The 2009 World Series dominated the action with both overall viewing and adults 18-49 viewing. With the game or pregame coverage taking root at the top of both charts. FOX’s The OT that followed the Vikings-Packers game on Sunday night was third with adults 18-49 and seventh overall.
Monday-Wednesday of last week CBS aired repeats. Last Monday’s repeat The Big Bang Theory trailed only new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and The Office for the week among scripted shows. When it comes to reruns, CBS is the envy of the broadcast networks. Even the older-skewing NCIS repeat was 22nd with adults 18-49. It was sixth among total viewers.
On to the lists!

WOW DH has beat Grey’s anatomy in viewers.
now there’s something we havent seen in a while
very happy for desperate housewives i LOVE that show
let it continue staying steady
Actually Desperate Housewives has really dropped in the ratings this season. DH used to always be in the top 10 for total viewers, now they rarely make the top 10. So far for the season, it ranks #16 in total viewers,,last season they were #10. I can see why, I just havent cared for this season, way too many story lines(most of them boring) and not enough time with all the girls together(I miss those Poker games and Coffee Talks). I hate that Lynette is pregnant with twins(at her age?), Tom is in College(again at his age), Bree and Carl?(Zero Chemistry). I loved the edition of Dana Delaney last season but this season her character is just annoying. and where is that Old Lady? she used to be in every episode, now not so much.
Maybe they can do what Dallas did years ago, make this bad season all a dream(or nightmare in this case).
The one bright spot is that Yes, DH is beating Grey’s which I gave up watching last season
@ tom, I have to disagree. The new season is MUCH better than last season. I seriously love it. It has a darker feel to it. Plus, there’s a perfect balance between comedy and drama. Also, we are seeing more of the girls together, not for poker, but sill. I’m seriously loving the new season.
I’m glad it beat GA this week, but I doubt the same will happen next week.
Oh, also, it didn’t make it to the top 10 this week because four world series games are on the list.
Hope to see an increase next week.
Manra, well, I am happy that you are happy with the current season of DH. For me, if they dont step up their game, they will lose me just like grey’s lost me last season. There are just way to many choices on tv today to have to deal with Mediocrity.
But again, glad that you are happy with DH
Yes, we can agree that DH is down in the ratings, but that doesn’t really matter depending on how you spin it. Last season the show started off strong in the ratings and by May ratings had sunk as low as 13 million a week. This year sirens went off when it premiered with only 13 million viewers, but something has been happening that hasn’t happened to this show since Season 1. Ratings are increasing as the season progresses. It now averages 14 million viewers weekly. It is probably one of the only shows that has gained viewers since it’s premiers.
In September Grey’s and House were far ahead in ratings, with 16-17 million viewers for their premiers, now they have reached a point where housewives is starting to close in on them. ABC was smart to lock Marc Cherry with this show through 2013, because it’s obvious from all the behind the scenes drama at Grey’s, a deal like that can never be reached on that show. Plus I’m betting certain actors like Katherine Heigl will either leave or ask for a ridiculous pay bump, which In turn could turn the Housewives against the network as well if they see Grey’s actors getting a bigger salary raise. That’s why ABC should secure a deal with the Housewives before they do anything with Grey’s.
Actually Tom DH steady ratings increase since the premire has them placed at #11 for the current season. I agree this season is 100% better than the 5th and they are getting their audience back. I hope they can bump up their average esp. since the plane crash is coming hopefully that will mix things up along with a increased viewership like the fire failed last season. Also i think GA is slipping very much in quality i can hardly watch anymore.
Grey’s is just something which can be made easily, throw in a medical emergencey and there is an hour’s worth of TV.
Desperate Housewives is classic, it comes up with GOOD and RELATABLE circumstances which GA doesnt come up with, SORRY!!!
TOM im sorry but i dont agree at all with what your saying. Grey’s was the same last season being 13 million viewers weekly whereas DH got aroun 15 million. it has just changed.
desperate housewives is better than Grey’s anatomy by far
especially this season!!!!
Well if you really think about it, when you average out both shows six season runs, they are probably dead tied when it comes to value for ABC. Grey’s might be the winner now, but at it’s peak it never topped the phenomenal ratings ‘Housewives’ reached in it’s first two seasons. It wasn’t until Season three when Grey’s beat DH, and that wasn’t because it increased, it was because DH ratings started sinking. Housewives then reclaimed the title again in Season 4, and GA took it last season. So far this year it has gone to GA, but it will be closer than you think by the time the season ends.
Desperate Housewives
Season 1: 23.7 million
Season 2: 22.2 million
Season 3: 17.5 million
Season 4: 18.2 million
Season 5: 14.3 million
Grey’s Anatomy
Season 1: 18.5 million
Season 2: 20.3 million
Season 3: 21.3 million
Season 4: 15.9 million
Season 5: 14.5 million
As you can see, GA never reached the height that DH was at.
OMG!!! I hope Housewives continue increasing they deserve this season isn’t obviusly hillarious but compared to last season, 6th is miles away better than 5th
I agree that DH is improved this season as is GA. As to DH’s high numbers in season 1&2, they would never been reached in the Thursday 9pm slot vs CSI. They have always had an easy slot, so GA’s nos. are certainly more impressive. They are #4 so far this season in the crucial 18-49 demo.
DESPERTAE HOUSEWIVES HAD 15.8 MILLION LAST SEASON
GREY’S IS JUST GETTING MORE REPETETIVE
I have watched DH fart more often than GA; obviously I think at its peak it was a better show. But I’ll give you in one sentence why I think GA is more successful in the demo than DH: New Age mysticism, ” Ghost” and “Ghost Whisperer” style, pervades that show. Cast characters never really die – they just float away to be admonished by ghosts or angels or something vague and warm and fuzzy, and either come back having learned a lesson, or float off into a happy hunting ground somewhere. DH has many faults, but its more honest about death. In a young TV viewing public that’s less and less church going conservative Christian, but that wants to have its cake and eat it too with a vague benevolent Positive Energy or Big Electron in the Sky, GA works because it neither challenges its fans’ ridiculous sexual fantasies or the public’s gutless and uintellectuallycozy and dishonest belief in the supernatural.
Yes I know about the typo. Maybe its the Big Electron in the Sky’s joke at my expense. He, She or It is really a laugh riot. Funnier even than Larry David.
