Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for FOX’s coverage of the MLB ALCS (Yankees vs. Angels)  are approximate and subject to significant revisions in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings. Additionally, the ALCS went into extra innings and delayed the start of House by approximately 43 minutes in the Eastern and Central time zones.

It was a night of split leadership with CBS winning with adults 18-49, FOX winning with adults 18-34 and ABC winning with total viewers.

Aside from FOX’s numbers being a particular mess due to overrun of game 3 of the ALCS between the Yankees and the Angels that went into extra innings,  this week looked a lot like last weekThe Big Bang Theory was up a few ticks from last week to a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating, though last week it went from a 4.8 in the preliminaries to a 5.0 in the finals, so we’ll have to wait to see how much real change there was.  But either way, it was the night’s top program with adults 18-49.

CBS newcomer Accidentally on Purpose was also up .4 versus last week to a 3.4 rating.  Please note;  ESPN’s coverage of the Broncos @ Chargers game aired on the CBS affiliate in San Diego from 8:00-9:00 PM.  CBS ratings are tentative and subject to change.

Heroes was up a tick to a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, but Trauma was still a 1.8.   Castle was flat versus last week and you can look for it to go down a tick or so in the finals due to Dancing With the Stars overrun.

Over on the CW, Gossip Girl dropped below 2 million average viewers and hit season lows with adults 18-49.

The Jay Leno Show’s 1.4 adults 18-49 rating was its lowest rating for a Monday night show so far.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Monday night:

  • Conan O’Brien (0.8/3 in 18-49 in local people meters, encore) trailed CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.9/4, encore) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.  Conan topped LATE SHOW in adults 18-34 (0.7/3 vs. 0.4/2).
  • At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters, encore) trailed CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/4, encore).  Jimmy beat Ferguson in 18-34 (0.5/3 vs. 0.3/2).

Definitions:

*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. johnthemon says:

Good for heroes! This is the first time it’s gone up in a long time. I think season 3 episode 14 was teh last time.

It’s just a tick, but it’s still promising.

  2. Mumbo says:

It’s kind of hard to read into House and Lie to Me’s numbers too much since baseball made their airing into a big mess.

    No surprises this week.

  3. johnthemon says:

wow, at 10:00 lie to me was almost as low as Heroes, it’s hurting considering its lead-in.

  4. forg says:

Wow at The Big Bang Theory! I hope they could take over 2.5 Men too in total viewers soon

Yay also to HIMYM with 3.5! And AoP is up to 3.4,wow full season pick up anytime soon I guess

  5. Yeah, I think baseball made House and Lie To Me such a mess that even with final numbers you won’t be able to make much of it due to the weird start times.

  6. Diane says:

House was down quite a bit, but I bet a lot of House’s regular viewers turned on Fox, saw the baseball and thought baseball was going to be on all night. Also, I’m sure the same-day DVR viewing was off for those who thought they were recording House but got 40 minutes of baseball instead.

  7. johnthemon says:

@Mumbo, true especially since Fox doesn’t usually have nationwide programming after 10.

  8. rob says:

CW did a lot of promotion for Gossip Girl and it went below 2 million? Not looking good for Dawn.

All this overun nonsense is getting annoying. Sunday with CBS and Monday with FOX. Its annoying! And it caused House to drop a lot! GOOD! I hate FOX anyway.

  9. 5506 says:

I watched Heroes, 2 1/2 Men, TBBT, & CSI: Miami During this Fall on Mondays. Any other show is bull crap, unless any one can give an reason why?

  10. Alex says:

I think we can pretty much ignore Fox’s numbers this week, even in the finals its going to be hard to give any serious weight to them because of the relative time difference to the normal schedule.

Elsewhere reading the words, Heroes and up in the same sentence feels weird. I’d be interested in the half hour data for this weeks episode. Trauma is dead, NBC needs to get it off the schedule regardless of what they have to replace it with. The CW had a bad night. CBS had a great night, Big Bang is huge and watching the battle between it and House for top show of the night should be fun.

Castle holding steady isn’t bad news but it isn’t good news either.

  11. 5506 says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Kim says:

Jay is now below the lowest level that NBC guaranteed to advertisers.

  13. forg says:

Cheers to TBBT (5.1 wow!) and HIMYM.
AoP is also up to 3.4 and closing in with HIMYM’s numbers so I guess a full season renewal is likely

  14. rick says:

    johnthemon

house was also down by a few million and was much lower in the demos fox was messed up because of the baseball.

big bang theory was definately an amazing episode and the demos were amazing too. is there any 18-34 numbers for last night?

  15. Mackey says:

The 3.4 for Accidentally on Purpose is surprising for me. Last week it was at a 3.0 (HIMYM is flat).

  16. Jon says:

Looks like the overrun was more of a benefit to CBS than FOX with HIMYM and AOP up and TBBT starting to retain more of TAAHM’s audience. CSI Miami was dented by Lie to Me but still a strong performer.

  17. j says:

Well, Gossip Girl has had 2 entirely pointless and annoying episodes in a row…

CBS looks weird. Why is How I Met even when Accidentally is up almost half a point?

Fox’s #’s will change, but it’s a bit weird that playoffs actually slightly lowered their demos.

    Miami sub-4? Hmm.

  18. Rich says:

Heroes is getting the same numbers Chuck was last year.

    Is Trauma dead?

  19. nkinsey says:

Seriously, Trauma’s demo number about knocks the wind out of me. 1.8? Your exit was well played, Silverman. Kudos.

  20. bob says:

Castle stays at what probably will be a 2.3, out of all the 10pm shows on ABC, i think Castle is good to stay because it is so consistant.

  21. Brad says:

    OTH beats GG! Nice!

  22. Sparky says:

Wow a 5.1 for TBBT – highest of the night, very happy for it. Kinda shocked but at the same time happy that Gossip Girl went below 2 million viewers. Its a terrible show and yet another reason why Dawn Ostroff needs to go. Glad that Castle is holding on – I hope they keep it for the season…

  23. rob says:

Who won the Yankee game anyway? Please be the Yankees so that this nonsense ends soon!

  24. Pat says:

Are those numbers for Accidently on Purpose right? Because if so it made quite a jump from last week and probably had it’s best retention out of HIMYM since the premeire…maybe becuae no House competition?

  25. Patrick Murphy says:

NBC really should be taking notes on how CBS runs a network. They make the risky move of putting How I Met Your Mother back in the leadoff spot and put a critically-slammed sitcom in the 8:30 slot, then move a solid leadoff to 9:30, and all three moves worked.

  26. Pedro Paulo says:

    OTH is def beating GG….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    love this show!!!

  27. Pedro Paulo says:

BTW, cant wait to see Chuck come back!!!!!!

  28. TommyK says:

So I guess the lesson here is: give Fox a baseball overrun instead of HOUSE, and the beneficiary is ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE? That rating is about the only shocker of the night. Fortunately for them, last night’s AOP episode was the best one of its short, uneven run; if they had to get a high sampling, last night was the night to do it.

  29. Chris says:

btw….those are some huge numbers for baseball overun

  30. Alex says:

Pat I imagine that Accidentally benefited from the Fox overrun screwing up House’s numbers. I suspect it’ll drop down again next week.

  31. Tim says:

Accidentally on Purpose could have gone up from those who watched baseball, but not House switching over. Half hour sitcoms are pretty easy to jump into in the middle, as opposed to the other shows on at 8:40. Would explain why it was up and HIMYM stayed flat.

  32. Vamp Mom says:

News could be worse for Castle. Could be down. I was worried some of the Lie to Me audience would not tune into Castle with the runover.

  33. Tom says:

AoP significantly up for no apparent reason. Were there really that many people “killing time” with AoP while waiting for House to start?

Why is Trauma still on the air? Is it simple lack of anything else for NBC to air?

  34. rob says:

CBS goes into repeats already next week. I think its kinda early.

  35. Tar says:

    the gina torres curse continues

  36. johnthemon says:

Apparently when Heroes goes up, all the naysayers can manage to say is “pfff”

  37. Erikk says:

Looks like the ACLS major league baseball game hurt some shows ratings last night. However despite that I’m happy that One Tree Hill still was able to garner good and stable ratings & demos last night. Good job!

  38. Bruce says:

If it weren’t for NBC’s anemic lineup, they would be taking “Trauma” off of life support by now.

  39. Chuck Tranberg says:

I’m surprised that NBC doesn’t try harder to get baseball playoff’s and world series. It would undoubtedly play better in ratings than most of there current line up.

  40. rob says:

Chuck, NBC has football. How many more sports do they need?

  41. Michael says:

Why is NBC keeping Trauma on?

  42. Chuck Tranberg says:

NBC cannot be happy about the last two nights of Leno. Both have gotten below the 1.5 demo that they promised advertisers. Of course, Friday is a traditionally weak night and Monday is a bad night overall for NBC. We’ll have to see how he does tonight when following “The Bigget Loser.”

  43. Bruce says:

    Michael:

My guess would be that NBC has limited replacement options.

  44. Lee says:

It would be cool if Castle could end up with a 2.3 in the demo. It had similiar numbers last week and it didn’t tick down more than that. If it can hold on to that at least it’s still up from the first 3 episodes. If nothing else it’s damn consistent and has a loyal following.

A few weeks ago when Eastwick logged a 2.4 it was considered safe if it didn’t continue to drop. Of course it did but why would it be safe with that rating and Castle is doomed with a tick lower?

  45. Dan says:

Better retention out of HIMYM should give AOP the go ahead for a full year. Trauma is as good as dead, soon. I still think ABC will give Castle a full year despite the low demo.

  46. Chuck Tranberg says:

Rob, they have one game on Sunday nights. It’s there best night. Other networks such as Fox have football and baseball, what is so hard to understand?

  47. Ryan G says:

I’m very happy for TBBT going up, but 2.5 Men had 2 minutes of run-over, so I’m anxious to see the final numbers without all the Monday Madness that happened. Either way, it was my favorite episode of the season so far, especially with the Will Wheaton cameo. HIMYM, even for having a slow start to this season, is performing very well in a new timeslot. CBS has stolen my Mondays 7-9.
Castle at 2.4 is still better than Leno, I hope this trend continues.

  48. Diane says:

Why are all the late night shows in reruns? Letterman, Conan, Ferguson, Fallon, even the Daily Show. No one doing new shows to make fun of the Balloon Boy saga! What a missed opportunity!

  49. Flint says:

I didnt realize until much later that House was airing tonight because of the baseball overruns! Did baseball pretty much kill House’s ratings last night?

  50. Steven says:

Last season, everyone said, that OTH beats Gossip Girl in overall viewers, because of the bigger timeslot competition. Now that both shows swapped and the competition did not, there is no excuse for Gossip Girl.

  51. Luna says:

I am sooooo happy! Heroes is getting better and better!

  52. Gypsy898 says:

    @Michael

I don’t think NBC has a lot of options to replace it with at this point…

  53. Realme2008 says:

OTH is getting horrible ratings also. Compare it to last season, and the ratings have gone down a lot! Saying it’s beating Gossip Girl doesn’t matter much, because it’s also getting bad ratings.

  54. Eric (Ohio) says:

I dunno why Castle’s ratings aren’t HUGE. Like, AI huge… House huge!

Maybe it’s because people wouldn’t think a cop and a writer would make a good team?

    THEY’D BE WRONG!

  55. j says:

To be fair, Gossip Girl did yesterday have tougher competition than Tree. Gossip Girl/OTH probably share at least a higher audience with House than baseball & the 2nd CBS comedy hour is much stronger than the first.

There’s a good chance Gossip Girl still did better with the demo that the CW cares about anyway.

  56. Chuckit says:

Maybe because people are tired of violence. I haven’t seen it and I don’t think I will. Wait they do like violence and evil it is just they prefer to watch vampires.

  57. Bill Gorman says:

j, and others dancing on the head of the “who won between Gossip Girl and OTH” pin.

GG averaged a 2.3 rating in the women 18-34 demo the CW targets, OTH averaged a 2.15 (by my calculation, the CW may call it a 2.1 or a 2.2, they have more detail).

  58. Pamela says:

I can’t figure out why GG is really underperforming.

I’m not close to the target demo. so I’m not some crazed teenager, and I like the show. And OTH consistently doing better? Ugh! Why? And sorry, but Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory are just not that funny.

They really need to find a way to incorporate DVR and on-demand views because I know I rarely watch a show when it’s actually broadcast for the first time. I know it’s supposedly in the works, but I think not having a more comprehensive rating system in place has and will continue to hurt a lot of shows who have a large portion of its fans viewing shows online or on DVR.

  59. Chris says:

NBC gets great revenue from Golf events, Tennis events, and the NHL.

  60. Tar says:

Gina Torres will also be back for more episodes of FlashForward (she was on the series low episode 3) and Gossip Girl (she was on this episode) so she’s looking good for the new #1 showkiller since Rena Sofer hasnt been working in a while

  61. Riff Rafferty says:

Expect a full season for “Accidentally on Purpose” within the next 3 weeks. With the improved performance came an improved show. Last night’s episode had a couple actual laughs. The cast is finally finding their groove, as well.

I no longer will sit through “Trauma” so I can’t tell you if that’s gotten any better. I can tell you to… not expect a full season.

  62. tim says:

    Pamela,

I assume what you meant to say was “And sorry, but IN MY OPINION, Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory are just not that funny.” RIGHT?

2.5 and BBT are the highest rated comedies on television, both in viewers and the “target demo”. They actually improve in DVR viewing by almost as much as GGs entire audience. In my opinion, GG is a steaming piece of crap.

    Tim

  63. 5506 says:

J, are you kidding me CBS’s 1st Comedy Block is much more Stronger than the 2nd. Besides the Comedy Shows on Wed. Suck, that is why they have low ratings (2.0-2.9) but are still accepted on CBS. Also i would watch the ABC Comedies instead after 9pm the same day. ;)

  64. Ron says:

    From Josef Adalian :

The already red-hot “BBT” scored its best ever Nielsen numbers among the Twitter-friendly demo of adults 18-34 Monday (3.9/10), rising an impressive 15 percent above last week’s tune-in among that group.

And in total viewers, the show had its second-best ratings ever, according to preliminary fast national Nielsen numbers. CBS researchers think there’s a chance Monday’s “BBT” could still end up being the highest-rated yet once final numbers come in later today.

  65. Chuckit says:

I stand corrected Chuck did bad last year during this week.

  66. bruce says:

How bored do you have to be to watch baseball? It’s all old folks, 50 and older who watch that tired, tedious sport.

  67. max452 says:

Heroes was really good last night, glad for the uptick. If heroes could get back to a 2.7/2.8 the prospects for another season get much better. :)

  68. Samuel says:

My tv schedule was saying House at 8 and lie to me at 9… I found out of the baseball when I tuned in… So I watched house via Global at 8. I guess this was all unclear. Explaining the lost of 3 million viewers…

  69. Joselito says:

My goodness Gossip Girl at this point is struggling to even get 2 million viewers! This show has fallen like no other.

  70. Fin says:

Yay for Heroes (though I can’t help wonder if the tick up was because of no House, but at the same time there was a sports games, so maybe just rise?) glad to see it up (now twice in a row = surely a record for Heroes since last fall?).

  71. patrick says:

This forum is obsessed with CW basing form GG every week to MP is’t like people can;t wait to kick the boot in. yes theses shows dont get gfreat raitng and may not be Shaskespear but all the bitter grapes over Veronica mars and Everwood ( 2 of my fav shows) fans is just weird. I think any network showing new shows is cool and ther eis an enogh shows and audinace for everyone

  72. Anil says:

WOW OUCCHH!!! Gossip Girl…wow…the show that was getting almost 4 million now its down to 1…sad!

  73. Lenny says:

If anything, Hilary Duff is the showkiller. She was on the two lowest rated Gossip Girl episodes this season. As well as having box office flops left and right, she is a sort of jinx with Network TV. I think she was even on the lowest rated Ghost Whisperer earlier this year.

  74. Patrick, there is CW and Dawn animosity with vitriol behind it that I don’t come close to understanding. As for last night — it has been CW’s intention to get Gossip Girl out of the way of House. Due to baseball overrun last night, that didn’t happen.

  75. Lenny says:

And I’m not one to judge, but Patrick, you need to spell check before you address someone.

  76. pisher says:

“A few weeks ago when Eastwick logged a 2.4 it was considered safe if it didn’t continue to drop. Of course it did but why would it be safe with that rating and Castle is doomed with a tick lower?”

Because Eastwick is in its first season, and Castle is in its second. A show with marginal ratings can continue, if the network thinks it might grow over time. When it fails to grow–and Castle has never come close to its first season highs this season, in spite of a really easy timeslot–then it’s in trouble. Because it’s demonstrated that it doesn’t have the potential to turn into a more successful show. It’s got the audience it’s got. And with a less supportive timeslot, it would probably have a smaller audience. But hey–let’s find out. ;)

  77. Chris says:

NBC gets the NHL for free.

Last season they showed 9 regular season games…

    about 27 hours of programing…averaging a .9 rating with 1.4 million viewers.

    probably a .6 demo.

the Winter Classic got a 2.9/6 with a 1.9 demo.
    SCF game 7: 3.0/11 demo
    SCF game 6: 2.2/6 demo
    SCF game 5: 2.1/5 demo
    SCF game 2: 2.2/5
    SCF game 1: 1.9/5

    Other playoff games:

    8 games averaged a .8 demo overall.

So 27 hours or regular season programming for a 0.6(18-49) demo…(which is actually higher than MLB on FOX).

So 24 hours of playoff programming for a .8 demo(18-49)

and about 15-17 hours of SCF programming for a 2.3 demo(18-49)

It was estimated that the 07-08 season after NBC paid the bills…they shared 23 million in profit with the NHL.

So how much could NBC make on those numbers?

    they are small.

but wouldn’t they yield NBC with 30-40 million in profit.

Joe Buck recently said the only way fox will make any money on baseball is a 6-7 game WS.

So what is better..getting big ratings and losing money.

or showing the NHL and making 20 million?

  78. Mumbo says:

“NBC cannot be happy about the last two nights of Leno. Both have gotten below the 1.5 demo that they promised advertisers. Of course, Friday is a traditionally weak night and Monday is a bad night overall for NBC. We’ll have to see how he does tonight when following “The Bigget Loser.””

Probably a 1.8 or 1.9 tonight if history is any indicator. Tuesday’s usually its strongest night, with Wednesday second. Monday it suffers from a horrendous lead-in and Thursday at 10:00 both CBS and ABC have heavy-hitters, so.

Did NBC promise nothing below a 1.5 on ANY night or that the average wouldn’t be below a 1.5? Because that’s exactly what it’s doing; some nights are a bit lower than 1.5, some a bit higher.

It’s still outperforming Fox’s Friday night anyway.

  79. Jon K says:

@Chris, the NHL gets them good ratings, but the golf they aired a few Saturdays ago received a 0.6 18-49 rating. I don’t think they’re making much money at that level.

  80. Bill Gorman says:

All this “NBC promised advertisers X for Leno” is nonsense. NBC has said many things in public, “1.8 rating would be a home run”, “we can make money at a 1.5 rating” among others.

I do not believe anyone on this site can tell me what “NBC promised advertisers”.

  81. Luke says:

The success of The Big Bang Theory is an example of building a solid, likable show with a simple, understandable premise and then give it time to succeed. I love it because it has not only funny characters but lovable characters that I wouldn’t mind spending time with.

NBC should follow this lead. Stop creating shows with quirky characters who are either jerks or idiots and then ask us to take time out of our life to spend an uncomfortable 30 minutes with them.

  82. Jon K says:

@bruce, more 18-49 year olds watched the “old people sport” than any other show at 8pm, and second on the night behind only TBBT.

  83. ohiogirl says:

Jay will continue to sink with his choice to pepper every joke, every line, every skit, with trash. Not even funny trash. It’s like the sad comic that stoops to the dirty jokes to get the shocked laughter out of the audience. This isn’t late night. Even his late night show wasn’t this bad. We don’t tune in for hesadlines anymore. Everything is trash, and I’m not willing to wade through the garbage for a morsel of humor. We loved Jay, but he is now limiting his audience to a certain percentage that disregards anyone who has a remaining shred of class. Of course America is tuning out. My suggestion is to clean up the act, ax the trashy writers, pay for some real talent, or skip the poor attempts at humor and go for the interviews and musical acts.

  84. Jon K says:

@Lenny, but her guest starring on SVU led to a ratings boost.

  85. Jon says:

I wonder if CSI: Miami following the comedies is the reason it gets a high demo because it’s not exactly a young cast. It regularly beat CSI and CSI: NY which have lead ins with 3.0 demos.

  86. Tim says:

Actually, the fact that One Tree Hill continues to beat Gossip Girl even though the ratings are still not good is very significant. When it comes time for renewal, The CW will once again have to renew the veteran “Tree Hill” because it is still outperforming GG, 90210, and Melrose Place.

This proves that The CW is still unable to develop a hit in this genre. OTH’s 2.3m might not be great, but it’s a heck of a lot easier to swallow than below 2 million (GG).

  87. Jon K says:

@Tim, total viewers doesn’t matter. The CW targets W18-34, and in that demo, GG beats OTH.

  88. Farscapefan says:

@Chuck There is NO VIOLENCE in “Castle”. They work on resolving murders, but there are NO VIOLENT scenes in any episodes. The show is full of wonderful sense of humor and HEART (Beckett’s character potrayed wonderfully by phenomenal Stana Katic) and I’m sure that if you give it a chance and take a look, you’ll love the series.

  89. Toby says:

OTH is simply one of the best tv shows!

  90. lala says:

I am personally a huge House and Lie to Me fan. I think both shows are great but I NEVER have the time to watch them when they are actually on. I depend on Hulu to catch me up with most of my shows. I truly believe that the games messed the numbers up for those who watch these shows at their scheduled times.

I love HIMYM, but I have never understood the allure of TBBT. I have tried to watch it, but it is not funny. Can someone explain to me what is so great about that show. As far as I am concerned, Barney Stintson is the only comedy genius I need.

  91. Jon says:

Just when I thought Robert was back on track…. Craig Ferguson was not an encore last night.

  92. Jon says:

    Neither was O’brien and Fallon.

  93. Me says:

Glad BBT is doing so well! Last night was a great episode.

As far as Castle goes, does anyone have any idea if “Heat Wave” book sales will have any effect on ABC’s renew/cancel decision? It debuted #26 on the New York Times bestseller list, but I’m unsure as to whether that would mean anything to ABC or not…

  94. James says:

    Conan was a repeat.

  95. Bill Gorman says:

Don’t blame Robert, that late night ratings text came directly from our source.

  96. r2zv2n says:

@lala…….c’mon….tbbt is very funny-sheldon is sooo funnyyyyy…..agree with barney…this man is legend-… wait for it… and I hope you’re not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is DAIRY!

  97. Dario says:

    Heroes!!!

  98. F. says:

Gossip Girl dropping? Can the mean-richies paradigm be dropping too? Despite all the bisexual mayhem (hohum)…

  99. A5J4D X says:

so glad heroes has gone up but i want it to be even higher come on peepz!

  100. House Addict says:

House had it’s best episode of an already awesome season! It deserved better ratings.. but I guess most people consider sports more important than House. Oh well. At least TBBT won the night, that’s great news!

  101. zap2it says: Ferguson
    (First Aired: September 24, 2009)
Actor Jason Schwartzman; actress Angela Kinsey.

  102. blasto says:

TBBT and HIMYM was so so last night—amusing but not funny.

TBBT is not really that original of a show (nerds and a hot girl–where we have we seen that before) but the character of Sheldon is its saving grace. He is absolutely hilarious—maybe funnier than Michael Scott of The Office.

HIMYM has gotten to zany and has really lost its heart that was there in the first 3 seasons.

  103. Dennis says:

Man, I just love it when great TV shows become a mainstream success. Congrats to TBBT! I’s say TBBT and Hous are the only good shows left that really get the great numbers. Then there are good shows with great numbers, such as 2.5 Men, The Simpsons and Lost.

  104. Chuckit says:

    @farscapefan

Well if I want to watch murders I can turn on the local news. I am burnt out on the lets solve a murde case, or having this sick and twisted world shoved in my face.

CSI, Medium, Castle, L&O and any other cop show is all about the crazies in the world. I prefer to go to bed not thinking about how some crazy psycho killed some innocent people. I am not prone to glorfying evil. That is why I won’t watch Dexter, True blood, Vampire Diaries.

I do enjoy shows like Chuck, Lost, BBT, Burn Notice, Glee, Modern Family.

So I don’t think I will be watching this but thanks for the heads up.

  105. Brad says:

I use to watch OTH out of habit but its really become a great show since the time jumped at the start of Season 5. All the new characters are strong and I’m happy with the show in general. GG is no longer my ‘must watch’ show as I typically watch it randomly throughout the week. I look forward to 90201 now more than GG. The plotlines are just way to wacky and I’m tired of the billionaires with problems.

  106. Chucksmom says:

So, Castle ended with a 2.4 in the demo? That’s without the DSWTS overrun?

If so, Castle is up from last week.

  107. pisher says:

    Finals aren’t in yet.

  108. Lee says:

Chucksmom, I don’t think the numbers have been adjusted yet. I think they’re released later in the day. It’s most likely Castle ticks down to a 2.3 like last week but it’s up from the 2.2s it was posting for the first 3 episodes.

  109. ileandromp says:

I’m really happy that Two and a Half Men is funny again because last season sucked. I said i wasn’t going to watch this new season after the first episode of the season but i decided to give it another chance last night and i was actually pretty funny!

  110. Fire Dawn says:

    To Rob:

“Patrick, there is CW and Dawn animosity with vitriol behind it that I don’t come close to understanding”

As a fan of Smallville, alot of us feel animosity towards her because she treats the show like the redheaded stepchild of the family(moving it to Friday, not promoting it at all, etc). It’s my belief the only reason the show is on air and probably will get a 10th season is because the WB sees it as a cash cow.

It doesn’t help that all the shows she created seem to have a common pattern(ie rich white oversexed females, go girlpower). While I don’t have anything against her market plan of targetting W18-34, you think she might realize that females in that demographic group might enjoy more then that template(VD is a good example of a show that doesn’t fall into that category and is the most successful show she created, it might be in her best interest to try create shows of other genres to target W18-34 at this point)

  111. pisher says:

Actually, if it ends at 2.3, it’ll be level with its season premiere. It’s shown no demo growth at all.

It premiered last season with a 3.0 in the demo and almost 11mil viewers. Subsequently it got 2.9, 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 1.9, 2.1, 2.0, 2.8, and ended the first season with a 2.4–the lower ratings are from when it didn’t have DWTS as a lead-in.

    It’s just a very old-skewing show.

And in spite of great network support, strong lead-ins, and easy timeslots, it’s just not growing.

  112. Ike says:

Jon is incorrect; J.R. Herbaugh is correct. Craig Ferguson’s show was a rerun last night.

  113. Chucksmom says:

A lot of shows on ABC skewing to the older audience. On DWTS, they are having the couples dance ’sexier’ to heat things up….in hopes to attract more of the younger audience.

Just watch how Donny Osmond danced last night & you will see what I mean.

  114. Peter says:

NBC needs to steal baseball back from Fox. NBC used to own the rights to the World Series all during my youth, I still remember Joe Garagiola, Tony Kubek calling the games.

    NBC just needs help, period.

  115. JS says:

Josh and Stephanie just have a hard time taking a show past a couple seasons before it becomes stale. GG is another casualty like The OC.

  116. Fire Dawn says:

“Josh and Stephanie just have a hard time taking a show past a couple seasons before it becomes stale. GG is another casualty like The OC”

*hides his head*I watched the OC, the main problem with the show was they did like 5 seasons worth of storylines in the first season. By Season 2 we basically seen everything that they could have built up to by the first season.

The show felt like the McDonalds of teen angst shows with all it’s quick plots.

  117. thirdsaint says:

Yeah, that stupid baseball game ruined my DVR recording so I will be having to watch it online tonight. I know I’m not the only one that was screwed over and missed though so those numbers are going to be very misleading. :-/

  118. Cody says:

yeah i have given up on heroes after last week good bye

  119. Gerry says:

Good to see the number one Castle basher is back, and as usual is full of “pish.”

  120. Sparky says:

    Firedawn/Rob

There are far too much of the same type of shows currently on the CW. The WB had a good mixture of different type of shows but at the end there were all targeted towards the market that mattered and a few of us oldies also tuned in. None of the new shows that Dawn Ostroff has brought in have been anywhere close to a success. If my understanding serves me correctly the Vampire Diaries was included in the schedule because Les Moonves wanted it. had the decision been left to Dawn Ostroff she would have kept it off. In my opinion she should have capitalised on whats left of Smallville as a show and come up with a spin-off to that show for this season and put both of those shows back to back on a Wed or Thurs night. Left Fri to the WWE and the weekend schedule to the local networks. Body Politic and Life Unexpected on Monday or Tues nights. Of the current 4 remaining shows I’d probably go with OTH and MP on the other night just because I think the others are awful. But thats just me…

  121. Sparky says:

I should have said that TVD and Supernatural make good sense together..

  122. Budo says:

Heh… if there’s a show that can “grow”, it’s Castle. It’s still rock solid in the ratings, which is not that good, but is far from bad in this TV climate. Story-wise, they have barely scratched the surface. The sales of the book “Heat Wave” are showing that there’s huge merchandising crossover potential there. Hell, Nathan Fillion did a book signing yesterday, I’m guessing in character. As was said a million times already, the chemistry among the cast is awesome, the humor is excellent, and still the murder mysteries are engaging and fun to decipher for the procedural fans. It’s hardly an asset to be easily discarded.

  123. j says:

“J, are you kidding me CBS’s 1st Comedy Block is much more Stronger than the 2nd”

I said comedy hour. I mean, unless One Tree Hill or Gossip Girl even though they’re on Mondays’ direct competition is CBS’ comedies on Wednesdays.

Also, why can’t you capitalize things correctly?

  124. Michael says:

Finals are in- Castle kept a 2.4. Maybe there’s hope for it yet.

  125. porky says:

I think Heroes is having it’s best season since Season one. The last two have been garbage, but I actually am enjoying this year. Ratings aside, the quality of the show seems to be improving.

Not much you can do with the House and LTM numbers. I had LTM on my DVR and didn’t adjust accordingly so I missed the episode or most of it.

The Big Bang Theory is really a machine though. I’ve been watching it since episode one and it’s just a really funny and well thought out show. It’s proof that if you put out quality, viewers will tune into it.

  126. JS says:

“The WB had a good mixture of different type of shows but at the end there were all targeted towards the market that mattered and a few of us oldies also tuned in.”

Yeah it wouldn’t kill Dawn to look back at The Wb and see what worked: Dawson’s Creek, Felicity (that won a Golden Globe), Buffy, etc…

  127. lainey says:

I wish that ABC would really push a promotion for Castle. The show has some very good points. It has romance potential. It has a teenage girl who actually isn’t played as a basket case or a snot, just a nice kid trying to grow up. The supporting characters are likable, even Susan Sullivan’s self absorbed mom persona is still likable. Last I saw it had a good balance between the characters interaction and the plot line. I hope they give it some more time. I don’t know if moving it, if that becomes a possibility, would help it. Too bad they couldn’t show it some Sunday night along with Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters and see if that audience just might not have gone out of their way to check it out.

  128. The Punisher says:

Poeky the BBT is trash along with all the other shallow stoopid sitcoms. Last good sitcom to go off the air was Frazier.

    Oh and Heroes ROCKS!

  129. The Punisher says:

Oh and Dawn Ostroff is an idiot!

  130. Tim says:

@Jon K — I understand that The CW relies on the female demo, but to say that total viewers doesn’t matter just isn’t the case. If GG is beating OTH in the female demo but less than 2 million people overall are watching it… the advertisers still won’t be happy. OTH is performing just fine in the female demo and is managing to stay about the 2 mill mark … it’s clearly in much better shape.

  131. Good to see Heroes went up a little. Hope something can help NBC on Mondays. I was watching the Chargers game and taped Heroes and Two And A Half Men.

  132. Kath says:

Shame baseball screwed up Houses numbers last night. It was a really great episode. I see the 8pm hr was 14mil for the game overrun, people did not want to hang around watching baseball, when they wanted to see House. I live on the west coast, so we saw the show at the normal time 8pm PST. Did fox give enough notice on the east coast that House and Lie to me would be shown after the game?

  133. Catherine says:

A lot of the late night shows have repeats the week before ratings which start next week. Daily Show usually has a week off during ratings. Not sure why. This time they are off too. Don’t know why they are doing that either since it was not too long ago that they had three weeks off.

  134. Sparky says:

If we needed further proof of CW craziness a list of shows that were given back nine and further scripts were announced and The Vampire Diaries and Melrose Place got further script orders were announced… Pick TVD up – its a hit…

  135. 5506 says:

@j, Your comment, “Also, why can’t you capitalize things correctly?”

    My Response: Hello, Autism. :D

    F******* A** H***

  136. 5506 says:

    P.S.

This is how i Always Comment. Don’t Judge ME.

  137. 5506 says:

    I don’t think that’s the right link.

  138. BB says:

I think GG’s audience is just too young or college oriented to accurately record. Most people watch it online. Just look at itunes sales. GG is currently #1 while OTH is #5. Even GG’s episode from last week is still in the top 15, while OTH’s is somewhere down in the 70s. I would think that is indicative of other forms of online viewership. GG might not have as big an audience as OTH during it’s timeslot, but I bet it has a higher total overall.

  139. Carol says:

Heroes ratings are dismal to me. A 2.5 and less that 6 million viewers? Not good for such an expensive show. I had watched its previous seasons but decided not to bother this season, especially since they killed off Nathan for the awful Sylar character. Heroes had a great first season but hasn’t been good since then for me.

  140. Pamela says:

    Tim,

Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory could be the the highest rated shows in television history, but IN MY OPINION that does not make them good shows.

  141. PatPrez says:

Love that TBBT is doing so great. Love the show. But why is CBS airing repeats next week? Everyone else is airing new episodes.

  142. aznfratboy says:

Please noone take this offensively, but does noone know how to use a remote control or a TV guide? Now, I watch a variety of TV shows on the three main channels we have in Australia. Now, on one channel we have 2.5 Men at 7:30, then Big Bang Theory 8pm then The Mentalist 8:30. Now seeing as I don’t watch The Mentalist, I use my remote, and a TV guide, switch over to another channel and watch FlashForward to watch a TV show I do like. So what I’d like to know is… why are lead ins so important, or is it as humans, we are unable to change the channel?

  143. Vader says:

Why the freaking crap does FOX insist on this nonsense of “we won’t let House episodes go on the internet until 8 days after the episode is aired, so if you miss it, you’re screwed!” I mean seriously, this is just screwing people over for the hell of it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who recorded 45 minutes of baseball coverage last night who’s ticked right now. This is sheer lunacy!

  144. Dan says:

PatPrez – Every year, the last week of October, CBS airs reruns of all their series, and then November sweeps comes and then back to repeats for December. CBS does this to avoid running out of new episodes.

  145. Julia says:

Vader, I’m not positive it will be there, but if you haven’t checked fox.com, you should. Last season House would go up there the day after airing, while not showing up on Hulu for 8 days.

  146. haaris says:

    COME ON HEROES
ITS BEEN REALLY GOOD L8LY BUT I THINK THE BXT 2 EPISODES WILL BE AVERAGE BUT ITS LIKE SEASON 1
IT NEEDS TO GET TO 2.7/3MILLION
AND AT LEAST 6MILLION VIEWERS BY THE END OV THIS SEASON
START WATCHIN IT PEOPLE CAUSE ITS BEEN BRILLIANT THIS SEASON

  147. Emma says:

I just love how OTH still is the top show after 7 seasons.
All you Gossip Girl fans just can’t stand the fact that your show is about pointless people with so called fabulous lives. That’s not realistic. You want to know why OTH is the top show? Because people can relate to it. OTH may only have 2.3 million viewers but that’s a whole lot more than Melrose Place, 90210 or Gossip Girl. When it comes to renewal time, OTH will be saved first.

    :]

  148. gene says:

I find the characters they choose to focus on, storyline-wise in Gossip Girl this season, a bit odd. It seems, from press and websites, that Vanessa and Dan are probably among the least popular (along with Rufus), while Chuck, Blair and Serena the most lauded among fans. And yet, every week I seem to be having to sit through more and more Dan and Vanessa screen time… when ratings are a bit low, seems an odd time to try and push the less popular characters onto fans…

  149. L. W. says:

I’m so worried for gossip girl…i love it and i don’t want it going anywhere. But i am so happy with castle, it is a really good show, so well written. I am happy it’s doing ok.

  150. Brian D says:

I loved that episode of TBBT where Sheldon gave Penny chocolate to modify her behavior. It was big time hilarious once you got the hint why he was doing it.
