Season To Date Ratings
As good as Fox’s luck was with the baseball ALCS games, their luck with the World Series might turn out much better. If the Phillies can win Wednesday, and force a game 7, Fox might hold onto the adults 18-49 and 18-34 leads for the rest of the season (it’s a given they’ll take them when American Idol appears, regardless). A huge week of baseball and football (through November 1, 2009) stretched Fox’s lead in adults 18-49 and 18-34, and closed a bit of the gap with CBS in adults 25-54. CBS is well ahead average viewership and I don’t think even a seven game World Series can close that gap in a week.
You can see past week’s broadcast network primetime season to date average TV ratings results here.

Ratings Increase / Decrease: 2009-10 Season vs. 2008-9 Season
Fox’s improvement vs. last fall in all the main adult demo groups continues to grow. Only the CW is ahead in any demo group, but they should be well ahead of last season across the board considering their automatic boost to their seasonal ratings averages just by dumping Sunday nights. Compared to last season, the CW’s current situation has got to be a disappointment.
And while the entertainment press continues harping on NBC’s ratings drop from last season (with good reason!), there’s still nary a whisper about ABC’s declines which continue just behind NBC’s. CBS is now down in all the main adult demo groups vs. last season, but not nearly as much as ABC and NBC.

Each rating point is a percentage of the US TV population in that demographic group and equals: 2.90 million viewers, 1.32 million adults 18-49, 0.68 million adults 18-34 and 1.24 million adults 25-54.
Sadly, we will no longer be having a Tiny Network Showdown! since MyNetworkTV ratings averages are no longer being reported by Nielsen, since they are no longer classed as a network but are now a “programming service”. And we are no longer seeing Univision season to date averages for last season, so I cannot do a comparison.
Note that the chart includes RATINGS not VIEWERSHIP as was typical in our weekly network ratings posts prior to July, 2009.

Who all thinks that FOX needs a Daytime.
Is there at least a whisper about FOX’s increases?
Wow, good luck in your holy war bObama… And American Idol isn’t back yet, Fox must be sharply happy with his current line-up… Of course no one is talking about Fox success… The big three is still Nbc Abc Cbs…
ABC and CBS deserve a little more credit they haven’t had any important sports events, at least as much as important like wordl series on FOX or the NBC’s football
I forgot to say that I think maybe a 40% of FOX’s programming this season beginnig has been just baseball
Cody, all of FOX’s attempts at daytime have failed.
Samuel, I don’t know how to decipher your message.
Kenny, the chart has looked similar the entire six weeks for the big 4.
Ok, lets be clear about something. Fox has had baseball for years, so the current success has very little to do with sports. They have had the NFL for years. Yes sports is up. But you have to give credit where credit is due. Fox is working hard to put better shows on and it is paying off. With the exception of Dollhouse/Fridays, Fox is just working hard to be more creative. A few years ago, they were all about over the top reality. Now they are turning that around.
J.R, you see my friend, not everyone is from America, not everyone is talking English, there is a lot of ethnicity in the world, in case you didn’t notice.
Fox is up on pretty much every night this year. Sports may play a role, but their new line-up is still helping a lot.
Samuel, how could I notice ethnicity in an anonymous comment?
Since you’re already talking down to me, go ahead and explain what “Wow, good luck in your holy war bObama… ” means and how it relates to the topic.
I actually been thinking about how FOX can have a sucessful Daytime.
9:00-11:00 AM Simulcast of America’s Newsroom on the Fox News Channel. This show is already produced and made and it would only compete with the last two hours of the Today Show.
11:00AM 5 Primetime Budget Dramas (these can be shows that have struggled on the traditional primetime since it would have little competition with only The View and the Price is Right as Competition) To cover all costs they can be shown 4 days a week in Primetime on My Network TV and on Fox on Friday becuase of the traditional lack of quality on FOX Friday. Giving Dual Revunue sources to these shows and telling NBC shove it the old business model does work.
11:00PM The best of the Fox News Channel. (The Day’s episode of Beck, Hannity, O’reilly etc….)
They would get either cable dollars or a second advertising profit to cover all costs and FOX can get in the game not only in Primetime but daytime as well. What do you guys think.
I totally agree, Samuel. Great points.
God damn, this paint thinner tastes great.
Here are my ideas for a FOX Daytime schedule targeting men 18-34:
9:00-10:00 AM – My Name Is Earl reruns
10:00-11:00 AM – America’s Funniest Home Videos reruns (syndicated by Disney-ABC Domestic Television)
11:00 AM-12:00 PM – Hole in the Wall (1 new, 1 repeat)
12:00-12:30 PM – Local news
12:30-1:00 PM – FOX Sports programming
1:00-2:00 PM – Talkshow with Spike Feresten
2:00-3:00 PM – Jerry Springer (syndicated by NBCU)
3:00-4:00 PM – Family Guy reruns
