Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for game one of the World Series on FOX are approximate. FOX ordered time zone adjusted version of the Fast National Ratings though, so these won’t change as much as normal in the final national numbers. See definitions below for more explanation on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

Last night’s game six of the World Series where the Yankees went on to capture their 27th world championship was seen by an average of 22.3 million viewers and had a 7.4 rating with adults 18-49. Without a game 7, FOX couldn’t push the average for the entire series over 20 million, but it got darn close. The series averaged a 6.2 rating with adults 18-49 and 19.4 million viewers and was the highest-rated, most-viewed series in five years. It was up by more than 40 percent from last year’s record lows.
Outside of the game, ABC’s Modern Family had the best 18-49 ratings for the night with a 3.4/9 (rating/share) that was down a bit from last week’s 3.7 preliminary 18-49 rating. Cougar Town hit a series low with a 2.7/7 with adults 18-49. Eastwick tied a series low with a 1.6/4 rating.
CBS set some season and series lows too. Criminal Mind’s 3.2/8 was a low for the season, while CSI: NY’s 2.7/7 was its lowest-rated original telecast ever.
CW’s Top Model reached season highs in women 18-34 (2.9/8) , adults 18-34 (1.9/6), women 18-49 (2.6/7), adults 18-49 (1.7/5) and total viewers (3.96mil). Top Model tied NBC’s Mercy and ABC’s comedies at 8pm in adults 18-49.
In Late-Night Local People Meters Wednesday night:
- On a night impacted by overrun coverage of the deciding game of the World Series, Conan O’Brien (0.7/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/3) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.
- At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/3).

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

I like ABC’s Comedy Wednsday.
But about tuesday in December.
Thats pretty sad.
that is less than 10 percent of the States.
Heck that is closer to 5 percent of the Pop.
Robert/Bill: How do you know that’s the Scoreboard Line-up?
It’s not Halloween and Eastwicks’s ratings are still scary.
Well, Chris, that would require a lot more of the country to give a rat’s *** about either the Yankees or the Phillies. Not to mention, the combination of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver is something of a turn-off. They need new blood in the broadcast booth for their baseball games. CBS wasn’t afraid to get rid of Billy Packer from basketball, and nobody cried about it.
i hope eastwich sticks around. love that show.
I bet the ratings for every show was low because alot of people tuned in to the World Series.
Well, considering it was baseball, I think CM did better than CSI: NY. But with a 3.2/8 it’s not the end of the world. It will go up next week now that the Yankees won.
Chris, remember, those are average viewer numbers for the entire telecast (which was well over 3 hours). The # of people who checked out any portion of the game was MUCH higher. While the averages are absolutely the best overall ongoing comparisons, it is silly to use them for generalized statements about overall reach.
5506: I don’t, that’s just what it was last week and until I’ve seen the #s I don’t bother changing them
Michael J, indeed.
OMG
CM and CSI NY ratings took a rather big hit against baseball
and BTW is this like the first time that Christine beat Gary in the demo?
I don’t care about baseball, and I assume most of America agrees. It is the most boring sport on TV.
The ratings are low due to the baseball but I wouldn’t worry about either Criminal Minds or CSI: NY which are usually strong performer and with baseball over, they’ll increase and NY is likely to see a spike in ratings due to the CSI crossover week.
Ryan, perhaps, but in terms of its championship’s TV viewing, baseball trails only football (by a million miles, but still).
Gabe, I think it is the first time Christine has bested Gary this season. Perhaps an end of Daylight Saving Time related phenomenon.
I agree with Ryan – baseball is only fun if you’re drinking beers at the ballpark and even then only for about 5 inings.
how many viewers for eastwick? can’t see it XD
Baseball is the most exiting and interesting sport on TV….
You know that!
You betcha!
viewer numbers now added above in the table
sports in tv are so boring… really prefer watch a match live!
Ouch for Cougar Town. And Eastwick is done. Unless it’s *really* cheap to make, no way it’ll stick around with those ratings. Too bad, cos I’m actually gonna miss it. Who knows when (if ever) there will be another show with witches.
I’m not sure these results tell us anything, other than maybe some vague hints as to male/female breakdowns on these shows (which actual Nielsen numbers would give you directly).
Christine beating Gary being a case in point. Though it is possible there was a time zone in which the game was on vs. Gary and not Christine.
According to a local sports talk radio station the 1975 World Series
between Boston and Cincinnati drew 76 million viewers. No mention
was made of demos.
wow new series high for antm!!!almost 4 mil viewers and it beat eastwick!!!
Thanks God baseball is gone now, we’ll see what’s going to happen with FOX’s series after like 2 years off
oops!!i meant season high!!sorry!!
Interesting- SVU tied Heroes.
Ouch- when will ABC get rid of Eastwick?
Wow, the regular season Vikings-Packers game had nearly 40% more viewers, coming in at 30 million! Baseball on tv sucks, and should change its name to Bazzzeball, with an emphasis on the zzz, as it puts everyone to sleep. Even with the Yankees and Phillies, still no one cares! Give me the NFL, NBA, UFC (or any MMA), College hoops and football, and you can keep your baseball – boring!
Modern Family held fairly well, but Cougar Town was down a lot. I wonder if those are the kinds of numbers to expect once American Idol starts. Also the Middle while no where near a hit, is very consistent at the 2.0 mark, despite having its weakest lead-in yet. Is Hank airing for the rest of November sweeps or does ABC have specials they are going to air?
I hope Mercy’s numbers rebound next week or NBC might have to cut its order, like Knight Rider.
Wow, Cougar Town took a hit. Was it because of the baseball game? Or is that an indication of the show fizzling out in the weeks to come? That pre-emption next week won’t help. Just 6 weeks ago it premiered to 4.4. What will happen to it once American Idol rears its ugly head again? I guess it’s already at the same level as “Private Practice” one year ago. And “Eastwick” is doing worse than “Dirty Sexy Money.” And we all know the fate of that show.
I see Eastwick did beat out Leno again in the 18-49. Perhaps ABC will use this again in thier next press release.
Gerry, assuming its correct, that 76 million was likely the total reach for the Series. That is, the number of people who watched any portion of any game.
The average viewership was 34.7 million for the 76 World Series.
Looks like everything took a hit from the last game of the World Series, not surprising at all.
I’m sad to see a series low for CSINY, but I knew if CM got a low 3 in the demos CSINY would be in the high 2s.
As the numbers of viewers for regular unimaginative overall programming have declined, numbers from the big four sports leagues have been way up. Real drama is beating out poorly scripted drama (and poorly scripted news writing) in this depressed economy.
Ready to get up and head to your window yet?
The World Series did really well for FOX although I wonder if any network, broadcast or cable would make a bid of it. I imagine it’s probably too expensive to acquire and the ratings of this year may not translate next year.
Wow at 2.5 for SVU.
Why won’t ABC put Kelsey Grammar out of his misery and just cancel Hank? Not only are the numbers horrible but the show itself is an embarrassment. Maybe Hank could have a cross-over to NBC and they can do a Mercy killing?
Bobby,
Last night the aired Hank’s Thanksgiving special so I’m guessing (and it’s just a guess) that they are going to put Hank out to pasture real soon the accountants be damned.
Yowza! It seems like, even without the World Series, that TV was down tonight. It’s gotta be tough working in network TV right now…
Michael J — that’s good news. It is such an awful show. You have to figure KG lost a lot of money in the stock market if he agreed to do it.
I’m not a fan of Patricia Heaton but The Middle is at least a smart show with some laughs and interesting characters. Of course the reason it shoots up so much from Hank has probably more to do with pre-tune in for Modern Family rather than the show itself.
Modern Family is a winner. People obviously like it. But Cougar Town is on a downward spiral. Don’t forget that this is from the man who brought you Scrubs which was never ever a big hit for NBC or ABC.
I predict that once Idol starts up, Modern Family will be around 2.8 and Cougar Town will be down to around 2.2.
A clincher can’t even get past 25 or 30 million viewers. The only way FOX or MLB sees those ratings ever again is if during the next CAB they start thinking about putting a salary cap in place so that all 30 teams are even like in the other major sports.
I don’t get why people are surprised by SVU’s numbers. It’s on pair with last week (2.6).
Right38, sadly for the small market fans (I assume you are one of them), having the Yankees (or Red Sox, or Cubs, or Dodgers and so on down in diminishing returns) in the World Series are the best thing that could happen to the TV ratings. Having small market teams in the series would be ratings poison.
I think Cougar Town is in trouble because the more-thoughtful-than-I’d-expected show hasn’t actually been funny in weeks. I don’t think I’m going to watch anymore.
Good intentions only go so far.
Modern Family held up well, it will be back up to 9+ million and 3.5+ demos next week. This is not just a good show but a great one. Hands down the best comedy on tv. I will be shocked if the emmys snub this show.
I’ve been catching the last 10 minutes of The Middle for the past few weeks now, and last night finally put it on my DVR. It is a cute, clever and funny show. I think ABC should stick with it to let it build an audience…perhaps a few airings after MF might help it out?
Football, the most boring sport on earth, sucks!
Tampa Bay, the smallest of the small and biggest underdog imaginable, won the American League pennant in 2008. Philadelphia represented the National League. The World Series ratings were poor, to be polite. Plenty of rain in Philadelphia surely didn’t help but having the Rays there (the St. Louis Browns of their day) was a casual-fan repellent.
@Bill Thanks for the amplification.
I watched the first few episodes of CT, but it got progressively less and less funny. MF continues to be great, though.
Good numbers for ANTM. Ironically, just as that interview was released predicting the demise of the CW, it goes on the upswing. Ratings across the board have been strong in the past week, with the exception of Tuesday. If the CW can get something working on Tuesday and figure out a post-ANTM game plan, it’ll have a pretty solid line-up.
Move ‘The Middle’ after ‘Modern Family’. The Middle is a better fit with ‘Modern Family’ than ‘Cougartown’ is. Cougartown is okay but I’m guessing it will fizzle out like ‘Samantha Who?’ eventually did.
Cancel ‘Hank’—that show is just a derivative of every family in the 90s. Its is just as original as ‘Til Death’ is. I wonder how long before they do an episode where Hank buys a sport car to deal with with his midlife crisis.
CORREECTION to previous post:
Cancel ‘Hank’—that show is just a derivative of every show family in the 90s
Kind of surprised at Cougar Town. I expected it to keep above a 3 behind Modern Family. I think with the current trend, it could be canned by end of the season.
That’s pretty close to averaging 20 million for the series. If it wasn’t for the rain delay in the Saturday game I’m sure it would’ve topped 20 million. Then again, it was Halloween. I know we had the game on at our party, but probably not everybody did.
The only way the World Series could possibly hit that 25-30 million mark is if the Cubs/Yankees took the series to a game 6 or 7. I don’t see the Cubs making it any time soon though :p
the next episode of hank should be lillith waking frasier up and telling him that hank was a horrible nasty dream…
I wouldn’t draw too many conclusions using the ratings from last night vs. a WS game 6. In particular, Cougar Town seems to have settled into a 3.2 demo rating average (its previous 4 weeks were 3.2, 3.3, 3.1, 3.2).
If it goes to a 2.6 next week, you can sound the alarms
Yankees in the WS, will always translate into good ratings.
There is no other show on television that benefits more from having a sporting event on than “America’s Next Top Model”
Almost everytime I have seen it go up against a sporting event it’s viewership goes way up.
Won’t ABC Comedies be preempted next week for Country Music Awards?
Diane, yes they will. I should have written the “next time”.
Wednesdays are a waste. Nothing on worth watching.
As for the Yankees, I only wanted them to win because I hated Philadelphia even more. Baseball in November is unnatural – its simply wrong.
Modern Family is doing pretty well comparing to the baseball game.
Holy cow, Mercy and Eastwick got pummelled. Y’ouch.
Could both be pulled by midseason?
Just trying to imagine that many people!
Nope, I give up/
Can’t believe Christine/Gary are strong enough (relatively) to be 2nd in the hour. Pathetic.
How long before Wednesdays (without Idol) are the new Fridays?
I’m really surprised to see how well Old Christine and Gary stood up to the World Series – second in total viewers and 18-49 demo is pretty good when airing next to baseball… however I assume that I’m among the minority who will try and make this into optimism for Old Christine.
Oh well, someone’s gotta do it!
I’m hoping next week Cougar Town goes soaring back up into the 3s in the demo…
ABC loves their new 9 o’clock comedy block!
You mean 8pm – 10pm not just 9pm(full hour)
THANK YOU YANKEES!!!
How did you make that face?
ABC should replace Hank and the Middle with Ugly Betty there. It would be a good addition to the line of comedy they have there.
I also need that faces website.
Been tryng to find that website for weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yankees Baseball …Rules !- love it – love that it got HUGE ratings!!! 22 million loved it…great Series… good times…
Counting down to “24″
Patrick Murphy, Fox should have hired Vin Scully and the ratings would have gone through the roof. Vin Scully is one of the most famous sports announcers ever. He is also the best announcer who has ever lived in many people’s eyes!
Hmmm CSI NY vs NY Yankees…maybe CBS should have done CSI NY LIVE…that way the can solve the case WHILE listening to the game on radio…Hmmm – they could have had a ratings winner – watch the CSI’s solve a crime outside of Yankee stadium…
Poor ABC. Those numbers are lousy. I’m sure they are wishing they put Ugly Betty on Wednesdays instead of Fridays where it is on life support. DUMB DUMB DUMB!
Found it.
http://support.wordpress.com/smilies/
Cougar Town fell! I hope it goes back up to the 3s in the demo next week, I really love that show!
I wish more people watched Eastwick, its way better now than its first couple of episodes.
That was the funniest episode of Modern Family last night!
Eastwick fell in the demo to a 1.5 in finals- Jay almost tied it. How much longer before ABC decides to yank it from the air?
Bye, “Hank.” It was nice knowing you. “Eastwick” is still scheduled to air the last night of sweeps… although that’s probably just because ABC hasn’t slapped together another special to replace it yet.
And to the pre-tune-in comment, some people actually (*gasp* *shock*) enjoy “The Middle” and look forward to it more than “Modern Family.”
“Cougar Town” needs a network intervention. A face lift, if you will. (No Christa Miller jokes, please.) I like the cast and I think they have some spark between them, but the juvenile writing, frenetic directing and the music — oh, gawd, that irritating music drowning out every single scene — makes it painful to watch. I think based on what they have, it could easily be retooled into a good show… but due to the egos involved, I doubt anyone will ever admit that there’s anything wrong with it.
5506/Orange5506 says:I bet the ratings for every show was low because alot of people tuned in to the World Series.
How bout “the ratings for every show was low because alot of people think that this is shit for TV viewing”!

Wednesdays are a waste. Nothing on worth watching.
As for the Yankees, I only wanted them to win because I hated Philadelphia even more. Baseball in November is unnatural – its simply wrong.
A man that knows what he is talking about.
Wow. How low do Jay’s ratings have to fall before he’s canceled?
The New York Yankees is the world’s most famous team in sports….
Cougar Town should return to 3s next week, game was an ultimate decider. Just btw who won?
22.3 million is great for any tv program aside from Football or American Idol, nowadays.
Parenthood: Not that it was ever an issue, but Vin doesn’t travel East anymore. He only does home games, and road games vs. LAA and the NL West.
With game 6 last night, it’s a wierd time on tv to either praise or doom a show on network televison. However, I must say I’m pleased that Modern Family held up so well.
On the other end, I have to say that, as much as I enjoy Cougar Town, those numbers have to be a bit alarming. If it can go above a 3.0 in the next airing, it should be okay. But the sad fact is I don’t think it will. The problem is that it’s just not a compatable show with Modern Family. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if ABC decided to pair it with the umteenth installment of The Bachelor in January. That probably won’t happen, but at any rate, here is what I think ABC should do come January:
Mondays
8:00pm The Bachelor
9:30pm Cougar Town
10:00pm Another Bad Reality Show Compatable with Bachelor
Tuesdays
8:00pm V
9:00pm Lost
10:00pm Primetime or 20/20 (nothing retains Lost’s audience, so why try in the last season….but you know they will somehow!)
Wednesdays
8:00pm Ugly Betty (though I’ve never been a fan, it has an audience so for fuck’s sake, take it out of Fridays you idiots!!!!!!)
9:00pm Modern Family
9:30pm The Middle
10:00pm New Drama (Eastwick is a bomb, just admit it!!!!!)
Thursdays
Shockingly to people who have followed this network through the years, this is by far the strongest night, so leave it unchanged with FlashForwrd (surprisingly addictive), Grey’s Anatomy (best episodes since season 1) and Private Practice (ehh, but Greys watchers follow it).
Fridays
Supernanny, 20/20 and repeats of scripted shows.
Saturdays
ABC Saturday Movie
Sundays
Unchanged. By the way, shockingly in my opinion, creatively DH is off to its best start since season 1, but that’s not sayin much. I’ve loved almost every season at the beginning, but it always seems to fall apar midway through (and honestly, i’m taking every season since the first). Here’s to hoping the curse is broken and this season plays out well, but given the history it probably won’t. Have to say, though, I love Drea de Matteo in the role given to her. Please kill off Katherine so she can enter the poker party, like now!!!!!!!
As for CBS, please do this:
Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays
Keep As Is!!!!! Ratings are good, if not spectacular! No need to change, at least not yet.
Thursdays
Just switch CSI and The Mentalist. Please, CBS, don’t be NBC and cling on to the CSI franchise like NBC did with L&O and ER!!!! Let it go with dignity, please. 10 seasons is a hell of a run!!!!
Fridays
Being that ratings have taken a dive, keep the schedule unchanged then go with reality garbage next season.
Saturdays
CSI Franchise Repeats
Sundays
After 60 Minutes and Amazing Race, make some bold moves and throw a pair of new dramas here. No, not CSI: London please!
As for Fox come January:
Mondays
8:00pm House
9:00pm 24
Tuesdays
8:00pm Idol, of course
9:00pm New Drama (don’t know what’s on their slate, but who cares, it’s guaranteed 12 million viewers and a 3.5 demo)
Wednesdays
8:00pm Idol results. Don’t be stupid, put it on at 8 to give Glee a lead in.
9:00pm Glee (not a huge fan of the show, but it has a strong following so Fox would be dumb to not give it an idol lead in)
Thursdays
Hold strong with Bones and Fringe. They are down, but compared to previous thursdays, they are way up. Let them grow because they are good enough to survive.
Fridays
Who even cares? Just throw in the towel with reality crap and stop wasting money!
Saturdays
Unchanged. After 20 years of maintaining 2nd or 1st place, why even bother trying.
Sundays
Unchanged. Demo strength of Animation Domination is just that!!!!
As for NBC:
I just want to tell them to go out of business, but I’ll try:
Mondays:
8pm Heroes
9pm Chuck
Tuesdays:
8pm Fat Fighters
Wednesdays:
8pm Mercy
9pm Law & Order: SVU
Thursdays
Unchanged with comedys few people watch.
Fridays
Finish off L&O with a couple crappy reality shows
Saturdays
L&O Repeats of a Movie
Sundays
Dateline and Apprentice
Shit, NBC is really that bad, isn’t it?
Anyhow, hope you all enjoy my opinion. Feel free to rebut what you think should be done!!!!!
Ugly Betty needs to move in Wednesday
Manny R: The New York Yankees is the world’s most famous team in sports….
Man Utd and Barcelona FC and much more famous than the NYY. I think you mean the NYY are the most famous team in the US.
The New York Yankees is the world’s most RICH and Famous Team in sports….
What is Utd and Barcelona FC?
Who knows Utd and Barcelona FC?
I do not….
Baseball in November is unnatural – its simply wrong.
The only thing natural about baseball is the grass.
