Crew numbers at?

  52. Jon says:

Thanks Robert for the TNT numbers except for Raising the Bar although I think it’s similar to what it got last week.

  53. Eddie says:

Hey Robert! Was there a press release or anything about how Real Housewives of Atlanta did?

  54. Sean says:

Has Burn Notice reached the point yet where we can agree that NBC would like it on its lineup??

  55. Sean, no, absolutely not. I LOVE me some Burn Notice, but…

Burn Notice had 18-49 numbers that would *immediately* put it on the bubble of cancellation based on the NBC numbers for 2008-2009. And that’s at series high levels, and in the summer against less competition. There is a school of thought that says “but if you put it on Broadcast it would draw even MORE viewers” and if you told me Burn Notice was going to air on CBS I might even buy that. But on NBC, I wouldn’t be so sure.

  56. Jon says:

Burn Notice would do well on CBS or FOX but on NBC not so much, we’ve seen when NBC showed episodes of Monk and Psych they got similar numbers to what they would have got on USA. Dexter did about 6-8m which is poor for CBS but very good for a show that get 1-2m at best on Showtime.

Leverage is doing great for TNT and their second highest show after The Closer, I’m sure it will get renewed as will Saving Grace but strangely TNT are splitting it into two runs like what USA does with Burn Notice and Psych and they are scheduling films like The Librarian and Independance Day at 6/7pm at a lead in.

  57. Shem says:

I wonder if Touched by an Angel reruns got more numbers than Kathy Griffin/D List??
    She is so obnoxious.

  58. Jose says:

THANKS ROBERT! No one gives out Fairly OddParents numbers like you guys!

  59. ABCHasProblems says:

It’s nice to see the iCarly special take 3 of the top 20 spots, but Nickelodeon is overexposing it. In just two days, 17 million total viewers watched the special in 3 different airings, including 2 primetime spots. That should be enough for Nickelodeon, yet another rerun of the special aired last night @ 8. They have another rerun scheduled for this Saturday @ 8. This insanity reminds me of earlier this year when ABC frequently aired low-rated Scrubs reruns.

  60. Shem, wonder no more. In viewers, absolutely with many airings beating D-List by wide margins. The best Touched By an Angel averaged 1.24M on Tuesday at 9p.

  61. Shem says:

Hey thanks, I love that show. Cable ratings are seeming much more interesting than Broadcast TV. Too bad for Millionaire.

  62. gustavo says:

i just wanna know the ratings of my favorite show on cable rescue me?

  63. JammyJam says:

My fault, I overlooked it before. ABDC: 2.289M, damn they really should’ve left it on Thursdays. It got crushed.

  64. Curious says:

How that dreadful Jon & Kate+8 do 8/10/09?
    Thanks!

  65. For whomever was asking about Real Housewives of Atlanta — I thought I had posted the press release last week, but I guess it was for the week before. Last week it did 2.696M

    Rescue Me = 1.237M. .

Curious, we’ll see those #s NEXT week (this is for through Sunday) if not sooner.

  66. Joseph says:

Can you please post the numbers for Raising The Bar? thanks!

  67. Jon says:

Robert, what happened to no more requests? :p

  68. Drew says:

Wow, has there been a week with as many cable shows over 5 million?

  69. Number Cruncher says:

The week with the BET Awards and the Jon and Kate divorce episode (they were the number 1 and 2 shows that week). I remember that week had 10-12 shows with over 5 million viewers.

  70. Drew says:

    Ah, I see.

  71. Ron #1 says:

How come Mike’s request for 10 Dollar Dinners was not published?

  72. Ron #1, chalk it up to bad eyesight. Ten Dollar Dinners: 1.756M

And for whoever was asking for Raising the Bar: 3.420 million

and now, definitely no more requests :)

  73. William says:

At what point will NBC need to tap the USA shows or even move a show or two to the peacock network permanently?

And for my eight year old daughter, where is Hannah Montana in the ratings? Wasn’t that a top 10 power at one time?

  74. JP says:

I am really surprised that Warehouse 13 and Eureka are not being as well received as I thought they would. Both shows are remarkably well scripted and quite frankly, fun to watch. Hopefully, both will see a deserved rise in viewership in the weeks ahead.

  75. Mark says:

I’ll have to say folks – your requests were excellent. Nice to see the numbers for many shows I was curious about. Surprised they continue to air Kathy Griffin’s show – pretty low numbers, even for Bravo… Too bad about Dark Blue, but it is a poorly executed show. Raising The Bar has improved a lot since the first season – hope it sticks around….

  76. Number Cruncher says:

People are continuing to get turned off by Jon and Kate. They only attracted 3.5 million for Monday’s episode.

    http://www.usmagazine.com/news/jon-and-Kate-ratings-continue-to-plummet-2009138

  77. SleeperActiveCompass says:

How high did Kathy’s D-List ever go?

I will breathe a collective sigh of relief when Jon & Kate are off the air.

I’m glad Melissa is pulling close to 2 million on the Food Network. They’re desperate for their next Rachael Ray-esque franchise.

  78. Kyle says:

Didn’t Kathy Griffin’s show break a record with its debut this year?

And I REALLY hope “Saving Grace” gets renewed. Holly Hunter is so brilliant in that gig

  79. Julia says:

Where are the Neilsen cable network ratings for last week? I do not see them posted yet.

  80. Julia, completely forgot (helped by the issue that very few people read those). I will post it within the next couple of hours.

  81. sam says:

kathy debut pulled 1 million vierwes…not its at 650k

  82. Sam, Monday, August 3rd at 10pm on Bravo My Life on The D List averaged 660K. A rebroadcast (I’m guessing) immediately after at 11pm averaged 334K. It’s close to a million, but only if you add both the first and second airings together. Bravo might report that as a million in a press release (not sure), but if *we* reported ratings for all shows that way shows like iCarly, NCIS and SpongeBob would all have a gazillion viewers. So we don’t report numbers that way here.

  83. Nora says:

I hope Burn Notice STAYS on USA. It’s the perfect place for it and I prefer most USA programming to anything on the networks these days. (with the exception of NCIS)
