More Chuck sooner: NBC orders 6 additional episodes; likely to return early

Posted on 28 October 2009 by Robert Seidman

Chuck vs. The Truth

Update 2: with the news that Trauma would not get a full season pick-up, Chuck’s early return seems certain.

Update The Live Feed reports that the six additional episodes is a done deal according to sources.

Good news, Chuck fans, at least if what The Wrap’s Josef Adalian is hearing pans out.  NBC is looking to order up six additional episodes of Chuck and the show could return as early as January:

NBC is close to giving “Chuck” a big thumbs up.

The network will likely order as many as six additional episodes of the comedic spy adventure, two industry insiders familiar with the situation told TheWrap. The extra episodes would be on top of the 13 hours already ordered for season three.

NBC’s move could be a sign the network wants to bring “Chuck” back on the air in January, splitting its season into pre- and post-Olympics pods.

  1. forg says:

Go Chuck! I miss this show, hope it will deliver solid ratings when it returns (but with the current state of NBC I’m not holding my breath)

    I miss Sarah <3

  2. Nightstar says:

Cautious optimism is my thought on this — I seem to recall some folks predicting it would be back by the end of October (insiders, if I remember correctly).

If there are 6 more episodes coming and they are planning on a split season of sorts (pre- and post-Olympics) then perhaps that plan will work out to gain interest in the show again. I do think it good promotions during the Olympics themselves will be all but required, though.

Hope it works out for the Chuck fans. :-)

  3. Audrey says:

Chuck season 2 DVD/Blu-ray are set to release on January 5th. Could this fact confirms the high possibility of Chuck coming in January?

The additional 6 episodes sound great though.

  4. steve says:

not really bothered as dont think itll return to great ratings regardless of what do.

  5. ChcukFan says:

    Audrey,

I think with the Chuck DVD release moving from 2/28/10 to 1/5/10 would seem to indicate a pre-olympic airing of Chuck. Good catch.

  6. Tommy says:

I think coming back in January is a much better plan than coming back in November. It gives NBC time to promote the show, and it will need promotion if it’s going to have any shot at doing well. I just hope that they learned there lesson last season with the super bowl promotion. NBC should still promote the show during the Olympics, but this time they shouldn’t pull some stunt with the first episode out of the Olympics like they did with that crappy 3D episode they aired after the Super Bowl.

  7. Vetinari says:

If they’d release the DVD set before Christmas it would help people give it as presents and help spread the appeal of the show to new fans.

But anywway – good news about possible January and more episodes.

  8. Tom says:

Somewhere between 10 and 13 Traumas get produced and aired, a couple emergency holiday specials in between, and then Chuck starts up on 1/11.

  9. olddarth says:

    The more Chuck the better!

An uninterrupted run starting in March is my preference.

Whatever happens Chuck fans will need to get the word out when the show does return.

  10. The1337 says:

On twitter, TheLiveFeed is saying it’s a “done deal.” 6 more episodes and starting in January sounds fine to me.

  11. The1337, post already updated :-)

  12. Tom says:

Well, again, NBC needed something to cover Mondays and Wednesdays between Trauma/Mercy’s initial 13 episodes and mid Feb.

With Mercy, they held their nose and ordered more, but Trauma turned into more Chucks.

I really doubt Chuck gets the 9pm slot though – question being when Heroes moves up to 9.

  13. Kay Lhota says:

Whatever the Powers That Be at NBC decide to do with “Chuck,” my family and I look forward to Season 3 together. I would naturally prefer to see “Chuck,” sooner than later, and March has been a dreadfully long time to wait. January gets us past the Holidays, but allows a fan like me to at least get in maybe four episodes or so before the February Olympic break. Then, with a few commercials during the Olympics, at least the name “Chuck” won’t be forgotten. Now, if we can just get a few more eyeballs to watch!

  14. Tom, right there with you. NBC will throw the WB-produced Chuck to the House (produced by NBCU!) wolves, and give Heroes (also NBCU) its old and better time slot.

  15. olddarth says:

Looks like Chuck would be coming back in January on its previous slot in front of Heroes per THR.

  16. Jared says:

so, if i can do 1st grade math that puts the order up to 19 episodes. I think that january would be the only real option if they don’t want it running into the summer. Where will it go? I’m guessing the go back to the old Chuck Heroes lineup on Monday, if only because Heroes has never been a good lead in(look at every show that’s come after it, only Medium could be considered sort of successful) and because Chuck is a more 8 o clock show. Plus that’s kinda what it’s always been. But as Heroes will end for the season (and who knows, maybe the series) not too long into the new year, NBC will be in another scheduling nightmare.

  17. Jodie says:

Excellent excellent news. January sounds good to me cos as others have said this allows for some promotion time.

FYI Chuck season 2 has already been in released here in the UK a few weeks ago, I have a copy, but annoyingly the pre-empted “Chuck Vs The Best Friend” and “Chuck Vs The Suburbs” are in the incorrect broadcast order. I’m wondering if the US version will also be like this?

  18. Joseph says:

    That’s why NBC it’s in 4th place

  19. idizzle says:

Wow, how much did they drive the costs down that they would order more episodes before even seeing any ratings. It’s like the complete opposite of Southland. NBC is making these decisions by coin toss is it not?

  20. Steve says:

Well I wish they would have waited until March, but bringing it back in January has a couple of advantages. Correct me if I am wrong but it wont be going against Dancing with the stars and it wont be going against Monday night football in january, and they could use the last couple of Sunday night football games to promote it since it is its biggest ratings show.

  21. Melangell says:

    6 more episodes – BRILLiant.

  22. Audrey says:

Wow, image how much difference would NBC treat “Chuck” if it was produced by NBCU. Royalty?

  23. pete5125 says:

Probably is part of the Southland deal, Chuck gets 6 Southland ends at 6, WB do what you want w/ Southland….win/win for NBC especialy if Chuck is a cheaper show and NBC now gets a show with a chance of success and can write off Southland.

I do remeber their being some crazy rule that you can produce a show and never air it then write it off and it being cheaper for a network after said write off than airing the show, w/ bad ratings…I believe TheWB did this with the cartoon Baby Blues in season 2.

  24. George says:

I’m impressed at how quickly this site got ahold of the news from THR. Ausiello and others still havent updated their pages but they may be fact checking, i don’t know.

  25. Rick Holy says:

I hope it works out. Putting it back on Monday nights, however, will be tough. Is NBC looking for a substantial increase in ratings in order for the show to “succeed,” or are they looking for ANYTHING better than how the current show(s) are doing in that time slot??

If they’re content with ratings similar to last year, or maybe just SLIGHTLY better – and if the production cost of the show is less due to the Subway deal – then maybe NBC is happy with what profit they make from the show and Chuck isn’t being given a death sentence.

Promtion is going to be key. If Subway is involved with S3 to the degree we’ve been led to believe, then I would think there would be some kind of CHUCK promo going on in the Subway restaurants. That would be HUGE. A boatload of people eat at Subway – promote CHUCK for a few weeks or a month before the premiere and that’s a lot of exposure. Subway is also going to have to see a return on their investment as well – that will mean Chuckaholics downing more footlongs on Monday nights. If this “partnership” is going to continue into a possible Season 4 of Chuck, Subway is definitely going to want to see a return on their investment.

We’ll see what happens. Hopefully Gaspin can work his magic with Chuck like he has with other shows at USA.

  26. Dan says:

Well its now likely that Trauma will burn off all 13 episodes and end in December and Chuck is more likely to premiere beofre the Olympics. Good Move, now audiences can get used to Chuck in January without there being repeats. With Mercy given a full year and Chuck likely to stay put, its unknown where Parenthood will go. Here’s my Guess

    Monday
    8:00 Chuck
    9:00 Heroes(Jan-Feb)
    9:00 Parenthood (March-May)

Its possible Day One miniseries will fill the Heroes void until March when Parenthood is likely to premiere. Persons Unknown is likely to occupy the Friday 8:00 slot which will be vacated by Law & Order.

  27. Adam says:

I know this is a little crazy thinking, but if you add up the totals, it will be 54 after 3 seasons. If you go two more seasons at 23 episodes a season, then you end up with 100…and I think Chuck would be a great syndication option for something like G4, ScyFy

  28. Dan says:

Chuck could enter syndication but lets just worry about how it performs in its third season. I think the earlier Chuck premieres, the better.

  29. Audrey says:

We’re not even sure season 4 is possible, let alone two full seasons. But thanks for the math.

  30. Dan says:

Mercy should stay in its current slot, but if NBC shifts Heroes to the less competitive 9 slot in January and airs Chuck at 8 that would be a good combo. If Trauma airs all 13 originals until December, then it will end on December 21, 2009.

  31. witheringrose says:

Chuck will probably premiere January 11, 2010 the Monday after NFL wild-card weekend. NBC better go all out with their CHUCK promotional blitz during their 2 wild-card playoff games on the Saturday before.

  32. Tommy says:

@ Adam, NBC couldn’t care less about syndication when it comes to Chuck. Warner Brothers is the company that cares about that, since they are the only ones that will benefit from it. Sure NBC could use it as a reason to lower the shows cost, but other than that NBC doesn’t care about it.

@ Dan, I don’t see them putting Persons Unknown on Fridays. That would almost guarantee it to fail.

  33. Jen says:

Woohoo!!! I’m just happy to get an *almost* full season of Chuck, even if it means waiting a skosh. :D

  34. Spartan says:

Vetinari – Agree 100% on the DVD set before Christmas.

Chuck will be the first reason other then football for me to watch NBC this season.

  35. usedtolovecoco says:

At least NBC has proved over and over that they’re not afraid to promote Chuck and promote it heavily. The Superbowl was just one instance; I remember seeing ads for it constantly leading up to last year’s premiere.

I’ve got a good feeling about it (with no numbers to back it up, just the good feeling =p).

  36. Joss's Biggest Fan says:

An update, from the Hollywood Reporter….

    “By Jay B. Ehf

FOX is ordering 19 more episodes of “Dollhouse.” That’s in addition to the 13 already ordered. The network has totally confirmed it.

Now sources say “Dollhouse” will be paired with “American Idol” on Tuesday nights.”

Isn’t that awesome news?! My psychic told me good news was coming tonight, and my psychic is always right! Yay her!

Dollhouse! Dollhouse! Dollhouse! Dollhouse rules! “Chuck” drools! Dollhouse!

  37. Tommy says:

lmao, you crack me up JBF!

  38. AO says:

    YAY!!!!

Finally some good news for the fans.

And it seems a good strategy for the struggling NBC.

    Win-Win :)

  39. Dan says:

Tommy – But where else would NBC air Persons Unknown. When Law & Order ends, a series has to air in that slot and Persons Unknown and Parenthood have to air somewhere. 1 of those will air 9:00 Monday and the other one would ahve to air Fridays at 8.

JBF – Yeah in a parallell universe where House/Bones/American Idol/The Simpsons and Family Guy are axed. Dolllhouse gets another 19.

  40. chrisjozo says:

That DVD should preferably be out in time for Black Friday. Take advantage of the biggest shopping day of the year.

NBC needs to do some cross promotion on USA network. Chuck’s quirkiness might appeal to the same type of viewers who watch USA’s hit shows and they might tune in.

NBC must promote the show during its sports broadcasts. Have the stars show up at the games like FOX did with Fringe’s Observer.

NBC should also give it the 9/8c timeslot. Its less competition and will give Chuck the good jumpstart it needs.

  41. LupeFiasco says:

Ignore ‘Joss’s Biggest Fan’—probably just a troll who wants the attention. Dollhouse after AI is plain silly by all standards—yeah a show banished to a dead night will be given tv’s cushiest lead-in…..LOL!

  42. Dan says:

chrisjozo – Its likely Heroes would stay put at 8 and Chuck would premiere at 9. Who knows if that would be better airing at 9 with either Parenthood or Persons Unknown airing in the other slot. Which ever doesnt air in the other slot will likely air in place of Law & Order.

  43. Dan says:

With the schedule as it currently is Law & Order should finish up its 16 episodes in January or February. Who knows if NBC is ready to dump it.

  44. Lupe, ignore JBF at your peril. Most of the regular readers of the comments are very familiar with JBF and look forward to his/her comments more than the blog posts!

  45. chrisjozo says:

Dan I said 9/8c because Heroes airs at 7pm in Chicago where I live. So from my perspective Chuck airing after Heroes would be 8pm. I put 9/8c (short for central) in case people are in different time zones.

  46. Chuck3G says:

House @8 or BBT @9:30 Pick your Poison. Why split the Geek fans. They could watch Chuck at 8, then BBT at 9.

  47. Tommy says:

Don’t forget that NBC has Sunday nights to fill after football Dan. The Marriage Ref could go to Friday nights, and Persons Unknown could air in the 8PM Sunday slot. I just don’t see NBC putting any new dramas on Fridays unless they aren’t fully behind the show and want a reason to cancel it.

Also I’m 99.99% sure you are wrong about Heroes staying on at 8 and Chuck airing at 9. Heroes is NBCU produced, Chuck is WB produced, why would NBC want Heroes to compete with House (Also NBCU) when they can throw something they don’t own against it!

  48. johnthemon says:

    Booyah!

The more Chuck the better, and the sooner the better (as long as it doesn’t return in say…November, that would screw up the ratings something terrible).

It seems like since it premiered there has been more time without Chuck than with it. Sept 07-Jan 08, returned in Sept 08-April 09. And now a seventh month break, (pulled back from the planned 9 months).

  49. Chuck3G says:

Isn’t the BBT pulling a bigger demo than House?

  50. forg says:

If the show survives this season, then I think it looks quite good for syndication ala Ugly Betty. I hope Chuck maintains at least a 2.5 demo or at least be even with Heroes.

Chuck and Big Bang Theory are the remaining survivors from the freshman shows I loved from the 07-08 season. Big Bang is here to stay for years to come obviously so I hope this manages to survive. I don’t want Yvonne Strahovski to be unemployed haha :D

  51. Chuck3G says:

Trauma just got cancelled. It is now a lame duck show.

    http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/10/nbc-cancels-trauma-.html

  52. vsaint says:

Seems like people expect some kind of NCIS breakout, because of Oylmpic promo potential.
I just don’t see it, i’m a casual Chuck viewer, and i’m only going to watch it live on wednesday 8pm. Which is a blackhole for me, but that’s not happening because f MERCY.
Monday 8pm is stacked with HOUSE, CBS Comedies, Dancing.

  53. Budo says:

I just finished Chuck S2 yesterday and I’m already wanting more. January sounds about right.

  54. Scott R. says:

Provided they’re far enough removed from wrapped to draft quality episodes into the storyline, as a fan, I’m thrilled. The timing doesn’t worry me, as they have two months to promote, and their five week hiatus last Dec-Feb went over just fine; a few weeks off for the Olympics shouldn’t be too hazardous.

However, it’s pretty clearly going to be replacing Trauma, and if they switch it with Heroes to be back up against House, it will not bode well for the show’s ratings. It would do so much better in Mercy’s 8-Wed time slot, and that it is so unlikely they will give it a chance it is just sad.

  55. LupeFiasco says:

“I don’t want Yvonne Strahovski to be unemployed”

Forg, I highly doubt that this would be an issue. I read in a Forbes article about stars of tomorrow that she has several films lined up in 2010. She did do 3 or so films in Australia this past summer.

  56. Paul 80 says:

You guys are fast. we just found out a hour ago

  57. Bill Gorman says:

Chuck3G, current 18-49 Live+SD average ratings (these are the top 3 scripted shows after 5 weeks of the season):

    BBT 5.0
    House 5.5
    Grey’s 5.7

  58. Heradite says:

    CHUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

    This is Chuckilicous!

  59. Chuck3G says:

Thanks. Well in January 24 comes back. Do you want Chuck against 24, 2.5 ment BBT. It is a toss up.

Mondays are tough. We just need last years audience.

  60. Dan says:

With Trauma axed, it seems all but a certainty that Chuck will fill the slot maybe beginning January 4 once Trauma has finished.

    R.I.P. Trauma September 28, 2009 – December 21, 2009

  61. Paul 80 says:

You guys are so fast. We just found out at 7:30 PM pacific time. Everyone was very excited.

  62. Paul: congrats on the extra episodes! Others were faster than us, but I was eyeballing the world of television while watching the World Series.

  63. Chuck3G says:

    Paul you work for Chuck?

    If you do congrats.

  64. Dan says:

Tommy – I forgot about that. The Marriage Ref is a likely contender for Fridays with Persons Unknown airing Sundays. And Heroes is already competing with House, so airing the final 4 episodes in that slot in January wouldnt hurt Heroes anymore. If anything once the two hour 24 and Bachelor come into play, that will hurt Heroes. I dont know why for just the final few episodes NBC would move Heroes to 9 and Chuck at 8. It may seem likely Chuck would move up to 8 beginning March. I do think its possible that Heroes could move to 9 in January and Chuck can premiere at 8. With Heroes and Law & Order finishing in Feb NBC has 2 slots to fill and 2 new dramas. My guess is that Marriage Ref could move to 8:00 fridays and either Persons Unknown or Parenthood can be paired with Chuck. Im betting Persons airs with Chuck and Parenthood airs sundays. Well see when NBC announces their midseason sched.

  65. Theoacme says:

JBF – why so pessimistic? I thought the Holywood Reporter said eleventy episodes?

Bill, Robert – a yacht dealer just left me a message for you – he has Quincy’s old yacht, totally refurbished, which will take 20 posts about Chuck to pay off :D

Five, five dollar, five dollar Chuck long ;)

  66. olddarth says:

    Congrats Paul!

  67. Well, that’s good news. The earlier the better.

  68. forg says:

LupeFiasco: Thanks for the info, I was not aware she has movie lined up, but still a regular TV show is steady income haha. And well I want to my regular Yvonne TV fix :D

  69. Rick Holy says:

@RSH. Good to hear from you! Thought maybe you had passed on to “TV heaven.” And I’m with you, BRING ON THE CHUCK!!

By the way, bought both seasons of TSCC and have been enjoying Summer Glau as Cameron. People who say she can’t act don’t seem to understand that she’s acting like a freaking robot, not a drama queen! Some of her lines are CLASSIC: “Cameron, is that your car? No. It belongs to the guy who I just killed and stuffed in the trunk.”

It doesn’t get any better than THAT!! :)

  70. Tory says:

This is great news in terms of getting a longer season of Chuck. As for picking up new viewers, I’m skeptical on whether January is better than March. I kind of think people would be more willing to begin watching a returning series at the start of a new season as opposed to midway through, as will be the case in the post-Olympics time now. And I put more value on the Olympics this season just because I don’t think anyone is watching NBC right now, so its hard for people to know when anything will be on. But we can just hope for the best and hope that NBC launches a major off network promo campaign.

As for how NBC treated Southland and this being a coin toss, I don’t think so at all. Chuck does have an established and steady fan base that produced a steady demo rating. Southland had a little more than a handful of episodes and a dwindling, not steady, viewership. Very different situations, even beyond the tones of the shows.

  71. Nightstar says:

Wonder if NBC will do some sort of “catch up” marathon somewhere along the way by airing some key episodes of Chuck from last season? Thanksgiving Chuck-a-thon? December being the hash of a schedule it generally is, maybe a few mini-thons before January to get attention? Throw in some sort of Subway-sponsored advertising gimmick tie-in with the Olympics (Chuck-lympics?) and Jeffster doing some music video commercials? Freewheeling on thoughts here and, well, not to be impolite, but NBC may have some holes in the schedule that could be filled. (Chuck ALL WEEK when Leno goes dark for reruns!) :-)

This is definitely a nice (and very early) Christmas present to the Chuck fans, that much is certain (while Trauma got a rock in its Halloween bag). Six of the “back 9″ already — that is a good sign of faith by someone in the management (and, yes, probably also declining faith in the shows already on the schedule). Regardless, Chuck got an investment of faith by someone at NBC (why give more episodes if they didn’t like the show?). I hope the faith is rewarded with more seasons to come. Congrats, fans of Chuck. Congrats. :-)

  72. Brian says:

THIS is The best news I’ve had in a loooong time…..
They need to PROMOTE CHUCK Heavily on Sunday Night football and on USA
Network And get the word out Put up displays at Subways that the show is coming back and Its better than ever!!!!!

  73. Tar says:

they could theoretically put persons unknown in a weak timeslot since its an international co-production and is very cheap for them and it “seems” like a dark show unlike their current lineup (though this persons unknown audition tape make me laugh so hard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv0eqBIFxp4&feature=related )
there was a March 3 2010 premiere dated floating around for it though so maybe Mercy will be moved?

  74. MIke the Canadian says:

This season has been uneventful and frankly quite dull, none of the returning shows have done anything spectacular, cable offers the only bright lights so far, Chuck is the only highlight I see on the horizon, and with more eps already ordered its an early litmus test to their quality. Bring on the chuck cause I’m dying for some funny.

  75. Skouse says:

Are they putting chuck with House and DWTS?
    is that a good idea?
Chuck seems like a good show, funny, but house fan basis is big ratings for DWTS is hard to beat so they would be better off airing it on Tuesday…
Come on January hurry up and get here!!!

  76. tommy says:

time to find new love interests for chuck and sarah.

  77. melbye says:

I hope this means more Kristin kreuk

  78. dustin says:

This is the best news of the decade! Unfortunately it wont come in time for Christmas with the Bartowskis.

  79. UH says:

Well ….finally a decent decision by NBC …Chuck risks to go from bubble show to greatest NBC hit :)

  80. dustin says:

I just wanted to add something else. Isn’t it ironic that six months ago we were wondering if NBC would keep the show and now Chuck is like their replacement pitcher? How ironic.

  81. Samuel says:

6 more episodes sounds very nice. Even though the numbers will be disappointing at least were gonna get more of season 3 than expected.

I wonder if the 13 episodes are already done… Adding 6 episodes when you already have your season finale must be touchy…

  82. UH says:

Samuel , they are filming the episode #9 today , I believe there is enough time to make some chenge to the last couple of episodes

    …so … shouldn’t be so bad :)

  83. Chuckit says:

Once again. The Chuck writer and producer Phil Klemmer said on a Chuck TV podcast that they love the tight season 3 the way it is. He said they have no problem writing a six episode mini season. They don’t want filler, they want a tight story line.

As of yesterday they are just finishing writing 3.12. The extra episodes would be 3.5 kind of like a mini season. :D

  84. Liban A says:

    CHUCK!

  85. Psac says:

Six more episodes of Stra-hot-ski. I love it.

  86. Fennerbender says:

Oh no this means I have to reschedule my Chuck Viewing Party to the weekend before the premier in January. Its work, but its a good work!

  87. Samuel says:

Oh, well if it fits well, its fine by me!

  88. Samuel says:

I wonder if there is a plan of pairing the new Abrams spy show with Chuck

  89. Chucksmom says:

Best week in TV in a long time!

Mal showed up in Castle’s appartment & NBC is finally making better decisions!

    Go Chuck!

  90. Eric (Ohio) says:

January? That means they should start advertising now. Get the hype up, promote the hell out of this show!

  91. LupeFiasco says:

Does anyone know if they are still planning to film any webisodes as they originally stated? I will love to see webisodes of Chuck at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  92. Articulate Shnook says:

This news has made my day. Finally NBC does something right for a change. Now if we could only get the season two DVD before christmas everything would be right in the world.:)

  93. Dylan says:

Though this is excellent news for the Chuck fan in me (This is a WAY better chance at success then we had originally anticipated), I’m also a bit cautious.

That “Taking Mercy’s 8 pm time slot on Wed.” seems like a great idea, but as has been said, isn’t likely to happen. Wednesday’s at 8 are way more promising than leaving it to fend for itself against the House juggernaut. Only time will tell.

  94. Bret says:

    Hope it gets cancelled…lol….

  95. ryan says:

OMG This is so exciting, i love Chuck, that would bring it to 21 episodes, almost a full season order

  96. jim says:

Yes!! This is awesome! Go Chuck!!!

  97. LupeFiasco says:

    ryan,
    13 initial order + 6 additional order = 19 episodes

    not 21 episodes

NBC could possibly make it a full 22 episode order if Chuck performs well enough (2.5+).

  98. Tee says:

Very good news! Bf and I got addicted to Chuck over the summer, thanks to Netflix. I wish season 2 would be out earlier so we’d have some more time to catch up before the new season rolls out though.

I’d love to see them put it in a less competitive timeslot too, but hey, I’ll take what I can get!

  99. ryan says:

OOPS, i just realised that, im duh at times lol

  100. Kevin says:

Idea: Instead of running repeats of The Jay Leno Show which will get hammered, how about running five episodes of Chuck, every week night at 10?

Chuck has a loyal fanbase, but ultimately it will get crushed on any night, this way you can allow viewers to get their dose of Chuck and only have to DVR their other shows for one week every 2 months?

Yes, it’s risky, but I think unlike game shows that got spread out over an entire week in the early 00’s Chuck fans will tune in. Right now the episode count is 19, so one more and you could do it five times.

Pick a week in January, March, April and May that most other nets are in reruns as well and you might be able to establish a bigger fanbase, and justify a normal arrangement for a fourth season next year.

NBC is a joke nowadays so why not try something innovative that hasn’t been done on broadcast TV before?

    *Broadcast TV in America, Kevin…

BBC ran 5 episodes of Torchwood: Children of the Earth in a row, monday – friday.

  102. chet says:

    sry about trauma
    but GO JEFFSTER

  103. Dan says:

I dont think there will be any more episodes, I think 19 seems like the 22 for this year. The DVD release date was announced for January 5, Trauma has just been axed, and 6 more episodes have been ordered. Now NBC needs to confirm Chuck’s January return.

  104. Jack says:

    Can’t wait.

  105. Gerry says:

Tvonne Strahovski was interviewed on Carson Daly’s Last Call on 10/27.

  106. Gerry says:

    Oops, change the “T” to a “Y”

  107. Hector says:

I posted the news to the confirmation but I guess my submission comment didn’t go through or wasn’t approved.

  108. luvmygrys says:

Yeah! This is the best news I have had all week. Go Chuck. I will watch it on Monday and I would watch it on Tuesday, I would watch it on any day. I would watch it with Subway foot longs and I would watch it with yogurt. I would watch my Chuck at any time and any day.
As for House, I’ll Hulu it.

  109. Dan says:

NBC should confirm Chuck premiering in January when they announce their midseason schedule though besides Chuck there wont be that many changes, just new series on sundays and new series replacing Heroes and Law & Order when they finish up.

  110. amy says:

YES! I love Chuck and have missed the show. Please, NBC, give Chuck the promotion it deserves. SNL, MNF, Leno , Ellen, etc. Everyone I’ve turned on to Chuck loves it. This is AWESOME!

  111. Sheldon says:

    Chuck! Chuck! Chuck! Whooooooop! :)

  112. Eric says:

Only thing I’d be worried about regarding a January return is bumping up against the 24 season premiere… and well, bumping into 24 generally. Then again, 24’s numbers last year were much lower than in past seasons… so maybe it won’t be the crusher that it once was. Still though, I’d fear having Chuck face off against House too.

  113. JohnMobile says:

Wow, just like an extra half season and early start to boot.

Can’t wait for the ChuckMe Jeffster combo meals with spy gaget toys, lol.

  114. Mike says:

We Have To Protest NBC Yet Again To Move It’s Time Slot, Friday & Saturdays Are DeadWeight 4 Shows To Die. Monday & Thursdays Is Murder Row With Heavy-Hitters. Sunday / Tuesday Or Wednesday Is Where It Should Be. Chuck Needs To Continue Growing Its FanBase, Whatever It Takes. Awesome ! ! !

  115. johnthemon says:

@Forg, even after the newly extended third season, chuck will only have 54 episodes. That’s just more than half-way to syndication.

  116. Ghaith says:

    thank u NBC
surely you are making the right decision
nothing beyond romantic,comedy,action,sci-fi, and dramatic show named as “chuck”

    you will not regret NBC
