ABC did something similar by making the first scene of FlashForward available online before the premiere. Now ABC has done it with V, as well. Having seen the pilot (which I liked) for my viewing pleasure, this was the best part of the pilot, and I will watch it again when it premieres on November 3 at 8pm because it was meant for the big screen.
V has had some noted issues, with production being put on hiatus for a while to address those issues. Then ABC announced it would air the first for episodes but then put the show itself on hiatus before bringing it back sometime in the new year.
Here’s the video preview of the opening scene:

That was a really good clip. It almost looks like it should be a movie.
looks promising
this is exactly the kind of show which will either be a huge success or a big flop
Looks good. Too bad ABC is splitting up the episodes.
I won’t watch this so I’m not spoiled for the premiere. I hope the show does well since it’s likely pretty expensive but I wonder how much that hiatus will hurt.
I’ll wait until the premiere.
I hope they re-shoot the scene where the parachuter lands limp. I kept shouting “don’t just stand there! go see if he’s ok!”.
i cant wait. Robert did you like V or FlashForwad pilot better?
hard for me to say. Working against V is that I’m old, and remember the 1903 version
So, FlashForward was perhaps more interesting to me because it was a lesser known quantity.
My take after watching the V pilot was that I liked the first 9.5 minutes best and would likely like the pilot better than the rest of the series. I’m not really personally interested in the premise of V at all though, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
I hope the show does really good in numbers, but I think that putting into 8:00 p.m. and on tuesday is kind of wrong, because we all know the success that NCIS’s have, and adding that this kind of series are not for everyone (LOST, big success in its begginigs seasons but now….; FF, lot of hopes but now……)
It’s going up against NCIS? That may as well be suicide. Especially for a new show with no lead-in. :-/
Plus NCIS has an older audience and those that remember the old V (like my dad) will be tuning into that over the new V easily.
“Working against V is that I’m old, and remember the 1903 version”
I had no idea you were that old! Did the Visitors drive around in Model Ts – from the future!
All kidding aside, I had heard ABC has reshot portions of the pilot. The question being just what of the 30 other minutes got changed.
And again, this has trainwreck written all over it. You don’t schedule it in November if you don’t think initial nostalgia viewers are the only ones you’ll get/keep, and you don’t entirely halt production for months otherwise.
Does anybody know how much the pilot did cost?
Because that ^ is really important if it doesn’t work (THE WAY THEY’RE INVESTING) then :S
I liked the opening clip. The cast seems solid, decent work on the visuals… I’m just not sure this is the right moment for projects at this scale. FlashForward is doing well, but it will take some time before people decide to commit to something on the LOST level.
I think V is highly anticipated and will get a 4.7 for the pilot.
Very, very impressive. I liked the subdued feeling a lot more than the all out action sequence that started the original miniseries.
Where was I on 9/11? Not watching a crappy miniseries on ABC. I was in Manhattan volunteering my time because people were killed and injured on that day. Way to use that in your marketing ABC!
I liked it a lot…I just hope it’s not one of those shows with the ‘mood music’ running through every freaking scene.
Yawn–for such advanced aliens, you’d think they would realize that killing a bunch of people by arriving like that wouldn’t exactly help the whole “We come in peace” con they are trying to run.
And you’d think the producers of this show have never seen ID4 before . . . or the original V.
So this was supposed to be the best mine minutes?
Ack, they are in trouble.
And boy that stupid woman looking for her son was annoying, I was hoping the soldier would shoot her.
But of course nothing can live up to the 1903 version.
This is ABC’s new LOST, not Flash Forward.
I really hope this show succeeds and we could see how its all going to end one day. The original V never ended completely since it got canceled. But even if the show flops word, is the original writer is planning on making a movie that tell us the whole story. Only Kenneth Johnson could tell us the real story of the resistance going to battle with the Vistors.
I find it very promising. Of course it won’t again against NCIS when it premieres but I bet it will be a solid second place. My guess is 10 million viewers with a 3.5 demo
Interesting. I was 8 years old when the original V came out. I don’t think the ‘hiatus’ will hurt it… The original “V” came out as a Miniseries and then, due to the popularity, it became a regular series but the premise got old and it ended being cancelled.
The production values in this trailer look very expensive, I guess the network wants to test drive the show first. A new V will not have the same impact of the first one (it was the 80’s… no internet, no cellphones, no 500 cable channels), no YouTube… Today’s TV audiences are more demanding.
The premise on Flash Forward got old quickly. I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, but I don’t intend to spend a whole season trying to see them all panicking because their FFs are becoming true. The latest episode was horribly boring until the shootout.
God knows ABC needs another watercooler hit… Desperate Housewives is done (and they should bow out with class like Seinfeld did), Grey’s Anatomy is doing amazingly well so it will stick for now and Private Practice too, but the other shows have gone to hell.
This looks great, I’m definitely excited to check it out!
V is the next Battlestar Galactica. It might (I say might because that’s a big stretch because I love the original V) become as well known as the original V, the same way Battlestar Galactica is now more memorable than the original Battlestar.
While a bit cheesy, based on this clip it looks much better made than the increasingly dull Flashforward. The lady in the sky looks like someone on a hair product commercial though.
I’ll check it out. Although I don’t think I’ll have much interest in it as I don’t see how this kind of plot can carry on for seasons. But I thought the same about LOST so.
V is better designed for SyFy or another cable channel then it is ABC. I liked the clip and it looks good regardless I have doubts the show will do well on ABC. It should either be a mini series so we get a good ending or moved to cable.
How many times have they repeated that kind of alien arrival since Close Encounters of the Third Kind thirty years ago? I got bored by the paint-by-numbers approach of it. In fact, it’s even similar to the way FlashForward started, with everybody beginning their day normally enough for 9 minutes and then suddenly the big bad event comes along and everybody looks stunned or in utter awe. It’s as if all this stuff is being written by scriptwriting software with no flexibility for originality. I’m just hoping that what comes after this opening sequence gets better and not continues to be so yawningly predictable.
Hey, I watched the series of V back in 1983. I loved the mini series.I was so happy to hear of them bringing this show back, hope they can make this series as great as it was back then, as for flash forward I’ve lost interest all ready, Can’t stand to see two women kissing, loved the first episode, but not giving this show another chance. sorry’ Its turned me away from abc again. and I still Miss Kyle XY And yes I know hes in another show, seen it once and once was enough.
Where were you when Coke Classic came back?
looks expensive
Oh, remakes. I love you and hate you.
V is like my all-time fave miniseries. But this looks like Flash Forward/V for ABC. I like FlashForward. And if you already have a FlashForward type show, why another? Which is why FlashForward will survive. And V will be cancelled. ABC morons. V will be cancelled due to over-saturation w/ the genre on your network, plus it looks kinda cheesy. “Underside of alien mothership reveals hottie alien ambassador to speak to earthlings..” Yeah, really bad.
V looks good, but American Idol comes back in January, and this is airring Tuesday 8pm for the 4 episodes that will air in November, meaning it will be up against American Idol and NCIS. So is ABC trying to top both Fox and CBS or putting crap all hopes in V?
Can’t wait, but with production stalled, a bit of a delay in between and up against strong compeition, it’s going to be tough to catch on for casual viewers.
There’s going to be a strong core audience, i’m guessing 2.1 range and 6 million viewers range when it settles. ABC does have alot of midseason, so don’t know where this goes if it’s ratings a mediocore.
FlashForward got a 4.1 for Priemiere and was much more hyped and promoted in late september. There’s no way this gets a 4.7.
My prediction: 14 million and a 4.1 in the demo! V is being hyped up during FlashForward. I’ve seen several commercials for V. They’re also doing a campaign in the sky. It’ll be huge!
Yet another remake that will have “improved” graphics and drama, but, in the end, will not have the magic the original created.
Hollywood already explored this with Independence Day and War of the Worlds.
ABC, please produce something original, not based on an existing show or a show from thirty years ago.
It looks promising and I’m definitely going to watch it, but I have a feeling its concept will turn a lot of people off… I’m going to guess a 3.8 for the pilot and then a steadily decline thereafter.
There also seems to be an official V twitter, nothing special though http://twitter.com/VonABC

Yeah, Richard well people said the same thing about Battlestar Galactica and the remake became a cult classic.
Wy says:
“How many times have they repeated that kind of alien arrival since Close Encounters of the Third Kind thirty years ago?”
“The Day the Earth Stood Still” isn’t that much different. And, it must be admitted, space aliens in general logically arrive in spaceships. I suppose they could be brought inside comets. OR BY A WALL OF SPOTLIGHTS AND MODERN DANCE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMVqDJ-36gk
The clip isn’t coming up for me but I plan to tune into the 1st episode & check it out since I’m a SCIFI fan. The first episode though would have to be good and interest me though for me to continue watching it.
I’m a huge SCIFI fan but was never impressed with the original V. I didn’t see it at the time but saw it years later on VHS. I never understood why the show was so popular myself but I’m guessing because it was an original concept at the time and there were no other SCIFI shows available for SCIFI fans. For some reason at the time that it originally aired it didn’t interest me even though I’m a huge SCIFI fan.
I like some of the cast (Joel Gretz, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk)except for Elizabeth Mitchell who I can’t stand as an actress. I hope she doesn’t have a prominent role in it so that I can ignore her on it easily.
I don’t know if it will be a hit or not. Personally special effects aren’t that important to me versus a great storyline and great acting by the cast. The original was a new concept and there weren’t any other SCIFI shows on at the time, but since then we’ve had movies like “Independence Day” and series like Earth: Final Conflict and Stargate SG-1 that involve aliens wanting to take over Earth and also many more outstanding SCIFI series such as The remade Battlestar Galactica; Babylon 5; The 4400; Jeremiah, The New Outer Limits, The Star Trek Franchise, The Stargate Franchise, The X-Files, etc.
Also the prequel to Battlestar Galactica will be airing in January 2010 on SyFy. Plus you’ve got the currently airing SCIFI shows like Lost, Heroes, Fringe, Flash Forward, Stargate Universe, Sanctuary, and Dollhouse for SCIFI fans to chose from.
Didn’t watch it the first time — won’t be watching it this time. The premise just does not interest me. Not even a little bit.
It’s funny. I clicked on this article but I’m actually not motivated at all to actually watch the clip. When NBC announced a sequel with the original creator five years or so ago I was excited. But of course unoriginality is the norm in Hollywood so it was shelved and now we have this. I just have no interest in yet another remake. I’m enjoying Flash Forward so far though.
I noticed the beehive pattern on the belly of the spaceship.
Are these new visitors going to be bees instead of reptiles (as in the 1983 version)? There was something intriguing about Jane Badler swallowing a rat. Sorry I can’t imagine 5′4″ bees doing that.
Suggestions:
- get rid of the mama/mama’s boy characters, or at least give the sissy a Prince Valiant haircut if you’re going to be so blatant about the abnormal relationship. Unless the point is to show that the visitors are able to make humans do strange things. Next episode: Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch.
- remove references to ‘Independence Day’, which was a joke of a movie.
- redo the “crumpled paper” appearance of spaceship’s top side, yes a child could have done a better job.
- have spaceship disable cell phones, especially ones in use by drivers.
- repeatedly simulcast John Lennon’s “Let’s Give Peace a Chance” on all channels and personal players (aliens already had the technology to do it over 50 years ago)
What’s with the porn music at the end of the trailer??
My prediction to V’s premiere is 12 million viewers and 3.5 in demo,
maybe after premiere it’ll get 9-10 million viewera and 2.5-3.0 in demo
I smell a new hit for ABC’s tuesdays
Looks good but will ABC kill it after the first or second season as Fox did to The Sarah Connor Chronicles and CBS with Jericho? It will be interesting to see if, as with the original series, humans become the insurgency against the aliens. Bring on Michael Ironside!
