  1. Anonymous says:

NBC’s running out of things to say about Conan every week…

  2. Jon says:

According to NBC the 18-34 demo is “valuable”. How bout 34-49, where you’re getting crushed, or 25-54 where you’re getting sledgehammered. Last time I checked they have more money to spend than 18-34 who are mostly college kids with no money.

  3. Bill Gorman says:

Jon, NBC’s next fallback demo if 18-34 is threatened is “Viewers At NBC, Burbank”. :)

  4. lutrasim says:

I am not in the TV/ad biz; just found this site out of personal curiosity. I wonder who invented those demo break-downs and what did they based on. I tend to agree with Jon that it’s hard to conceive the 18-34 segment (which I just came out from :) having higher spending power than 35-49. So let’s see. If my math is correct, Conan and Letterman get 702M and 919M in the 35-49 segment, respectively. I assume that most people buying new cars, getting new home appliances (hey! you need a home first to buy appliances), and opening retirement accounts. 18-35? Yeah! I used to buy 6-packs and save money by eating at McDonald. But I don’t need TV commercials for those decision.

  5. MT says:

I love the new Tonight Show set! I wish there was a different host. The Jay Leno Show seems weird—the intro music is quiet, Jay’s walkout, I cannot put a finger on it. I really don’t want to sound like a whiner but I haven’t been able to figure this out. Craig Ferguson seems like the freshest, most comfortable late night host. It took me awhile but now I feel like I’m on the inside of his jokes. I’m just sayin’.

  6. MINDY says:

Craig Ferguson is the best thing that happened to late night. When Letterman leave, I hope Craig doesn’t take his place. If so, he will have to “water down” his style and I don’t know if that will work.

  7. MT says:

I heard that he wants to leave when David Letterman does. Who knows what will happen then. Does anyone know who is on the short list to replace Letterman when he hangs it up, I wonder?

  8. TSA says:

Oh jeez, I figured Conan had 18-49 in the bag this week. Conan’s never going to beat Letterman, he’s going to have to settle for being number two for a while.

MT, Jon Stewart is at the top of the list for Letterman replacements. I’m not being subjective (I’m actually growing to despise Stewart lately), it’s been stated in quite a few interviews and he was even offered the job when it looked like Letterman was going to ABC a couple years ago.

  9. John says:

I’m new to checking out “thenumbers”. I do see a confusing headline here. Why is the headline about a certain age group rather than the TOTAL NUMBER OF VIEWERS???!!! It seems like there is a slant on this journalism to promote Conan Obrian & Jimmy Fallon because they’re apparently more popular to the younger age group. BUT – If you read the entire article, the overall winners for viewership are Letterman & Ferguson. It just seems like something is VERY FISHY to promote shows that are NOT the overall favorites in HEADLINES

  10. Bill Gorman says:

John, this is a press release. NBC promotes what they want to promote. however they want to promote it.

  11. Jeff says:

It is a shame Conan isn’t doing as well as Jay did, when he’s a thousand times better than both Jay and Dave.

  12. MT says:

That makes one of you that thinks so. Clearly the popular vote in this case is for Letterman and Ferguson.

  13. Jeff says:

Thinking Ferguson has a better show than Conan is pretty laughable.

Letterman is great at interviews, but his monologues and bits suck as much as Jay.

  14. Hector says:

    Jeff must be smart

  15. Theoacme says:

Bill, don’t you mean viewers at “the unemployment office in beautiful downtown Burbank”…

…which is where a lot of NBC executives should wind up in three months :D

  16. Chic Doodles says:

Jeff, isn’t being “laughable” the point? Ferguson is fantastic, truly a comic genius.

  17. Les says:

Ferguson is the most talented man on TV.
