FOX looks to massive Sunday ratings with focus on Favre’s return to Lambeau and World Series

Favre

This Sunday’s national NFL afternoon game on FOX featuring Brett Favre’s return to Lambeau Field will be carried in 91% of the country.  Barring a blowouts, the ratings for FOX should be pretty spectacular between the Vikings-Packers game and game four of the World Series.

For those who can’t get enough of Brett Favre, FOX plans to have a camera on the 50-yard-line “isolated on Favre from the second he takes the field against his former team until the moment he runs back into the locker room.”   Every second of the Favre love-fest will be available on foxsports.com and nfl.com.

After two games, the World Series is shaping up as well as FOX could possibly have hoped for.  With the best ratings for a game one in five years under its belt and the best of seven series now tied at 1-1,  by Sunday’s game four, either the Yankees or the Phillies will be up 2 game to 1.

That makes Sunday a very pivotal game.  Either one team will go up 3-1 or knot the series up at 2-2.   If it gets to 2-2, FOX will be happier, as for the first time in six years a World Series will have gone at least six games.  But regardless of how Sunday’s games shake out, FOX couldn’t be in any better position entering the day.

Darn it. No sweep, thanks to Pedro’s inability to hold a comfortable 1 nothing lead.

  2. E says:

The Minnesota-Green Bay may reach record numbers for any regular season football game. I expect a 25.0 to 30.0 rating for this game.
World Series may get up to about a 15 for the night.

  3. Steve says:

Will we get reports on the ratings for the NFL game? We usually don’t see afternoon numbers, even for Sundays.

  4. Bill Gorman says:

Steve, I’m pretty sure if that Favre v. Packers game does as well as its expected that Fox will put out a press release and we’ll get the ratings.

  5. Bret says:

AppleStinx, a 1-0 lead is not a comfortable lead in baseball unless you have mariano riviera on the mound in the 9th inning

  6. romo says:

Da Bears/Dolphins on MNF in 1985 got a 29.6 rating.

  7. AppleStinx says:

I know, Bret. I was mocking the Yankees hitters up to when it was 1-0. I also know that when A-Rod wakes up from his 0.000 BA slump, WATCH OUT. Too bad the series will be over when *that* happens.

  8. Vikins lead 24-3 early in the 3rd.

  9. Chris the TV Sage says:

Starting to look like a blowout – that 9 demo from the MNF game is looking safe.

  10. CTTS says:

    Yeah, scratch that :)

  11. FOX also gets the benefit of not having to compete with a SNF game tonight. I don’t think “National Treasure” is going to pull a good number for NBC.
