  1. Demonjoe says:

Hannity did better than The O’reilly Factor and Glenn Beck.

  2. AppleStinx says:

The folks at Media Matters must be throwing a hissy fit as we speak and demanding a revision of the word “huge”.

  3. carl says:

oreilly just lost his record for number 1 cable news show go hannity

  4. Nightstar says:

You know, Fox News vs. everyone else is starting to feel like a daily replay of Secretariat winning the Triple Crown — especially the 31-length victory at Belmont.

  5. Demonjoe says:

carl, actually there was one day where Glenn Beck beat The O’reilly Factor.

  6. Rod Williams says:

WITH THE CNN FORMAT OF FAILURE SEEMINGLY OK WITH THE NETWORK’S PROPGRAMMING BOSS, IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME WHEN MY CB RADIO WILL HAVE MORE OF A FOLLOWING !

MSNBC APPARENTLY HAS A SIMILAR CORPORATE BIAS OF LET’S KEEP DOING THE SAME THING WITH THE SAME UNATTRACTIVE LEFTY COMMENTATORS AND MAYBE WE CAN BECOME ANOTHER PATHETIC FAILURE LIKE CNN.

FOX SHOULD SEND GIFTS TO THESE PROGRAMMERS AT CNN AND MSNBC THANKING THEM FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE FOX NEWS CHANNEL.

THE OLD AXION OF IF YOU DON’T DO A GOOD JOB AND ARE NOT COMPETITIVE YOUR FIRED DOESN’T SEEM TO APPLY TO THE AIR STAFF OF MSNBC OR CNN.

  7. Gary says:

WOW!! Way to go FOX NEWS, what numbers, can only laugh at CNN and MSPMS how lousy their numbers are for an election night, how can the person in charge put up with such lousy numbers?

  8. Adam says:

Do People even know that CNBC exists?? LOL! They should replace Campbell Brown with the Hottie Robin Meade.

  9. Gibson says:

Is Fox Business Channel still around?

  10. carl says:

when will stossel come to fox news the line up should

    be

    beck 5
    bair 6
    stossel 7
    oreilly 8
    hannity 9
    greta 10
    shep smith 11
    red eye 12
    that is ratings gold

  11. bf says:

I do not know why CNBC is included in comparisons. This channels is mostly Wall Street and day traders. Weather is also news but you do not include weather channel in these charts.

  12. carl says:

i think what really puts fox above the rest is the passion of their commentators they deliver an opinion and don’t treat you like an idiot for disagreeing also the ascetics the they offer very pleasing colors msnbc is too bright and futuristic and cnn is too old and bland

  13. Gibson says:

Isnt the Weather Channel now owned by NBC?

  14. Gibson says:

    Ha!

  15. dst says:

Something to consider, when a news story of the importance of balloon boy comes along, CNN has a surge, when it comes to a more non-news event such as an election, FOX rules!

  16. not here says:

Wow, my post was deleted. I guess I broke some rule in not joining the praise faux news parade. It wasn’t even an insulting post, no profanity. Interesting. Didn’t realize TVBTN was such an anti-free speech, little tent type of site. Fits right in with the beck and hanntiy praise-a-thon, tho. Didn’t mean to disrupt the echo chamber with a contrary opinion…

  17. Rush and Glenn are right says:

It’s ok to be late with the numbers. We already knew the outcome….Foxnews then …blah…blah….blah..:-)

  18. Nightstar says:

RE: Isnt the Weather Channel now owned by NBC?

Yep, they bought it last year (2008) and promptly started changing things, including staff reductions and adding “weather related movies” (in fact, TVBTN had a post about it somewhere recently):

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/21/the-weather-channel-to-begin-airing-feature-films/31174

    Just FYI :-)

  19. db says:

no olbermann tonite–they will say he is visiting his father or that he is at the world series but after last nites walkout it is obvious he is pouting because of the GOP’s success and his getting clobbered even worse than usual by Fox.

  20. Eric says:

MSNBC will never get rid of Olberman or Maddow because GE owns them and the government owns GE and both are hardcore Obama supporters. I’m sure if Glenn dug really deep he would find that Obama is financially subsidizing MSNBC for the lost of ratings as long as they still worship him the way they do.

  21. GaryD7310 says:

If you look at all the TV Personalites on all the cable channels, if you were to stand them all together, which network’s Personalities are more fun to watch, have more charactor and most of all, more honest? You have Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity and Greta, no wonder Fox kicks butt, honestly, can Madcow, Oberbite and Matthews really compete with that? No way, and what about CNN, that is like watching paint dry.

  22. carl says:

garyd i believe beck already looked into that i believe ge received bailout funds and their set to make the most profit off this climate change hysteria obama is pushing

  23. clint says:

I heard Lou Dobbs may be coming to FOX as well. Think about all the defectors of these controlling left-wing media channels. Greta came from CNN to FOX. Glenn left CNN for FOX. Don Imus is on Fox Business now. John Stossel left ABC for FOX. OReilly came from ABC. Britt Hume came from ABC. I attribute all of this to the same reason they have said in the past that every other country hates the U.S. They never hated the U.S.; that’s just what the media said. They were jealous of us, no doubt, with our Republic of individual liberties. I guess you could call it ‘country envy.’ Kind of like how the mainstream media tries to keep the ‘Rich vs. Poor’, and ‘Left vs. Right’ beef in their favor. It all seems to add up. And we have had enough of it. Other countries DEPEND on us to succeed! They are as nervous now as we are. We have let our freedoms slip away bit by bit for the last 100 years. And media has aided that.

But now, the voices of common sense are taking hold. And in the media world, they are only taking hold at FOX. Journalists at other networks are no longer going to have their fair words twisted into a bias for a progressive agenda toward a socialistic country. Some still honor the journalistic creed, and are uncomfortable appeasing an agenda. Hence, the transition to FOX. And for the opinion programs…FOX has it’s own opinion programs, and they are noted as such. The other mainstream networks have their NEWS programs transformed into nothing more than propaganda! And they will fail.

The only thing left is what might be inevitable. A government bailout of the Fascist news media. It’s on the horizon. Be ready. Reasonable people will be. One thing you can count on in government, is if they try to bail it out, it will be to their advantage. If they side with it, it can’t be good for the American people. And if they attack it, they are attacking you…..If not personally, it soon will be in one form or another.

God Bless America, the Founding Fathers and their vision, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, Freedom.

  24. eric says:

Fox news dominates because they back the truth with audio, video, and hard facts. That’s the fact jack!

  25. JC says:

This is just sad. Fox gets over 4 million in prime time – doubling there usual numbers while the other networks can’t even break a million.

Also, I know this has nothing to do with ratings, but did anyone see
Olbermann’s face when Bob Mcdonnell won in a landslide. LOL. I think I saw a tear.

  26. GaryD7310 says:

JC, I refuse to watch Oberbite, I can’t even watch Football Night in America before the kickoff because he is on there. Funny how the NFL won’t let Rush buy a team, yet they put Oberbite on NFL Football ever Sunday Night and he is the one who is hateful and plain right sick.

  27. Grady says:

I guess this means that as more people are disappointed by Obama, more people will turn to Fox News…

  28. YesGlennBeck! says:

Consider West Coast is 3 hours behind, a better line up should be:

    Shep Smith 5ET/2PT
    Bair 6ET/3PT

Stossel 7ET/4PT (West Coast may need to DVR)
    Oreilly 8ET/5PT
    Glenn Beck 9ET/6PT
    Hannity 10ET/7PT
    Greta 11ET/8PT

    Re-run:
    Oreilly 12ET/9PT
    Glenn Beck 1ET/10PT
    Hannity 2ET/11PT

    Red Eye 3ET/12PT

That will be awesome! But you may want to “DVR”, too many good shows and you don’t want to miss any of them.

  29. Joan says:

    Carl………I think>>>>>

    Baier 5
    Beck 6
    oreilly 7
    hannity 8
    greta 9
    stossel 10
    red eye 12

    FOX # 1

  30. Levolor says:

These numbers are astonishing. I guess the Obama administration attacks did not have the intended effect, or perhaps backfired.

  31. mediaman64 says:

The numbers don’t lie. More people are watching FOX news than ever before. Not only are they reporting on what is really happening behind the scenes, they are engaging and fun to watch. Nice work!

  32. bot d00d says:

“In 2007, [CNBC] was ranked as the 19th most valuable cable channel in the U.S., worth roughly $4 billion.”

    Why??

  33. CivilWar says:

ZOMG! 1.3% of Americans tuned in to Fox “news” to watch the Democrats actually gain further control of Congress with a win in a district that has not seen a donkey since the Civil War.

    Very impressive.

On a side note, shouldn’t the numbers for Entertainment Tonight and TMZ be thrown in for comparison? I think it is somewhat disingenuous to not include the other entertainment channels in the ratings breakdown…

  34. Cody says:

Civilwar the only reason a Third Party Candidate didn’t win was because the republican dropped out and endorsed the democrat. Also some people voted for her (dont ask me why it doesn’t make sense) ans splintered his votes.

By the Way the last time the Republicans swept the two Governor races was in 1993, one year later THE CONSERVATIVES TOOK THE HOUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 40 YEARS. WATCH OUT BAMA WERE COMING.

  35. OzzieTdoggie says:

    Civil War
Keep Spinning buddy. Maybe America doesn’t want Obama style socialsim.

  36. CivilWar says:

There is no need to spin. The Democrats control the White House and the Congress (with an even greater majority now.) America made its decision. It is simple as that. You guys can keep drinking your magic tea and dreaming of another day, but the cold hard facts are you guys (the 19% of Americans that admit they are Republicans) are on the outside looking in…

Does the governor of New Jersey or Virginia effect ANYTHING? Nope. Not unless you live in New Jersey or Virginia. Does another seat in Congress for the Democrats give them more leverage to pass bills that will help dig us out of the Bush Crater? Yes.

So look to the past or look to the future and believe what you want to believe. In the end, it is the now that matters and right now no one really cares what Republicans think (well, beyond the shrinking base of wingnuts and Fox “news.”)

Anyway, the partisan politics on this site has really been getting out of hand the last few weeks. It is getting to the point most independent minded people might just start avoiding TVBTN because clearly it has become a rightwing nest rather than just a place to talk about TV…

  37. wolfster38 says:

    CivilWar,
Keep watching MSNBC, they love you. and their other two viewers.

  38. Charlie says:

Guys don’t get your comments deleted and yourself banned from commenting, by getting to into politics etc. User/contributor Mike B created a forum thats endorsed by the operators of this site for us to go talk politics on. You can find it here:
    http://www.voyagertrans.com/forum1/index.php

Anyways, those numbers have to be embarassing for other networks.

  39. 1SG Hoffman says:

WOW! That 4 mil number for O’Reilly is Astonishing.

  40. Doug (2) says:

CNBC is giving over primetime to repeats and other specials fairly soon because the numbers aren’t there in primetime. Apparently, they do much better in daytime. I would assume they’re so valuable because of the income of people who watch it.

  41. Joe says:

    proposed new lineup:
    5pm-Shepard Smith
    6pm-Baer
    7pm-Beck
    8pm-O’Reilly
    9pm-Stossell
    10pm-Hannity
    11pm-Gretta

    Fox business–Imus all day long
    Hire Robin Meade!!!!

  42. Mike says:

It’s really simple – Fox News is more entertaining. Unfortunately Americans don’t like to be informed, they like to be entertained.

  43. Cody says:

Sure 20% of the country is Republican but 40% of the Country is CONSERVATIVE while only 21% of the country is liberal.

  44. Mike says:

Cody, that doesn’t make much sense. Are you saying that 20% of conservatives hate republicans so much they’re democrats?

40 prcent of the country is NOT conservative.

  45. cindy says:

    Mike,

Here are Gallup poll results showing the number of conservatives:

PRINCETON, NJ — Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This marks a shift from 2005 through 2008, when moderates were tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group.

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/120857/Conservatives-Single-Largest-Ideological-Group.aspx

  46. Jfan says:

I think the line up should be(EST)

6pm- Special Report with Bret Baier
7pm- The Fox Report w/ Shepard Smith
    8pm- The O’Reilly Factor
    9pm- Glenn Beck
    10pm- Hannity
11pm- On The Record w/ Greta Van Susteren

  47. CivilWar says:

Many Democrats consider themselves conservative. Right from the polling data that you stated, it shows that only 39% of democrats consider themselves liberal, although I bet if you asked a Democrat who considered themselves conservative to share thoughts about issues they felt strongly about – Republicans would consider them liberal.

While this type of polling does show what broad ideology people identify with, it does not in any way reflect how they are going to vote in the polls being the self identification of a person as conservative is subjective, unlike party identification (where Democrats outnumber Republicans two to one.)

TRUE….also the pay czar of Obama is cutting CEO and top execs salaries of companies that received bailout moneies…..of course, GE is NOT one of them. hmmmm, wonder why that is?! :)

It’s really simple – Fox News is more entertaining. Unfortunately Americans don’t like to be informed, they like to be entertained.

OR….americans like to be entertained while being informed. Whereas on the other cable news stations they arent getting either. Boring, unattractive, left wing nuts who are just spreading socialist, liberal agendas. Im actually STUNNED that they get the amount of viewers listed. Didnt think that many people were drinking the “kool aid”.

  50. Bee says:

The reason people watch Fox, is because they get facts, not sarcastic opinions and nasty comments. Beck= facts, Hannity has passion, but he is right. Oreilly=facts, Greta=facts and great common sense questions, Bair= straight news, Shep= straight news. The others cannot compete, it’s out of their league.
A lot of people are waking up to the NO NEWS on the other channels, even regular air channel, NBS, ABC CBS,,,,hide the facts. By poor inlaws are so lost,,, they only get regular air channels. SO sad!

  51. wd says:

Imus said this morning that his show was kicking cnbc butt in the same time slot…

  52. guy says:

Dolbermann the clown should try broadcasting sports again.

  53. GaryD7310 says:

Did anybody see Overbite the other night telling Glenn Beck to go to hell on his show? Glenn Beck is laughing all the way to the bank, Overbite is one sorry looking guy, he needs to go, but the WH will keep him on MSPMS so he can keep kissing their butts.

  54. Jeff says:

Olbermann told Beck to go to hell. I guess he means come work for MSNBC.

  55. Rob says:

I do not understand why people say that those who watch FOX are just stupid and moronic. Stupid people do not watch 24/7 news channels, they are too busy watching dumb shows on the Big three. I would speculate that those who watch FOX, as well as other cable news channels, are smart people who want to know what is going on in this world. Please do dont denigrate those of us who choose FOX, I do not denigrate you for choosing to watch MSNBC or CNN!!!

  56. Demonjoe says:

Rob, that is absolutley right. Stupid people watch trash like MTV.

  57. mmdar says:

People in the know watch FOX. The reason: FOX does NOT berate, belittle or demean the U.S.A., the Founding Fathers, The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution or it’s citizens. MSNBC, NBC, CNN and the like, are shills for the liberals/socialists. WE THE PEOPLE believe in free speech, even if it’s absurd and moronic. FOX is always number one, and growing because it has the facts and it tells the truth. That’s why their ratings keep growing with everyoneone who tunes in for the first time. They return, and return, and return . . .

  58. Jim says:

MSNBC should be wise enough to figure out that you aren’t going to warm viewes to yourself when you insult them as they do. They think that their verbal darts are only aimed at O’Reilly, Hannity, Beck, etc., but when they demean those who watch FOX, they aren’t likely to attract them.

  59. OkPatriotMom says:

Most comments here are focused on prime time, so my comment may not mean anything…I stopped watching the Today show many years ago and didn’t really watch a morning program for a few years(new baby, work, etc). But I’ve been watching Fox and Friends now for a couple of years and really enjoy the show. Today especially, the crew was on board the USS New York. No other network covered the USS New York the way these guys did and I thank them for that. We should never forget.

  60. Rosie says:

okpatriotmom: I saw this show too. It was absolutely wonderful.

I love Fox and friends. I have satellite radio in my car (three month trial) and I get Fox news in my car!!

  61. CivilWar says:

Wow, just a cavalcade of idiocy here.

Guys, get it straight. You watch Fox “news” because it tells you what you want to hear. It is not news, as much as you want it to be…

Even Fox “news” does not consider Fox and Friends, news. They actually sent out a press release saying what hours of the day were “news” and it was only 1/3 of their lineup.

Of course, even those “news” hours are pilfered by right wing talking points. To actually believe that what is offered as programming on Fox is intelligent and factual, is ridiculous. It is downmarket entertainment aimed at old men.

p.s. For those of you that feel belittled watching other news programs, get a GED or something for God’s sake. Maybe even read a newspaper. Is it the other networks fault that you personally need a 6th grade level readership of events to feel included? Holy frack, I feel like I am trapped in moronville around here…

  62. Mike says:

    CivilWar

If you don’t like FNC Don’t Watch If you don’t like this board, Go Away! If you really watch FNC you are just adding to the great numbers. BTW I thought this board was for discussing television ratings.
