Final World Series Games Give Fox One More Big Week

The 2009 World Series finished with the best ratings since 2004, and the final games boosted Fox to another weekly ratings win in all the main the adult demo groups for the seventh week of the primetime season ending November 8, 2009. They had particularly large margins of victory in adults 18-34 and 18-49, but just got by CBS in adults 25-54.

With a big Cowboys/Eagles Sunday Night Football game, NBC’s ratings were elevated from last week’s embarrassment and they edged ABC for third place in the important adults 18-49 demo. Even with the World Series, CBS was able to sneak past Fox for top average viewership.

Note that the chart includes RATINGS not VIEWERSHIP as was typical in our weekly network ratings posts prior to July, 2009.

You can see past week’s broadcast network primetime weekly TV ratings results here.

Each rating point is a percentage of the US TV population in that demographic group and equals: 2.90 million viewers, 1.32 million adults 18-49, 0.68 million adults 18-34 and 1.24 million adults 25-54.

Sadly, we will no longer be having a Tiny Network Showdown! since MyNetworkTV ratings averages are not being reported by Nielsen, since they are no longer classed as a network but are now a “programming service”.

What would NBC do without Sunday Night Football?

Remember the days when FOX ratings were like the CW…Married With Children and The Simpsons barely showed up in the top 40 shows…how times have changed!
