FOX took the night in both the adults 18-49 and 18-34 demographics, with CBS winning the most viewers for the night.
Almost everything ticked up at least a little bit from last week, even NBC’s Mercy, which went up from a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating to a 2.0. Modern Family had the most robust gain jumping from a 3.2 a 3.6. So You Think You Can Dance was up from a 2.5 last week to a 2.8 last night and CSI: NY also experienced a 3 tick gain going from a 2.9 last week to a 3.2 last night.
Hank was flat at a 1.6, same as last week and Eastwick was down a tick from a 1.8 to a 1.7 and was edged out by tied The Jay Leno Show’s 1.7. Jay is holding his own against scripted content on ABC a couple of nights a week! Take that, scripted!
Earlier in the night The Middle was down a tick from last week to a 2.0.
All above comparisons are preliminary numbers vs.preliminary numbers.
Late Night: scandal seems to be Letterman’s friend as LATE SHOW again edged out Conan and TONIGHT SHOW last night with adults 18-49 (1.0 v. 0.9) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters. Conan won with adults 18-34 but it was close (0.8 vs. 0.7). Fallon and Ferguson tied with adults 18-49 (0.6 for both) but Fallon had a more commanding lead with adults 18-34 (0.6 vs. 0.4).

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Go Modern Family!
Ouch, does anyone think that Eastwick won’t be pulled before sweeps?
Poor poor Eastwick, I think cancellation is inevitable
SYTYCD is incredible….good to see it rise….its a hit for FOX…. 2.8 wow. And thats before top 20 even….will be 3.0 in a cpuple weeks…or higher.
Glee…well….come one…look at FOX Wednesday….nothing else even comes close to SYTYCD Wednesday at 7…..and at 8 theres a strong glee.
Good for Modern Family……
Good to see the three quality shows for the night actually do well. American might actually knowwhat good TV is on wedensday.
Not too bad for The Middle, its almost the past week…
I’m guessing Eureka’s producers are watching Eastwick’s ratings and writing Jamie Ray Newman’s character into Season 4.
…and FOX won the nigt in 18 – 49 and 18 – 34 because of these two strong shows.
Modern Family is ABC’s first real success in two seasons. Mercy may just survive the season, considering it ticked up, while Trauma stayed at a 1.8
Can we just flat out ban anyone who posts “first”?
I’m calling for Flash Foward to move to eastwick slot
Forgot to say YAY Glee is holding up nicely!
Suggestion: is it possible to have like litte Green/red arrows next to Ratings and viewers to depict rises/falls from last week ? just a suggestion. Not necessary but I thought it’s easier that way
No way ABC keeps Eastwick around. You can’t get beat by Leno like this is.
How is Fox Wednesday’s comparing to what they were last season?
I’m pulling for Mercy. It didn’t get off to a good start quality wise but its really picked up and seems to be finding it’s footing now. Hope NBC gives it a chance.
So out of five new ABC shows on the night… One is working (Modern Family), one is doing okay (Cougar Town) and the others are doing bad (Middle), really bad (Eastwick) and really, really, really bad (Hank).
Eastwick continues to fall while The Forgotten and Castle were up over last week. Eastwick is first out.
I’m so happy for Modern Family. Incredibly deserving. Cougar Town, on the other hand, I’ve soured on. And I can’t help but think that The Middle would be a better companion to Modern Family anyway.
I look forward to the CBS press release touting OLD CHRISTINE and GARY UNMARRIED for finishing 1st in viewers and 2nd in 18-49. Don’t get me wrong — I watched them both and enjoyed them — but what a strange hour of television when numbers that small can be so easily spun as a “success” story.
Oh ABC, pleaseeeee pull that crap called “Hank” – that show is AWWWWWFUL!! I mean, even “Shark Tank” got those kind of numbers!
The Middle & MOdern Family were FANTASTIC last night!
Bill Cosby was on Leno’s show last night (not sure how much of a demo draw he is)….but boy, was he acting loopy last night…I couldn’t understand ANYTHING he was mumbling.
Aaron, comparing last night to the similar night one year ago is difficult because last year FOX was already airing baseball — last night was better than game 5 of the NLCS. The other networks are hard to compare too because of presidential debate coverage.
Wednesday night is not a totally awful night for NBC. “Mercy” apparently was up from last week by about 11%. It’s certainly doing better than “Hank” among the 18-49 demo and comparable with “The Middle.”
L&O: SVU seems to be getting rediscovered by it’s audience. It still has a way to go.
Leno had over a million more viewers than “Eastwick” and a slightly higher demo, and one which for this show NBC says is a ‘homerun.’
I do have to wonder how NBC would fare if it put comedies on at 8PM to counter ABC and CBS? I think it would be interesting to see how 30 Rock would do at 8PM on Wed with, perhaps, P&R on at 8:30.
I would then leave “Community” on after “The Office” and maybe they could put “Parenthood” on Thursdays at 8?
I think Eastwick is definately going first with Hank, Modern Family should move to the 8 o’clock spot, and Romantically Challenged to 9.
Ugly Betty to air on Wednesdays!
Modern Family was hilarious last night! I’m glad to see those ratings
Too bad about Hank. The first two episodes were so bad that I think the damage has been done there. Last night’s episode was actually pretty good.
Hank is about to be dead and The Middle gets stuck with them!!!
i have been rooting for “hank”, but after seeing the first five minutes last night, switched to “mercy”…and i hate “mercy”.
who is writting this slop for kelsey grammer…he deserves alot better than this…and in fairness…”mercy” was a little better last night than before.
I will never understand why people constantly claim that a show that is doing well in its first season should be moved. Seriously, don’t mess with something that works.
I’m curious whether ABC will try out Eastwick with a better lead in (DHW,GA,DWTS), maybe it would surprise them.
I still believe it would be perfect for CW paired with The Vampire Diaries, even if it loses more viewers during the transition.
Mercy is pretty good in total viewers for NBC this year, and if it manages to stay around or above the 2.0 18/49, I think it would definitely have a chance for a back9 or at least back”some”.
Modern Family and Cougar Town stabilized at a good level, good for ABC.
Great for Modern Family, The Middle is doing bad for its lead in, please ABC cancelled Hank it is doing even a bigger screw on wednesdays and The Middle is doing as everything as it is possible was up 0.4 and more than 500,000 viewers from Hank, it(TM) really deserved the full season pick-up, about Eastwick, well, doesn’t matter let leno win at least one night in the week.
I don’t know if i’m wrong but I see like if all CSI’s are going down in viewers and specially NY besides demo
@ Chuck, that’s crazy. NBC needs to keep its comedy thursdays, six comedies on a wednesday night in the 8:00 hour is insanity.
Wednesdays at 8pm is a slot where no show really dominates, CBS really needs to reconsider about the second comedy block because a drama or reality show would really boost the night and maybe help CM and CSI:NY.
Criminal Minds was on par with last week while CSI:NY was up and did similar to CSI:Miami, the pairing of these two works and CSI:NY has an the least erosion of viewers in comparison to Miami and the original.
I thought Modern Family ended up with a 3.4 in the finals last week. Either way, great news for Family. I just watched the music video for Dylan’s song and laughed even harder than I did last night.
I for one like Mercy, it’s not great but there are plenty of worse shows on tv.
Julia, the fact that moving shows around on the schedule is rare doesn’t stop people from suggesting it constantly!
Is the Middle this seasons Southland ?
People People People, start watching eastwick! its such a good show.
I agree about Bill Cosby being totally confused and wacky on Jay Leno last night. Maybe his age is showing? I can’t believe he is able to tour if he acts like that each night. Maybe just an off night for him?
So if we just went by ratings Melrose Place, Top Model, Eastwick, Hank, The Middle, Jay Leno… Basically anything that gets lower than a 2.0 should go? Everyone sees that the 8 & 8:30 time slots get lower ratings than 9 pm an up – right? Most jobs and family responsibilties take us past 8:30… I just get to relax in front of a tv at about 9… Am I the only one?? Does everyone get off work at 4??
Would ABC take a chance on swapping Castle and Eastwick for a trial run?
Despite the low demo Castle has been steady with around 10 million viewers and has gained each week. It hasn’t had any problem beating out Leno either. Eastwick would surely rise after DWTS but I don’t think it does any better than Castle does there. And it’s possible Castle beats out Leno on Wednesday nights.
I hate this idea but nothing ABC does would surprise me.
Cougar Town seems to be failing behind Modern Family more and more each week.
Modern Family looks like its going to be the only real success story of ABC’s new comedy block, despite all the pre-season buzz on Cougar Town, which I think will fade as the season goes on. I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed the two episodes of Modern Family I’ve seen, not enough to go out of my way to watch it every week but it seems to be a stronger show than Cougar Town. Hank and The Middle are both dead, I wonder if ABC regrets ordering more episodes of The Middle yet? If they don’t I’m guessing they will by mid season.
Amazingly it was also a night of good news for NBC.
Mercy made its case to stay over Trauma with a nice increase and assuming that holds in the finals and can be maintained Mercy should still be on the air through to the Olympics. I do however wonder where that increase came from. In other good news SVU is slowly making up some of the ground it lost over last year, which might be the best news NBC has had all season. And then to top of the night Leno didn’t lose his slot again. It is however sad that a 2.0, 2.7 and 1.8 can be considered wins for NBC.
CBS can celebrate their 8PM comedy block handily beat ABC’s although that’s a sign of weakness on ABC’s part more than strength on CBS’. And New York was back up from last weeks worrying drop. It’ll be interesting to see how the sweeps CSI crossovers effect the numbers for the franchise.
The CW meanwhile was The CW…
“Mercy” will be picked up (unless a certain exec producer has pissed off NBC more than the rumors suggest). “Hank” might get an extension if ABC likes it creatively. Personally, I really liked the third episode (second taped). The show is definitely finding itself and deserves some time. “Eastwick” of course is toast. Too bad — it looks great and is a lot better than some junk that’s found an audience this season, but it was too hard a sell and ABC needs the room.
And since it can’t be said enough, “The Middle” is the best new show of the season. Spread the word.
John, I’m not sure it is insanity. I remember when NBC moved “Fraiser” from Thursdays to Tuesdays and opened another comedy night with FRaiser as it’s mainstay. After four seasons “30 Rock” should be able to do well on its own without having to depend on “The Office.” “Community” performed pretty well after the “Office” and why not give it a chance to stay there and build an audience?
But on the other hand “Mercy” isn’t doing awful on Wed and came in second overall in audience numbers and perhaps NBC should consider keeping it there.
Hmm SUV is slowly getting better. Like considering how bad the premiere viewship was its grow now to almost 9 million. I think its possible for the demo to reach 3.0 soon and maybe nearly 10 million but we’ll see the move from 10 really hurt it. Eastwick is finished. I don’t give Hank long either. Mercy could now survive the season if it can hold those sort of ratings. If the demo can increase slightly it will be fine.
Tracy, Since Leno’s show is so much cheaper than scripted shows, it’s ratings standard is far lower, but less than a 2.0 demo rating from Sunday-Thursday and your show (on Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS) is a goner.
As for viewing by hour, last night the % of US TV sets in use by half hour were:
8pm 59.2%
830 61.9
900 63.6
930 63.2
1000 59.1
1030 55.4
Thanks Bill – that makes sense!! Now I understand all the cable talking heads surviving even though they are not “news” and only talking about one thing like Kaleigh or Haleigh… (i rant…).
Yes – glad to see Hank and cougartown better shows this week – the middle still feels so forced!!
I’m sad for Eastwick. I think more people should give it a chance. I did, and it is actually really cute and funny (I wasn’t expecting it to be). Plus, it has an Everwood alum writer and is filmed on the old Gilmore Girls set. Two extra pluses. It’s probably my new favorite show of the season. Figures.
Eastwick and Hank are toast.
Bill posted the percentage of homes viewing by half hour above. For our purposes, though the far more interest percentage is the percentage of the 18-49 population viewing (and this and Bill’s numbers are for broadcast & cable, not just broadcast):
8pm 32.5%
830 35.7
900 38.1
930 38.7
1000 36.2
1030 34.6
“Eastwick” needs to be moved to Fridays at 9pm with “Ugly Betty” on at 8pm. “Eastwick” is great! “Hank” should be cancelled immediately as it is dragging down ABC’s entire Wednesday night. I like “The Middle” and “Cougar Town,” but I find “Modern Family” is not even funny and Ty Burrell’s douchebag dad just ruins the whole show for me. ABC can put “Supernanny” on Wednesday nights at 10pm.
I NEED for Glee to survive. I’d say 7 million viewers isn’t bad. But it’s such a great show, that every week, I keep trying to get the word out. Watch the stinkin show peeps!! It’s soo amazing!! I need a second season here!
I like Modern Family more and more the more it’s on.
But I’m consistently surprised that that show is ABC Wednesday’s big standout. I certainly would have expected The Middle, maybe Cougar Town but Modern Family in my mind really came out of no where and shocked everyone.
The only show I think that “Hank” is tearing down on ABC is “The Middle” which follows it. Most TV viewers are sophisticated enough to change over to a show on a certain station that they like at 9PM. Perhaps ABC should put “The Middle” on at 8 and try “Hank” at 8:30 and it that is not successful then get rid of “Hank” altogether.
Josh B, what gave you the idea Glee was in danger? It’s doing just fine.
but there is no promo about the episode 1×05 so maybe abc is thinking about what to do. and also i was thinking that eastwick is produced by warner bros so maybe abc could sale it to cw. There magic and three woman it’s ideal for the cw
Oh.. The Middle lost viewers .I hope they don’t cancel The Middle , I am really enjoying this show . They are the perfect horrible family. I like Modern Family too , but I prefer the Middle.
re: Eastwick:
http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/abc-standing-behind-eastwick-for-now/
Please, abc bring mid-season shows now!
abc should made a remake f australian dramedy packed to the rafters.
this show at 8pm or 10 pm could boosts wednesday night.
Yeah Modern Family! I cannot even describe how much I love this show. I’m just glad the ratings are much better than the last ABC show I loved (Pushing Daisies RIP).
I am happy ABC gave The Middle a full season order. It is struggling right now but maybe it could go up a bit if paired with the right show.
61st!!!!
I have a question. I’ve always heard (from many sources) that the 18-49 demo is the key to evaluating ratings, but there is one person in the Zap2It comments who always claims that is media BS:
“The 18-49 ratings are essentially unimportant to set ad rates. The networks use them to spin their bad results…”
Now, she has no evidence to back up her claim, but I’ve always wondered if the networks ever made a statement confirming that the 18-49 is all that matters. Don’t get me wrong; I believe everyone on here when they say 18-49 counts. I’m just wondering if there has ever been any sort of statement from networks or advertisers.
iGO Modern Family and Glee! Two great shows.
Im glad 9 million is a hit. Networks should stop fighting each other and fight cable and the
I hope they keep Hank a little longer. Yeah it’s not as good as Fraiser and the first two episodes where awful, but last night’s was really funny and the show finally showed some potential. I’m really liking Modern Family as well.
And Zap2It doesn’t place a lot of emphasis on the 18-49 either, just the household shares and total viewers, and I always found that to be out-of-the-ordinary.
So what about eastwick?? Anyone know if abc want to put it in another day or try to sell it because of warner bros production??
ABC’s Wednesday night is a lot like NBC’s Thursday night. A strong core at 9:00, but the weak 8:00 and 10:00 hours bring the average way down.
Unfortunately for ABC, the 10:00 hour isn’t *supposed* to be weak.
Kudos to Leno and Cosby. Glad to see the Cos still out there doing his thing. He may’ve been a little ‘confused and wacky’, as you say, but he still brought the funny. I’ll take the Cos over any of these contrived celebrities who usually make the talk show rounds nowadays.
FCP, advertisers pay for a variety of demographic gender/age groups, but adults 18-49 ratings are both widely available and a good indication of advertising revenue potential for broadcast primetime shows. That person on zap2it doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
As for what different media choose to cover, many TV media sites don’t include *any* average viewership information and just report adults 18-49 ratings.
I REALLY like Modern Family. The girlfriend and I watch it together each week. Very funny show. I find I’ve been laughing more at this than South Park this season.
It does make for some awkward moments though… like when the husband tells the camera he would never sleep with another woman… until after his wife’s dead for a year. Those are the types of jokes that I’m learning it’s not good to laugh at… in front of your significant other.
Whoops!
I’m glad the ratings are supporting this show’s quality.
Oh… no shares today?
Does anybody think that they should move the 2nd comedy block(CBS) to 9pm instead of 8pm or would it be worse.
Memo to Eastwick producers:
find shelter on Lifetime or some other cable network rather than let your show go down the drain.
Hank deserves cancellation after last night’s episode… Hank works at an ice cream parlor! That seems like a plot recycled from Family Matters… It’s just painful to watch Kelsey Grammar sink to such a low.
They need to bring eastwick on a earlier time slot or may be sundays as a lead in to desperate housewives-think its a great show and deserves a chance-too many medical dramas out there!
Glad Modern Family is doing well! It’s my favorite show of the new season thus far.
I think they should cancel Hank and put Better of Ted or Scrubs instead. They should also cancel Eastwick and put Ugly Betty instead, but abc won’t do that and they’ll put some new show. But they’d better do that quickly because Hank is hurting The Middle’s ratings and Eastwick sucks!
I love Cougar Town, is it safe or they could move it because it isnt as good as Modern Family?
FCP, Rena doesn’t listen to reason. When confronted with facts about 18-49, she blames typos and reporters who don’t fact-check, and rampant ageism (a Hollywood conspiracy). She doesn’t base her long, repetitive rants on facts. That is why I am here and not there.
Ah, Rena used to be here too and left complaining of ageism among other things.
Wow, that all makes so much sense. I will definitely stay here. Thanks Bill and J.R.!
among other things.
Other things = Robert Seidman
BTW, to whomever was asking about the missing share data, when I originally entered the 18-49 data into the table, I didn’t have it yet and forgot to add it back. I’ve now done so.
Also: CORRECTION, I incorrectly originally had Jay Leno Show at a 1.8 A18-49 rating, but it was a 1.7. So Eastwick didn’t lose to Leno, it tied with it.
But it lost to it in the 10:30 half hour, 1.7 for Jay, 1.6 for Eastwick.
Julia- I thought the same thing about Eastwick being toast first, but according to ABC “they have faith in the show”. So to me, that’s the same as what FOX said about Dollhouse, meaning the forgotten will probably go before Eastwick…but I doubt Eastwick will get a back 9.
Jon- I agree about the 8P comedy block on CBS. They’ve tried it for years, and it doesn’t work. with CSI & CM’s numbers, the audience is there, just not biting the 8P CBS.
Modern Family!!!
i think thats my favorite new show, and i wonder how well it will do when Edward Norton goes on
Good for Modern Family. Last nights episode was one of the best. Now I just need Flashforward to go up at least a few ticks tonight.
nkinsey, it would greatly amuse me if ABC still pulls Eastwick before sweeps. I don’t put too much faith in what they say. But if they do keep Eastwick through sweeps, they will also keep The Forgotten. There’s no way they cancel the one with the better ratings (even marginally), signs of growth, and a weaker lead-in, while leaving Eastwick on.
I wish all the networks would switch their Friday programming with their Wednesday one. Man, what a crappy night for TV Wednesdays have been.
Nkinsey:
ABC’s “faith in the show” probably extends to whenever they have a probable replacement, which I assume they don’t.
Glad people are embracing Modern Family and Glee–great shows—but Eastwick is SO good!
We need to see the ad rates then it is very obvious how much the 18-49 demo counts – along with income demo (which is rarely discussed). That is why as of a couple of years ago the Office was in the top 12 in ad rates ahead of many many shows that got more opverall viewers. The Offcie gets a very young and affluent demo – that is what you want
I’m really happy that Modern Family is doing so well. That show is hilarious and it really deserves all the attention is getting.
Cougar Town on the other hand, is an OK show.
The Middle sucks! I went to ABC to watch the 2 first episodes and i just couldn’t finish the second one. I can’t believe Neil Flynn left Scrubs for this crap. and Hank, no comments, the ratings speak for itself.
ABC’s news division could whip up Primetime news specials if they really needed to for sweeps – but I think ABC’s statement is genuine. They will sit on all these shows through sweeps, and suffer the private pain of lesser ad sales with these shows than the public shame in tossing half the schedule again.
Otherwise, not much is surprising. Though I did think it would take more episodes before CT’s shtick grew old and MF overtook it.
And again, The Middle will be fine after Dancing. It probably won’t be back in 10/11, but it will be fine this year.
Would Cougartown be considered to be still doing quite well?
I think it’s gotten funnier each week and I hope it gets renewed for a full season but I don’t know what 7.9 million and a 3.2 really signifies.
Alan, Cougar Town already received a back-9 order. 3.2 is very good in this day and age. If it can hold close to those numbers the rest of the season, it’s guaranteed a second.
I think once SYTYCD gats going in the top 20 – then it might start tearing MORE into Dancing With The Pretend Stars numbers…assuming their on the same night…it looks like So You think is up in total viewers too from last week…
Oh…and….Booooo for Modern Family – another one on the list that must go away!
First, interesting there is no clear dominator in the demo last night. Second, watched the ABC comedy block all the way thru for the first time. Hank is the worst of the lot, though Kelsey Grammer tries gamely with a ho-hum script. Middle I actually enjoyed because of Patricia Heaton. Modern Family too me has some problems – its almost too obviously deriving its gimmicks from other shows – but still had laugh out loud moments. CT – I was sort of wrong. It is pretty funny, and in the epiusode I saw Courtney Cox dressed just sexy enough to surely gain some male viewership. ( Why is Krista Miller, who played a warm0hearted gal on Drew Carey, now typecast as a bitch?) Considered opinion : the future of TV sitcoms is with this kind of comedy. No cable station could afford the talent on display in MF and CT.)
Thanks for the info Julia.
I don’t know why so many people keeping moaning about Cougartown not being as good as it was before. I think it’s gotten funnier each week since the premiere, and I really look forward to it. I especially think it should do huge numbers in the women 18-49 category!
I keep recording “Eastwick” for possible season shifting. But….
Last night, while for the 10 pm time slot there were 1.22 million more viewers than the previous week, “Eastwick” lost about 200,000 viewers from the previous week. “CSI:NY” grew about a million viewers and “Leno” grew 400,000 viewers.
With the inexpensive “Leno” having 21% more viewers than the expensive “Eastwick”, I have a feeling I’ll be deleting this show from my season shifting external hard drive.
Any chance we can get a glimpse of the 18-34 #’s for the 9pm hour?
I might be the minority, but I’m super excited with the performance of Old Christine… while the numbers are dismal, it placed first in total viewers and second in the demo. How upset could CBS be?
Dave, you are probably in the minority, but I’m there with you. And as I predicted earlier, the CBS press release was trumpeting their comedies’ first-place finish in viewers, and second-place finish in the demo. I suspect CBS is quite pleased. I’m sure they’d have been ecstatic if CHRISTINE/GARY had miraculously blossomed into bonafide hits, but I don’t think anyone expected that. Bottom line: they’re holding their own nicely.
Its such a shame about Eastwick as its actually a very good show with some great actors.
I think it should be moved to sunday nights before DH
Brilliant news for Modern Family, the best of ABC’s new comedy’s, Cougar Town is starting to bore me now, Hank started off awful but has got better but i don’t think it will last, as for The Middle for me the worst of the new shows simply awful, I couldn’t believe it was given a full season order after only 2 episodes have these networks not learnt there lesson yet.
@TommyK, Networks always sound pleased in press releases, but you can’t take that as an indication of how they actually feel about a show. They can boast about something or other in a press release one day and cancel the show the next.
Holly, no, no, I’m aware that networks will write press releases about ANYTHING, and in fact, my earlier note expressed IRONY at the fact that CBS would trumpet the viewer and demo numbers — even though, by “normal” standards, they’re woefully low. But that said, I do think CBS has reason to be pleased with a second-place performance for its 8-9 shows.
I thought CT was hilarious last night. It just seems to be getting better and better. Glad Glee and SYTYCD are also doing well.
On a comparative basis, Leno did better than Mercy, while Model & Dance did about as well as each other but neither’s #’s are good, exactly.
Modern Family/Glee still top new original shows. Although actually with the two big non-original new shows down the two may be on top overall eventually. 3.8 Cleveland, 3.6 Modern Family, 3.5 NCIS2, 3.3 Glee.
For 9 o’clock hours this season, of the 5 main days, only Monday isn’t competitive; for 8 o’clock, S-Tu are.
Yes – so obvious now – The Middle and Hank need to switch time slots!! Christine vs. Heaton and Gary vs Grammer!!
The Middle, Cougar Town, and Modern Faily were hilarious. Glad to see them go up! Its great to see Glee staying steady. I will be sad if Eastwick is canceled though:( Mercy is great!!!
Hey hun! I wanted to put in a request for last nights episode of RW/RR The Ruins. If you don’t have access to them at this time, its ok. Much thanks in advance! ~ Silvia.
> “Eastwick” needs to be moved to Fridays at 9pm with “Ugly Betty” on at 8pm.
I think that would work, at least judging from my Co-Resident, who was a fan of Charmed, admitted liking “Eastwick” in spite of herself, and is waiting for “Betty” to come back. Though it’d back onto “Dollhouse”, so would go onto the DVR.
But I do think that “The Middle” is going to suffer for the comedic sins of “Hank”, since ABC will want to clear out an hour block. Can’t take it off and bring it back mid-season and hope to have people still interested, unless they kill “Hank” quickly and re-run “The Middle” midseason from the start.
> Why is Krista Miller, who played a warm0hearted gal on Drew Carey, now typecast as a bitch?
Since both “Scrubs” and “Cougar Town” were created by Christa Miller’s husband Bill Lawrence, I’m guessing she’s okay with it.

how can anyone say that Cougar Town isnt a flat out bonified success?!
YAY for Glee!!! I’m sooo happy that’s holding up nicely!!
Brazil loves Glee already!!
I need a second season!!
my guess is… it’s either trauma and mercy who’s gonna go, right now mercy has a brighter future than trauma, though im gonna wait how parenthood register in the ratings, probably same rating as mercy
and hank will be canceled probably early january? hmmm…. 1.6 share? goodbye
and eastwick went from buzz to bust! sucks for abc!
and so you think you can dance is obviously better off during the summer time
im gonna wait how modern family, criminal minds, cougar town, glee (???) , and law and order svu perform against american idol this spring
Criminal Minds ratings went up in the final:
- 13.917 million viewers
- 8.5/13 HH
- 3.8/10 A18-49
CM did win in viewers and demo!
Please post the numbers for The Ruins that aired yesterday. Thanks!
Cougar should be doing better at building on ModFam ratings and being a stronger lead-in to Eastwick so I don’t agree with those calling it an unqualified success. Hank isn’t bringing down their whole night but they need to cancel it and move on soon.
ModFam is best new show and has great word-of-mouth which is helping increase its ratings. Middle seems a muddle.
Good for Glee and its 18-34 women – a demo Fox is trying to cultivate to increase ad sales. Even “negative” news about the show being bumped by NBC’s Macy parade is good news for FOX.
DAWN, Stop repeating MELROSE PLACE, Replace it with SMALLVILLE.
Melrose Repeats and first run episodes just keep sinking further each week.
Interesting the SVU had such a large increase from the first half hour to the second.
YAYAYA GLEE AND NIP/TUCK ARE AMAZING!!!
It was probably svu’s best episode of season. Scott Foley did a good job playing villian.
Too bad Eastwick, i starting to like it, but it’s just keep warm LOST’s potential spot anyway.
I think Eastwick is exciting and keeps getting better and has good actors and story line.. Cougertown is horrible.
The repeats of Melrose Place aren’t yet quite where I had predicted them to be, but they are getting close!
Cory,
I very much agree with you on Cougar Town. Absolutely horrible, but it seems to appeal to a lot of people.
I continue to be surprised by the extent to which Eastwick is struggling.
I watched one Episode just to see what it was about and came away with the impression that it would appeal to the same sorts of people who watch Desperate Housewives or Ugly Betty, back before UB’s quality fell off a cliff.
Perhaps the “right” people aren’t checking it out, though whatever the case may be, I obviously misjudged it’s appeal.
Where did all the people go who had insisted that Glee was guaranteed to fail?
I like Eastwick, it just has a bad time and ABC should put it on Sunday with Desperate Housewives. If it does bad on that day and time, then cancel it.
Modern Family is the best.
