Eastwick-2-ABC

Sorry Eastwick fans, but you should’ve seen it coming.

via James Hibberd’s the live feed:

ABC has picked up five more episodes of Tuesday night’s “The Forgotten” while deciding against ordering additional episodes of “Eastwick.”

In addition, ABC is yanking the planned upcoming debut of reality show “Let’s Dance.”

With the exception of scrapping plans for the only-just-recently-announced-to-begin-with Let’s Dance,  these moves aren’t a big surprise.  Perhaps the move of picking up The Forgotten is surprising for some, but Jerry Bruckheimer’s show will live on for at least 5 additional episodes.

The accountants might not be making all scheduling decisions, but they still hold some sway. ABC plans to air all 13 of the Eastwick episodes (so far 7 of the 13 have aired), though exactly when they will air is still unknown.

  1. forg says:

I wonder what will they do with Hank. I hope Eastwick will be able to wrap its story for the sake of the fans.

well, the forgotten is a procedural, so I guess ABC is hoping it will gain viewers over time and it did climb back to 2.0

  2. AO says:

On reading the first few lines then I was slightly surprised that they would order more of “The Forgotten”, and slightly moreso to pick it over “Eastwick”. But not terribly so. And Bruckheimer being a cause for that decision does make quite a bit of sense.

Congrats to “The Forgotten” fans and my condolences to those rooting for “Eastwick”.

  3. Tom says:

Forgotten sure surprises me. Just when would these air? Covering February? While ABC’s cupboards are bare, 10pm is the hour covered the best, with Castle, Happy Town, etc.

On the other hand, that ABC is scrambling for 10pm shows sure seems to put to rest the (in my mind always remote) posibility that Lost gets scheduled at 10. Either MF/CT or DWTSResults is getting booted to 8.

  4. cool says:

    Where’s Hank!

  5. While picking up The Forgotten might be surprising, picking it over Eastwick isn’t. Its had the better numbers season-to-date, and recently. Though it still has lousy numbers! Forg, in the finals it dropped back to a 1.9 last week.

  6. Ron says:

ABC just announced Kathy Griffin as the Let’s Dance host. Surprising it got cut.

  7. Julia says:

I guess ABC’s midseason isn’t as strong as it seems.

  8. forg says:

According to The Live Feed’s report “Let’s Dance” had difficulty casting so that’s why it’s canceled already. I guess they can’t find ‘stars’ anymore hehe.

Robert, oh it dropped to 1.9, but I guess ABC has more hopes for that to grow eventually. I don’t think it will though.

I’m waiting for what will happen to Hank. I just find it odd they haven’t announce anything for that show yet

  9. CK says:

Kathy Griffin hosting a dance show… Poor contestants being relentlessly taunted. I like Kathy Griffin, but can’t see that show going well. She is better taunting others when they are not in the same room.

  10. ABCHasProblems says:

If ABC decides to burn off the remaining Shark Tank episodes on Tuesdays @ 8, their winter Tuesday nights will be completely set. Maybe ABC will move AFV to Wednesdays @ 8 (with less male-oriented competition as opposed to Sundays), air the final season of LOST @ 9, and order 13 episodes of Super Millionaire to be aired @ 10 (replaced by FlashForward in the spring). I’m guessing FlashForward will be moved to a 10pm slot since it’s not performing as well as ABC expected. Happy Town might do well in the post-V slot in the spring (which would likely be Tuesdays @ 10).

  11. david says:

    Nooooooo Eastwick!

  12. FLASHFORWARD still is doing better than Ugly Betty did last season, even with last week’s season low, though it’s not clear that it has found its ratings floor yet.

  13. Julia says:

ABCHasProblems, where does ABC’s comedy lineup go in that schedule?

  14. Ron says:

Robert, did you mean to address that post to me? Confused

  15. ABCHasProblems says:

ABC could pair up Modern Family and The Middle on Thursdays @ 8, air Cougar Town @ 9:30 on Mondays, and air Romantically Challenged @ 8:30 Tuesdays after an abbreviated DWTS: Results show.

  16. indeed. Hank goes away, and I can see them fiddling with The Middle, but Modern Family and Cougar Town aren’t going anywhere. I won’t be surprised if ABC sticks LOST at 10pm on Wednesdays. It could move the forgotten to Weds at 10pm and air Lost on Tuesdays after DWTS results show.

But it could stick Lost at 8pm Thursdays and have a bang up Thursday night and move Flash Forward somewhere else too. I am enamored with the idea of loading up on Thursdays, and other than Survivor, the 8pm competition is pretty weak.

  17. ABC, I think you can count on Modern Family and CougarTown staying together on Wednesdays. I think for ABC, that’s as close to “it isn’t busted, so let’s not fix it” as it can get.

  18. Ron, confusion probably mine :-) comment deleted…

  19. Julia says:

Moving Lost back to 8 would be interesting. Putting it in front of Greys would mean they don’t have to worry that it can’t launch anything out of it, and it avoids Idol, for the most part.

  20. rob says:

Wow, I seriously thought ABC would give Eastwick a chance after calling it a quiet success but I guess not. Theres gonna be some major riot going on at the Eastwick board. Eastwick is seriously a great show that had great potential but of course ABC doesnt give it a chance.

The Forgotten is just another crime drama and probably cheap which is why it got additional episodes.

  21. Aaron says:

Smart move on canning “Let’s Dance” before it aired. We all remember how bad ‘Dance War’ turned out.

I’m surprised that they didn’t pull Hank as well, but I guess they need to save face a little bit.

  22. Julia says:

Rob, ABC gave it a chance. With the ratings it gets, it should have been pulled weeks ago, and it looks like they aren’t even going to pull it quite yet. But it will be fun to fill in our bingo cards when the Eastwick fans get word of this and start flooding the comments.

  23. Tom says:

@rob: Eastwick was never a success of any kind, “quiet” is just PR speak for “we don’t have anything else to air until midseason”.

And the Forgotten is a Bruckheimer production, and could cost twice what Eastwick does.

  24. rob says:

Eastwick aired 7 episodes and ABC barely gave the show the promotion it deserves. I hope Flash Forward keeps dropping!

  25. forg says:

For the Eastwick fans, ABC gave this show a chance and it had the opportunity to get a good chunk of the ratings pie with CSI NY’s declining ratings and Leno’s weak performance, it just did not pick up sadly but at least it will produce all 13 episodes so there’s a possibility for a closure to the story.

  26. rob says:

I doubt there will be any closure to the storylines. Seriously, what is good now to watch on ABC? Remake of V, Lost spinoff, and another crime drama. Like are these needed? ABC used to be my favorite network but Im done. Whats the point of watching tv anymore? Everything gets cancelled.

  27. ABCHasProblems says:

Modern Family/The Middle, LOST, and V would all rate higher than FlashForward on Thursdays @ 8. It would be a great idea for ABC if they tried one of those suggestions out in the spring.

I don’t see how Modern Family/Cougar Town could survive on Wednesdays @ 9 against Idol. Cougar Town seems like it could be compatible with DWTS and it would be interesting to see how well it would perform without Modern Family as its lead-in. Modern Family is a bona fide hit and would do well on any important advertising night, which is why I think it should be paired up with The Middle on Thursdays @ 8 in the spring.

  28. Aaron says:

You realize Eastwick was a remake as well, don’t you? :-/

  29. rob says:

Aaron, yea of a movie. Its never been a tv show before like V was. Watch V drop like crazy, Flash Forward dip below 2.0, and The Forgotten to keep getting crappy ratings. Im so pissed at ABC right now that Im not gonna watch Castle tonught. Gonna change the channel now!

  30. ABC, unless FOX is planning big changes, once all the two hour audition early episodes are used up, Idol will be a one hour show at 8pm on Wednesdays.

  31. ABCHasProblems says:

I have a feeling that Glee will move up to 8pm on Wednesdays in the Spring since it already has a loyal and established fanbase. With regards to ratings stability, Glee is definitely FOX’s next Bones.

  32. Bill Gorman says:

I’m surprised at the extra 5 episodes for The Forgotten. I think that speaks to ABC’s lack of confidence in what they have on the bench, as does the Let’s Dance scrapping.

  33. Will says:

I LOVED Eastwick. ABC had one fatal flaw with the show and that was putting it after their night of comedy as an afterthought. It should have been put on Sundays after Desperate Housewives and then bump B&S to a differnt night

  34. forg says:

Eastwick started great with a 3.0 rating when it premiered but it was continuously dropping while MF/CT held steady, so I think we can’t blame the sitcom lead in for the drop but I do agree though that it would have been a good match if they paired this with Desperate Housewives

  35. Mark says:

Robert, if ABC airs all of Eastwick’s episodes, do you think it has a chance at all of being released on DVD? Because I’m a big fan of the show, and I knew it was going to be canceled all along but if I had it on DVD I could enjoy it even after it leaves the small screen.

Also, I saw somewhere that Human Target is going to be taking Glee’s timeslot this mid-season, so when will Glee come back after December?

    Thanks.

  36. rob says:

forg, Cougar Town dropped to a 2.8 on Wednesday then Eastwick dropped to a 1.5.

  37. Harold says:

Is “Rob” intentionally trying to complete bingo cards?

Rob, how do you feel about Eastwick’s subsequent DVD sales?

Is it wrong to bait? :)

  38. usedtolovecoco says:

That’s a shame. Eastwick wasn’t perfect, but with slightly different casting and writing I think it could have been a hit. It felt like it was 80% there.

I’m really surprised at The Forgotten. I thought the world was sick of Christian Slater.

  39. Julia says:

Mark, you can depend on DVDs. They probably won’t make much money, but a studio would be stupid in this day and age not to release DVDs (unless there are other factors like music rights.)

  40. Bill Gorman says:

@Harold, “Is it wrong to bait?”

Not if you’re just a single square away from a bingo. I’d say then it’s no holds barred ;)

  41. rob says:

I cant wait until next week when I see that Heather Locklear had absolutely no effect on Melrose Place’s ratings. Its coming.

  42. ABCHasProblems says:

When ABC aired the pilot episode of Cashmere Mafia as a “sneak peek” following a new DH (back when it was a ratings powerhouse), it bombed in the ratings. It’s possible that Eastwick would’ve bombed as well had it’s pilot episode aired after the season premiere of DH. Maybe some shows shouldn’t be greenlit at all if they’re just going to bomb in the ratings (RIP Pushing Daisies & Eli Stone!).

  43. Tony says:

I actually would love to see. LOST on Thursdays at 8. V still on Tuesdays at 8. and Flashforward on at 8 on Tuesdays. But I don’t think that will happen because I still think flashforward will stay on thursdays the whole season.

I’m surprised about the forgotten, but not really. I mean Eastwick was for sure going to be cancelled, but I think ABC wants to give time for forgotten to grow just like Castle.

  44. never mind says:

Shame about eastwick-dont care what anyone says it really never had any marketing-not one poster any where-nothing-that would be abc’s fault.
Getting fed up of all this canceling….

  45. Julia says:

Ok, let’s see here, we’ve got no promotion, I’m never going to watch ABC again, too quick to cancel, bad lead-in. Anything else so far? Any bingos yet?

  46. Mark says:

Thanks Julia! Now I’m so worried.

  47. Mark says:

    I meant “not so”. Sorry.

  48. XSEDrake says:

Bummer about Eastwick. I was quietly enjoying it. ;-) But the casting always seemed a bit off, particularly among the men. I also agree with whoever said Eastwick ought to have aired on Sundays after Desperate Housewives. B&S has been slipping and may actually work better after Modern Family and Cougar Town. I’m honestly surprised ABC didn’t give this a shot before pulling the plug, but ABC doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to respecting fans.

  49. rob says:

I need to go to sleep now because im really pissed off and have to sleep it off. Maybe I will feel better in the morning.

  50. Doug (2) says:

@ ABChasproblems – Your scheduling ideas are terrible.

Idol will slot Wednesdays at 8pm, with Glee to follow. Fox has nothing to gain by airing AI at 9pm (viewers follow it anywhere), and Glee could bust out with a better lead-in, especially one that will deliver it younger viewers and have a similar theme.

Lost is either Wednesday at 10pm or Tuesday 9 or 10pm. I’d like to see DWTS/V/Lost on Tuesdays, personally. It really depends on how V holds up (and I think it will hold up well), but it could very well outrate Lost at this point.

I can’t see MF or CT moving anywhere. Despite the 8pm hours, those two shows have really established a beach-head at 9pm, especially MF. Moving it to 8pm would probably kill it. This is ABC’s first comedy delivering more than a 3.0 in adults since… when? ABC won’t take risks. Ditto for Fox and Glee. Neither show is well-established enough to start moving around the schedule.

Thursdays are the same. ABC will be patient with FlashForward. I can’t see ratings dipping too much further.

  51. Holly says:

Ok, let’s see here, we’ve got no promotion, I’m never going to watch ABC again, too quick to cancel, bad lead-in. Anything else so far? Any bingos yet?

You missed “But the press releases were so positive” (from the whole “quiet success” thing).

  52. A Town Called Argh says:

It is indeed a shame about “Eastwick” – I don’t remember seeing one poster, billboard, magazine ad nor any of the cast doing the talk show circuit, either (and Rebecca judging maternity designs on “Project Runway” doesn’t count, as “Eastwick” wasn’t even mentioned). All I saw were a few Internet banners. Still, am baffled about “The Forgotten.” Alas!

  53. forg says:

rob, it’s the first time Cougar Town dropped below 3.0 last week before that it was doing fine around the 3-3.2 so it was still a good lead in, it could have a least pulled a 2.0

  54. Don says:

“Modern Family/The Middle, LOST, and V would all rate higher than FlashForward on Thursdays @ 8. It would be a great idea for ABC if they tried one of those suggestions out in the spring.”

I agree with ABChasproblems except for the Modern Family/The Middle paring. Modern Family is doing well so far so keep that on Wednesday.

However Lost or V would work to kick off Thursday allthough I would sugggest V since Lost is a lame duck this season.

  55. ABCHasProblems says:

@ Doug (2): You brought up some really good points about my “terrible” scheduling ideas, but I’m not so sure about FlashForward staying @ 8pm on Thursdays. I would love to see DWTS/V/LOST on Tuesdays also. V and LOST from 9-11pm on Tuesdays would make for an unforgettable night of TV.

  56. Holly says:

I don’t suppose I can post as someone else for my last square on the bingo card?

  57. Jeff says:

Robert, why would airing all produced episodes really be the accountants? I see that it could be, but I also see that as finishing out the show, and while shows like Eastwick may have few fans, every show gets fans – and those fans want to see it air to the end. So I imagine those people are not claiming it’s the accountants.

Also, what might they air instead if they were to pull it immediately that would do as well or better? Or that they would creatively feel was as good or better? Honestly I have no idea what they should air instead. Any ideas?

  58. Holly, I’ll save you the trouble:

    Neilson is an antiquated system!

  59. Julia says:

Doug, while I agree with your assessment of Wednesday, I’m not so sure ABC will be too patient with FlashForward. I guess it depends how it does the next few weeks, but if it does keep dropping, I can see it being moved. I think the best bet right now is where V current is airing. Either V (if it doesn’t drop significantly in its initial run) or Lost will go on Thursday, where ABC can take advantage of the better ad rates. They might even sacrifice FF to Idol, if the ratings are low enough. At that point, they probably wouldn’t be bringing it back anyway, and they need to program something Tuesday and Wednesday at 8. (They won’t be moving DWTS to Tuesday at 8, since they specifically changed their schedule a few years back to avoid putting DWTS up against Idol.)

  60. Jeff, if it airs in its regular time slot, it’s the accountants (and/or lack of anything better on the bench). As far as “doing it for the fans” ABC could simply wait and air them in the summer as they did last season w/the remaining episodes of Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.

  61. Holly says:

Nah, I need “maybe a cable net will pick it up” ;)

  62. Bill says:

This Eastwick is actualy the third atempt at a remake of the movie, they made and Eastwick tv show in 1992 and 2002.

  63. Julia says:

Eastwick would fit really well on ABC Family! I’m sure they’ll pick it up!!!!

  64. never mind says:

Any chance of the nielsons being scrapped so this doesnt happen again?maybe have some device that monitors how long a show is watched for etc put into all new tv sets.
Will miss eastwick, pushing daises too, and life on mars-to hell with all this reality tv crap!

  65. Aaron says:

I think Eastwick would make a great Lifetime show! Any chance they’ll pick it up!?!?!?

    You’re welcome. :-P

  66. forg says:

Anyone have theories/ideas why ABC has not announced yet what will they do with Hank? I thought before that the fate of the three bubble shows will be announced together like what happened with Eli/PD/DSM last year. What’s keeping ABC from deciding/announcing what will they do with Hank? It’s the lowest rated among the three.

  67. Julia says:

Ooh, we’ve got a complaint about reality replacing everything. And a legit complaint about “Neilson.” (At least I think that’s a real complaint, and not trying to be funny.)

  68. Riff Rafferty says:

I’m too lazy to read all the previous comments but since I’m sure the “What? It’s cancelled? But I thought it was a quiet success!” jokes have already been made 10 times over, I’ll just say I am pretty sure that every single person on the entire face of the earth saw this coming.

Well, not andrew. But everyone else.

  69. Jon says:

This is really good for the bingo card! all we need now is CBS to announce they are cancelling Three Rivers. ;)

  70. Moe says:

So happy about “The Forgotten!” I really enjoy this little gem of a show, so glad it’s getting some more episodes, despite the ratings.

    Sorry to the “Eastwick” fans!

  71. Ruthie says:

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of when reading this article was, “Oh, good! With ‘Eastwick’ gone, that’s one less show that ‘Castle’ has to compete with for renewal!”?

Sigh. Nathan Fillion makes my brain turn to mush.

  72. Holly says:

    Bingo!

    LOL

  73. Nightstar says:

re Bingo: I’m never going to watch ABC again, too quick to cancel, bad lead-in, but the press releases were so positive, neilsen ratings aren’t fair, cable will pick it up (Lifetime) (cute, btw), reality TV ruins everything…

Does “It’s cursed!” count? Eastwick as a movie did okay, but as a television series, it’s been nothing but problems to get it to the small screen.

“Slightly different casting and writing” has been offered above. Two excuses there?

Well, either way, it is too bad for the Eastwick fans. Good start, steady decline, now destined for oblivion.

I guess this increases the chances Dr. Fontana is going to be escorted back to Eureka by Sheriff Carter. Maybe the doc and sheriff should wait at the city limits for Zoe as well since Hank is not doing so well, either.

  74. Andrea says:

Now that The Forgotten has got more eps, I might actually take a look at it!

  75. Nightstar says:

Btw, someone mentioned this before in another post somewhere (wish I could remember where — and if it was responded to, then I missed it — but I do think the Bingo Cards should have a permanent placement link (if possible) on the Home page so everyone can know what that is about (and can play!) :-)

  76. Doug says:

ABC may not want DWTS to air opposite Idol, but if V continues to pull a better demo, I don’t think they’ll be willing to sacrifice a new V for a declining DWTS. I would like to see Lost on Thursday too, but Ithink that the opportunity to pair it with V will be too juicy to avoid

  77. AO says:

I quite like the idea of pairing “V” and “FlashForward” on Tuesdays. And “Lost” on Thursdays makes sense as well, especially given the way that “FlashForward” has been sliding.

But “The Forgotten” on Wednesdays after “Cougar Town”? Lead-ins are not the only scheduling concern, but those two shows just don’t strike me as a good combination. I’m certainly not a Network scheduler though, perhaps they would work great together.

  78. Bill Gorman says:

Nightstar, others, I lack the technical ability to add a link to one of the Nav bars (Obi-Wan Seidman is the master, I am but the learner), but I put a Fan Excuse Bingo Cards link in the center column on the main page just above the Recent Comments list.

  79. Riff Rafferty says:

“The Forgotten” extension didn’t surprise me (read the last few ABC renew/cancel indexes if you think I’m lying)*, just like I won’t be surprised if a certain someone at FOX decides to air the “American Idol” results show at 9:00pm to try to flatten a certain show on ABC whose co-creators/showrunners dislike certain someone at FOX.

*Granted, its numbers looked better before “V” premiered. But ABC deserves a bit of the blame for “The Forgotten,” as it’s really gotten short thrift in on-air promotion as of late. If they put James Van Der Beek’s episode on December 1 (when CBS has the Victoria’s Secret thing) and really pushes it that week, you know, who knows what might happen. It could grow. Or viewers will forget about watching it. Either or!

  80. never mind says:

@ julia…whats wrong with an opinion?stick to voicing ur opinion on shows and not disrespecting others with sarcasm.
    I liked eastwick.
It did not have good promotion.
There is too much reality crap tv and not enough scripted shows except for cop/medical!
    Peace…

  81. Nightstar says:

Bill, found it and thank you very much for the note. Much appreciated (and separately bookmarked!) :-)

  82. Julia says:

never mind, just trying to help out with the bingo game. Not insulting anyone.

  83. Don J says:

the forgotten isn’t a bad procedural. Slater, Heather Stephens, Michelle Borth and Bob Stephenson have been solid leads. It’s pretty much in the same realm as Bruckheimers other procedurals and I understand why ABC would rather stick with it.

  84. Dan says:

Wow whats weird is in the beginning of the season, I guessed that Forgotten would get additional episodes and Eastwick would be axed. I actually thought Forgotten would be 50/50 on renewal and I was so sure that it would be axed.

  85. never mind says:

julia,u were not insulting me,its impossible for me to be insulted by type on a computer screen, its just tvbythenumbers is good for direct information and thats it.
Its just that there is a bit of lampooning going on here and there and quoting numbers that do not respond to the reality (no pun intended)of the popularity of any given show.
    x

  86. matttttt says:

Why in the world would they move LOST?!

They really want to help their already stron Thursday? That’s just stupid. Help your standing on another night, not the night that always wins.

  87. Dan says:

Looks like The Forgotten may actually air throughout January. With 18 episodes, ABC doesnt seem to have that much room for other midseason dramas. Its likely when Forogtten finishes, another drama will air at 10.

  88. Julia says:

Dan, I expect Forgotten will timeshare with The Deep End.

  89. Dan says:

Also, expect a big drop for The Forgotten once it airs behind Scrubs and Ted. I think ABC can be able to burn off all of Eastwick through January 13, now that theyve officially axed the show.

  90. Tommy says:

Don’t know if this helps anyone’s Bingo, but lets not forget. “The Network really likes this show”

  91. Dan says:

Julia – Deep End has 6 episodes, so it could air when Castle finishes after March. Copper or Happy Town (which each have 13) could air 10pm Tuesdays. I really didnt think ABC would order more Forgotten, especially with their already tight midseason schedule.

  92. Dan says:

Tommy – The network liked Eastwick, which is why the series will air out all 13 episodes. Hpefully ABC airs the series out through January 13 so they dont have to burn episodes off next summer.

  93. Stacy says:

Not sure if it matters to ABC execs, but within the show FlashForward itself there is some relevance to a Thursday in April 2010 (it’s the date everyone’s consciousness jumped to), so it may not be moved.

  94. Julia says:

Dan, Castle is not ending in March. Castle has a full season, and will air the way all full seasons do, which is through till May, including some repeats airing in March and April.

  95. Dan says:

Flashforward is staying put. Theres really nowhere to move the series and its strong enough if ABC leaves it Thursdays at 8. Castle should stay Mondays at 10 and Forgotten Tuesdays at 10. Forgotten may be replaced after it ends by Happy Town or Copper and Catle could be replaced by The Deep End. True Beauty is actually axed BTW, and its hard to say where Lost will be airing. Wednesdays at 10pm looks like the only available slot.

  96. Julia says:

Again, there is no way in hell that Castle will end its season before May. Period.

  97. Dan says:

Julia – Castle may air all 22 episodes and finish up as early as March. It could air through May but ABC has other midseason dramas that they may want to test out.

  98. Julia says:

IT WILL NOT END IN MARCH. Unless the ratings drop to such a low point that it completely gets pulled off the air, there’s no way for a 22 episode season to end in March. That’s not the way TV seasons work. So just get the idea out of your head.

  99. Tommy says:

Dan – ABC usually airs all the episodes of the shows they cancel at some point. There are very few shows that I can think of that didn’t air all of the episodes at some point. So I wouldn’t say that ABC liked the show just because they are going to air all of them at some point.

  100. Dan says:

ABC has too many series though. Wife Swap, Lost, V, all returning by Jan-March as well as the premieres of Copper, Happy Town and The Deep End.

  101. Julia says:

Then they will save some (Copper, Wife Swap) for summer. They will not air a 22 episode season so that it ends in March. It does not work that way.

  102. Tommy says:

Dan don’t forget that rerun season is right around the corner. Castle will be on the same airing timetable as DH, GA, PP, B&S. It will take it’s hiatus with the rest of those shows and come back with fresh episodes at the same time.

  103. Dan says:

Julia – What About Brian had a full 22 episode second season and despite being cut to 19 all episodes aired by March. With 22 episodes, Castle could end in April but there wont be repeats especially airing after Dancing.

Tommy – ABC does air all episodes of their series (some returning in the summer) but if ABC is smart they would air Eastwick out until January 13, so it finishes and ABC wont need to bring it back in the summer. Whatever will air 10pm Wednesdays, possibly Lost, would premiere late Jan, early Feb.

  104. Dan says:

Julia – I dont think theyll air those in the summer. If anything Wife Swap will return fridays, Copper could be preempted. The only reason Id expect Castle to finish slightly early would be if it drops and ABC tests out timeslots but it is likely to finish out.

  105. Julia says:

Ok, I’m done. You obviously refuse to understand how TV seasons work.

  106. Matttttttttttt there is a premium for Thursday advertising. There aren’t really any premiums for helping the standing of another night other than press releases. it might be different if LOST made for a good lead-in, but it hasn’t. If I’m ABC, I go for the kill on the night I can make the most money. The 8pm hour is there for the taking.

  107. Joompa says:

Poor Kathy. I was looking forward to that show.

  108. Dan says:

Ok I accept the fact that Castle will air through May. Sometimes with ABC however, series get temporarily replaced especially in a post Dancing slot. In the past ABC has preempted Men in Trees to end early, Ugly Betty last March temporarily. ABC likes to do that though especially if they have new dramas that could work as candidates for 10pm. Thats the reason that I thought Castle could finish up early. Any other network would air through May but depending on ratings (Castle will air post Bachelor) ABC may be willing to air less repeats.

  109. Dan says:

If ABC keeps the comedy block, I cant see where Lost could return. It could air Tuesdays at 9 until Dancing returns but then move to Wed at 10. If V returns to Tuesdays at 8, ABC could move Scrubs and Ted to Wed 8-9 and move The Middle to air post Dancing mondays. WIth so many comedies, its likely 1 of them will air post Dancing.

  110. Riff Rafferty says:

Julia writes, “”Dan, I expect Forgotten will timeshare with The Deep End.”

^This. “Boston Legal’s” old home is the best time slot for “The Deep End” in late March. Despite the fact that CBS has a legal show of their own there. Because “The Deep End” and “The Good Wife” are different. Even though they’re the same. Kind of like how “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” are all the same. Only different. I learned this on “Andy Richter Controls the Universe.”

  111. Dan says:

When Forgotten ends, The Deep End could air in the slot with 6 eps. I really wish ABC would announce their sched so we would know more about their plans. Forgotten’s additional eps were a surprise, but it just shows ABC’s sched is really packed.

  112. Sara says:

That totally sucks…I was starting to like Eastwick. But I’m suprised they havnt cancelled Hank yet…and I’m sorry, but the forgotten is a really bad show with aweful writing and acting in my opinion. Eastwick was a lot better.
Well, here is another one to add to the list of Always Being Cancelled, ABC

  113. Tommy says:

I’m surprised by the forgotten getting more episodes, and like others have said, I think it has more to do with ABC not having much faith in their midseason this year.

  114. cool says:

^I read that ABC will announce their midseason schedule before Friday.

  115. Riff Rafferty says:

Tommy writes, “Dan – ABC usually airs all the episodes of the shows they cancel at some point. There are very few shows that I can think of that didn’t air all of the episodes at some point.”

I would answer this question with a list, but it would be so long, the server would probably crash. With that said, since the strike hit, McPherson/ABC have been a lot more magnanimous in regards to burning off a production run. I can only think of 1 ABC show from last season that wasn’t afforded that luxury (and it was no great loss to anyone) and 2 from the season before (okay, dumont is still sad about that). All the networks basically have been. Kind of takes you back to the early ’70s, don’t it?

  116. Tommy says:

Sara, ABC is usually much more patient with comedies. Scrubs and Better Off Ted got pretty bad ratings last year and both of them got renewed. I highly doubt Hank will get renewed for 2010-2011 but right now they really don’t have anything to replace it with besides a repeat. Scrubs and Better Off Ted are going to be paired together on Tuesdays, and ABC doesn’t have anything else ready to go right now. So Hank will air and be that show that always gets preempted to air 30 min specials like Charlie Brown and stuff like that.

  117. Alec says:

Fingers crossed for moving Ugly Betty to Wednesdays at 10 or 8?

  118. Dan says:

Sara – Atleast their burning Eastwick off, other networks would pull the show. Though for some reason networks this year have been more lenient. FOX’s Dollhouse & Brothers, CBS’s Three Rivers, and NBC’s Trauma are examples of series that are capped at 13 episodes, yet are still airing.

Tommy – Im surprised too. Especially once Forgotten airs after Scrubs and Ted, the series will suffer a large drop. In September I thought 50/50 that forgotten would get more eps, but as the weeks went on I though more and more it would be pulled. Now the 2 series that I correctly predicted would be axed, are being pulled soon (Eastwick and Hank) Also ABC does have a lot of midseaosn series. Im surprised some of the dramas havent had their episode order cut. 13 episodes for 2 drama series is a lot, and 6 for 1 is still alot too. Also ABC has Lost, Wife Swap and V. My guess is that Forgotten will air all 18 and be replaced by a midseason drama. If anything all episodes of any drama will be burned off next summer.

  119. cool says:

UB is not going to move, they will not break the comedy block and at 10PM is way too late.

  120. Dan says:

Tommy – Thats because ABC needs comedies, however it seems that they have their fill with Modern Family, The Middle and Cougar Town. Im interested to see what ABC will do with their comedy block come January. Hank will be gone but what ABC will do with the current trio as well as Scrubs and Ted is still beyond me. It just makes me want to see their midseason even more.

  121. Dan says:

Cool – Ugly Betty will stay on fridays. ABC is going to cancel the series anyway and they need other 10pm slots during the week for new dramas.

  122. Tommy says:

Dan, I think Hank will be replaced my Romantically Challenged come midseason. But until then they really don’t have man options.

Alec, UB won’t be moving from Fridays. The only reason the show got another season was to reach syndication.

  123. Dan says:

Tommy – ABC could choose to break the comedy block. Depending on what they want to do with Lost, ABC may not want to just replace Hank with RC. ABC has so many options but I am anxious for the midseason sched to be announced.

  124. Tommy says:

As far as the midseason comedy block I think ABC will move The Middle to 8, have Romantically Challenged at 8:30, and Keep Modern Family and Cougar Town where they are. They may put RC at 8 if they think it will work better as a lead-in for TM.

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see FlashForward get moved to 10PM on Wednesdays and Lost air at 8 on Thursdays. I like the idea of pairing V and Lost, but there isn’t a way to do that without throwing DWTS under the Idol bus on Tuesdays. If V holds up it could get the 8PM Thursday time slot next year.

  125. cool says:

No way they’re going to break the comedy block, they put too much effort in having a comedy block and MF is a hit, CT is a decent perfomer and The Middle is just meh. They’re not throwing the towel so soon.

  126. Tommy says:

Dan I doubt that ABC will breakup the comedy block this season. Even with it’s short comings it has really been successful and they would be crazy to mess with it. ABC really wants a night of comedy and it looks like they have finally found a good night for it. Idol will put a dent in it, but I’m sure ABC expects that to happen. Hank is the blocks weak link, and I think The Middle can do better with either a better leadin, or it starting the night at 8.

  127. Dan says:

Tommy – Thats smart, ABC airing The Middle at 8 and Romantically at 8:30. Im not sure if ABC would be so quick to premiere Romantically in the block, since its likely to be pummeled by idol. I think Flashforward will stay put 8 Thursdays. Airing the series at 10 is essentially killing it and I think ABC being consistent (and airing it 8 is smart) This Leaves Lost to air 10pm wednesdays, which may not be a bad thing. If ABC wants to keep the comedy block, theres no other slots for Lost.

  128. Dan says:

I just wish ABC would announce their sched so we wouldnt have to keep guessing on what ABC will do with their series. They have so many options.

  129. Tommy says:

If FF keeps dropping in the rating ABC may just say screw it and move it just to let it die. Lost is almost guaranteed to get good ratings anywhere ABC puts it, and like Robert pointed out earlier there is a ad premium for Thursdays so I don’t see why ABC wouldn’t want to capitalize on Lost’s final season. Would I be shocked to see FF at 8 on Thursdays for midseason? No, but I also wouldn’t be shocked to see it get moved to another night either.

  130. Mumbo says:

“Hank? You mean we didn’t cancel that already?” is probably why it hasn’t gotten the axe yet.

Shocked actually that the forgotten got five more episodes, I guess they wanted five more weeks of the only drama on television to lose regularly to the Jay Leno Show.

I always kind of figured that V and FF would kind of be vying for one spot on ABC next season. We don’t know how well V will hold its audience, but with the way FF’s tumbling I’m guessing V will get the go-ahead. I could be totally wrong though.

  131. lainey says:

Well, if the decision is ever made to do a pro-cancelling set of excuses/bingo cards, then I vote for the “Everybody should have known(fill in the blank with your reason why said show should be cancelled).

  132. vsaint says:

What does this say about ABC mid-seaon schedule. Last year was a train wreak. If Forgotten is the best you can offer.
Too bad for Eastwick, lots of potential, but thin story lines, writing and alittle too slow.

  133. John says:

I thought that the “5 more episode” order was sort of like a football owner saying “we have complete confidence in the coach”. Isn’t such a statement equivalent to saying “we are going to be making a change soon.”?

If they really liked the Forgotten, wouldn’t they have picked up the back 9 (especially since the bench is weak)?

  134. likeucare says:

I liked eastwick you guys suck..

  135. ABCFanatic2009 says:

    Surprised about the forgotten

Unfortunately there’s no replacement for the forgotten yet, they scraped Lets Dance and True Beauty seems dead so I can see why they ordered 5 episodes of the Forgotten.

Good thing for Eastwick that they will air all the episodes.

  136. hey says:

maybe lets dance can move to early spring? like a “build up” for DWTS spring season? that gives them more time to find contestants..

  137. Ali says:

Noooooooooooooo, Eastwick :’( :’( what a shame…. I hope they wrap everything up though. They have 6 episodes to do so.

  138. Meli says:

Hey, maybe NBC will pick up ‘Let’s Dance’ and ‘Eastwick’, or perhaps the CW will. It’s not like either of those networks airs enough unmitigated crap as it is. Then again, that’s a bad idea–it’s not like we had enough of the ‘Chuck’ and ‘Sarah Connor Chronicles’ loonies floating around the past six months demanding some network pick up their show.

What rocket scientist decided to announce a greenlight on a reality show before they made sure they had the contestants? Has Ben Silverman quietly begun working at ABC?

  139. phantom says:

Of course Forgotten had better numbers season-to-date, it HAD a fairly decent lead-in, Eastwick never got a chance.

CW, Lifetime PICK UP EASTWICK!!!! It’s your target audience!! It could be HUGE especially with CW paired up with The Vampire Diaries. They could finally have a real power-combo-day.

  140. pissed says:

Eastwick canceled, that SUCKS. I LOVED the program, watching it with my girls. boooooooooo ABC.

  141. pissed says:

HOLD on a second! Canceling Eastwick is crap because hundreds of random people rated the following shows, and these ratings (1 to 5) are HIGH:

    Middle 3.7
    Cougar Town 4.2
    EASTWICK 4.3
    Flash Forward 4.7

I’ve seen other ratings people give on zap2it.com and these are high ratings.

  142. Spike says:

    boooooo ABC you suck!

  143. petermiller says:

I have just sent the following message to CW, I hope at least they read it. It’s a long shot, but worth a try, so please don’t be rude about it. Thoughts ??? Other pros I forgot ?

    Dear CW,

Here are the obvious reasons, you should PICK UP EASTWICK!
    - it is produced by Warner, the same production arm that produces your biggest hit of the season, the Vampire Diaries; so you already have a thriving working relationship AND they own half your network, so you could probably get a decent deal, too
    - Eastwick’s target demo are women just as your network, and it delivers much better results in the women’s demos than overall
    - it’s a mystery-fantasy show for women, so it could be a perfect match for Vampire Diaries and this combo could potentially become HUGE for you – you could finally have your first power-combo-day in a long time
    - it could live a long and happy life on your network just as the similarly themed Charmed did a few years back – Eastwick was bound to be canceled on a bigger network, but on CW it could be a great success

    Your midseason-schedule could be great

Monday – One Tree Hill/Gossip Girl
GG is still strong in key demos, why bother changing the slot then
    Tuesday – 90210/Life Unexpected
    teen show+teen show=best possible lead-in
    Wednesday – ANTM/Melrose Place
if you really want to improve MP – and I think you do – you should stop wasting one of your best lead-in-s for repeats; with this new slot and Heather Locklear the show would have an actual and very possible chance to improve its ratings

    Thursday – The Vampire Diaries/Eastwick
female-oriented mystery-fantasy shows, this could be a really powerful combination for you
    Friday – Smallville/Supernatural
they worked well last year and with Smallville’s improved ratings SN would have a very good chance to improve the time slot

    Thank you for your time

    Peter Miller

PS. I’m sorry if I was offensive in any way

  144. aznfratboy says:

When does Dancing wit hthe Stars generally start and end?

  145. Michael J says:

Does this mean Tess will returning to Eureka for Season 4? :P

  146. ABCFanatic says:

you are dreaming peter miller *rolls eyes*

  147. Michael J says:

    @ Peter Miller

I appreciate and understand your zeal, but the hurdles are many. For one thing, there is no guarantee that Warner Brothers would grant a license to CW for the series notwithstanding whether they could afford it. Furthermore, Warner Brothers would likely require a committment to purchase a minimum number of episodes and given the ratings that CW is pulling in it and their resulting revenue stream it is questionable whether CW could get the financing to do it. Botton line is that there is no guarantee that the show would do any better on CW than it did on ABC and I think what Rob and Bill have been saying is accurate in that the accountants have a big say and those at CW would probably say no way. There is the possibility that a cable channel might pick it up, but then again the same concerns that would prevent the CW from purchasing new episodes would still apply.

  148. rob says:

Ok Im a little better now. I’ll be happy if ABC airs all the episodes now and not wait until the summer. I’ll be even more pissed if they wait until the summer!!

  149. T says:

Yaaay for the Forgotten. I love that show. Glad, ABC ordered more episodes of it. Sorry for all Eastwick fans. I havent seen the show, but i love Lindsay Price (since her last show Lipstick jungle).

  150. The Other Tony says:

I agree with others that said Eastwick should have aired after DH. It’s the same tone and the same audience. Haven’t they learned that they can’t throw all new shows on one night and they can’t have a new show at 10pm on Wed’s? They have to establish a new show with one of it’s other shows that have an audience. Shouldn’t this be obvious?

  151. Michael says:

Pissed, ABC doesn’t care how many people think Eastwick is a good show. They care how many people WATCH Eastwick, and the answer is, not many.

  152. Dan says:

Rob – Its likely ABC could just burn through the 13 now but they may pull the series and return it summer.

  153. r2zv2n says:

yes michael yes…the same thing is happening with chuck!

  154. Did “Eastwick” beat its competition?

Anybody think “Eastwick” was on too late?

    (Thanks for the ruling, Bill.)

  155. dan says:

OMG only 2 Chuck mentions? heavens, the chucksters are out of shape!

  156. rob says:

Eastwick could air its final 6 episodes November 25, December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. The show would be done in time for January.

  157. The Other Tony says:

I would think Lost is the early favorite for the Wed at 10pm slot

  158. Smallville says:

hey is the cast and producers of Castle starting right now on more episodes?
Also im really surprised when The forgotten aired the first episode i watched like the first half hour and then i got bored i thought it did terrible. If i had to choose over the two i would’ve chosen to renew eastwick just to be nice to Rebecca Romjin. The shows i watched that were new and i hated were Community, The Forgotten, Hank, Three Rivers, and the Brothers show on fridays. The new shows that i like are Flash Forward, Vampire Diaries, Cougar Town, NCIS: LA, Trauma (im sad its not getting renewed), and V

  159. AJ says:

    Wednesday 8:00 – Lost
    9:00 Modern Family
    9:30 Cougar Town
    10:00 Ugly Betty
    ?

  160. Anonymous says:

Putting “Ugly Betty” in the Wednesday 10pm slot could work really well IMO, especially with ‘Cougar Town’ as a lead-in. At the network I work at (in Canada), unfortunately we won’t be able to follow the same schedule (since the Jay Leno show is on at 10pm)….but we’re hurting badly with Ugly on Friday’s.

  161. Julie says:

Ok, does anyone here actually watch The Forgotten. I too get sick of procedural crime dramas but this one is different and even if the acting is a bit much at times, the story lines are fabulous. I think this is one of the best new shows of the season. V wasn’t bad but as a fan of the old series, this one had way too much crammed into the first episode. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I used to only watch CBS, CW and Fox and never ABC but with some of the new shows, I have actually started watching ABC. I enjoy Castle very much. I was glad to hear that the back nine were picked up. Now if only Chuck would come back sooner on NBC…sigh.

  162. Chuck Tranberg says:

This should be another reminder to networks not to remake 20 year old movies which had previously flopped as TV series (a warning to Parenthood too). If Eastwick could barely win against Leno then you know there are problems.

  163. lukas84 says:

Eastwick is good show and i’m sorry becouse abc cancel it. Betty hold on!

  164. Craig says:

Crushed, this is a good show which deserved a chance

  165. Karen says:

I would mourn the loss of Eastwick if they had not killed off Chad. Only reason some of us watched. The storylines just dragged on too slowly. Great cast but the writing just wasn’t there.

I also hope that the actress that played Kat will return to Eureka. I loved what her character brought to that show.

I laughed when I read that press release from ABC a few weeks ago that called Eastwick their “quiet success”. They lost something like 2 million viewers from the premiere to the second episode and they dropped steadily from there until leveling off at about 5 million. Still, I will be buying the dvd whenever it comes out.

    ABC/ABCF…….same pinheads just different initials.

  166. Really Tired says:

Leno took out a 10pm show? Is that possible?

  169. Lee says:

    (Smallville says:
hey is the cast and producers of Castle starting right now on more episodes?)

Jose Molina said they’ll start filming the back 9 mid December.

  170. Dan says:

Forg – Well If Ugly Betty moved to Wednesdays, that would give Wife Swap the chance to go back on fridays. Putting a Veteran on Wednesdays at 10 may solve the problem for now but it begs the question, where will ABC air Lost. If 10pm wednesday is filled with Betty, 10pm Tuesday has Forgotten, and 10pm Monday has Castle then ABC would have to break the comedy block up to air Lost at 9 wednesdays.

Robert – I actually believed Forgotten would get additional episodes around September. However while Eastwick being axed was expected, Im surprised ABC didnt wait to see how The Forgotten would drop when Dancing ended. Eastwick has expected should air all 13 episodes so by January 20th or Should ABC decide to pull the series, at most 3 episodes will be left for Summer.

  171. Brad says:

    My thoughts…

    Good to see Eastwick gone.

Forgotten getting 5 more episodes is a surprise, but as Julia said, it will share with Deep End so not getting the full 9 makes sense (and 2 less weeks of repeats).

Some TV shows never get a DVD release. Still waiting on Privileged and Southland finally got announced today. Given the star power involved with the show it’ll come out probably in May.

  172. Dan says:

Im actually for Betty moving to wednesdays at 10. I doubt Betty will do much better then fridays but the comedy type series is a good fit. It would be a lot better if it was midseason 2010-2011 because we wouldnt have to worry about Lost but theres 18 episodes.

  173. chaos amoeba says:

I think the bingo card is missing a more generic version of: “But that other show sucks!” I know there’s a “better ratings than another show in the time slot” (which is a halfway decent excuse), but there are quite a number of general other shows are bad comments, such as…

“I hope Flash Forward keeps dropping!”

As an aside, was Eastwick really pitched as a “remake” of the movie — since that would be wholly inaccurate? They don’t try to replicate the movie at all. Rather, it is either (1) an adaptation of the movie or (2) an adaptation of the book. For no other reason than to sound “classy”, I assume they pitched it as the latter — but does any one know? (Hey, they show really didn’t have much promotion…)

  174. Dan says:

Brad – The Forgotten could share its slot with Happy Town. Either Town or The Deep End would be a good choice to replace the series once it finishes. ABC also has V returning in March likely to 8pm Tuesdays. Please ABC announce your midseason soon. ABC announced there midseason on this day last year too.

  175. Lu says:

Well at least one of Stephen Gallagher’s shows survives. They killed Eleventh Hour, great show, it would’ve been a crime to cancel The Forgotten because I think the show is really good, despite what people say.
Advertise it more and it’ll get better ratings.

  176. Dan says:

I doubt Forgotten will last after its 18 have aired. I expect a drop in the series once DWTS finishes, in which case Forgotten will be forgotten by ABC.

  177. andrew says:

The Eastwick ship sailed for me over the last two weeks when the demo rating just kept getting lower.

At leas they’re going to air all of the episodes.

I don’t expect The CW to pick up the show either. I believe it got a 1.4 in the demo last week. If the series were picked up by The CW, it would only continue to DROP, which is why they won’t touch it.

It was good while it lasted, though :)

  178. Dan says:

CW never picks up cancelled series, they do their own thing. Eastwick’s cancellation was expected though, given the bad timeslot. My only hope is that ABC airs all of Eastwick quickly (and not burn it in the summer) and hopefully if Betty moves to 10pm wednesdays, the veteran does somewhat well in the slot. My best prediction for Ugly betty is about 5-6 million viewers overall. I cant imagine where Lost will air and I hope ABC cuts the order of their midseason drama Happy Town to 6-8 eps so ABC has room.

  179. TD says:

“Eastwick” was a good show and did not get the chance it deserved. They should have tried it in another time slot. “the forgotten” is horrible and should have been cancelled. Also “Hank” sucks out loud underwater and needs to go too! I am getting sick of ABC killing off good shows. They need to find “Ugly Betty” a new time slot ASAP or it will be dead as a doornail soon too!

  180. chet says:

instead of bingo i was thinking something like a football league. instead of players picking shows

as far as eastwick the writing was on the wall
    so i am not surprised
i am surpised on the Forgotten stuff
i agree with others abc is in a bind and cant cancel willy nilly
betting on the forgotten to grow an audience is a better choice IMO

  181. Dan says:

TD – Ugly Betty could be moved to Wednesdays at 10 in January, but it begs the question again, where will ABC air Lost. Without comprising DWTS tuesdays, If ABC moves Scrubs and Ted to Wednesdays 8-9 and puts The Middle on hiatus temporarily, Lost could air Tuesdays at 8 or 9 late Jan-Feb. Then when DWTS premieres in March, Lost could shift to Tuesdays at 8 and V could return Tuesdays at 10 when Forgotten ends. ABC has a lot of series for midseason so its hard to predict, but a priority fo ABC is the scheduling of Lost.

  182. Amanda says:

Whoever cast Kathy Griffen as the host was a loon. It gives me some hope that even in Hollywood enough people recognized that going on a dance show with Kathy Griffen was a lose-lose proposition.

  183. ScienceOfTV says:

I live in the UK, where Let’s Dance was orriginally broadcast. Although at first it seemed that it was going to be a cheaply made remake of Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With The Stars), it turned out to be quite fun. It managed over 7 million viewers on a Saturday nignt for the BBC. 7 MILLION!!! That’s more than Eastwick and about on par with The Forgotten, and don’t forget this was on a Saturday and in the UK (60 million people live in the UK compared to over 300 million in the US). So it’s a shame that Let’s Dance isn’t going to air, but I did have doubts when they didn’t announce the contestants.

  184. Dan says:

ABC had trouble casting and they dealt with it by airing a new series in the slot temporarily. The series probably wouldnt have continued past its first season. Theres still no word on Hank, but its just a matter of time before ABC pulls it. More likely in December though.

  185. ScienceOfVT says:

@ whoever said moving Ugly Betty to 10pm

That’s a terrible timeslot for a show like this (just as Eastwick at 10pm is or was). In the UK, Channel 4 (which aires Ugly Betty) recently moved Betty to Wednesday at 10 and saw its ratings decrease dramatically from around 3-4 million each episode to nearly 800,000 viewers. A loss of 2 million has been seen from moving Betty back 1 hour. Since then Betty has been pushed back even further (around 11pm).

  186. Carol says:

Not surprised Eastwick was cancelled. On Thefutoncritic I remember seeing it had a 1.6 demo rating for last week.

  187. Shannon says:

I’m really disappointed about Eastwick being canceled. It was beating Jay Leno for crying out loud! Some shows get better with time and I am surprised that networks don’t take that into consideration before giving a show the ax. Sometimes, you have to let the show go on for another season before it truly gets the credit that it deserves. In the land of dvr it’s bound to happen more like this unless we tell the networks to stop taking the shows that we love!

  188. Nightstar says:

RE: Was Eastwick the ‘Australian job’ that the blonde girl in the picture took on Eureka? Does Eastwick getting cancelled mean she’ll be back on Eureka?

Given that Jamie Ray and the producers parted on good terms (given some things I’ve read, although the joke note of “hope your show gets canceled” from the producers *might* be a topic of discussion ;-) ) and the producers of Eureka themselves saying they would love to have her back, chances are pretty good she will return at some point. Whether as a regular or a guest-star, time will tell. Personally, I hope she does return to Eureka as a regular — I enjoyed Dr. Fontana shaking things up over at Global Dynamics. Now, if they can just find someone to replace Ed Quinn (Nathan Stark) to fill that particularly large gap in the character dynamics… or convince him to come back and use the “no one dies in sci fi” rule to good effect…

I am so bummed about Eastwick. I watch both Eastwick and The Forgotten and I could give two shits if The Forgotten were cancelled. I would take Eastwick over The Forgotten anyday.

  190. Tim says:

Eastwick never even should of aired, it had no chance of lasting. The third time they tried to remake a movie and they thought it work?

  191. Michael J says:

    @Nightstar

Actually, I think Jamie Ray Newman’s character was meant to “replace” Ed Quinn’s “Stark”. In interviews she’s given she has expressed her desire to return to Eureka in Season 4 and now that she isn’t bound by her contract to ABC for Eastwick beyond the 13 episodes my guess is that NBC/Universal is talking to her agent, if they haven’t already started discussions. I agree with you that I would love to see her come back as a regular on Eureka.

  192. Michael J says:

    @Nightstar

As an addendum to my prior post, I recall one interview Ms. Newman gave about a month ago where she stated that the producers of Eureka intentionally left the door wide open last season for her to return; the only sticking point was whether ABC would allow her to do Eureka concurrently with Eastwick, which is a moot point now.

  193. I need another card. With shows like “Eastwick,” I’m never going to get “critics love it,” “Awards,” and “too smart.”

  194. Dan says:

Science – Ugly Betty moving to wednesdays at 10 would help the comedy block but wont help Betty. However I still believe UB will end after this season. If anything Betty will get an additional 13 to make it to 100.

Tom – Eastwick is scheduled for a new ep on 12/2 and 12/16. There will be specials on 12/9, 12/23 and 12/30. ABC could air the remaining Eastwick Jan 6, 13, and 20 (recommended) or they could burn the eps off in the summer.

  195. Veegee says:

It is a shame about Eastwick. But, all I can say about the show is, to me, it was not terrible. I would have kept watching because I like shows that are a little different. But, just because it was watchable, to me, definitely did not make it great. I almost didn’t even start watching – it had ‘cancellation’ written all over it. There was nothing else on, so I watched and said, “OK. I’ll add it to my season pass, but I know it’s going soon.” And sure enough it is now going. As far as keeping forgotten….Ugh. I watched one episode and said forget it. Better luck next year ABC (though it is annoying to watch only 7 episodes of a show and watch it go away)

  196. Charmy87 says:

I really hope another network picks up Eastwick…It has potential to be a really good show. The plot really wasnt bad at all…If not i hope they least release the rest of the plot line on dvd or something…but i really hope it gets picked up somewhere else.

  197. kl says:

Oh it’s very upsetting. I was falling in love with Eastwick. Made sure I watched it every week. I hope it comes back someday!

  198. kl says:

Thought I would add that The Forgotten sucks

  199. HeidiL says:

Personally, I love Eastwick, but in the past 2 or 3 years, the only shows that make it anymore (past 1 season, 2 if you’re lucky) are shows not on ABC, NBC, or CBS… unless you are a crime drama, reality show, or sometimes a medical show.

Seriously, nothing on these 3 networks is worth watching anymore or investing it because it will be cancelled unless it is one of the 3 I mentioned above. Until execs take into account the DVR and Hulu type ratings, nothing will change. The way America watches TV has changed to fit our schedules, not theirs anymore. I work 2 jobs and go to school full time. I catch my shows on Hulu and DVR on the weekends, NEVER during their intended time.

I’ll stick with Sci-Fi, BBC, Showtime and HBO… at least they have a better record of letting shows stand.

  200. forg says:

I think the network executives would love if the DVR and online viewing matters but what can they do, the advertisers still prefer numbers of live viewing of the 18-49 audience

  201. Dan says:

Well with Hank and Eastwick out of the way (as expected) the only cancellations for May that seems 100% is The Forgotten and Ugly Betty. Castle and FlashForward are hard to predict but if FF doesnt improve it may be on the chopping block after May. V is starting out great but that hiatus until March will surely kill the show. As for Lost moving to 8 on Thursdays, that aint gonna happen. I have a feeling ABC will be consistent with FF on thursdays at 8 for the time being. It seems they want the show to survive so despite the drop I dont think ABC is ready to dump the series to 10pm.

  202. Jan says:

Why did they cancel Eastwick? This is a really good show. I’m so SICK and TIRED of crime shows and doctor shows. Haven’t they made a CSI show in every freaking city by now. This was a nice break from reality. My mother watched this show and my mother in law watched this show. I think that the networks just don’t care what women like to watch.

  203. kar says:

I hate that there canceling Eastwick and Dollhouse. Everytime I fall for a show they cancel it. The networks don’t even give the shows a chance anymore. It’s ridiculous.

  204. kar says:

I feel like the networks are just screwing us over.

  205. sami says:

dang, i kind of enjoyed eastwick.
it was the kind of fiction i like.

  206. Rebecca says:

I personally watched one episode of forgotten and fell asleep watching it. Now I love Eastwick. I would pick Eastwick over the forgotten no matter who makes it. It is more interesting and has better casting. ABC is better off keeping Eastwick because I don’t like many shows on ABC and Eastwick is one of them. So they would lose me watching ABC if they take it off.

  207. Rebecca says:

I also don’t understand why these companies waste all the money to get a show going and not give it a full shot at showing potential. Why only give us 13 episodes and cut it. Listen to the viewers and you will learn. Look at all the people who would choose Eastwick over The Forgotten and maybe ABC will do right for once. Idiots!

  208. Julia says:

Rebecca, if this post said that The Forgotten was canceled and Eastwick had more episodes ordered, the “viewers” would be saying how horrible Eastwick is and how great The Forgotten is. Fans come out when their show is canceled.

And the real way to see what the fans want to watch is to look at the ratings. Eastwick premiered to bigger numbers than The Forgotten, but by week three, Eastwick has been lower (and often significantly lower) every showing. So ABC is listening to the viewers. And the viewers would rather watch The Forgotten.

  209. Aspen says:

I’m very upset about ABC wanting to cancel Eastwick, sure some of the acting is spoofy, the redhead especially, but I still love it!! I was really looking forward to watching it every week. I’ve also gotten all of my friends and my mom into watching it! They left way to many cliff hangers to just leave all the fans on edge! Please don’t cancel my show!!! haha
