Reports from all over the Twitter-verse are that Castle has gotten a full season pickup at ABC.
Given its ratings stability (and actually up a tick last night) and especially how well it has performed versus the Tuesday and Wednesday freshman shows at 10pm, The Forgotten and Eastwick, it’s not particularly surprising.
Either way we’ll have Castle around all season to figure out its renewal prospects for next season.
I wouldn’t see this as necessarily bad news for The Forgotten and Eastwick – that bad news for those shows are the numbers, which are very bad indeed. Castle smells like a rose by comparison.

yay!!!!!!!!!
Wooohoooo!!!!
Thanks for making my day, Robert!
And thanks to ABC for recognizing that this show deserves a full season.
happy day! let’s hope it does well enough for a third
.
It’s nice that they were able to point to growth this week as a reason to pick it up. I wonder if it had dropped back to 2.2 or stayed at 2.3 if we would be hearing this news this week.
Castle really is the little show that could isn’t it. May should be interesting when it comes to this one.
Yaaay!! I like the show!
Yippee Wahoo!
The show continues to improve in exeuction. Hopefully people will find it. It doesn’t have the “edge” in tone that the younger demographic seems to want, but it’s a very stylish hour.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!
I love this show. Reminds me of a version of Moonlighting which I also loved until Cybill Shepherd became pregnant and then it went downhill. However, this show is just plain breezy and the banter is great. Keeps growing on me all the time. It use to be I watched it on Hulu within three days. Now it is a must see on Monday nights. Keep growing Castle. What a winner.
YESS!!! I hope they get a third season too!
i don’t watch but good for the fans and Nathan Fillion!
I’m happy that now I’ll get to nervously follow Castle on the renew/cancel blogs for the whole season. I’d even like to read the book ‘True Heat’ by none other than Richard Castle. I was afraid the show might be cancelled before I could finish the book!
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
dvikib: The title of the book is “HEAT WAVE”
And great news about the full season pick up, this show is getting better and better with every episode and the acting especially from Stana Katic (I really hope for an EMMY nomination for her next year) is simply fantastic.
I definitely agree on “it’s improving in execution” – last night’s episode caught me off guard, totally didn’t see it coming, and it was very emotional in the end… AND it still had the laughs as always. And as I said in the previous posts – it barely scratched the surface of character development and directions it could go. I’m gonna love seeing how far they take it and if the ratings improve towards the end of the season.
Farscapefan: Thanks for correcting me. I knew it was Heat Wave so no idea why I typed what I did. I guess I was too excited about the show being renewed to think straight!
Awesome news. Well deserved. This is a great show.
I only hope more people find it.
Could this show be the new bones? Starting out slow but sticking around through the tough spots and eventually getting a sizeable audience? I think it just might be.
I saw ABC advertising the Heat Wave book by Richard Castle. I thought it was part of the mystique of the Castle series and they were just playing along with the thread of him writing this book. So, this is a real book???? And it’s in bookstores?? What’s up with that??? Publicity stunt???
Yaaaaaaay, best news so far this season. I hope it stays stable and might be able to improve a bit. The only thing I am concerned about is its performance without DWTS. Dear Castle, please don’t pull a “Samantha Who” on us.
Yeah, it’s actually selling fairly well. ABC.com has 9 chapters of the book for people to read.
Full season pickup? OMG that is fantastic news!
So Castle gets a back 9, we get 20+ episodes, it’s on until May sweeps at the bare minimum… wow ABC I did not see you showing that much faith in Castle. Well done ABC and congrats to everyone who works on Castle, particularly Nathan Fillion who makes Castle as special as it is. It’s wonderful that he’s getting this success. Awesome. And I’d better stop there and let the rest of the Castle fanbase gush more well deserved praise on this show.
Geoffrey says:

The book has become a bestseller, and it’s actually very good. If you are a fan of the show, you should check it out at abc.com. I’ve read the first two chapters online and ordered a copy of the book.
Phantom: “Yaaaaaaay, best news so far this season. I hope it stays stable and might be able to improve a bit. The only thing I am concerned about is its performance without DWTS. Dear Castle, please don’t pull a “Samantha Who” on us.”
What happened to Samantha Who?
I love how Castle surprises so many people on this site, and they still don’t give this show credit. Sure, a full season pick up doesn’t mean we’ll get season 3, but let us revel a little bit instead of doubting if it would have gotten a back 9 based on hypothetical ratings. The people in charge of this site need to stop being such killjoys.
awesome!!.. its a great show with great writing.. glad it is staying around
What happened to Samantha Who?
ABC stopped showing episodes for a couple of months and then quietly burned them off over the summer, before officially announcing that it had been cancelled. It was very badly handled, imho.
I’m kind of hoping that Christina Applegate can turn up on Modern Family and reunite with Ed O’Neill. It’s a pity Katey Sagal is doing so well on Sons of Anarchy otherwise I’d have called a MwC reunion.
“What happened to Samantha Who?”
It did horribly when it wasn’t following Dancing, so it was cancelled.
I have a question for those of you who know way more about the business of television than I do. I was thinking that Castle seems like a really good show for syndication because all of the episodes are stand alone and can be re-run out of order and I think its an ABC production and maybe that’s why ABC wants to give it room to grow.
Yay! It’s one of the few shows all my family loves.
Now confirmed by the LA Times…
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/10/abc-orders-a-full-season-of-castle.html
Pisher is going to be so pissed.
Huzzah!
Sarah, Phantom: Samantha Hu was her real name – amazing what makeup can do these days, isn’t it?
…anyway, Carrie Ann Inaba had a clause in her contract saying that she was to be one of the two preeminent Asian ladies on ABC (Sandra Oh from Grey’s is the other), so they made Samantha look like Christina Applegate, instead of revelling in her actual appearance, quite similar to Chiasa Aonuma…
…unfortunately, when ABC found out that the Ms. Applegate on the show wasn’t the real one, they cancelled the show forthwith…
…similar to what Warner Brothers did to their cartoon studio, once they found out that they didn’t produce Mickey Mouse
Castle and Chuck are the best!
Umm, hadn’t it ALREADY been renewed for a 2nd season? And why would they decide not to air episodes they had already ordered? (Sorry; I’m indignant on behalf of my favorite show…It deserves better than “flat” ratings, frakking CSI Miami with its ****splutters on and on***).
Good to hear. It’s a better show than its ratings indicate. Great cast and great writing.
As has been mentioned in other posts, it is demographically rather different from its lead in with an aging and largely female audience. This why it has “trouble” retaining the DWTS audience. It would be like convincing all the disembarking Princess Cruise line passengers to immediately go to a trendy bar.
Way to go abc!! Now do the right thing and order a full season for eastwick….please?
Love the show, great news!!!
Castle will wilt as the moment it doesn’t have a big lead-in and nothing other than CSI:Miami and the sinking Leno as competition.
It’s one of the oldest-skewing shows on the air now.
So it turns out Nathan Fillon’s true fanbase is dozing seniors.
Sarah: Samantha Who performed really well in Castle’s slot – much better than Castle especially in demos although DWTS was stronger back then, too – but without its DWTS-lead-in it lost around 40 % of its audience and when the show was moved to Thursdays it died a quick, yet painful death.
@Delynn, it was picked up for 13 more episodes, now its getting its back 9.
What? A Nathan Fillion show which gets renewed? That is werid *g*
So this is the back 9 for a total of 22?
@Phantom: I really hope that doesn’t happen to Castle.
@Phisher: What do you have against Castle? And how old does Castle skew towards?
I’m confident Castle will be back next season. ABC likes it. And unless they turn around the 10 o’clock hour at midseason, it’s their best performer in that timeslot. It’s also a show, like Bones, which I predict will turn into a sudden mini-phenom when it goes into syndication (most shows can do it now with 3 seasons or so). It could then really grow into something strong.
I’ll be brief.
RESULT.
Good news for Castle…
I’m happy for Nathan Fillion, he seems to never get a break. I love his work but have yet to catch an episode of Castle yet, my DVR is jam packed. I will check it soon though.
Hellz yeah! This is good news indeed. Of course, this just pushes the “bubble” talk ’til the end of the season.
Great news!
Love me some more Castle
Castle is a show for older people I guess. Because I just don’t understand what is so great about it? It’s so boring to me.
I knew it. I called it since the start of the year that Castle would get a full season. WIll it get a third, probably not but Castle is doing good enough to stick around.
What exactly is boring about it, lindsey?
The bit I love about the book is that if you remember the episode a week or two ago when Beckett was reading the advance copy, and there was mention of a steamy love scene with Nikki Heat on page 105 – well, guess what is on page 105 in the real book???
Yay! The show is utterly charming…and charm isn’t in great supply these days. Fantastic news.
Awesome! This has been my favorite show since it had its half season last year.
The numbers are not spectacular but it did not drop below 2.0 and it is stabilizing and with its format it has room to grow and ABC sees that, I hope this could grow over time, ABC needs another stable show for years to come.
delynn: Castle was only renewed for 13 episodes for this season, the news is about it getting a back nine order
and Lindsey, what do you mean by for older people? I happen to be 23.
I’m 26 and I love the show.
Best news ever!!
Even with the numbers improving this sesaon I thought ABC would wait a few more weeks to make a decision. I’m not worrying about a 3rd season right now and just celebrating the good news that show has a full season this year.
Well done ABC.
I’m 30, btw.
Thrilled about the Castle news. Its a fun show and I am loving that Nathan Fillion is putting in all the Firefly references. Not sure who noticed the two by two hands of blue reference the week before this and it appears Castle will be wearing a Mal costume in next weeks episode. I love that Nathan Fillion is as much of a Browncoat as the fans. Its endearing.
Lee – I thought the same thing, that ABC would wait until November. I knew ABC wouldnt axe Castle now (since though its low in the demo, overall numbers arent too bad) However if you notice networks (besides the CW and NBC) have wasted no time in giving series full season pick ups. Earlier in the month
ABC gave 22 eps to The Middle, Modern Family, Cougar Town, FlashForward and now Castle
CBS picked up both NCIS LA and The Good Wife
FOX picked Glee and The Cleveland Show
The CW has yet to actually order episodes of The Vampire Diaries. It seems odd given great numbers that CW hasnt yet bu they will soon. CW has scripts though for Diaries and Melrose, which should also get a full year soon. Both VD and MP will get their 22-24 soon.
NBC has yet to make a decision on their series. While all 3 are low rated, Communtiy is doing ok and has good critical reviews so it should get a full season soon. NBC may be hesitant with Trauma and Mercy and while both arent doing that great, Mercy has a better chance to survive since its cheaper and numbers are better.
good to see
good show with steady numbers
i hope it gains ground
good for ABC
Im only 18 and i love the style of the show, ive been a fan of Nathan Fillion for along time, and Stana Katic is brilliant as well. I really hope this show sticks around, Nathan Fillion has never had much luck with shows, and he deserves to have one that sticks around.
FANTASTIC. I did a dance in the shampoo aisle at CVS!
Woohoo! Doing a happy dance. I’ve been waiting to hear this for weeks. Its the one show I actually make the time to watch live and then rewatch it during the week on my Tivo.
Pisher: Seriously dude, you need to get a life and stop bashing shows that you don’t watch. If you don’t like the show then fine, but stop trying to force your hatred/philosophy onto those who actually like and support Castle.
Glad Castle got the full year. I’m holding out hope (small hope) that the forgotten and Eastwick will make it or worst case scenario air out their 13 episode orders.
WHEA!!!!! Bill, ya got me a little nervous
Castle is my favorite show on TV right now so I’m so glad that another 9 episodes were ordered. Its numbers don’t look good enough yet for a renewal for season 3 but hopefully it’ll improve in ratings. Its format is easily transferable in my opinion to syndication.
I hear such wonderful things about this show, I am thinking I should pick it up. It is Monday at 9 central, correct? I don’t have any show during that time period anyways.
On a side note, ABC is really reeling me in hook line and sinker this year. Modern Family, FF, and V are my only new shows that I am taking on. And now probably Castle and of course Lost when it returns.
ok thank god, now you and bill can stop talking shit about it.
yes one of the best shows out there except for this weeks episode was crappy how many episodes is gonna be in the second season now??
Glad to hear it. Castle is a great show.
This is happy news. Until Castle and Ted came along last spring, ABC had been dead to me for years ( like going back to C-16). I hope both find a way to thrive.
I don’t love the show, but Nathan Fillion is awesome. About time he got a stable gig!
Hoo-Haa! My wife and I LOVE this show!!! We are turning all our family and friends on to it.
Tommy, I never predicted it would be pulled *during* the season. It’s still not likely to make it to *next* season.
Woooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Last week’s episode was one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen and this week’s episode was awesome too. I’m soooo happy Castle is sticking around. The only procedural I watch. Because it’s the only one that has something truly great to offer – very, very intense chemistry between the characters.
Folks, I never predicted that ABC would remove Castle from their schedule during *this* season, just that it wouldn’t be back for *next* season.
I have to add to this. Nobody feels woooo about this show except a Disney-paid zombie. My record speaks for itself. Like mario savio ( Berkelyfree speech movement) or Bob Dylan, I must throw myself in front of the machine before its insipidity becomes like the scratcxhing of Adolf Eichman’s head … read Arendt, and Kierkegaard. Salute us, for like the Union and Confederate dead, we must soon die.
wow moral, can I have some of what you’re smoking? You’re getting pretty “deep” when it comes to tv ratings!
Looks like “Richard Castle’s” costume for the halloween episode next week is going to be Malcolm Renyolds. Hillarous, but tempting fate, firefly was cursed.
Yeah for my monday nights! Sorry gotta go watch someone throw themselves in front of a train. Wait its actually the Disney monorail. Oh the irony.
I saw that browncoat as well!
Can’t wait for next week!
Yeah for Castle!
I don’t see why ABC doesn’t pick up more Eastwick. Sure, it’s fallen below 2.0 in the demo, but it’s not really that bad to watch. Aside from Nip/Tuck, it’s the only thing I watch on Wednesdays.
Yay! I’m so happy to see that Castle is getting a full season! It’s become one of my can’t miss shows
)
Bill – I know what you mean. ABC would never pull a returning drama. If Castle didnt get the back 9, it could have easily aired all 13 through December, like last year’s Boston Legal. Regardless of whether Castle gets a third year, all episodes will air. I always knew it would get a full year, just because it was the only surviving new drama from ABC last season, and its not doing as bad as all of ABC’s dramas from last year.
Andrew – ABC probably wont pick up Eastwick because with their crowded midseason schedule they feel that Eastwick wont improve. Last year ABC axed 3 dramas, 1 of which was doing as bad or worse in Eastwick’s slot. ABC has had trouble developing shows in that slot (Invasion, The Nine, Cashmere Mafia, Men in Trees, Dirty Sexy Money, Life on Mars, The Unusuals) ABC has Lost, Wife Swap, as well as new dramas Copper, Happy Town and The Deep End, any of which could end up in the 10pm wednesday slot.
Nathan Fillion finally get’s to stick around in a series, for now.
5506 – Yeah all his FOX series were axed pretty quickly, Pasadena, Firefly, Drive. Castle will atleast have 32 episodes total.
Castle is on its way to a full 4+ year run. It needs one more renewal then its good with ABC for syndie purposes.
Castle is exactly like The Mentalist its kind of scary but that’s a good things b/c Nathan Fallon and Stana Katic make great TV.
Thanks, Tommy. You get me. It’s what I used to smoke and can’t get right now. Damn, smoke some for me if you can.
Rob, Bill, I’d be interested to know if you guys think the apparent success of Heat Wave would have impacted this decision. We all know DVD sales can play a part to varying degrees, but do we think other promotional media plays a significant part in how profitable, and thus successful a show is?
I know Nick C is raving on his site about the book revenues. I really have no idea how big they are. I suppose they could matter.
Giving Castle the back 9 order isn’t a big surprise because of its ratings, so I don’t think there *needs* to be another reason for it.
Damn!
I like ABC but Castle is my least non-freshman 1hour scripted show in ABC
*least favorite
excellent news.I hope this will stick around for ABC.
wooohoooo glad to hear this news despite constant bleak news on this website that if will be cancelled.
gooooo castle
What seems especially strange is that while the book appears to be selling quite well, the DVD doesn’t look to be selling nearly as well.
The 10 episode season one is not exactly the most enticing of purchases. That’s precisely why a full season is so important for it to have a chance at growing – if it’s handled well, the viewers will come and the DVD will sell. It’s up to the writers now.
Wow I am very happy.
Nathan fillion and Stana are a great actors and have great chemistry.
This news made my day. Yaay!!!
Given a chance, I think this show does have potential. I’m enjoying it. Hoping against hope for a renewal for next year.
It’ll get a third season. Gets the same amount of viewers as FlashForward, and it is steady, or gets better numbers.
Wooooo!!! Yes! Fantastic news! Such a fun, charming show. I wonder if the book being on the NY Times Bestselling list had anything to do with it (or will help it get a S3?)
So what if castle was to (god forbid please) get a lower rating for the next 3 episodes then would they get rid of the back 9?
Woo Hoo! I adore Castle! I can’t understand why everyone else doesn’t love it as much as I do.
no disrepect Bill
Excellent news ! Now if we can get Chuck back on the air my life will be complete.
why not pick up eastwick? its an excellent show. the only issue is that its at 10pm and against jay leno which isnt doing too well. eastwick is funny, and full of twist. its a light hearted DH and it needs to stay on. they did the samething with dirty sexy money!!
Eastwick is doing worse than Castle and has weaker competition.
OK, I’m confused why people think this book is such a big deal. There are books for a lot of tie-in books (the CSIs, Monk, Psych, Criminal Minds, Lost, Grey’s…). Bones is based on a series of books (well, sort of…the lead character has the same name and area of expertise…that’s about it). Desperate Housewives has a cookbook. Why is it so significant for Castle?
oops,
…There are tie-in books for a lot of series….
You wouldn’t think that a cop and a writer would make a good team.
But you’d be wrong!!
“OK, I’m confused why people think this book is such a big deal. Why is it so significant for Castle?”
In the series, Castle writes a book about the female detective… he dedicates the book to her.
In our world, outside of the tv show, we can actually read THAT book, about the female detective. It has the same dedication that they point out in the series, has a sex scene on the same page they point out in the series, and has a fake biography about the character nathan filion plays, ‘Richard Castle’.
I’m sure other series’ have books. Heck, even games like Halo and Gears of War have books. But i’m not so sure it’s been done like this before…
Murder, She Wrote did that, so the fact that Murder, He Wrote is doing it isn’t exactly original.
But the point is, why would this book make such a difference for renewal if the other books don’t?
The difference from say Bones is that Bones was based on already excisting books. So they do not make money from those books and rather had to pay for the right for said characters.
This show has books written for the show by a ghost writter and gets money from that book and I am guessing there are more books to follow.
Actually what Castle has done with the book tie-in is something not seen too often. I think last one I remember was Murder, She wrote.
Yes, I know it’s different from Bones. But, how is it different financially from the tie-ins for CSI or Lost?
Should also point out that Castle is being shown or about to be shown in almost 20 different countries. Should give the network more money also.
@Versus, Are there many shows not airing in 20 different countries?
I don’t know whether the book sales played a part or not but ABC has to be happy with how well it’s sold so far. It was a rushed job and last minute idea to tie into the show this season and I think it’s surprised many with how well it’s done.
I guess it’s possible they have made enough money off it and are thinking of releasing another book or two?
Memo to ABC execs:
Thanks for renewing an excellent show.
Thanks for Modern Family, Cougartown & Flash Forward
Looking forward to “V”
Please give strong consideration to keeping Eastwick om the sched.
“Yes, I know it’s different from Bones. But, how is it different financially from the tie-ins for CSI or Lost?”
I watch LOST… and I was not aware a book was out.
The marketing of the Castle novel within the episodes is like free advertising for a product. Plus the inclusion of the book / content within the book as dialog in the episode makes viewers want to read it to ‘be in the know’. I imagine that increases sales a bit.
I bought it. (for my girlfriend… but she’s busy and I may read it first
).
At Barnes&Noble’s website… Heat Wave is rank 2, and is “Temporarily Out of Stock. This item will be available on Oct 30, 2009.”
Did LOST’s book have that kind of sales?
It had enough good sales to…HAVE TWO OTHER BOOKS. You must not be a big Lost fanatic to have missed out the three Lost novels that came out. “Gary Troup”, a supposed Oceanic passenger “wrote” another book like Castle.
There’s also numerous Lost guides, including one that somehow ties in Christianity and Lost.
And I don’t even like Lost anymore. Amazing what a little research can do.
Anyways the show is bloody amazing, the novel…not so much.
Actually, this is a perfect example of why we visit TVBTN.com. Fans are anxious to have the latest information both good and bad about our favorite shows. If the numbers are bad for a show, there’s no way to know for sure what the network will do until they actually do it. In this case, fans of the show lucked out with the renewal news. Now, we just need to monitor TVBTN.com to see how this season progresses for Castle. It’s going to be exciting. By the way, Richard Castle’s book — Heat Wave — is number 28 on the NY Times Bestseller’s list.
well ill be a monkey’s uncle. ‘bad twin’ got up to number 14 on NYTimes best seller list.
for the record. i hate lost.
i watch every episode the night its on.
but i hate it.
flash forward has the same feel and i sort of hate that too, luckily i have only watched 2 episodes.
but lost and flash forward are so disgustingly dramatic that they think every minute of every episode is the world’s most important piece of film ever shot. they give off this feeling that watching their show will somehow cure cancer, cuz it’s so darned important.
i hate lost.
can’t wait til it comes back tho! woot!
Heat Wave is #1 on Barnes and Noble’s best seller list and is currently out of stock.
It’s #6 (up from #9) on Amazon’s best seller list and is in stock.
Heat Wave is also #6 at Books-A-Million. Currently the novel is on backorder at most online retailers and will take 2-6 weeks for delivery.
It’s expected to rise on the NYTBS again this week.
@Holly
Well compared to say Eastwick that is only shown in one other country (canada I believe) it makes a big difference.
OK, how about compared to other shows with more than 5 episodes?
Well I think Castle was really competing with Eastwick and say the Forgotten for more episodes.
Looking around I can not see any countries that have picked up the Forgotten for instance.
I´m just saying that this is one more reason why Castle got a break and why Eastwick and the Forgotten will probably not.
Verus, Castle 18-49 ratings are now better than both the forgotten and Eastwick, it really doesn’t *need* another reason to be favored over them.
Great News for Castle fans! Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic have “Fabulous Chemistry” together, and I can’t get enough of them – Long live Cas-kett! The Castle family(Daughter Alexis and Mother Martha)are terrific, as well as Ryan and Esposito!
The show’s main attraction is Novelist Richard Castle(Nathan) and Detective Kate Beckett(Stana), and their blossoming “One Up-Manship/Bantering Friendship, Lust/Romance/Love relationship.”(An Improved Version of Moonlighting). NYPD interogation and procedural type investigating at the 12th Precinct(NYPD Blue). Some Quirky Off-Beat episodes like Episode 4-Fool Me Once(Twin Peaks), and Castle’s Fifteen-Year-Old Daughter Alexis and Live-In mother, Martha(Pick your favorite Dramedy Sitcom). Now throw in a lot of humor, drama, and mystery and you have Castle!
The Book by Richard Castle, Nikki Heat-Heat Wave, uses slightly altered characters resembling their TV-Show counterparts. Nikki Heat who is “Slightly Slutty,” is Detective Beckett’s alter ego, and is “Shadowed” by Pulitzer-Prize winning Journalist, Jameson Rook or “Dirty Jamie” as Nikki calls him, who is obviously Castle’s alter ego. The highlight of the book is easily the end of Chapter 8 through Chapter 10, where Heat & Rook come together during a New York City Blackout at Nikki’s apartment. You get inside the head of Nikki emotionally & Psychologically of why she is so closed off to “Loving Relationships,” in particular to Rook.
The book uses popular lines that were used on the show in Season One(Go ahead, I need the target practice), plus lines in the book are being used this season(It’s Raining Men). Also, some scenes in the book are being incorporated into this season, such as Nikki Heat likes bubble baths, now Beckett likes hot bubble baths, you have to read the book and guess what you think will be used on the show!
The Book, “Heat Wave” has been Top Ten on Amazon for awhile, Top Five Barnes & Noble, premiered at Twenty-Six on New York Times Best Sellers List(Still Best Seller), and is now mostly sold out with On-Line Retailers because of strong sales. This past Monday, at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles, at second Book-Signing, Nathan Fillion, Castmates, Creator & Producers had “Four-Hundred Plus” rabid fans waiting to get their copy signed and was a Huge Success!
Let’s get some songs written that tie-in Castle & Beckett’s blossoming relationship, and get Nathan Fillion(Dr. Horrible’s Captain Hammer) and Stana Katic(Simone, TNT’s The Librarin-Curse of the Judice Chalice), to use their vocal talents for some solo’s and duet’s on a “Castle Musical CD,” and get a Top 100 Billboard Chart CD to go with that New York Times Best Seller, “Heat Wave.”
Shiny.
I watch Castle but I enjoy the relationship Castle has with his daughter & mother most of all. Personally, I don’t think the actors who play the mother & daugther on the show get enough credit.
To me, that is the most enduring part of the show. Not much of a Beckett-Castle shipper.
Great news about Castle! I love that show.
I do think that its funny that on the next show they will air, Nathon dons the browncoat. Strange.
Apparently, there may be some other tie-ins — other than “Heat Wave” — coming up.
Hayley Blue, What other tie-ins are you talking about?
I agree: the daughter and the mother elements are among the best of the show. I love it when Castle brings his work back home, and is either helped by his family or acts overprotective due to the mystery of the week.
I barely care about any of the cops (outside of Beckett). Beckett is great, and I hope Castle and Beckett will end up together in the end.
I don’t really enjoy cop/lawyer shows, so it took me a while to give this one a chance- and I solidly enjoy it now! It’s a great hour of television. I originally only watched it because Rene Echevarria was involved in the production, and I’ll check out anything he’s involved with
and of course, Nathan Fillion won me over in the Firefly days. (Sometimes Castle reminds me of the character he played in Miss Match… always the lovable rogue!).
I agree this show lacks the edge of some other programs, but it does have quality writing. The stories seem to have a twist to them that I find different and fresh in the genre. As the article said ABC needs some stability. The major traditional networks face a reality of rating dilution due to the glut of programming available on cable. They’ll take anything to does reasonably well and has consistent performance.
Very glad to see it got a full pickup! Very good show that seems to be getting better.
Holly — I can’t say for sure if the book sales are important. However, I can speculate.
Based on a lot of reviews at Amazon as well as turnout from Nathan Fillion’s book signings, a lot of people who didn’t watch or didn’t even know about Castle are picking up the book and reading it. And loving it. And because of that, they’re deciding to tune in. Not only is it a gauge of viewer interest (and the fact it hit several best-sellers lists, including the New York Times), but it’s also a great marketing strategy. People are discovering the show because they’re running across the book. Hopefully with that will come an increase in the ratings.
Plus, the more I read, the harder time I have believing that the demo is the only thing they take into consideration when choosing which shows to renew. I definitely see the success of Heat Wave as a good sign. Wouldn’t you argue that, if the book tanked, that would be a bad omen?
yea now because of heat wave more people are tuning in to the series and i heard sales for season 1 has gone up so this is giving castle more of a chance of a 3rd season
I’m excited that it’s doing so well. It really is a great show. It has a great cast, great story lines, and there isn’t a single episode that is too dull, too over the top, or too “seen it before.” Not soap opera like, and not your average cop show.
It really sucks me in
I really like Castle, it is one of the better shows out there. Please keep it on.
Richard Castle’s book, “HEAT WAVE,” premiered at #26 on New York Times Best Seller list; the following week it fell to #28. This week “HEAT WAVE” rose to #11 on the New York Times Best Seller list, and is currently #8 on Amazon.com! Next week maybe “TOP TEN” on New York Times Best Seller list?
Thanks ABC for giving ‘CASTLE’ the Back-Nine – It’s a Great Show!
Now lets get Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic that “BILLBOARD TOP 100 Musical CD,” with the ‘CASTLE’ name on it! If you need help, I hear that Nathan’s “DR. HORRIBLE SING ALONG BLOG” creators: Joss, Jed, Zak Whedon, and Maurisa aren’t too busy with “DOLLHOUSE” these days! Let’s hire them to write & produce some songs that are ‘Operatic’ in theme!
Shiny
Thanks, ABC! We love Castle at our house. We think the chemistry of the acting ensemble rivals NCIS (which is our other favorite show). Love love love the father daughter scenes!!! I’m so excited we get a whole season. We are still in shock that Eli Stone was dumped. That was a great acting ensemble too!
Great news
You really can’t go wrong with Nathan Fillion.
Best news ever! Such a great show. Hoping that it continues to find it’s audience so we won’t have to panic while waiting to hear about a third season.
I want Castle to stay on so bad! I loved the Book too and am hoping for a follow up to the Nikki Heat saga! I also think Kate and Castle should get together stat!!!!
