Those hoping for a miracle Southland pairing with The Closer, don’t hold your breath

Don’t get me wrong, anything can happen, but not before this summer as TNT has announced its plans to run the final 3 episodes of the current season of The Closer beginning December 7.

Reports are that if TNT picks Southland up, it would make one 13 episode season out of the 7 episodes from last season and the six unaired episodes from this season.  I can definitely see that happening.  But it seems unlikely to happen before summer.  If a decision on whether to produce additional episodes has to wait that long, I don’t see it ever happening as those involved on the show will have moved on to other gigs.

Was it even a possibility that Southland would make it on the air as early as December? I mean, TNT had the premiere date for MOACA on their website for weeks now, and everyone knew The Closer was coming back for a few weeks in December to provide a solid lead-in…

I wouldn’t give up hope just yet. :D

They should just air the 6 episodes, its a lot cheaper, and after the eps are aired, TNT can make a final decision on more episodes.

NBC should bring back Southland after Chuck flops

  4. mike says:

any time slot that chuck “flops” in, southland would get annihilated in.

    Why is that, Mike ?

Because last year on Thursdays at 10, Southland was getting worse ratings than Chuck was on Mondays at 8 (a far more competitive slot). As mediocre as Chuck is in the ratings, it is very consistent and has never really dipped to disturbingly low levels (6+ million, 2.5 demo isn’t bad for NBC). Southland would have been a financial disaster for NBC, especially on Monday like Chuck or in it’s presumed timeslot of Friday at 9.
