The CW’s Thursday Continues to Build Year-to-Year
November 6, 2009 (Burbank, CA) – The CW’s freshman smash THE VAMPIRE DIARIES won the 8:00-9:00p.m. time period among women 18-34 (3.1/9), females 12-34 (2.8/9) and female teens (2.1/8), according to preliminary live plus same day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. VAMPIRE DIARIES ranked second in adults 18-34 (2.3/7) and persons 12-34 (2.1/7), just 0.1 behind #1 CBS in both demos.
VAMPIRE DIARIES delivered its second highest rated telecast ever in adults 18-34 (2.3/7) and women 18-34 (3.1/9-tie), just a tenth below last week’s series highs. Last night’s VAMPIRE DIARIES also scored the show’s second largest audience (4.2mil) and second best adults 18-49 (2.0/5-tie), behind only the VAMPIRE series premiere.
Compared to the same night last year (an original “Smallville”), VAMPIRE DIARIES improved time period by 94% in women 18-34, 21% in adults 18-34, 63% in women 18-49, 5% in adults 18-49 and 91% in female teens.
SUPERNATURAL matched its season high in adults 18-34 (1.5/4)
Versus the same night a year ago, The CW’s Thursday is up 57% in women 18-34, 19% in adults 18-34 and 33% in women 18-49.

Good for them. Last night was the best thursday night of shows for me of the season. I thought FF, VP, and SN were great better then last week’s for sure. Now for all smallville fans lets get the ratings up tonight! Tonight is Kandor and Jor El comes to Smallville full flesh and blood.
Vampire Diaries is getting better!
Vampire Diaries is what’s saving CW from humiliation
Well, Top Model too. And GG in W 18-34…arguably Smallville given that it’s on Friday.
This is the only night the CW is competitive. The rest of the week is dreadful.
The only reason that the show is doing well is it’s capitalizing off of the vampire phenomenon that’s going on. I’m not sure this will hold for the long term, though.
Of this group of shows, Supernatural is the only one I’ll consider watching.
The CW can talk about how well it’s doing with 18-34 women when it passes Gray’s Anatomy. Then it can brag.
The minute the texting generation girls get tired of vampires, the show will drop, and drop hard and fast.
