Not that I need an excuse to write about my new favorite show, but with all the 472 posts today on V (and I’m not knocking it, I posted 468 of them) people are probably starting to think we are VbytheNumbers rather than TVbytheNumbers.
I did like the V pilot, but I still like Sons of Anarchy more. Much more. I’m a science fiction loving guy too. Good science fiction and even bad science fiction I generally embrace it all.
But hands down SOA is the best drama on TV right now for my viewing pleasure. SOA made big news a couple of weeks back, and sadly it wasn’t for being the best freaking show on television, but rather for beating The Jay Leno Show and The Forgotten. Last week it slipped back behind its 10pm broadcast competition, but was still the #1 scripted drama on cable for the week (so long as you exclude Monday Night Raw, and I know some of you believe that is a scripted drama!)
Last night with a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating (same as last week) and 3.5 million viewers (up a touch from last week) SOA again came in behind The Jay Leno Show (2.0 A18-49) and The Forgotten (1.9). But it will again be the #1 scripted drama on cable barring some big surprise. And it also is still doing better with adults 18-49 than Kate Gosselin.
Due to crazy and brutal B.S. Hollywood negotiating and posturing tactics, amazingly FX hasn’t announced a season three pick up of its NUMBER ONE SHOW yet. I don’t think FX really has any leverage here, but I understand the human nature of wanting to feel like you’re in control, even when you’re not. So I won’t be too hard on FX for being numskulls.
The renewal (good) news will come, and in the meanwhile we still have four more episodes in season two to go. As an extra bonus, two out of the next four episodes will be 90 minute airings, including next week’s.
Here are some other Tuesday cable numbers via our friend “Travis Yanan“:
Monica: Still Standing
- 1.141 million viewers
- 0.8/1 HH
- 0.6/2 A18-49
Kathy Griffin: Balls of Steel

- 0.5/1 A18-49
Sons of Anarchy (62 minutes)
- 3.516 million viewers
- 2.2/4 HH
- 1.8/5 A18-49
Sherri (10pm)
- 0.849 million viewers
- 0.5/1 HH
- 0.3/1 A18-49
The Hills
- 1.985 million viewers
- 1.4/2 HH
- 1.2/3 A18-49
- 2.8/8 W18-34
The City
- 1.513 million viewers
- 1.1/2 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49
- 2.2/7 W18-34

Last night’s episode was great.
this show sucks! WHITE COLLAR = THE BEST
Brent, I like White Collar, it’s a nice, fun, happy show. But saying WHITE COLLAR is BETTER than SOA… that’s like saying CHUCK is better than The Sopranos.
Agreed, Robert.
SOA is hands down the most intriguing, hooking drama on all of TV right now! Amazing, colorful, compelling characters and a deeply intelligent storyline make for gripping TV viewing! There’s no other show on TV right now that truly pulls you in its world like Sons of Anarchy!
I’ve been a Lost fan since the first season and it’s been my #1 show forever, but SOA is offering serious competition! This is definitely a can’t-miss and I couldn’t be ANY happier for it’s incredible success in the ratings!!
Yes! Glad to see the numbers up a hair! Next week’s 90 minute “very special episode” will be epic!
I think I have been in a bad Science Fiction Dream. I didn’t even know they remade V. And I liked V when I was a kid decades ago! As so Sons of Anarchy, I just simply cannot get enough. Right now there is like 3 -4 good message boards for the show, but I need a daily fix. Thank goodness for Facebook. Lots of great fans, some cast, feeding our need to live, eat, breathe, SAMCRO.
Sons of Anarchy is doing great considering it airs in season with Broadcast competition, it would do 4-5m if it aired in the summer. Funny FX don’t have any summer shows but spread their shows across the year.
Sherri is low but I believe it is up from last week when it was on at 10.30pm, seems Lifetime aren’t able to produce a comedy hit whereas they have two successful dramas.
@Jon – Sherri was on at 10pm last week (in fact, it was on 9pm thru 11pm. The original was surrounded by repeats). And it’s actually down from last week’s 10pm episode, which got 0.914 mil.
If there’s a better show on tv other than Sons of Anarchy, you’ll have to let me know. Excellent writing, ensemble cast, plotlines that alternately make you want to cheer or tear out your hair (if you’re a gal). Fantastic t.v. show ! I’m a relative newcomer, started watching this 2nd season, then had to go buy the 1st on dvd. Hope there’s many more seasons to come.
TVBill, thanks for correcting me, I got it mixed up with Rita Rocks which I think got low ratings of 0.4-0.5m IIRC.
This isn’t much of a surprise. I too wonder what the execs are thinking, not announcing the 3rd season yet, but I’m not too worried about it. They’d be absolutely insane not to renew this one.
Anybody who says this show sucks needs to be slapped in the fuckin’ face.
I wonder if Rita Rocks did better with Reba as a lead in despite it being a repeat. Rita Rocks hasn’t fallen off in quality so lower ratings this season (I think) could be a not so great match in its hour.
SOA has zero appeal for me. Can’t speak to it at all. But I liked that post from the creator/writer last week. Liked it a lot. If he did another show with a premise that I liked more, I would totally try it out. He sounds like a great writer. Either way, I’m happy FX has a hit that pushes the envelope a bit. It will encourage FX to continue to get the more daring dramas like they have been.
CHUCK is better than The Sopranos. There, I said it.
Great ratings for both The Hills & The City, the best night for MTV of all week
I think Sons is one of the better television shows on at this time. Sutter has really knocked it out of the park this season. Tuesday night’s episode was emotional, tense and left me wanting more. The whole cast is doing an extraordinary job in their respective roles. I do hope that we get some kind of news as to a S3 pick-up. The only other show that has me completely enthralled right now is Mad Men.
Hands down, SOA is the best on TV right now – cable or network. Kurt Sutter has outdone himself this season. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen from week to week.
How can we make the multitudes of people aware of this great show?? It’s insane that EVERYONE is not aware!!
is that low for kathy on bravo??
SOA is by far the best drama on television. From the storyline to the actors, it’s all A+. I’m looking forward to the 90 minute shows. I hope that they are planning on renewing it.
SOA may be the best…but thats just til Breaking Bad comes back.
i have never caught a show from its very beginning and have been able to follow it throughout. thnx to dvr!! but the S.O.A is truly a cant miss. I am truly hooked. The NBA is back in full swing so either way a game or the S.O.A will be dvr and watched. I cant wait for the 90 min explosion next week!! THE S.O.A is great tv!!
