True Blood Tuesday continues: It was the #1 scripted TV show last week with adults 18-49, broadcast or cable

Somebody wrote me saying “It sounds like you like how well HBO is doing with True Blood more than you like True Blood itself!

That’s about right, really.  I think the show is good, and the last few weeks, very, very good.  But I think the results HBO is having between the ratings momentum and the DVD sales are AMAZING.  I love the show, but I’m a bit in awe of the results HBO is having with it.

By now its old news that True Blood set new series highs in viewers with a 5.332 million, but it’s also setting highs with adults 18-49.

Sunday’s True Blood was the #1 scripted television show last week with adults 18-49, period.  Broadcast.  Cable. All TV. #1 scripted show with adults 18-49.  Sure it was summer, but still.  It was #4 overall — True Blood’s 2.8/8 rating/share with adults 18-49 on Sunday trailed only Hells Kitchen (3.5), America’s Got Talent (3.1) , and the Big Brother 11 (3.0) episode where Chima Simone was evicted.

And as mentioned earlier, True Blood is floating all Sunday night HBO boats.  The same is true with adults 18-49 where Entourage averaged a 1.9/5  and Hung a 1.7/5.

But wait, there’s more.  As ever, True Blood is relatively less of a solitary pursuit than its cable counterparts.  Of this week’s top 40 cable shows (in viewers) True Blood had the most viewers per household with 1.53.  By this metric, True Blood even put the smack down on WWE RAW (1.50)  and led Monk (1.49) and Disney’s Suite Life on Deck (1.46).   Lifetime’s Army Wives, on the other hand, is a far more solitary pursuit averaging only 1.19 viewers per screen.

The third season will be huge! This is the best example of “buzz” translating to actual performance unlike Gossip Girl, nothing against the show, but the show’s buzz does not reflect its ratings

Didn’t something similar happen with Nip/Tuck on F/X…I thought it kept growing and growing during that whole serial killer plotline.

I like to double cable 18-49 #’s to compare with broadcast #’s, which would put this episode only below Idol & Sunday Night Football’s seasonal averages. Gosh.

And even taking apples vs. apples #’s into account, this episode got higher ratings than the average show on most broadcast networks during the regular season (CBS had 2.88; Fox w/o Idol had 2.67.).
