  1. Matt says:

    mentalist beating CSI. finally!

  2. Marcos says:

Ouch. I’m really going to miss Fringe next season.

  3. Roland says:

Is that one of community’s best performances at the 9pm slot? If they keep growing steadily like that they should be able to pick up a renewal. P&R I don’t think it has a chance for pickup. I know Allison Silverman (formerly of Colbert Report, Late Nigh w/Conan, and Daily Show) has a blind script deal with Lourne Michaels. Perhaps whatever she comes up is slated to take over for P&R.

  4. Roland says:

    *correction: 8pm slot.

  5. it was Community’s best performance since moving to 8pm.

  6. Dennis says:

It looks like The Office and 30 Rock skew incredibly young. The percentage of the demo viewers compared to the total viewers is even bigger that with the Fox cartoons. But the toons will probably have many teenage fans. But still, very impressive.

  7. greg says:

does anyone have half hour or quarter hour results for any of the CBS shows?

  8. Alison says:

Yay for The Mentalist – read it and weep CSI and Private Practice!!

  9. Sammy01 says:

go bones, now beat FF in the demos next week

  10. the128boy says:

Congrats to The Office for (again) being the least down year-over-year among the Three 9pm Titans:

    5.1 (-15.0%) Grey’s Anatomy
    4.1 (-4.7%) The Office
    3.5 (-31.4%) CSI

Also, save for the first 3 episodes of the show, last night was a high (in addition to outright season-high) for Parks And Recreation.

Also of note is a stabilizing trend with 30 Rock, when looking at episode numbers this year vs last:

    Episode 1 of season: 4.1 vs 3.0 (-26.8%)
    Episode 2 of season: 3.9 vs 3.3 (-15.4%)
    Episode 3 of season: 3.6 vs 3.1 (-13.9%)
    Episode 4 of season: 3.4 vs 3.0 (-11.8%)

While a slide of over 11 percent is certainly not great, it beats a drop of 26.8 any day.

To those that think Community would do better than 30 Rock post-Office… I’m not so sure. Community hit sub-3s both weeks after its much-inflated premiere. 30 Rock has yet to drop below the 3.0 threshold.

  11. johnthemon says:

So glad Community and Parks & Rec didn’t drop, good for Office staying over a 4.

  12. j says:

VD still beats Fringe, and in its target demo vs. others’ beats FF, 4/5 NBC shows, and Bones.
    So Grey’s still behind V?
CSI bottom of the admittedly close heap on CBS.
    30 Rock 3!

  13. Mackey says:

Frightening numbers for Fringe. FlashForward is down to Heroes season 4 numbers. I don’t think they can survive this season if they don’t get a boost from a big lead in. Better sooner than later.
Fringe behind AI should be a no-brainer. FF behind Lost.

Let’s hope for ABC that V doesn’t drop like FF and proves itself strong enough for self starting.

  14. Julia says:

Everyone recalls that The Mentalist beat CSI last week, too, right?

Good to see 30 Rock remains 3.0+. Hopefully it sticks with that all season.

  15. Neil says:

Who would have thought at the beginning of this week that ‘V’ would end up over-taking ‘Grey’s’ as the best performing ABC series?

  16. the128boy says:

    Neil,

I would never have thought V had a chance at beating Grey’s.

However, I’m quite sure it will be a one time event.

  17. I’m confused as to how “Community” has a 5.641 in the other chart, and a 5.450 here. Is that an error?

Julia, I need your help again, haha.

  18. forg says:

Wow at the Mentalist! This is the first time it beat Private Practice right?

Glad to see 30 Rock climb to the safe zone :D

  19. Julia says:

The Other James, every morning around 9 am PST, the ratings posted here are the preliminary fast national ratings. Those are always subject to change, and it’s very rare that they stay completely the same, at least in viewers, when it comes time to post the finals.

Around 2 pm PST, Travis Yanan posts the final numbers (which are the more accurate numbers) at PIFeedback, which he links on his Twitter. Robert usually reposts them here, but not always, so if you ever miss them, check with Travis’s Twitter, which is linked at the top.

Note: Fridays’ and Sundays’ numbers don’t come in on the same timeline as Monday through Thursday. Friday’s final numbers show up on Monday afternoon, when you would normally expect Sunday’s numbers to show up. Sunday shows up on Tuesday morning. Then it gets back to the normal schedule.

If you regularly update the ratings on a few different show pages, I would suggest checking to see if this season’s ratings are linked to the fast nationals or the finals. It’s still early enough that it shouldn’t be too much work to update them, and if you need help finding the references let me know and I’ll drop you an email.

  20. That would actually be great, Julia. The shows I’d be working on would primarily be the following 6 comedies:

    Community
    30 Rock
    The Office
    Parks and Recreation
    The Middle
    Modern Family

And some pay (sans one) cable shows, such as:

    Dexter
    Mad Men
    Bored to Death
    Sons of Anarchy

I’m trying to bookmark all of the Travis posts for these shows, in order to have the pages’ ratings be more consistent with one another. Some of them are linked to the fast #s, mostly because in many instances, they are higher. (I’m assuming editors want the shows to be seen more optimistically.) But it’s a bitch to locate some of the TVbtN articles.

    My e-mail: winslutty.daylewisian.86@gmail.com

So, does this mean that even though “Community”’s numbers are 0.2 lower than the fast numbers indicate, it still bodes well and is a sign of growth? Just wondering how the fast numbers can interpret it to be a higher number of people.

  21. Julia says:

James, Community grew from last week where it counts: The A18-49 demo. Dropping a couple hundred thousand in viewers from fast nationals to finals doesn’t mean a whole lot. Now, if Community had dropped from 2.3 in the demo to 2.0, that would mean that it fell from last week, which is not a good thing, but it would be inconsequential that it dropped from the prelim numbers.

The final numbers are just more exact. It takes into account that some shows air slightly longer or slightly shorter than others, that some markets may not have aired the show or aired it at a different time, and with live events like sports, it time zone adjusts.

I’ll email you links to all the TVBTN posts that have final numbers for those. Travis also posts cable numbers, by the way.

  22. AZTop says:

CBS has got to love Survivor’s performance this season. Season 19 and it wins it’s timeslot in both viewers and the demo.

Too bad about Fringe, I switched from the tired CSI to a show that always interests me. I hope FOX will hang in there awhile longer. I’d like to see it on Mondays following House.

  23. vsaint says:

At the end of last season, Grey’s was #2 ABC show, CSI #1 CBS, Office #1 NBC.
Not very bright placing a sophomore show there against established shows, with established routines.

  24. Julia3 says:

WOW! Vampire Diaries is getting like 4 million viewers? That’s like CW’s biggest hit ever!

  25. Mumbo says:

Fringe did lower than Vampire Diaries and just barely edged out the Jay Leno Show.

All the baseball games in the world can’t excuse that performance.

  26. Lil says:

SUCKed in FF Bones all the way!
Even with the hiatus and such, it still ties in the demo wooo now let’s beat them!

Too bad for Fringe though :(

  27. aznfratboy says:

@ Julia… wtf are you on? It’s CWs biggest hit today yes, no way is it CWs biggest hit. but Smallville was averaging up around 6m in its first seasons, back when the story WASN’T repetitive as hell, Supernatural was getting 5mil in its first season, not sure about anything else though.

  28. j says:

At least according to Wiki, Supernatural’s seasons on CW have gotten 3.14, 2.74, 3.14. Smallville 4.10, 3.77, 3.74.

Unless you know for a fact that you yourself are a couple million people I suppose and that alone bumps up the #’s to the ones you claim.

  29. forg says:

I think what Julia3 meant is that Vampire Diaries is CW’s biggest show of their own, I mean that they started and not a show they acquired from WB and UPN

  30. Julia says:

Plus, Smallville was never averaging 6 mil on CW. No show has. Yes, in their first season they had a few shows that were doing 4-5 mil, but nothing near 6.

  31. johnthemon says:

if you include the WB, the CW’s biggest numbers were from Seventh Heaven, which once grabbed 12.4 million viewers.

  32. tony says:

wow the vampire diaries is doing really well for the CW. It must be one of there highest rated shows now.

  33. Raymond says:

While I don’t have numbers for Smallville’s first season on CW (season 6 I believe) I know in season 7 they did get above 5 million. So while never averaging 6million I’d say in season 6 there were eps that either got close to six million or hit it. None-the-less in four years the media market has fragmented more so I think VD’s numbers are at least as impressive as Smallville’s then if not more. Especially given that they are beating or very close to FOX and NBC’s numbers for various shows that night.

  34. Raymond says:

    Oh link as well…http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/339108451/m/59610777

  35. mayorofsmpleton says:

What they mean is CW’s shows. Smallville was a WB show and it averaged those high numbers while on the WB. Since the birth of CW the highest rated scripted shows were Gilmore Girls (pulling like 4-4.5 million in their 7th Season, and 7th Heaven pulling about 3.5-4 during it’s 10th or 11th.

VD is doing better than any show that BEGAN on the CW network thus far.
