Note: coverage of live events like last night’s ABC College Football telecast makes ABC’s numbers approximate and subject to greater than normal adjustment. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate ratings.
ABC’s Saturday Night College Football game featuring the Texas Longhorns revenge match against the Texas Tech Red Raiders was more than enough to put the network atop the Saturday night TV ratings.
While it wasn’t up to the level of the season opening Alabama/Virginia Tech’s 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, the Texas/Texas Tech game’s 2.0 18-49 rating put it comfortably above the unscripted and repeat competition on the night. Fox’s reality crime duo of Cops and America’s Most Wanted was reliably in second. Not many tuned in for the repeats of the new Survivor: Samoa or Community, I’m not sure that’s particularly meaningful for either show.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Wasn’t there a Survivor repeat on at 8?
Roop, you are correct, my source had bad info and I forgot about the Survivor repeat. Fixed.
Why are there no original scripted series on Saturday, I think if you have a nice show, it could work on Saturdays…
Harper’s Island didnt do too badly on saturdays either and actually grew abit there to CBS (well better than Kings,eLI STONE, PD ,Dirty Money etc.)
Those are some sorry numbers no matter how it’s spun. Not many people are watching network television on Saturday nights. Are people watching cable and premium channels or just playing WoW all night?
It’s strange here in Sweden they show the most popular shows on Friday’s & Saturday’s
But maybee it’s just old people watching…
Iowa in prime time next Saturday. GO HAWKEYES!!
Does anyone know where to find ratings for Saturday afternoon CBS College games? I particular I was looking to see how the Tennessee/Florida surprisingly close game fared in comparison to other shows in the same period and past years Tennessee/Florida battles? Thanks!
Hmm a repeat of LAW & ORDER beat a repeat of CSI. Funny.
gbd, we’ll only see them if CBS issues a press release or much later down the road (say next Friday) in the top 20 broadcast sports list. Sports Media Watch will likely post some of the info, and well before the end of the week:

If NBC didn’t have Comedy Thursdays, they could have put SVU running head-to-head with CSI. Wouldn’t that be something. It will never happen though.
Thanks Robert. Greatly appreciated.
