Eastwick bounced on Wednesday November 18 in favor of Janet Jackson special

According to The Futon Critic’s twitter account, ABC is pre-empting the November 18, 2009 airing of Eastwick in favor of a Janet Jackson special.

While no doubt disappointing for Eastwick fans, the show is clearly on a trajectory of playing out the string until the string (of 13 episodes) runs out and it falls into the dead pool.  Given the November sweeps period, the schedule machinations are not surprising.

I’ll post the ABC scheduling announcement when they release it. Details of the episode of Eastwick originally scheduled for 11/18 are below:

ROXIE IS THRILLED WHEN DARRYL UNEXPECTEDLY ARRANGES AN ART SHOW

FOR HER AND INVITES A NEW YORK ART MAVEN, JOANNA SUFFERS CONSEQUENCES

WHEN SHE TURNS TO HER POWER TO GET HER LIFE BACK ON TRACK, AND

AN UNSURE KAT SHIES AWAY FROM ROMANCE WITH WILL, ON ABC’ “EASTWICK”

Guest Stars Include Rosanna Arquette as New York Art Maven, Greta Noa

“Paint and Pleasure” – Thrilled when Darryl arranges an art show for her work at his mansion — and invites New York art maven Greta Noa (Rosanna Arquette) — Roxie forgets that his motives might be less than pure. Joanna turns to her power to get her life back on track, but swiftly discovers that every action, magical or otherwise, has its consequences. And Kat, still unsure about how to move on from Ray, shies away from a budding romance with Will, on “Eastwick,” WEDNESDAY,
NOVEMBER 18
(10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Eastwick” stars Ashley Benson as Mia Torcoletti, Jon Bernthal as Raymond Gardener, Veronica Cartwright as Bun Waverly, Jaime Ray Newman as Kat Gardener, Lindsay Price as Joanna Frankel, Rebecca Romijn as Roxanne (Roxie) Torcoletti, Sara Rue as Penny Higgins, Johann Urb as Will St. David and Paul Gross as Darryl Van Horne.

Guest starring are Jack Huston as Jamie Dalton, Torsten Voges as Fidel, Jason George as Max Brody, Rosanna Arquette as Greta Noa, Paul Greene as guy, Todd Sherry as Everett, Haviland Stillwell as Suzy, Larry Udy as tourist #1, Kathleen M. Darcy as tourist #2, Anastasia Coon as partygoer #1 and Michael Santorico as partygoer #2.

“Paint and Pleasure” was written by Annie Weisman and directed by John Terlesky.

“Eastwick” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1 channel surround sound and Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. A TV parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.

  1. Michael says:

I think LOST will take this slot on Wednesday.

  2. Tks says:

Aww man, come on abc don’t do this.

  3. ABCHasProblems says:

Maybe they could plug the bumped episode in after DH the following Sunday. It really wouldn’t hurt to see if Eastwick is more compatible with DH than B&S.

  4. Gusar says:

“quiet success” my ass. I knew that was just marketing BS.

  5. Dan says:

Hopefully the series can still burn through its 13 episode order into December.

  6. ABCrocks says:

I can’t wait to watch the Janet special!

  7. B says:

    Can’t wait to see Janet!!!!

  8. Dan says:

This makes it harder for Eastwick to air all 13 episodes but I’m thinking somehow ABC will manage it.

  9. Michael says:

Dan, I’m sure they’ll manage it- the question is how many will air in the summer of 2010?

  10. i says:

janet jackson special will be amazing, can someone from US please post it on youtube because i live in the UK, thanks a lot

  11. Janfanforlife says:

    * WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT “EASTWICK” I’VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF IT ! ITS ALL ABOUT JANET DAMITA JO JACKSON!!!!!!! YAY!!!! WE LOVE YOU JANET*

  12. Elly says:

Janet is old. And if this is live she will probably have another boob accident/malfunction. Eastwick on the other hand, is far more entertaining.

  13. TD says:

“Eastwick” is very good. ABC has great skill in killing good shows. They really damaged “Ugly Betty” last year by letting the dreadful “In the Motherhood” and the very good “Samantha Who?” having its hour around March and April of this year. “Ugly Betty” deserves a better time slot than Friday nights at 9! Anyhow, trying “Eastwick” after a new “Desperate Housewives” on a Sunday night is a great idea!

  14. VP says:

Really? Janet? We don’t get to watch Eastwick so ABC can air a show on a has-been singer? Why doesn’t ABC try a different time slot with EW? It has loyal fans but the 10pm airing is rough! Or maybe **fingers crossed** a different network that would really do something with Eastwick will pick it up!

  15. Dan says:

Eastwick could have gotten the post Housewives slot if B&S werent airing there. Hopefully ABC likes Eastwick well enough to let it air all episodes. I hope for no summer burn offs.

  16. Sh says:

Everyone saying Janet is a has-been is just plain stupid. She is one of the ONLY icons left from the 80s, and I cannot wait to see the special. Has been? Surely you jest. Get a clue. I love Eastwick, but Janet is not the only thing preempting it, because next week the CMAs are preempting it as well.

  17. Ann says:

Come on! Janet Jackson? The ONLY reason they are allowing this is because her brother died. The fact they are bouncing Eastwick in favor of this abortion is because someone needs to renew her career and what better opportunity to do it after one’s brother died. This is sad and ABC sucks for doing it.

  18. annie says:

yeah – this is bullcrap. eastwick is FAR better than janet – whom i do like – but c’mon – FINALLY a show that actually gets me to watch something on ABC and they’re gonna kill it after one season? abc sucks

  19. meaghan says:

Really? Another week of no Eastwick come on Abc this week the CMA’S now Janet Jackson. Put the janet jackson special on a different night or move eastwick to a different time slot. Canceling this show is one of the dumbest things they could do. Why even bother to start watching a new abc show when all they do is cancel the good and keep the crap.
