The shows seem to be settling into more predictable averages? Thanks for the info! Dig the charts.
If this downward trend continues I seriously think one of the other networks will collapse. I also think another more critical network will take its place. Obviously, these numbers show people don’t like the press kissing the presidents rear end.
Instead of and attacking Fox News, MSNBC should look at its own network and see why they are getting hammered in the ratings.
Interesting… HLN went up sharply in the opposite direction of the other 3 cable news networks starting around mid December lasting about 1 month, even intersecting Fox during the period in the 24-54 group.
Wow, the other networks are tanking day by day it almost seems.
I think FOX is going to buy out HLN to offer more conservative personalities flocking to FOX
I do not know why anyone watches Olbermann. I think he is such a BHO bootlicker, and he is just angry too
The Fox oriented right wingers will always go to watch and listen to content that re-inforces their fears and opinions. The rest of America is interested in the challenge of watching and hearing a variety of facts and perspectives. This explains the ditto-heads going to Fox – hence their higher ratings – and everyone else dividing their time across other news networks.
Hey, Mark, read your remarks and see if they make any rational, logical sense. I watch Fox on a steady basis but channell surf during breaks, and can’t understand how anybody watches them over 20 seconds. They spend half or more of their time attacking Fox. Seems like one of them would wake up and say, “maybe we ought to try what Fox is doing.”
While Fox is busy showing a wide range of news items, the others are busy opining about Fox. As a viewer interested in fair and balanced news, I prefer watching the real thing instead of getting badly digested seconds.
Mark, Just keep repeating your mantra to yourself and I’m sure it will help you get through your day. don’t let the facts get in your way. I’m betting you never watch Fox News, or you would know that they have voices from all across the political spectrum. Unlike the liberal mouthpieces at other networks (although kudos to them for finding the brass to stand up to the White House attempt to control the press pool. A good sign, that.) Oh, I am a fan of Fox News, I am a registered Democrat and I also read the Washington Post and watch ABC News. Two thirds of Fox News viewers are Democrats and Independents. Seems like the White House is ignoring a pretty big audience. Which, as Helen Thomas, reigning Queen of the White House Press Corps said, is just stupid.
The numbers speak for themselves. During the “we Bush” years, it was a lot closer between the major cable news networks. But it appears now that the appetite for what CNN and MSNBC do has fallen significantly. Maybe if did what media is supposed to do, they would still have ratings?
This is incredible.
Why do the other networks insist on sticking to a failed business model?
The board needs to dump whoever is making the programing decisions.
Mr. GJG
The “board” is Obama and his “minions.” They don’t have to worry at MSNBC and CNN………………….This administration and congress will bail them out!
Just as they’re talking about doing to the failing newspapers.
Sound like socialism around the corner?? Chavez stated a few months back that Obama WAS left of him! Seems he’s right!
I love football but I refuse to even watch Sunday night football unless my team is playing because of Olbermann.
He is a loser. And they say Fox is pushing an agenda, someone ought to take a look at this guy…oh wait the people who say that agree with him. Hmm. Olbermann’s ok on Sunday Football but Limbaugh’s money is no good for the NFL in ownership–somethings wrong folks.
People who watch Fox are Smart. People who watch MSNBC are clowns.
FOX has people that they can debate against them on their shows. MSNBC has people thhat agree with them and don’t give a different perspective.
Listen – I don’t understand what CNN’s doin, but I KNOW that MSNBC just want the “journalists” to keep toin’ the line until they and GE get ALL of Obama’s agenda through – you know, all the ones that’ll make them the REAL money (cap & trade, wind power, etc).
@ George
I think your stretching the idea of ‘debate’ if you think Bill O’Reilly repeatedly shouting ‘you shut up’ at people whose opinions his disagrees with constitutes it.
@Kad
He never shouts “you shut up” to his guest. I know this may be a shock to you, but everything that comes from mediamatters, MSNBC, and Huffington is nothing but slander.
In fact O’Reilly has defended Obama on many occasions. He even wrote an article entitled “What Obama Can Teach Ours Kids”. You need to get with reality Kad.
@JC
Is this part of his act or is this for real?

Either way I guess it is what attracts his type of viewers in such numbers.
Let’s face it, O’Reilly is the king of cable news, if I were CNN and MSPMS, I would be ashamed to look at these numbers everyday. Oberman sucked when he was a ESPN anchor, he is a legend in his own mimd. I won’t turn on Sunday Night Football until the game actually starts, can’t stand that useless individual. At least FOX gives you both sides of the political spectrum, but the little boy Ray Madcow and Keith Oberdork are just WH mouth pieces, they never learn, FOX, Talk Radio and Conservative Books sell, anything Liberal doesn’t, that’s the problem with Libs, they think American is Liberal, but it is a right of center country.
@gbd
Using a few out of context examples is the best you have? BTW, bravenewfilms has constantly slandered people they don’t like. The even put up fake limbaugh quotes. Their no different than mediamatters.
Maybe you should stop going after O’Reilly and look at KO. Have you seen the Jean Gerafelo clip? Youtube it. Now thats inexcusable.
I think Olbermann has gone about as far as he can go. He tried to trash O’Reilly hoping he could latch on and get pulled up the ratings ladder. It didn’t work. He’s still getting buried.
I’ll one thing for O’Reilly. You can disagree with him vehemently and he’ll have you back on the show over and over again. I’ve even seen him get ticked at people who agree with him too much.
Olbermann is pure echo chamber with a phony Edward R Murrow intonement to boot.
The only times I’ve seen O’reilly go off on people like that is when they are saying something beyond absurd and stupid. What would have been propper is to hear what the people he was saying it to were trying to say. But like all liberals and liberal media it seems they don’t want the other side of their arguement heard or presented.

There was never a caveat that O’Reilly only shrieked, “Shut Up” to those that deserved it. It was falsely stated that O’Reilly never uttered that phrase.
The claim that “like all liberals and liberal media …don’t want the other side of their arguement (sic) heard or presented” is contradictory as O’Reilly, a self proclaimed conservative, as we see at the link above, clearly doesn’t care for views other than his, ergo his screaming of the phrase “Shut up.”
Vague generalizations lend themselves very little to constructive conversation, However, they do seem to help attract ratings as seen with Fox’s indisputable dominance on the charts.
I agree though that it would’ve been better to have heard what they had to say. In Fox’s genre of “Must Shriek TV” I see little chance of that. It’s all about the Nielsen’s and the Advertisers, Baby.
It seems to me the more the so-called numbers show faux news gaining, the more the democrats win. Just by the numbers, even thru the election, faux numbers remains consistent. And yet even so called spike in viewership for faux does not translate into winning at the polls, in fact the opposite is true. Proof of this is the previous elections, and even more current issue that of public option. Labeled socialism by faux news, public opinion has grown to be an approved idea. Thus suggesting faux news caters to an audience, rather than influencing or attracting a broader audience. Other than con-ego, these numbers mean nothing. The majority of the voting public prefers news from others sources rather than faux, and therefore don’t spend on their advertisers.
Another fact is when KO ratings go up, democrats tend to win. KO influences people. ‘the clown’ he soothes the choir.
Zipollini
Over 50% of FNC viewers are either, Democrats or Independents.
Remember that the next time you feel the need to make fun of FOX Viewers.
Do you really believe that ONLY Republicans watch FOX? You can’t possibly be that misinformed.
@ Zipollini
Before assuming that those with a college education don’t watch Fox, you might want to check some statistics. Here’s a good reference:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/interactives/independents/data-year-by-year.html
As of 2006:
37% of college graduates identify themselves as Republican, vs. 34% identifying themselves as Democrat. 51% of those with less than a High School education identify themselves as Democrat versus 28% as Republican.
In fact, the more educated one is, the more likely they are to be either a Republican or an Independent and the less likely they are to be a Democrat.
@Zapollini
By the way, what this means is that the VAST majority of Dems have at BEST a high school education.
@Zapolini
Just so you know Pew research found that their is little difference in the intelligence of viewers between networks. You have nothing worth saying, so you resort to low blow attacks and second grade name calling.
What we have here is graphic evidence that millions of dumbed-down Americans are more likely to believe spin and falsehoods than to believe the most obvious of facts. After all, if the truth actually mattered to everyone, why on Earth would anyone want the change the text in the Holy Bible?? It isn’t just about the number of listeners; it’s -more importantly – about the nonsense they are being fed.
TEXMEX: As a true Dem, I find that FNC is a great place to occaisionally get a “worst-case scenario” perspective. Then I turn to CNN for the real deal. Once you learn what the truth actually is, then you also know who speaks it. It’s not complicated at all.
Stape.
Then you and I are like most Americans. We get our news from more than one source.
Welcome to the “Information Age” .
I just saw the new ratings report. CNN losing to the angry mob at msnbc is amazing. CNN doesnt realize what they did by throwing Lou Dobbs under the bus. They bring in all these lefties like msnbc who are angry and continue to support our do nothing president. Maybe instead of black in america and latino in america they should do a story about middle class america.
The MSNBC oriented left wingers will always go to watch and listen to content that reinforces their fears and opinions. The rest of America is interested in the challenge of watching and hearing a variety of facts and perspectives. This explains the Olbermann (the Porcine Master of Self Hatred)-Matthews (Erotically Involved with His Own Bellow)- Maddow (Ugly) Abject Obama Obsequy Faction going to MSNBC – hence their abysmal ratings – and everyone else dividing their time across other news networks.
Olberslob is a zero for MSNBC. Dump him; send him to Air America to do sports. He blasts Bill O’Reilly on a steady basis! Doesn’t work. He has made Sunday night football look bad.
