A nifty little detail via Mo Ryan if the current schedule plans for Dollhouse calling for a finale on January 22nd hold up:
If Jan. 22 is indeed the date of the “Dollhouse” series finale, prepare yourself for a Whedonverse smackdown. “Dollhouse’s” final episode will air the same night as new programs from two alums of Joss Whedon’s various writing staffs. Steven S. DeKnight, who wrote for “Dollhouse,” “Buffy” and “Angel,” is an executive producer of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” which premieres Jan. 22 on Starz. Also debuting that night is “Caprica,” a “Battlestar Galactica” prequel that counts Jane Espenson among its executive producers. Espenson is a veteran of many Whedon projects, including “Dollhouse.”

I imagine a lot of the hardcores will just watch the Dollhouse finale, seeing as Caprica has been on DVD for forever (which is why it’d be interesting to see if the ratings jump up the following week) and is anyone even remotely interested in Spartacus. The trailer turned me off immensely.
Hard to believe this was posted by someone with *any* familiarity with how these networks operate. “Caprica” will have an encore showing later that same evening, as Syfy original series always do. “Spartacus” is on Starz, which means it will also be repeated that night as well as ad nauseum the whole week following. No right-minded person could see a real scheduling conflict here.
MockingbirdGirl, though I understand where you’re coming from and that you’re reacting to the word “Smackdown” (which is a natural word choice for a Friday Night!)I think her point was more “Dollhouse is exiting at the exact same time some Whedon-alum are launching new shows”
Caprica is just Stargate Universe in a different bottle, angst for the younger set.
I wonder what FOX will slot at 8pm. Maybe House/Bones repeats, Kitchen Nightmares. Id like to see a “FOX announces midseason plans” news article soon.
Robert, I understand Ryan’s point… what I take issue with is your hysterical headline.
As someone who has seen every episode of Buffy, Angel, and Dollhouse… I have no interest in watching either of those shows. Starz?? If it isn’t good enough to at least get a cable network, it’s probably not that great of a show. And all of those space shows are the same to me.
Mockingbird Girl: Issue duly noted: not changing it and it was a direct quote from Mo.
You also make the assumption that everyone watches TV the same way you do.
I’m sure you’ll have something nice to say when we post a “TNT orders more Southland episodes”. If that ever happens, at least.
I dont think FOX will pull Dollhouse or change the finale. It is fridays so after doubling up for 3 weeks in December, FOX has it set that 3 Dollhouse will air Jan 8, 15 and 22 and then some other poor show can take the slot.
I totally call this as the reason for any sort of ratings disappointment on January 22! I mean, sure, Caprica’s been out on DVD for a long while now! And sure, Starz shows generally get viewer totals in the low six figures! But, damnit, I’m still calling it now!
Plus, Harrison Ford and Dwayne Johnson have movies coming out that day!
Also, January 22 is the day after National Hugging Day, and I know many, many people who will be tired out after all the hugging the day before! And January 22 is the day before Measure Your Feet Day, and it seems abundantly clear to me that many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many people will still be out buying stuff with which they can measure their feet the next day!
Don’t let these horrible things happen to you, people! The finale of Dollhouse (if it is really dead, which I’m not totally sure about!) will be one of those events you don’t want to miss! Where were you when man first walked on the moon?! Where were you on 9/11?! Where were you when Joss Whedon was born?! Those are the same kinds of questions that people will one day ask of you: Where were you when Dollhouse breathed its last breath (til the inevitable feature film resurrection, natch)!
Dollhouse forever and ever!
Dollhouse! Please stay dead forerver and ever!
I do not get everyone critizes this show without even watching it. I do not watch it but I do not say bad things about it
Joe,
My sentiments exactly. I occasionally watch Dollhouse and I do agree that it lacks consistency at times but when it’s doing something right, it’s a bright spot on television. Regarding people rejoicing about canceled programs, it just shows they’re jealous about other people’s success. I mean if Dollhouse lived, would it kill you? Of course not. But for some, gloating over the misfortune of others is a joy.
I think JBF posts remain the best post ever seen on this web site
Stopped caring for Dollhouse a long time ago. Already seen the Caprica pilot (very promising). So I’m most excited for Rome meets 300 aka Spartacus. Even if it sucks I hope it will be a big success for Starz. More ambitous/risky original series from Pay TV/Cable channels is always a good thing. One day Starz will have it’s own Sopranos, The Shield, Mad Men or Dexter
Exactly Mackey. Allen you shouldn’t be so harsh on Sparticus. Have you seen any of this? It looks really ambitous and interesting which is more than just about everything on network TV today. Starz is not that far off. I’m not a big fan of Crash but Party Down is a great comedy and Sparticus could put them on the map with HBO and Showtime.
I’m really starting to thing JBF is really Joss.
SleeperActiveCompass….same suspect …. the Hugging Day ….ahahahaha
I’d love to see Bill or Robert do a post on whether or not JBF is really Joss Whedon. The evidence is compelling. We all know Joss is web savvy so the idea of him posting comments on a TV internet blog under a pseudonym is likely. We’ve seen Whedon use self deprecating humor in public statements/interviews on a regular basis especially when it comes to ratings. The posts have all the tendencies of a professional writer. Ever notice how they seem to be devoid of your usual internet typos or abbreviations. Ever notice their unusually long length and how they’re neatly broken up by line breaks and JBF never forgets an exclamation point or comma. And really how many casual internet lurkers would look up the things like obscure holidays and movie premieres months in advance just to make fun of whedon fans. How bout the time JBF referenced the critical review of an obscure unfilmed Whedon script. That doesn’t seem like a link even a hardcore Whedon fan would have lying around, but very much a link the actual Joss Whedon would have.
Now just imagine what a defensive Xander(from Buffy) might sound like if he was defending the ratings of his favorite show. Sounds a little bit like JBF doesn’t he. That’s just my 2 cents though, but I definitely think it warrants further investigation.
I just hope that Whedon comes up with some new TV show QUICK – I only read the Dollhouse posts for JBF’s comments. What will JBF do without Dollhouse? Could you guys do what you did for Chuck fans and still have weekly Dollhouse posts (with the croquet mallet picture of course) just for JBF and JBFs fans?
It also seems that there could be a JBF special edition version of the Ratings Excuse Bingo – National Hugging Day raises the excuse bar for all the other fanboys.
Robert , Bill ….please: ” Who are you …who who …who whooo JBF? ” post !
Dan, they’ve already stated it would be “House” reruns, pretty much.
I agreed, the lack of AOL and text-bonics makes me believe it is Joss.
I also agree that every article about Dollhouse from now on should have the mallet picture from “Belle Chose”.
I have the DVD for Caprica so will be watching DH, but am really looking forward to the Caprica eps that have James Marsters in them. I think he will be in 5 of them so far. Here’s hoping his character turns out like Spike and he gets to stick around. An evil James is great stuff.
Did everybody see the funny letter Joss posted where he offered to buy the Terminator franchise from Halycon for ten grand of his own money (since apparently Sony and others are bidding for it)?
Funny stuff. Joss should stop doing serious dramas and just do comedy. I mean, one of the big points of Firefly was that it was half comedy, not to mention the nut cases on Buffy and Angel. He can do serious but only when the other half of the show is a ridiculous premise like a high school cheerleader killing vampires.
But if he still wants to do misanthropic drama, hey, Joss, call me! I got a fantastic premise we can develop. And you can even cast Summer and Eliza in it! I got roles all lined up for them!
I hate dollhouse
