(November 5,2009 New York, NY) On Friday, November 13, Judge Marilyn Milian welcomes Judge Joseph A. Wapner back to the bench of “The People’s Court” to litigate a special case in honor of his 90th birthday. Judge Wapner bangs the gavel on the Emmy-nominated court show that launched the entire court show genre and paved the way for a multitude of reality television shows. “The People’s Court was the original reality series featuring real litigants, real cases and real justice.
In recognition of Judge Wapner’s contributions, he will be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star on November 12.
Wapner reflects on his experience at “The People’s Court” as a gratifying instrument of education. Wapner relished his tenure on the bench, “It was a happy marriage of my love of the law and the entertainment industry.”
According to Executive Producer, Stu Billett, “The People’s Court” was an innovator. “In 1981, a simple show featuring small claims court cases found a television audience thirsting to hear compelling stories that they could relate to and found a judge in Joseph Wapner that was fair, knowledgeable and most importantly credible. I am proud that decades later the show is still going strong and the public is still eager to see justice served!”
Judge Marilyn Milian hands over the gavel to her predecessor, Judge Wapner to litigate a special case. “Returning to ‘The People’s Court’ on the occasion of my 90th birthday is a great privilege and honor.”
“The People’s Court” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Milian. An experienced team of researchers continually canvass courts across the country in search of the most compelling, unique and thought-provoking cases. Cases run the gamut from disputes between neighbors, family members and intimates to dissatisfied customers suing businesses. Milian’s decisions, based on current law, are final and binding.
“The People’s Court” is a Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Production and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

compelling stories
like the time a man sued for $2 over a VCR tape rewind fee
Uh oh! Definitely, definitely 12 minutes til Wapner.
I remember watching one of the court shows and a man was suing $10 because his neighbor didnt rake his leaves.
Trivial fact: Judge Wapner used to come over to our house to use our swimming pool in Pacific Palisades, California (before he got the show). We had to put the dog in the house when he was there, he didn’t like dogs. I wonder how many dog bite cases he decided over the years?
lol serisuly over 2 and 10 dollars, im going to watch it by the way RJ i love ur picture, i was at the parade on friday.
Is he Italian?
Bad Robot asked: “Is he Italian?”
Judge Wapner? If he skinny dip in Pacific Palisades and made big splashes when diving feet first, I’d assume he is Italian.
What happened to his sidekick, the bailiff?
Judge Wapner’s bailiff, Rusty, passed away in 2002. I remember another case that was cheaper (on all levels) than the $2 VCR case. A guy sued a vending machine company because he lost $.50 in soda machine and was unable to get a refund.
