Syfy Top 10: Stargate Universe falls in week 3; still Syfy’s second most-watched show

I’m a long-time fan of the Stargate franchise, but so far Stargate Universe hasn’t moved me.  I watched the first couple of weeks, but it didn’t reel me in.   Then again, the Original Stargate: SG1 didn’t reel me in until about the fourth season!  Ultimately I went back and watched all of them.  I also enjoyed Stargate Atlantis, even if it did get sort of tired for much of the last couple of years.

With these shows there are always things that wear on me. In SG1 for example, after a while I’d cringe when I’d find out it was yet another episode featuring replicators, and though I loved the character Teal’c, the episodes that centered around him…not so much.    But I lump that into the “it’s always something” bucket.  With Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes featuring visits from Lwaxana Troi weren’t for me, and on Deep Space 9, it was episodes that centered around the Ferengi.

So far I’m just kind of blah in general on Universe. I haven’t watched last week’s episode yet, and I don’t have it on the list of things to do.  But with these things I can change on a dime!

Anyway, on to the numbers.  Here’s the top 10 shows in average viewers for Syfy for the week ending October 18, 2009:

Show NET Day Time Viewers Live+SD (000)
GHOST HUNTERS SYFY Wed 09:00P-10:00P 2,909
STARGATE UNIVERSE SYFY Fri 09:00P-10:00P 2,099
DESTINATION TRUTH SYFY Wed 10:00P-11:00P 1,986
SAW III SYFY Sat 09:00P-11:30P 1,957
GHOST HUNTERS SYFY Wed 08:00P-09:00P 1,845
SANCTUARY SYFY Fri 10:00P-11:00P 1,766
SCARE TACTICS SYFY Tue 09:30P-10:00P 1,612
SAW II SYFY Sat 07:00P-09:00P 1,596
WOLVESBAYNE SYFY Sun 09:00P-11:00P 1,543
SCARE TACTICS SYFY Tue 09:00P-09:30P 1,402

Stargate Universe dropped 14 percent from the previous week’s 2.447 million.  Meanwhile Sanctuary dropped, but not nearly as steep, off 4.5 percent  from last week’s 1.85 million.  But Ghost Hunters was up 6 percent from last week’s 2.74 million.

  1. The_GodfatherSJP says:

Just out of mild curiosity, how did you feel about Battlestar Galactica?

  2. I LOVED the mini-series and really liked the first 1.5 seasons or so very much.

By season 3 I was skipping episodes or doing a lot of fast-forwarding, though I did ride it out all the way to the end and watched all of season 4.

  3. Jon says:

Wasn’t SGU against Baseball? May explain the drop from last week. Sanctuary is doing pretty well although I’m not sure if it will be enough for Syfy to renew it for a third season ATM.

  4. Jon, SGU was against baseball in the east/central time zones, but so was Sanctuary.

  5. Mark says:

I enjoyed this weeks SGU a lot, was probably my favorite so far.

  6. cress says:

Yeah, SGU hasn’t moved me that much either. I like the darker tone, but it feels like Atlantis with a different crew and setting. And Atlantis got old really quick.

I’m with you Robert on BSG. The mini-series and season 3 was the peak. And I was pissed how it was rushed into a crappy finale. I hope LOST doesn’t go out like this.

  7. Adam says:

SGU needs to wrap up the “ship is in trouble” storyline and get on to the actual star-gating. If they drag this out too long, people will lose interest.

  8. Cimmer says:

I think there are a lot of people who are kind of ‘meh’ on SGU. They don’t hate it and they don’t love it (at least yet); it seems to be in a holding pattern. It’s a little like waiting for the other shoe to drop. ‘Meh’ is a pretty rough place for a show to be but at least there’s hope? ;)

  9. MooTrain says:

I like SG:U so far. I like it a lot.

SG:U has one logic hole that’s holding it back from being great. We’ve got Rush, who needs to establish his character as a ‘great’ scientist who can repair the ship, etc. etc. However, they’ve got these meeting stone things that let two people body swap.

So explain to me why we’re not having Carter, Daniel Jackson, or Rodney McKay on board the Destiny, helping out to fix anything and everything that’s wrong with the ship?

  10. MooTrain says:

And as soon as you read that, you will spend the rest of your time watching the show thinking about that.

  11. Marc says:

    Hey Robert,

Excellent article. I know we’ve been chatting since SGA’s 4th season. I really miss SGA and felt that it was producing some of it’s best eps in Season 4 and 5. Season 5 dipped a little, but I think Season 6 would of been epic.

I also agree about BSG. The first 2 seasons were excellent but then it just went off into a soap opera mode.

I am enjoying SGU, and I think there is going to be more exploration and adventure as the show goes on this season. That is something Stargate has always been about, exploration and adventure. At least they still got the comic relief.

  12. Adam says:

MooTrain just ruined the show for me. Yes, they should body-swap all the useless people out and move in the competent, intelligent people who could actually do some good. DAMN YOU, MOOTRAIN!

  13. xedout says:

It’s on the viewing bubble for me. It’s still mainly ‘meh’. Not happy with the show’s portrayal of women. Gratuitous body part shots? C’mon Stargate guys. Grow up.

  14. cress says:

Stargate needs a reboot. Brad Wright and Robert Cooper probably thought this would do it for fans. But…not so much.

  15. cress says:

It is still Atlantis with a different paint scheme

  16. cress says:

BUT…this is only three episodes into this season. I will reserve final judgment for later.

  17. Outlander says:

What do you all think of Sanctuary? I think it’s much improved for the first season and, frankly, Amanda Tapping & Co deserve a lot of credit for putting that product together on virtually no budget.

  18. Chad says:

Those mind swap stones are stamped on who can transfer. Sooner or later they will stop working or have side effects.

Ming-na is being bumped to a regular, so there’s one “strong” female lead on the cast. The other two regulars consist of a shaky medic and manipulating eye candy.

Being that I’ve never watched BSG, with the exception of the Caprica movie, I’m not experiencing the dark/gritty burnout or can make the comparisons. Does that make me fortunate?

  19. xedout says:

Outlander, I liked the ‘Sanctuary’ premiere. It was hit-and-miss last season. Some good eps, some not so good ones. About halfway through the first season, it seemed to find itself. Maybe that’s when the delightful ‘Tesla’ character came aboard. The snark and arrogance works.

The second season premiere came off fairly strong. And much more enjoyable than SGU. Soem of the fight scenes could have been shorter, the green screen is still a bit problematic. The acting performances were good. Action, character development, a bit of humour thrown in. Fun stuff.

I’m not sure about the new Kate Freelander character. She didn’t do much for me. Killing off ‘Ashley’ was a good creative decision. I didn’t find her too well-developed in the first season.

The older ‘The Five’ characters are the most interesting.

I was also hit-and-miss with BSG. The miniseries and first season or so I really enjoyed. It seemed to flounder for a while and then picked up for the last season. The ending seemed rushed or maybe it was that way to leave room for a few ‘direct to DVD’ movies.

  20. DW says:

I think BSG had one of the most brilliant and beautiful endings I’ve ever seen to a TV series. The only time the show faltered was in season 3, which was very uneven.

As for SGU, I gave up on it after the second week. Much like FlashForward feels like the crappy version of Lost, SGU feels like the poor man’s BSG.

  21. Tks says:

I never liked any of the other stargate shows. But I do like scifi. So I gave SGU a chance and I like it a lot. But I liked every episode of BSG. So maybe I’m in the minority here, as usual.

  22. Dirk says:

It’s still trouncing Dollhouse all the same.

  23. The1337 says:

I sure hope SGU gets better soon. It’s vastly different than the other Stargate shows, but isn’t nearly as good as BSG is either.

  24. Pam says:

I didn’t like it at all. I have given it 3 episodes to interest me and if anything it just makes me wonder why on earth they cancelled Atlantis, that show to me was a lot better than this and my kids could watch it.

I am very disapointed and I won’t be watching this show again its sad that Stargate has gotten this bad. I have watched since the begining with SG1.

They should have let this be a completly differint show thats not even tied in with Stargate because to me its not stargate at all.

  25. Pam says:

Oh and btw I liked BSG at first and then it got so boring that I ended up stop watching it. This show reminds me alot of BSG.

  26. Peter says:

Another here who loved the BSG pilot and most of season 2. Specifically it jumped the shark when Apollo put on the fat suit and Adama grew a ’stache. After that it started seeming less realistic and more soapy to me.

Unfortunately SGU seems to have latched onto later soapy BSG as a model, not early good BSG.

  27. Willmore says:

I would be fine with the BSG model, if the writing/producing team at Stargate could pull it off, but they can’t. The writing just isn’t up to snuff. Stargate should stick to what it knows best – doing some good sci-fi episodes, some action episodes and some stuff in between. The show was best when they visited worlds that had nothing to do with the main plot of the season.

  28. Kermonk says:

    MooTrain says:
“So explain to me why we’re not having Carter, Daniel Jackson, or Rodney McKay on board the Destiny, helping out to fix anything and everything that’s wrong with the ship?”

Well the obvious reason is that they are gone, they are ex actors (from this franchise) only used for the very very rare guest show and movie.

The less obvious reason (according to the writers) is they’ll tell us in about episode 10 why this hasn’t happened. Given the amount of bitching this has caused on the internet perhaps they should have mentioned *it* (whatever it is) in episode two.

On the third hand, either people like a show or they do not, if they don’t like it they’ll always find something to complain about, and if they do like it they’ll just ignore “problems”.

Personally it seems to me that only a few days has passed, and there is a time for everything.

As for the show, episode 3 was fairly unengaging with the running around in a desert.

Episode 4 was somewhat better, i think its slowly improving, and I might even end up liking by the end of the season *g*

    Pam says:
“I didn’t like it at all. I have given it 3 episodes to interest me and if anything it just makes me wonder why on earth they cancelled Atlantis, ”

Too expensive to make vs the viewers.

“that show to me was a lot better than this and my kids could watch it.”

In general the audience for the other stargates was too old form a monetary view (your kids not withstanding).

  29. Delynn says:

Yeah, um. I’m surprised the folks at the channel formerly known as SyFy still trust the folks (well, um, idiots) at Nielson to decide when to cancel a show. SGA’s 5th season sold like hotcakes (over 100K in the first week alone) when released on DVD.

I liked SGA better than SGU. But I watch SGU. Not for the bigwigs and the people who cancelled Atlantis (I hate them. A lot.), but for the cast, all of whom I adore. So I watch SGU even though I hate the filming style and the lighting. I love the stories the writers and actors manage to tell each and every week.

  30. 100K DVDs in a week is nice, but not hotcakes. True Blood sold over 500,000 in its first week.

  31. Jehu says:

SGU is the first stargate I have ever watched. I love it. I liked it enough that I went to check out SG1 and SGA . I was dissapointed to find dorky campiness in those shows. I gues that is why SG1 and SGA fans don’t like SGU- it is not dorky enough for them. It doesn’t have that “I live in my parents basement” feel. Or the “I have the coolest Klingon costume at GenCon vibe.” Because that is what SGU is really missing. SGU is cool SciFi not dorky SciFi like old series were.

Let me pit it this way. SGU is like Batman Begins or the Dark Knight. SG1 is like Batman the tv show. Okay that was a little harsh but you get the point.

  32. Joseph says:

I’ve yet to watch SGU, MooTrain, yet I feel you ruined it for me all the same.

Jehu, you are apparently the self-appointed barometer of cool. Me, I’d gladly take the Go’uld and the Wraith over SGU’s… what does SGU have again? I’ll never know, because MooTrain ruined it for me!

  33. I said in an earlier post if SG: U cannot get the audience that it has been written to get and the rest of us that were faithful to support SG1 and Atlantis begin to drift away the show will be in trouble and I stand by that comment. I have yet to find any character (other than Eli) that I like on SG: U and some how something more than watching the long-haired British guy go crazy has got to happen. I agree that the STONES are more of a distraction than any help in making the story move along. I thought why not bring someone knowledgeable on the ship to get it fixed. My DVR still has a spot set to record the program but the boredom is still taxing my past loyalty to the franchise and like so many others I am about to lose interest. I do know I will NOT be watching any of the repeats of any of the episodes in the future so Syfy is losing the value of the franchise if it can only be viewed once and not often as was the case with SG1 and some of Atlantis. It may be a long year for the show and likely the end of the Stargate franchise after this one season. I assume they have already filmed the entire season so it is not likely to be cancelled before the entire season is aired.

  34. BGS says:

I agree, Allen Charles. Many of the fans of the older shows are drifting away and many of the new fans are finding SGU boring. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ratings continued to drop. The main ones who seem to be loving SGU are 18-25 year old fanboys who need no plot as long as they can watch scantily clad women with large breasts. While they are part of a key target audience, a show cannot survive on that demographic alone.

@Rehu – SG-1 and SGA might have been dorky in your opinion, but they also had a lot more viewers for most of the seasons they were on the air than SGU does currently. That dorky audience that you so gleefully ridicule gave the Stargate franchise its highest ratings ever and made TPTB a lot of money. So it seems there are a lot more dorks out there than “cool” fellows like you. Unfortunately for you, shows get renew based on ratings not on whether or not cool people like them.

  35. Jehu says:

The dorks are wrong on this one. I understand that SG:1 started in showtime with lots of nudity. I watched those early episodes and it certainly looks like a lot of nudity has been edited out.

What makes this series better is the production values, acting, and more believable characters. Yes, there is too much forced drama, which is what killed TSCC. But the sets are beautiful.

MooCow. They don’t use those other characters because it is a TV show about different characters. Don’t over think it.

  36. mariec43 says:

I find I can’t engage with SGU – but I’m a big fan of Sanctuary. I like the characters – especially Amanda Tapping. It’s a fun, and interesting show. Are the ratings they are getting respectible for that time slot with SyFy?

  37. aboleyn24 says:

Jehu there waas nudity in the very first episode, insisted upon by Showtime and then no nudity after that. They have even gone back and released a new cut of that first episode without the nudity. Wright and Cooper never wanted it, yet they are very happy to put simulated sex scenes in their newest creation. Apparently sex is fine with them as long as we don’t see any naughty bits.

I am in the meh column. I loved SGA and liked SG-. Yes they were mostly popcorn TV, but they were harmless entertainment. SGU has yet to truely entertain me. I’ll give it this season to see where it goes but if it doesn’t stop boring me I’ll have to move on.

  38. Theresa says:

I read this blog a lot, but I have never posted any comments. This time I can’t help myself. I am a long time Stargate fan. I am also a BSG fan. I LOVE SGU. Honestly, SGA was a hard sell for me. The first episode I found myself laughing… space vampires? I thought I would never like it as much as the original SG, but it grew on me. I didn’t have that feeling at all with SGU. I liked it immediately. The gritty feel, the damaged characters, the feeling that I have no idea where the story can take me. Yeah, their are flaws, but doesn’t every show have a few things that need to be ironed out the first season? For BSG, it was the Baltar character. I couldn’t stand to even watch him. Give SGU another chance to stand on its own and don’t expect it to be like anything else. It is a really good show with a lot of room to grow into something great.

  39. ReimaginingSux says:

…didn’t like the new, daytime soap, bad writing and unlikeable characters in new BSG and I don’t like it injected in my STARGATE. I can’t wait until SG-U is cancelled. The SG franchise may have needed a facelift in quality, but this just made it worse. Where are the likeable characters, the since of awe and adventure and the actions and f/x? I hate this soapy, meandering stuff. I watch science fiction to get away from it.

  40. Outlander says:

The problem with SGU, in my view, is it’s unbelievably poorly written. Last week’s episode was an entire hour devoted to people aimlessly running around the ship watching the power go off. The episode before that was people searching a desert for special sand to clean the CO2 scrubbers on the ship. The show has no plot. To fill 43 minutes, they rely on “character development” montages which appear forced and silly.

They should have brought SGA back. I reject the conclusion that SGA became “too expensive to make.” You go to the actors and staff and say “look, the economy has changed, you have to take a pay cut or we shut down production.” How many of the SGA actors are even working now? And as for the producers and stage crew, didn’t most of them move over to SGU?

  41. Some guy named John says:

I’m actually liking hte idea of SGU, but right now the “cliffhanger” of the ship flying into a star is kinda campy, as I can see it now, the ship is going to “recharge” itself by flying close proximity to the sun. I do think they are stretching the storyline out, but When you have a large cast it takes time to develop them and I think that is the full reason for lack of the star gating (is that the term — I’m more of a Star Wars fan) common in SG-1 and Atlantis

  42. V says:

SG:U is far outstripping Atlantis so far. I watched much of Atlantis with a feeling of inertia: I’ve been watching them…maybe they’ll get better. Blah. SG:U (once they killed off the senator) has had me looking forward to an SG-franchise show for the first time in years. I think too many people are expecting ‘alien of the week action flick’ instead of a more steady hand establishing the characters and a strong foundation for the series. Every Atlantis “oh, we’re screwed” moment was instantly solved by Rodney…I stopped caring. It may be developing more slowly — which isn’t a bad thing, it has potential — but it’s far better than the Rodney/Carter Quick-Fix-Of-The-Week.

As to Sanctuary…oh, just kill it and put it out of it’s misery. The original (on the web) excellent. The translation to Siffy (SYFY) was a step down, and it’s kept digging.

  43. Me says:

I’m liking SGU so far. But maybe that’s because I didn’t expect anything from it. lol.

  44. Jill says:

I have now lost interest in Universe and will not be watching anymore. As a long time Stargate fan I had high hopes for the show, but it is so unrelentingly dark and frankly dull as ditchwater that I almost nodded off watching last weeks episode. The characters are, without exception, unlikable and cliched, and there are just too many of them to allow the viewer screen time to get to know and care about them. Plus the shakey cam thing was starting to make me feel sick, I had to keep looking away from the screen, thing was though when I looked back I hadn’t missed anything. The show is really that slow. And in an odd way it seems very dated especially in its attitude towards the female cast members.

Life is too short to waste anymore time on Universe.

  45. Elaniel says:

Is it just me or does the picture you’re using for this show make it seem like a bad 90’s teen drama?

I really enjoyed the pilot, but Friday’s episode was a real letdown. Very boring.

  46. I do find it interesting that those who say they “hate” SGU happen to be the ones pissed they got rid of SGA.

I am an avid SG watcher. I own all of the SG1 series on DVD, and watched all of SGA…but, SGA never compelled me to own them.

Thus, I fall into the “love” SGU as I understand the concept. I understand Rush’s character (and I am a Robert Carlyle fanatic), I forsee greatness in the elongated story. I see a compelling drama to be played out over time…and glad there is not the “alien of the week” premise for each show.

To the person who said SG was hokey…I think that is it. The hokeyness of the old series (McNeill, Mckay, etc…) and their goofiness…worked.

SGU finally strays, and lets me know…this is new, and I need to pay attention to what is to come.

  47. Quince says:

I am a longtime Stargate fan having watched SG1 and SGA to their entirety and I can truly say that I actually enjoy Stargate Universe. The first couple episodes have got me hooked and I will definitely be watching every week. Rush annoys me i seriously was happier when he had his nervouse breakdown although without him almost the entire cast seems helpless…but i guess thats the new dynamic they are going after. It’s still pretty entertaining TV and I do enjoy it. The cliffhangers are annoying though…they should just show two episodes every week. I think that would help establish the characters and the situation and all the plotholes really quickly allowing them to move into developing characters and going into a deeper plot. At this point I don’t know where they are going with the story but I will keep wathcing for the ride…its been pretty engaging imo.

  48. JehuConnor says:

I don’t understand what you people are whining about. First off, the pilot episode was brilliantly framed, beginning with people hurling through the Stargate into a dark room. The introduction of Eli’s character was clever and hilarious. Rush’s character is nicely complex so that you are not sure how out of control his ego is. Dangerously out of control or merely insufferable?

Finally, I think the problems that the show is dealing with are the natural problems that you would have to deal with if you were transported to a super old spaceship in a distant galaxy. Air. Water. Life Support. Energy. We are talking survival in space here. It creates good believable dramatic tension. Not some cheesy alien of the week that leads to a dramatic peak before the last commercial break and then is solved after a message from our sponsors.

SGU is not only cooler than SG:1 and SGA, it has better production values, and is more intelligent. The ship itself is probably the best set on and SciFi show ever.

  49. Quince says:

Hey Jehu I thought you said U never watched SG1 or SGA before SGU started? How the hell did you watch all those seasons and episodes since the start of SGU (like 4 weeks ago) to be able to judge SG1 and SGA as being less cool that SGU based on SGU’s 4 episodes? Maybe the episodes you saw of SG1 and SGA wasn’t good but throughout SG1 and SGA there are many episodes that are imo stunning examples of great sci-fi storytelling and art design and originality. SG1 is not one of the longest running sci-fi shows for no reason. Your opinion is very baseless unless you have seen the utter best and the utter worst of SG1 and SGA which I doubt you have.

  50. JehuConnor says:

    Quince,

Well … You have a point. I have seen the first few episodes of SG:1 and the direct to video movie Continuum. I thought the movie had some good humor and story telling elements but it also had some lame plot devices. The original episodes of SG:1 were a bit cheesy. I haven’t been able to sit through a whole episode of SGA – so maybe I am missing something.

What are the best episodes of SG:1? I will check them out.

  51. Morena says:

SGU is terrible. It is hard to watch because of its slow pacing and its portrayal of women and minorites. It is definately NO Atlantis, which was actually a good show. Sure, it lagged a little in the last couple of seasons, but it was tremendously better than Stargate: Uninteresting. I hope they cancel this show and use the money to make SG-1 and SGA movies.

  52. Morena says:

I just read Outlanders post, and I agree. Here’s another thing with the budget. From what I understand, Atlantis cost 40 million to make, while Universe is costing 60 million. I also don’t believe that they saved any money on the cast.

On Atlantis they had maybe 6 main cast people and a few people that played technicians, wraith, and were extras. On Universe, you have a bunch of extras (like 20-30 at a time) just sitting around literally doing NOTHING. Then there is the 9 person cast that also doesn’t do much, some of which are C-list actors from long past movie hey-days or canceled shows. There is no way they are saving money making SGU. The only thing they saved was everything that made SG-1 and SGA interesting and worth watching. So you just end up with an expensive and boring mess when you watch SGU.

  53. Arturo says:

Have to say that I disagree with the majority of people on this thread. I am LOVING Stargate Universe.

The darker storyline and its focus on the interaction between complex, multidimensional characters has me hooked. I liked the lighter comic tone of Stargate, but am so happy they have chosen a different course for this latest incarnation.

I am hoping for a few seasons of this engaging drama!

  54. cassus says:

So far I can’t say I have anything good to say about SGU. I love sci-fi, but this really isn’t sci-fi. Other than the fact that they are on a space ship… That’s just not enough. Where is the sci? It’s just a lot of kids whining like crazy about every tiny damn thing. Also, if you guys remember the 200th episode of SG1 they made a mock-stargate-show with younger people.. This is actually it..

Most of the hardcore stargate fans are tapering off at this point. Which I guess is what they wanted, they wanted to cater to a younger audience, and most of the people who followed stargate SG1 and atlantis are in their late 20’s early 30’s right now and aren’t all that fond of a beverley hills 90210 knockoff.

I’m still hopeful, though.. Keep tuning in every week hoping someone will fire up a gate or whatnot and pop through for some exploring. I had hopes for episode 3, but they basically walked in a desert and found some rocks and went back.. Where’s the artifacts and all the mythology and goodness? This show has character interaction and NOTHING else. I do like drama, but the only guy I really give a crap about in this show is Young. And I absolutely dispise Eli, what a massive douchebag. He’s supposed to be funny but never pulls it off.

Anyways.. that’s how I see it. And I have to add that I really hate them for abandoning SG1 and Atlantis. The characters on both those shows will be missed. Saddens me.

  55. DI says:

Stargate Universe is basically a spaceship based soap opera. The cast of characters are not complex at all or multidimensional, just overly emotional, irrational, stereotyped and at best unlikable. The show is slow paced and there is nothing interesting happining on the ship. Stargate is about new technology, new adventures and experiences. Stargate is about opening your mind, which is not what SGU is about. There is nothing new or creative about this show, just people whining, agueing, and crying all the time. Thats not entertaining science fiction.

  56. Justin says:

I am trying desperately to like this show but i can’t. The acting is terrible (with exception to Rush), the typical stargate humor is no where to be found, and the story is boring. I have watched both SG1 and SGA at least 3 times all the way through and they still don’t get old. The major problem with SGU (besides the random sex scenes) is its trying to be BattleStar Gallactica. One problem with that though… The actors in SGU don’t even have a small fraction of the talent that Battlestar Galactica’s cast had. People just aren’t getting it. SGA and SG1 didn’t get cancelled because they were bad. As a matter of fact SGA just previously won a sci-fi show of the year award before it was cancelled. The true reason these shows were cancelled is the SYFY execs are cheap bastards. Once shows are on for as long as SG1 and Atlantis the cost of production begins to rise. If by some miracle of God SGU gets good and starts to become expensive to produce it will be the next to go. Luckily i’m left with a handful of great shows to watch including Supernatural, Smallville, and Fringe. Stargate R.I.P., you will be missed!

I like to throw stones with the best when it comes to “Syfy,” but when it comes to the demise of SGA, they are not the ones at fault. The creators decided that they would retire SGA, so them, and consequently-MGM, the parent company-pulled the plug on it. Syfy really couldn’t stop them, but since they knew they were going to get SGU once it was ready, that probably eased some of their concern over losing SGA and the hole it left in their schedule until SGU was completed. I don’t believe that SGA would have gotten cancelled its last year. I know many would have preferred to let it finish its run, like SG-1, and then go onto this new one-I am definitely in that camp, myself. At any rate, Syfy, as far as it it known, is “innocent” in this instance.

Uh-oh, the grammar goblin will probably get me. I should have said, “so they,” instead of “so them.”

Different stokes for different folks. I keep trying to like Universe, as much as I try it’s just not that interesting to me. But, there are people who find it great, which I can’t figure out for thie life of me, but hey you’re talking about someone who never watched BSG. How long was BSG on, anyone know? Just wondering how long I can expect SGU to last. I would like to comment to the person who described SG1 and SGA fans as nerds living in their parents basement. Honestly, someone who makes a statement like that is probably the one living in the parents basement. I’m a mom, pretty sexy one at that thank you very much, of two wonderful boys and have a full life. Yet, I loved….absolutely loved both SG1 and SGA. It’s part of our family’s video library and always will be. SGU, no I don’t think I’ll be adding that. For now, I’ll hope for something new (in terms of scifi). It’s too bad that the choices for scifi viewers are so lean that this one show pretty much carried the burden of satsifying all the different likes of it’s viewers.

V instead of the McKay/Carter fix of the week what have you got ?
there is no air we are all going to die – no we fixed it at the last minute !!! there is no power we are all going to die – repeat as necessary with water and so on.
If you stopped caring about SGA then by your own standards there is no hope for SGU and you should stop watching.
Chinese water torture sounds like more fun than this bland uninteresting drivel that has been thrust upon us.
