Glad to see consistent figures for Castle!

  2. MC says:

Considering the MNF game, DWTS overrun AND the CSI crossover event I think Castle held up really well (and viewers may have even been up from last week?).

Heroes is just….yikes. Unless they can slash the budget I can’t imagine NBC bringing it back unless it decides to can 3 or 4 other shows instead.

  3. the128boy says:

Heroes scored essentially the same as Community/Parks in the 8pm Thursday hour. That is baaaaad.

At these levels I don’t think Heroes returns.

And is the the bottom? I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes lower.

  4. forg says:

Nice to see The Big Bang Theory go up again at 4.7, if it did not go up from 4.5, it would have been its season low. HIMYM is really steady with 3.5 :)

Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill with 1.3 is good for them, I hope Life UneXpected could pull similar numbers too by January

    House at 5.3, just wow!

  5. Chris says:

go House still a stong show

  6. Lee says:

I’d have to check but I think Castle’s total viewers is up almost 400,000 from last week.

While it’s technically down a tick in the key demo it hasn’t dropped below a 2.4 for a few weeks now. While it’s probably not where ABC would like it it’s gained within the season and been stable since.

Not bad since DWTS and MNF had to be taken out. Plus it went up against the first part of the CSI crossover.

  7. Lee says:

Just checked the numbers posted here last week and Castle gained 391,000 last night. Just wanted to post to make sure I wasn’t off my guess in previous post.

  8. bob says:

i think we have established that Castle will be a big time bubble show come May. It seems to be consistant with 9-10 million viewers with a 2.4-2.5 in the demo.

It is going to be extremeley close! It will probably come down to how the new abc shows perform in the spring. I think a 2.4 is cutting it too close, i think if the show started to consistantly hit 2.5 or even 2.6, ABC would give it one more go for a season 3. But a 2.4 is tough, not horrible, but tough. We will have to wait and see.

  9. longtimegone says:

I am keeping the faith for Castle. It’s a good, fun show, and I like that about it.

  10. aaronhotchner says:

Castle is holding up really well. I’m shocked. Just goes to show, ABC gets a hit with Modern Family and suddenly more people are tuning in to other ABC shows. This is why CBS should not so easily cancel shows like WAT and The Unit. It gives other networks the chance to jump in and be seen when disgusted viewers turn on CBS

  11. aaronhotchner says:

    i meant turn OFFFFFF CBS

  12. Ryan47 says:

+400k for Castle is nothing to sneeze at. More slow and steady growth, which is such a refreshing change from shows that surge and falter over and over, isn’t it? Even if it merely holds serve from here on out (thought I think that continued modest growth is more likely), how could ABC dump it when so many of their other new shows have flamed out after less than one season?

It really is going to come down to how their spring shows do, but I can’t imagine that when the dust settles, there will be enough new hits to muscle Castle out. They haven’t had the greatest record of “new hits” recently. :P

  13. MouseHouse says:

Happy to see Trauma beat out Hero! Go Trauma Go!!! maybe NBC will start to git the hint the fans want to keep the show around.

  14. Diane says:

Castle rocks. I hope ABC lets it build into a major hit.

  15. Dan says:

Nahh Trauma is dead, despite beating Heroes overall, Trauma lost to Heroes in 18-49. Despite 1 series losing to the other, overall both series are performing like crap but hopefully after Trauma ends, Chuck can be paired with Heroes and hopefully the duo will do better.

  16. Serena says:

With OTH getting more viewers than GG, yet having the same 18-49 share is odd. Does it mean OTH gets more older viewers or younger ones? A combination of both maybe?

  17. Dan says:

Im actually surprised One Tree Hill is still around. 3 years ago it was considered buble to return to CW, now its holding up well. Then again CW needs its WB import dramas to balance out their current original dramas along with UPN reality staple ANTM.

    > Heroes scored essentially the same as Community/Parks in the 8pm Thursday hour. That is baaaaad. At these levels I don’t think Heroes returns.

You ignore a lot of things –
    1) Thursday night is considered a “battle night”, much more so than Monday. NBC is used to getting great ratings that night, and is ticked that they’ve lost it all to CBS.

    2) CBS owns Thursday nights, but Heroes is not just up against that but also Fox has House, the #1 scripted show on Mondays, and one of the top rated scripted shows overall.

    3) It’s also got to do with how many other shows NBC has to replace next season, and a bigger question of whether or not NBC decides to contract, take the tax advantages, etc., that Fox and CW have of not being “full time” networks, and reduce their broadcast slots completely (i.e., “Sayonara, Jay!”). That doesn’t directly affect Heroes, but indirectly it effects long-term planning at NBC. I don’t think Heroes is an expensive show.

    The TVxTN Cancel index agrees:
    Law & Order (F), (P) 0.53
    Trauma (P) 0.70
    Mercy (P) 0.72
    Parks & Recreation (P) 0.75
    Community 0.84
    Heroes (P) 0.93
Heroes is in the “green” category, of “likely to be renewed”. Obviously that’s speculation, and could also change if the ratings plummet, but it’s recognition that it’s probably got one of the toughest spots on TV — it’s not just up against one popular show, but *three*, when you also take into account that it’s up against Big Bang Theory, House, AND Dancing with the Stars (#7 show last week) — all top 25 shows.

    =====================

Oh, and Castle cracked the top 25 for overall viewers last week:

So it’s doing even better than you guys think.

  19. O Bloody Hell says:

Nahh Trauma is dead, despite beating Heroes overall, Trauma lost to Heroes in 18-49.

Dude, Trauma is up against lighter competition — i.e., not House.

And it’s old news that it’s already been canceled — as of two weeks ago.

  20. Ryan47 says:

V’s HUGE drop in the second week (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/11/11/tv-ratings-tuesday-v-drops-29-to-a-3-7-rating/33329) certainly can’t hurt Castle’s chances. Once again, another huge, bloated series that can’t maintain the remarkable consistency of the little Castle engine that could.
