Rating/Share: Adults 18-34 2.3/8 2.0/7 1.3/4 1.7/6 1.1/4 0.4/1

FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen easily dominated the 8pm hour in the demo with a 3.4/12, the best 18-49  performance of the night, but with 7.34M viewers trailed an NCIS rerun in viewers (9.513M, 1.8/6)

Big Brother hit season (and perhaps multiple season) highs with adults 18-49 in last night’s episode that explained why Chima Simone was bounced.  The show scored a 2.9/6 (rating/share) with adults 18-49, and was neck and neck with America’s Got Talent from 9p-10p and bested Talent in adults 18-34 in the 9pm hour.  For the hour Big Brother averaged 8.085 million, while Talent averaged 11.699 million (from 9pm-11pm Talent averaged 11.59 million.

Shaquille O’Neal’s, Shaq Vs. didn’t exactly hit the ground runnin, but it could’ve been worse!  The show came in tied for third with FOX’s More to Love for the hour with adults 18-49 with a 1.7/5, though Shaq Vs. had slightly more viewers than More to Love (4.337M vs 4.032M).  Shaq Vs. premiered a bit better than The Superstars did in June (1.5/5).

Earlier in the night Who Wants to Be a Millionaire averaged a 1.4/5 with adults 18-49 and 6.25 million.   Primetime: The Outsiders scored a 1.3/4 with adults 18-49 and 3.54 million viewers.  Indeed, Shaq had the best ratings on ABC last night.

Medium fans: the rerun at 10pm on CBS averaged a 1.1/3 with adults 18-49 and 4.11 million viewers.

Note: I know that some of you are unhappy with the lack of tables in these posts, and I am too.  Beyond that, some of you are unhappy with the format I have chosen to post the information.   It’s summer, and I’m really not too worried about it for the remainder of August.  If the night’s average for the CW isn’t enough for you in the table above and you want to know how a 90210 repeat did specifically and I didn’t break it out, please visit Marc Berman’s site.

Definitions:

*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Chief says:

Shaq Vs. will grow. Last night was very entertaining. I think it would work well with Wipeout.

  2. ABCHasProblems says:

That’s good news for Shaq vs. I was expecting worse ratings than The Superstars received. Maybe it will be renewed if ratings stay somewhat constant.

According to an ABC press release, a contestant will look at the Million Dollar Question on Sunday’s Millionaire. They describe it as “unlike anything viewers have seen before”, meaning the player will use the total remaining time from the previous 14 questions. I hope everybody tunes in for that.

  3. Forsythe says:

Not a viewer of Shaq Vs., but I think the ratings will get better as time goes. He actually has booked a great lineup of athletes for future shows who are pretty much the best of the best in their individual sport. That will always attract the hardcore Shaq and/or sports fan to this show. The Michael Phelps episode w/ Shaq in a pool will garner the highest ratings I am sure. I may even watch that one, being a Phelps fan.

  4. Chief says:

The one event that I’m sure Shaq is going to win is when he boxes Oscar de la Hoya. Shaq will tear him a new one.

  5. Marc says:

Shaq vs is definitely a niche market, Probably good for sponsers and advertisers.

Big Brother had tension from week 1 (thanks to Ronnie)

and the tension has built up so much.

I thought after Chima got the boot the entertainment may die down, but oh no, LYDIA had to take CHIMA’s spot on the crazy train!!!!

  6. Anonymous says:

Oohh looks like Talent got slightly dented by the surging BB…I think BB’s ratings will level off a bit now that the controversy is over.

  7. Roop says:

BIG BROTHER BIG BROTHER BIG BROTHER BIG BROTHER BIG BROTHER :D :D :D :D

  8. R.G. says:

“HK” was another fun episode…I don’t think i will ever get bored watching this show….HK rules the Tues nite blahs!

  9. R.G. says:

America’s got talent…but America has a lame host and Judges…
the host is a quack…he stinks…and David Hasselhoff has become a bigger geek…lose the judges – get a better host and you will have a hit again.

…Or actually what NBC should do – is do all sports & news and leave all else behind…your network S-T-I-N-K-S…

  10. T says:

if Natalie and Lydia go Big Brother is gonna be so low on drama

  11. Anonymous says:

Oh the host on AGT is AWWWWWWWWWWWWWFUL!!!! My goodness, he actually makes Ryan Seacrest look GOOD in comparison. The judges are OK, although Hoff is awfully “nice” all the time. But yeah, Nick Cannon has GOT to go next season!

  12. DJ Mike says:

As I continue posting, Wow…Big Brother continues to deliver…loving it all the way…Can’t way for Thursday’s episode…

  13. joseph says:

those are very good numbers for big brother! it was an awesome episode!

  14. Jalen People says:

Hells Kitchen Was awesome last night! I am happy Fox keeps renewing this because the ratings are consistent!

  15. nikki says:

I find Shaq to be obnoxious as hell. I think the show would be better if they have other athletes competing in sports that aren’t their own. Shaq getting the last comment going into the locker room right before half time is more than enough..He’s a Jacka$%

  16. Elyk says:

Hell’s Kitchen numbers for summer are very good. I was worried about a new season in the summer but boy was I wrong. Question, what happened to the table of numbers that used to be here? I haven’t checked the website in a while so if this has already been answered than sry.

  17. Elyk:

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/08/07/one-more-site-change-inspired-by-nielsen/24355

We’ll figure out a better presentation than I’m using right now in the fall…

  18. Mark says:

Rob, sometimes your so mean to The CW.

  19. CP says:

The only reason Nick Cannon is the host is because he’s “married” to Mariah Carey. There are tons of rumors about Cannon being gay, but either way I bet he’s never seen Mariah naked. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m not so sure Tommy Mottola ever did either.

Piers is fine as a judge. He’s the Simon for this show. Sharon I love to hate, so she can stay, but the Hoff has to go. He keeps saying, “I don’t want to say anything negative.” That’s your job doofus. I’m far enough into watching the show that I won’t stop now, but I’ll be glad when its over so I don’t have to see the overpaid judges and commercials for “Mercy” every 2 minutes. I have no interest in watching a bunch of mediocre-looking nurses trying to save lives especially if its not a comedy.

  20. CP says:

BTW, yahoo! put a list of shows they hated to see come back (which surprisingly included “Bones”, “Smallville” and “Nip/Tuck”) and shows they loved to see coming back this season (which included the even more surprsingly “Dollhouse”). Check the Yahoo! entertainment section if anyone is interested.

  21. ken says:

CP that is the television without pity site list that you can find by linking on the blogroll to the right.

  22. Meli says:

HK is ruling the night because even with the stunt previews (arguments, etc.), someone else is usually eliminated, and it’s not who you expect from week to week. That pretty much dictates viewers have to watch the entire show to see what’s going to happen.

  23. Missy says:

BB11!! Woooohoooo!! I love that show! I wish it was on 5 times a week!!

  24. tdot says:

    yawn

  25. Jamie says:

IF two shows are neck and neck in the 18-40 demo but one has 2 million MORE over all viewers than the other…. then the two shows were not technically neck and neck. If a show had even gotten 2 more viewers than AGT this site would be harping ab out the demise of the entire NBC Universal kingdom. SO BIASED.

  26. Jamie, whether you like it or not, the industry doesn’t care about total viewers. They are meaningful for the network press releases, but otherwise not so much. If you look at trade publications like Variety, they only refer to the 18-49 numbers when analyzing the overnights. They don’t even mention total viewers.

It’s not something against you, other fans or NBC, it just really doesn’t matter much to a show’s profitability. But I agree that it’s better to have a couple million more viewers, even if the demo is tied and even if it doesn’t matter much.

  27. kev0170 says:

i dont mean u robert but my god ppl y the AGT hate… apparently what they are doing at AGT is working for them thats y they are the most watched show in the summer. A show doesnt have to have 20 million+ viewers to be a hit. AGT is consistantly scoring highly in the demos and tt so leave them alone jeez..

  28. Kev, i’m sure NBC is happy with AGT, it gets a solid, stable (ratings-wise) show that is always among the summer’s top performers.

  29. Alex S. says:

I’m surprised Shaq Vs. was actually in HD last night… Unlike The Superstars.

  30. Rich says:

I’d find holes on Lydia she didn’t know shey had. She is way tasty!

  31. Sasha says:

I lot of people said they would boycott America’s Got Talent after they unjustly sent home the talented singer Charles Dewayne last week over the dog act that couldn’t live up to its act. Piers Morgan was right when he said this is the geatest scandal of America’s Got Talent!!!

  32. Corey3rd says:

HK was pathetic when the producers thought the heavy guy peddling the mega bike in the heat and uphill would be so funny – especially since he already had one heart incident last season. then they get concerned when the guy gets rushed to the hospital. as if they couldn’t see it coming. what sort of sadists are Ramsay’s crew?

  33. JuanOrElse says:

Its so dissappointing to hear that even Shaq vs. beat out BBW on More To Love. I think its about damn time that truly gorgeous women get recognized. Its was just sad to see Kristian and Heather go, But ill still continue to watch. THANKS FOX!!!!!
