ESPN’s Monday Night Football Wins the Night in Key Male and Adult Demos
Second-Largest Cable Audience of 2009
Last night, ESPN’s Monday Night Football game – the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 28-10 road victory over the Denver Broncos – earned an 11.5 rating, representing an average of 11,358,000 households (16,002,000 viewers – P2+).  As it has each week this season, MNF led all the night’s programs (broadcast or cable) in all key male demos and people 18-34, and it is the second most-viewed program on cable television in 2009, surpassed only by the MNF telecast of October 5 (Green Bay at Minnesota).  In cable history, it is the fifth most-viewed telecast of all time, based on the average of 11,358,000 homes (excludes breaking news).
For 2009, the 10 MNF telecasts represent cable’s 10 biggest audiences in terms of both household impressions and total viewers.  Through nine weeks (10 games) of the NFL season, ESPN’sMNF is averaging a 10.6 rating and 10,474,000 households (14,573,000 P2+), up 16 percent, 17 percent and 18 percent, respectively, from last season.

ESPN.com had 78.6 million page views to NFL content accessed via computers and mobile devices for Monday thru Tuesday at noon — up 17 percent from the comparable time period last year.  Specifically, page views for the NFL section on computers and mobile were up 18 percent from last year.  Additionally, ESPN.com streamed 2.6 million NFL related videos — up 39 percent from last year.
NEXT WEEK ON MNF
Next week’s MNF matchup on ESPN Nov. 16 will be a matchup of AFC North teams when Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens travel to Cleveland to face the Browns at 8:30 p.m. ET. ESPN’s game around the game coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. with NFL Live and continues throughout the afternoon.

    That is a surprising rating b/c half the game was one-sided. Imagine had it been a closer affair. Probably closer to 19 million viewers.
