ABC locks in December return dates for Scrubs and Better Off Ted

Posted on 28 October 2009 by Robert Seidman

better-off-ted

Ah December.  Dancing With the Stars goes away for a while and the Renew/Cancel Index gets at least a little holiday season nutmeg spice as Scrubs and Better Off Ted make their returns.  The Index should have had enough time to heal from the stinging Scrubs dealt it by predicting doom for Scrubs practically every week last season.  Since then the Index has learned to play it at least  a bit faster and looser with 30 minute sitcoms.

Scrubs will return with double episodes on Tuesday, December 1 from 9pm to 10pm, and then Better Off Ted will take the 9:30p slot on December 8.

  1. Nick says:

Love these shows, and I don’t watch anything at that time currently.
With “V” and these two shows, I’m gonna have to switch from watching mostly CBS to ABC!

  2. Spartan says:

Still surprised that Better Off Ted was renewed, but happy either way, I will enjoy all the eps I can get. Sounds like it will start to air in a down time for alot of shows, sounds good to me.

  3. Julia says:

Finally something to watch on Tuesdays. For a very brief period of time, at least. I’ll miss you, Ted!

  4. forg says:

Both will be low rated sadly. I’m surprised they scheduled its airing this early. I hope there will be enough promotion on November.

Does it also mean these shows will have new episodes all throughout December? I guess ABC knows both shows will not be ratings winner so they scheduled it on December due to low expectations

I love Better Off Ted, I wish it would do better but not holding my breath it would drastically improve. Looking forward to the new episodes and wacky Veridian commercials :D

Scrubs might get a slight bump in the ratings for the season 9 premiere because people might be curious with the new format of the show.

    Predictions for the show.

    Scrubs – 5 million / 1.5 demo
    Better off Ted – 4 million / 1.3 demo

  5. Jack says:

ABC should totally rearrange its Wednesday schedule to save Ted, even if it kills the other shows in the process.

  6. Dan says:

I was waiting for this. I knew both would return in early December (with Ted’s DVD release on the 1st). Maybe after the first few episodes of each air ABC would move the two to wednesday at 8 and 8:30 and then air Lost at 9 Tuesdays.

  7. Julia says:

Jack, I like the way you think. NBC should do the same on Thursdays to save Community! ;)

  8. Jon says:

Scrubs will be interesting with the new characters and changes but to me, JD was the heart of Scrubs and without him, this is just another hospital comedy and really they should ended it last season.

Is it safe to say that CBS will vastly benefit from V and the Scrubs/Ted combo?

  9. Kyle says:

I was really hoping that V would be their lead-in but I think I am wrong!!

  10. forg says:

I hope Better Off Ted survives even if in the “Til Death” kind of way :D

  11. Dan says:

Forg – I expected it, just like how Jim returned after Dancing last year. Both comedies can get early exposure but while numbers will be severely low, Id combine it with the wednesday comedy block. At least the block will have some variety.

  12. chrisjozo says:

First Chuck in January, now Better Off Ted and Scrubs in December it looks like it really will be happy holidays. The Tuesday 9/8Central timeslot is perfect for me as I have nothing to watch during that time.

  13. rob says:

Glad Better Off Ted is coming back soon! V wont be their leadout. V will only air 4 episodes, Nov. 3, 10, 17, and 24. Scrubs leadout is an ABC holiday special Preps and Landing.

  14. Dan says:

Im hoping Ted survives. My guess is as long as ABC keeps Scrubs they will keep Ted, just to prove that they have comedies. If Ted somehow gets a third season it will be the first comedy since Hope & Faith to get a third year.

  15. Dan says:

Forg – The only difference between Death and Ted is that ABC burned off the remaining Season 1 episodes in the summer because they knew that the second season would look different from the first. Theres no cast changes or anything big but Season 2 of Better off Ted by ABC should be better. Scrubs is completely changed, however but hopefully they can hold up in the slot. FOX should have burned off Til Death’s episodes so they would have less episodes to go through. Why they would air repeats of the series over the summer when they could easily air originals is beyond me.

  16. Jon says:

It will be interesting how Scrubs 2.0 rates, ABC clearly want more episodes for syndication. I think ABC may axe it if it fails to make an impact but it wouldn’t surprise me if they kept it as a midseason filler.

  17. Tom says:

Doesn’t this guarantee (not that there was much doubt) that Bachelor will still air on Mondays in winter, with these two serving as Dancing Results filler?

I’d also say it further suggests the two hour Wed comedy block is no longer (Hank is gone, and neither of these will be filling in for it).

  18. Jon says:

Till Death is like ATJ where it’s a low rated show for renewed for syndication purposes, Sony must have given FOX a sweet deal to renew it because it’s ratings are beyond terrible and FOX have no reason to keep it.

  19. cool says:

V will end the week before (the same night as Dancing) so Scrubs will NOT have the V lead in.

  20. forg says:

Dan: Well it’s just wishful thinking on my part that Better Off Ted escapes death like Til Death did for years haha. It’s a long shot. I know the show will not be a ratings winner but I have little hope it would somehow survive. But if not, I just hope all the episodes ordered will be produced (how many was the order, 13?)

  21. dumont says:

Looking forward to ‘Better Off Ted’, and hoping that the second season re-tooling improves upon what is undoubtedly the most wickedly incisive comedy on television next to ‘30 Rock’.

  22. Dan says:

Jon – They did, Til Death has 76 episodes, 29 of which have yet to air. FOX doesnt really care about airing the Season 3 episodes but it makes sense since they dont own the show so they will do watever they think will get higher numbers. Scrubs is produced in house and will have 186 episodes by the end of the season. Despite very low numbers it seems besides syndication values ABC is keeping the duo to prove they have comedies.

Tom – My guess is that The Bachelor will air in Dancing’s slot beginning in January. Here’s my projected schedule

    Monday
    8:00 The Bachelor
    10:00 Castle

    Tuesdays (February)
    8:00 V
    9:00 Lost
10:00 True Beauty or NEW DRAMA

    Wednesdays
    8:00 Scrubs
    8:30 Better Off Ted
    9:00 Modern Family
    9:30 Cougar Town
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    Thursdays
    8:00 Flashforward
    9:00 Grey’s Anatomy
    10:00 Private Practice

    Fridays
    8;00 Superanny
    9:00 Ugly Betty
    10:00 20/20

    Sundays
    7:00 AFHV
    8:00 Extreme Makeover
    9:00 Desperate Housewives
    10:00 Brothers & Sisters

  23. cool says:

Lost and True Beauty? talk about incompatible shows!!!

  24. Budo says:

I also really like Better Off Ted, and hope it somehow finds an audience, because it’s simply hilarious. It’s worth it for Portia DeRossi alone.

  25. vsaint says:

I was wondering when networks announce new year schedule.
LOST will probably return late Jan. They have 18 episodes, 2 hour premiere and finale and probably 1 clip show to milk everything they can.
Tuesday probably looks like best spot, hoping viewers will tune in early to watch V.

  26. CK says:

It would be better if LOST were not up against American Idol. Viewers who left from past seasons will watch the final season and ABC can get total viewers higher than 9 million. Perhaps the 10:00 slot on Tuesday or Wednesday.

  27. Bob W says:

Seems to me that ABC would be Better Off with Ted instead of Hank, effective ASAP or maybe upend Wednesday all together with Modern Family @ 8, Better Off Ted 8:30, Cougar Town 9, and Scrubs 9:30

  28. Tory says:

I love Better Off Ted. As much as I am enjoying Modern Family, Better Off Ted is still the best new comedy on ABC if you ask me. Hope it does okay in this time slot and if it doesn’t, hope it gets a shot on Wednesdays. BOT’s biggest problem is not enough people have seen it.

Hope Scrubs is good this season. Think it should have ended last season and Samantha Who should have been renewed but I’ll watch anyway, I’ve watched and loved it since the start, not going to stop now.

  29. NBCSeeUs1978 says:

If Scrubs is becoming a traditional comedy this season then I can’t wait to see it.

  30. aznfratboy says:

Why would The Middle not be at the 8:30 Didn’t it get a full season pick-up? But Hank is getting awful ratings, should be cancelled.

  31. Dan says:

Cool – I just added True Beauty there because its ready to air, but its more likely to replace Castle in March. If Lost airs at 9 Tuesdays, its very likely a new drama will air Tuesdays at 10 or Primetime.

Bob W – I was thinking Scrubs and Ted would start the hour from 8-9 Tuesdays as a workplace comedy hour and Modern Family and Cougar Town would air as a family type hour 9-10. I think combining Scrubs and Ted with MF and CT would be smart. ABC could also move Cougar Town to 9:30 following Dancing and The Middle to 9:30 if they want The Middle to be helped out. Middle seems more compatible with Modern Family.

  32. Dan says:

Aznfratboy – The Middle did get a full year but if ABC combines their Scrubs/Ted duo to air in the wednesday comedy hour, so Lost could air Tuesdays at 9, one comedy would be temporarily moved. My guess is The Middle would be moved to air post Dancing beginning March. Its also possible that ABC would move The Middle to 9:30 Wednesdays (to help the series out and give it more compatibility) and Cougar Town might be shifted post dancing. Here’s a scenario

    Wednesdays
    8:00 Scrubs
    8:30 Better off Ted
    9:00 Modern Family
9:30 Cougar Town or The Middle
10:00 NEW DRAMA (Copper, Happy Town, Deep End)

    Tuesdays
    8:00 V
    9:00 Lost
10:00 NEW DRAMA (Copper, Happy Town, Deep End)

    Mondays (March)
    8:00 DWTS
9:30 The Middle or Cougar Town
    10:00 Castle (Jan-March)
    10:00 True Beauty (April-May)

If Scrubs and Ted shift to Wed by early Jan, its unknown what ABC will air Tuesdays. Until Lost premieres in late Jan. From this sched, Hank, The Forgotten and Eastwick will all be gone. Thursdays-Sundays should stay the same. Im very anxious to see ABC’s actual sched.

  33. Tommy says:

Dan I don’t see ABC making any changes to the Comedy Block, except for canceling Hank and putting Scrubs in it’s place. Better Off Ted can air back to back episodes on Tuesdays. ABC doesn’t appear to eager to cancel Hank quickly so they may decide to stay the course with it and wait till may to cancel it. ABC has been very patient with Comedies the past few years.

  34. DefConDre says:

I don’t care about “Scrubs” but I sure do enjoy the two scientist guys on “Better off Ted.” I wish it focused more on them & less on Ted, although the girl playing his daughter is showing the beginnings of an excellent career if she chooses.

  35. Ryan says:

I love Better off Ted. First show last season that left my wife and I laughing as we watched each episode. Glad to see it come back. I hope that ABC tries to drive up its Tuesdays. They have been pathetic for awhile now. Can’t always rely on animated holiday specials and cheap reality result shows to garner ratings.

  36. Doug says:

@Dan—I might be a little confused…which is normal i guess, but didn’t True Beauty have fairly poor ratings last season? Why would they replace Castle with it in March? Is it a matter of no other place to put it or would Castle’s run be over by then?

  37. NBCSeeUs1978 says:

Castle is starting to turn into a beast on Mondays at 10pm against CSI: Miami so no reason for True Beauty to ruin it. True Beauty shouldn’t had cameback this season.

  38. LOL if a NEW Castle pulling a 2.5 A18-49 rating against a RERUN of CSI: Miami (that got a 3.1 A18-49 rating) is “starting to turn into a beast”

  39. aznfratboy says:

@ Dan – I see only one Dancing episode, I don’t watch reality TV crap, but isn’t there one episode where they dance, and one where they eliminate the contestants? And do they give you 24 hours to vote or the entire week to vote?

I really hope they don’t cancel The Forgotten, I don’t watch it, but it seems like a good show to follow V and Lost, something with a little dark mystery.

    Monday:
    8 – Dancing
    9:30 – Middle
    10 – Castle

    Tuesday
    8 – V
    9 – Lost
    10 – Forgotten

    Wednesday –
    8 – Better Off Ted
    8:30 Scrubs
    9 – Modern Family
    9:30 – Cougar Town
10 – If Eastwick gets cancelled, then new drama

Only thing is where do you chuck the other episode of Dancing?

  40. Indeed, come March, barring something wacky, DWTS results will air 9pm Tuesdays.

  41. TTD says:

Yaaay!! Better off Ted is the best show ever! Cant wait for them to return. So hilarious!

  42. Erick says:

Better Off Ted is one of the best comedies on TV right now, my wife and I can’t get enough of that show. I just hope ABC promotes it well to get some viewers. I agree that JD was Scrubs, but I’m willing to give it’s new format a view or two, there’s nothing else on Tuesdays that I watch.

  43. Danielle says:

I really like Scrubs but wonder what the show will be like without JD. Can Turk & Pierre carry the show?

  44. Craig S says:

Great news that ABC bringing these shows back, but it stinks that they will air Tuesdays at 9 and after V is done with its first batch of eps, how is that going to help?? If ABC really wants to give Ted a fighting chance, they should air it Wednesdays at 9:30 in December at least even if its after repeats of Modern Family since right now that’s their best half hour slot available and then move it after its had a chance for people to find it again. Or slide Ted in for Hank at 8 or move Middle to 8 and Ted to 8:30. Scrubs is ending even if not this year so that could just air back to back episodes on Tuesdays, it’s not like their ratings have a chance to grow like Ted’s potentially could.

For all those people guessing ABC’s winter schedule, you seem to be forgetting DWTS results show will be back in March Tuesdays @ 9, so a LOST/V combo not going to happen there at least not back to back. DWTS already down this season, they aren’t going to want to move it to 8 to go head to head with Idol every week. I am curious though to see where they plan to air things, their midseason schedule always seems to be difficult to figure out because they have so many things to juggle around.

  45. pete5125 says:

Scrubs will do the same, it will be a mediocure rated comedy, that people like me love, Ted in the new 3-camera format may pick up viewers, I know that it is reviloutionary for a comedy to be single camera, but America doesn’t love it, their have been very few comedies in this format that have been long term successes(Malcolm in the Middle, My Name Is Earle, THe Office), I can think of maybe a few that have even made it to syndication, This is why CBS has abandaned this format and (even though I like NBC comedies)it has killed Must See TV.

ABC might want to try an all comedy Wed.
    8PM Modern Family/The Midle
    9PM Scrubs 2.0/Ted
10PM Cougar Town/Reformated Hank or New comedy

  46. Mumbo says:

How many episodes were Ted and Scrubs renewed for? If it’s only 13 each, I’m guessing they’ll run through both of them by March, and then they go off the air and Dancing results takes back its timeslot.

So my guess for the midseason schedule is:

    Monday
    8:00 The Bachelor (Dec-Feb)
8:00 Dancing with the Stars (Mar-May)
    10:00 True Beauty (Dec-Feb)
    10:00 Castle (Mar-May)

    Tuesday
    8:00 Copper (Dec-Feb)
8:00 Dancing with the Stars results (Mar-May)
    9:00 Scrubs/Better Off Ted (Dec-Feb)
    9:00 V (Mar-May)
    10:00 Lost

Because shoving Dancing between V and Lost makes no sense to me at all.

    Wednesday
8:00 Romantically Challenged (assuming this is a half-hour comedy? I don’t even know what this show is)
    8:30 The Middle
    9:00 Modern Family
    9:30 Cougar Town
    10:00 Happy Town (Dec-Feb)
    10:00 The Deep End (Mar-May)

    Thursday
    Unchanged

    Friday
    8:00 Supernanny (till Feb)
    8:00 Wife Swap (Mar-May)
    9:00 Ugly Betty
    10:00 20/20

    Sunday
    Unchanged

  47. Vetinari says:

I agree with Bob W. Put BoTed in Hank’s slot, it would help shore up that night. I don’t know what they should do with Scrubs but I highly doubt that revamped series is going to work so it doesn’t matter much.

  48. Someone should make a website where people can just make tv schedules.

  49. ron says:

Bizarre decision to air them in December but then this is ABC we’re talking about…

BOT never should have been renewed, it doesn’t fit at all with the network and will never, ever draw even reasonable ratings for them no matter the critical praise. Airing it behind Scrubs on a Tuesday isnt going to launch it into even a minor hit. A case of the right show, wrong network… its like The Good Wife airing on Fox.

Scrubs should have bowed out last season as was intended but at least it is a established name and its demos are never as bad as what people would have you believe on here. It was doing half a point over what Hank is in the same slot in the lower rated spring, while on a Tuesday last January it debuted to over a 3 and was in the low 2’s despite no lead-in of any note.

Are these good ratings? No, they’re not even average, but it could be a lot worse. Its a serviceable timeslot filler for ABC and they’d be wise to move it to Wed @8 IMO.

  50. ern says:

i’m still surprised Scrubs is coming back…i was not expecting that last year (well who was?)

i’ll still watch even though it’ll probably still suck. nothing good comes on Tuesday IMO except all the corny crime dramas. ABC is suddenly my favorite of the big channels. still nothing on ABC can compare to Showtime shows……just sayin.

  51. JVO says:

I like the idea of ABC putting comedies in the 10 o’clock hour. Why the hell not? The dramas don’t seem to work, so why not experiment a little? Here’s my comedy Wednesday schedule for shiggles:

    Scrubs
    Better Off Ted
    Modern Family
    The Middle
    Cougar Town
    Romantically Challenged

  52. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Who-hoo. :D

  53. BTW(By the way), Dan I like your idea but couldn’t we switch the timeslot for Scrubs 8:00 & Better of Ted 8:30 To Scrubs 8:30 & Better off Ted 8:00. What do you think or is it better that way (your timeslot)?
    :)

  54. I like that JVO, Totally argee with you. :)

  55. Dan says:

5506 – I just thought Scrubs would be better to lead off the night because its more familiar and in theory may be a better lead in to the rest of the night. Better Off Ted is a great show, but no one really knows about it. Hank is a bad lead in to the rest of the comedies but The Middle rises slightly, then Modern Family goes to about 9 million then Cougar Town drops to 7 mil.

Mumbo – I agree with you fridays, to bring Wife Swap back when Supernanny finishes. I would think it would be more likely that ABC finishes up Castle, rather than put it on hiatus, and then airs True Beauty in the slot. If anything ABC would want to air Lost at 9 and a new drama at 10. I dont think they would air the final Lost season at 10. Unless ABC has something planned for Tuesdays at 8 in January, I would just air the rest of V at 10. And Romantically Challenged is a half hour comedy but it doesnt really fit in with the rest of ABC’s wednesday single camera comedies. Hank was more of a fit but now that Hank is out ABC may retool their 2 hour block a bit.

Ron – its not too bizzare, ABC did announce the duo would return after Dancing ended, and that what ABC did with Jim last year. Scrubs and Ted will get some exposure in December and then possibly move to Wednesdays at 8-9.

Since Lost isnt returning until late January, ABC could reshuffle the sched to accomodate the series.

  56. Dan says:

Happy Town and Copper each have a 13 episode order so it would be smart to premiere 1 airing post Lost and the other in another 10pm slot. Various shows or specials can air Tuesdays on the 5th, 12th and 19th but Lost could premiere the 26th and have Happy Town follow it the next week. After the olympics, V could air at 8. If Scrubs and Ted shift after December then either on the 6th or 13th the new comedy 2 hour block can return with new episodes.

This is my new projected schedule

    Monday
    8:00 The Bachelor (Jan-March)
8:00 Dancing With The Stars (March-May)
    9:30 The Middle (March-May)
    10:00 Castle (Jan-March)
    10:00 True Beauty (April-May)

    Tuesday
    8:00 V (Feb-May)
    9:00 Lost (Jan-May)
    10:00 Happy Town (Jan-May)

    Wednesday
    8:00 Scrubs
    8:30 Better Off Ted
    9:00 Modern Family
    9:30 Cougar Town
    10:00 Copper

    Friday
    8:00 Supernanny
    9:00 Ugly Betty
    10:00 20/20

Wife Swap could return in either slot.
Thursdays and Sundays will remain the same.
The Deep End has 6 episodes so it could serve as a replacement for either 10pm series, should they end early.

  57. Mike says:

    Pete5125—

    FYI
Better Off Ted is still shot single camera. There is no major retooling. All principal cast is back.

It is a great show, but I think it is unlikely it will ever air in an 8:00 or 8:30 time slot.

  58. ron says:

While I agree that they might, I dont think ABC would be wise to place a comedy Mon 9.30 after Dancing. For a start you’re directly up against BBT and secondly a single camera comedy will likely lose a large chunk of the old skewing lead-in, which will give the impression of the show being a ‘loser’. They’re better off burning off whatever they choose as the ‘odd man out’ in double bills on Tuesdays at 8 or 9 in Jan/Feb IMO.

  59. Dan says:

Ron – ABC doesnt really have an odd man out comedy wise besides Hank. Hank will likely be pulled in November or December. ABC doesnt have According to Jim this year so I doubt ABC would double up or burn off any of their other comedies. Another guess is that ABC puts new comedy Romantically Challenged in post Dancing slot. Its a multi camera series and doesnt combine well with any of the single cam shows. If ABC combines Ted and Scrubs with Modern Family and Cougar Town they may temporarily put The Middle on hiatus.

    ABC could do this
    8:00 Scrubs
    8:30 Better off Ted (Jan-March)
    8:30 The Middle (March-April)
    9:00 Modern Family
    9:30 Cougar Town

ABC has so many options, but well know for sure in a couple of weeks.

  60. Bill Gorman says:

That hour’s dreadful ratings might even make Hank look good!

  61. Riff Rafferty says:

“Better Off Ted” Season 1 on DVD December 1. “Better Off Ted” Season 2 on TV December 8. This is like the best Christmas ever.

And, yes, add my voice to the party line that if the ratings aren’t better, I’m hopeful ABC will at least give it a 4-week run Wednesday 9:30 after the net’s other 20th comedy before making the final call. I think they can forgo a few reruns of “Cougar.” Certainly, I can.

  62. Dan says:

Bill – The ratings are dreadful but Scrubs/Ted at least have critical praise. If anything the 8:00 wednesday hour had Scrubs doubles and did badly last year. Scrubs and Ted will get low ratings and will get steamrolled by Idol, but Scrubs isnt a new comedy looking for life, its a 9 year old sitcom that has been ready to end since 2007 and has only been kept for syndication purposes. If the duo stays at 9 Tuesdays, that gives the question, where will Lost air, and if Hank is axed, what will fill the 8:00 wednesday slot in the likely event that ABC keeps the comedy block. Im not sure when Hank will get pulled, ABC could yank it after November 18th and air half hour Xmas specials in the slot until January or they could keep Hank on through December. Instead of pulling the three series a possibility is that ABC quietly announces that they wont be ordering additional Hank, Eastwick or Forgotten.

  63. Ike says:

Dan said: “The ratings are dreadful but Scrubs/Ted at least have critical praise.” Ron said: “Are these good ratings? No, they’re not even average, but it could be a lot worse.”

As I understand it, Scrubs keeps getting renewed because it gets excellent ratings in adults 18-34 (numbers we don’t usually get a chance to see). It skews very young. Advertisers will pay extra for that. I also heard rumors that it does well with high-income HHs. Also, the syndication profits are probably high. And there aren’t enough sitcoms available to fill all the syndication slots. Syndication abhors a vacuum.

Haven’t seen Better Off Ted yet, but friends tell me it’s really good so I hope the same is true for that show re: demos.

(Disclaimer, if anybody cares: I don’t watch Scrubs. Just passing along info/hearsay.)

  64. Bill Gorman says:

Ike, no, Scrubs ratings are terrible in all demos. But more episodes for syndication is enough of a financial incentive for ABC/Disney so that they can overlook the ratings.

  65. Julia says:

Scrubs used to do decently in younger demos, which is why NBC kept it around so long. But it did horribly on ABC last season.

  66. Jon says:

I imagine if Scrubs fails to take off then ABC will not renew it for another season like when The CW brought back 7th Heaven for an 11th Season but didn’t do so well.

  67. Riff Rafferty says:

“Scrubs” opened well on ABC last season (as I guess ABC got some people to sample it who aren’t regular viewers) with the one-hour season premiere. It flatlined after that. And there was no financial incentive to making “AfterS*C*R*U*B*S.” They even said as much. Comedy Central’s off-net deal in ‘05 was for 8 seasons of the show. It’s a Steve McPherson pet project.

It was also a Jeff Zucker pet project, although Bill Lawrence never seemed to figure that out…

I think that ABC is puting Scrubs and Better Off Ted on Tuesdays in December because most shows are in reruns by early December, so it could get some more exosure. Then when January or Febuary comes around ABC might try the shows out on Wednesday night.

Wherever they are I will watch them!

I have to jump in to show my support for Better off Ted. Love that show!

To anyone that has not seen this show yet, PLEASE watch it. Mark your calendar for it! It’s laugh out loud funny!!

Oh, one more thing, go check it out at ABC.com, everyone. It can’t hurt to show support for the show that way either, besides, you can watch clips (if not entire episodes) at the website.

  71. Sam says:

Better Off Ted would be a great match with Modern Family and The Middle. Three quality, single-cam, no laugh track sitcoms. Cougar Town can stay for the ladies, although it’s a definite pass for me. Hank needs to go.

And Scrubs? It baffles me why it’s returning. The major cast members are all gone, and the REAL series finale was terrific. Why ruin the legacy?

  72. Dan says:

Azn frat boy – Dancing wont return until March so The Bachelor will air in the slot until then. I dont see Eastwick or The Forgotten lasting into January so look for drama replacements for those 2.

Sam – ABC gets more $$$ for syndication, and ABC wants to relaunch a series that should have ended last May. Scrubs should have spun off into a new show, not completely changed.

  73. Tommy says:

Scrubs is basically a spin off without changing the name. Maybe they felt that keeping the name but completely changing the show was better than trying a new title for it. I think it will be interesting to see how it pans out. I would think ABC would want Scrubs “2.0″ to have a new name so it might be able to get new viewers.

  74. Dan says:

Mark – Thats what I thought, Scrubs and Ted can air December, get some exposure then move to Wednesdays comedy block.

And thats why ABC renewed According to Jim for so long. 182 episodes is a lot more profitable than 146, which Jim had when it originally ended in May 2007. Jim at least got a proper finale. ABC picked up Scrubs from NBC so to them, Scrubs is basically a second season comedy. To all fans, Scrubs final episode was My Finale. Everything after that is pretty much a completely new series. It seems that along with their new family comedies (The Middle, Modern Family, Cougar Town) ABC still wanted a couple of work place comedies so with Scrubs getting retooled ABC renewed Ted. People would wonder why ABC would renew a comedy that had the lowest rated series premiere (for a comedy) since Hot Properties in 2005. A little acclaim goes a long way.

Better Off Ted: Frequently hilarious and original, so probably not long for this world. I love the phony ads between scenes. They flow so naturally that my husband frequently starts to fast-forward past them.
