Bye bye, Jon Gosselin,  Jon & Kate Plus 8 is about to be rechristened Kate Plus 8 according to TLC.   Actually Jon isn’t saying goodbye completely.  TLC says he’ll continue to appear, just less often than before.

The newly dubbed Kate Plus 8 will begin on November 2, 2009 and still focus on the lives of the kids, with more focus on Kate’s new role as single mom now that Jon & Kate have filed for divorce and have been separated  since June.

Though initially the calamity in the Gosselin’s lives spiked the ratings to lofty heights (10.6 million average viewers for an episode in late June), the numbers have dropped off precipitously since then.

How will Kate do on her own?  My guess is the number won’t be very different than they have been recently (in the 1.7 million range), but i’m sure we’ll hear on November 3.

When Jon appears will he be billed as “special guest star”??

  2. johnthemon says:

does anyone watch that show anymore? Well people watch oxygen channel so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised…

  3. Shelley says:

THose kids are so darn cute, but just kill the show….please!

  4. dkuhl12 says:

As a married parent, I would advise her to put the show on hiatus and concentrate on helping her children transition through this rough time. The last thing these kids need is to have more of their lives shown to the public. Focus on the children without the cameras around to record their every move. The publicity genereated from the show has already affected your life. As a parent it is your responsibility to not let it affect theirs.

  5. Miami Babe says:

    who cares?

  6. Kristen says:

I still watch it. The kids are adorable. But Jon’s been annoying me, so I’m glad he’s going.

  7. Brad says:

    No one cares.

  8. Chris says:

    “who cares?”

    The millions who watch it?

Also I don’t see how it’s going to be focusing on her role as a “single mom” when she’s not a single mom. She and Jon have joint custody.

On Facebook, Kate said that this is probably the “last” season of whatever-plus 8 so this is interesting to see…

  10. Spencer says:

While the kids are adorable, they should be able to live their lives without cameras on them all the time.

As far as Kate goes, your fifteen minutes are up. Go. Away.

Kate’ show won’t last long either. She’s no Kelly Ripa, Rachel Ray, Ellen. They are all bright, funny, compelling to audiences, likeable and kind hearted, etc. Kate comes off as arrogant, obnoxious and I don’t believe women will buy into her “new” single working mom act she’s creating.

The few times I watched Jon and Kate in the past…it was painful to see the then supposed “happily” married couple…on the couch being interviewed together…she was rude, arrogant and condescending towards her husband…who sat their and took heaps of emotional abuse like most married men do these days. This from a woman who quoted scripture and was a regular church goer.

That was then…this is now…what I see now is a bum of a husband who hasn’t held down a real job in many years. So Kate will end up with the kids, the house, the money, a career…and Jon is in for a serious reality check. As for those bims he’s with…they will scatter like roaches once his money runs out.

In Jon’s future I expect an arrest, an unwanted pregnancy from one of his girlfriends and a “private” sex tape supposedly stolen from his home and being sold to the public against his wishes.

From Kate I see all that money they made as a married couple being put into kids trust funds that Kate controls and Jon has zero access too. So Kate will be just fine.

    Enuff of them already!!

I love this show…and i don’t think the kids are beign exploited at all…i think keeping the show going is anormal part of their daily lives…why change another thing…Jon is a total ass and thinks that his live gets to start over again when he leaves his kids…while Kate is either working or sitting ONE MILE away from here home!…he sickens me…i hope he stays off the show…he has no heart and doesn’t care about his family…a man that is off with other women and on TV talk shows telling the world that he is in love is DISCUSTING…his kids are going to see this…and know that jon never had the kids interest at heart….TEAM KATE…and if i ever had the chance to meet kate i would tell her exactly this…good luck kate!!!

  13. wild montana says:

I think both of them should get off the TV, Pay them off 50-50 and get on to more important things.like why bears are in so much danger from people killing them by mistake. Kate has always been a real bitch to Jon,at least on all of the shows I watched she was . and the reason it did not last is everyone needs to have sex and when your wife is more worried about money and her own personal gain, then her husband’s needs, she should have been kicked out of the house sooner, and I do think her has been sleeping around on him for a long time, and got away with it.Jon needs to get together with Kates sister and see how she likes that….

  14. Mely Yoko says:

    i like childrens

  15. I love this show…and i don’t think the kids are beign exploited at all …

How is it not exploitation to put cameras into their lives on a daily basis for the entertainment of strangers? Unlike an adult who chooses to be on a reality show, these kids didn’t have a say in the matter. The executives at TLC are depraved for keeping this colossal trainwreck going.

  16. Bruce says:

I can’t believe they’re continuing with this show in any form. At certain times, both of these people have shown the public absolutely awful sides of their personalities. Apparently, since Jon has took it upon himself to “out d-bag” his wife in the horrible person department, Kate has (amazingly) rehabilitated her image enough to continue making money off of her children.

Bravo, TLC. Does anyone at that god forsaken network remember that it’s supposed to be “The Learning Channel?” Ugh.

  17. Mary says:

Good for TLC to drop that horrible example of a Father from this show. Kate leaves a lot to be desired how she treats her family and friends that were there for her when she needed them, but she really is a good Mother.

  18. mark-allen says:

    i want to hang myself…

    :-)

i agree that they looked unhappy for a looong time with kate acting the way she did on the couch during interviews…what a shrew.

but don’t forget that they make $75,000 per episode at last count…i doubt that the shrew will let that go…ALONG with all of the free stuff they get…tlc pays for all of their “helpers” and all of the free stuff they get is astonishing…

    not exploiting the children???

    come on…

  19. dessertgirl says:

The should should end. As is evidenced by the declining viewership, the show is no longer relevant. They are not a sweet family. They are an ignorant mother and six retarded tups. Why else would they have poor speech patterns and be ONE YEAR BEHIND IN SCHOOL.

I am glad that Jon is off the show and that Kate will work and have to give him half the earnings. Good for Jon for putting up with that shrew for so long.

  20. Kongame says:

Any news on 9/28’s ratings yet?
    Thanks.

  21. Diane M. says:

If they stop the show, how are they going to make a living. Will they lose the house, how will they pay for that house? He is not working, she has a book, but will 1 book pay for a 1/4 million house. Were will their income come from?

  22. Meje says:

Jon is a real jerk, no wonder Kate treated him the way she did. I used to think he really loved those sweet, adorable children, but doubt it now. He should forget about all the “chicks” he is fooling around with and act like a father. I wish all the best for Kate because I think she has a lot ahead of her in raising 8 children. I have always enjoyed the show.

  23. Jacquelyn says:

I think Kate has been made to speak as she did with Jon about helping with the children. Jon has shown what his ‘fatherly’ deeds are. He does not wish Kate to succeed in her endeavor to carry on and do very well as in the past. Jon is recognizing the lost dollars he shall miss out on if Kate is successful in her quest to show how a single mom can survive. If TLC wished it so, Jon could get burned dollar-wise. I feel certain, Jon sees he ’screwed up’ in more ways than one. I hope Kate plus 8 continues without special episodes with ‘dad?’. Kids won’t miss it and I am sure Kate will move on.
